I wish I could like this a zillion times! I have watched this so many times. I don’t quilt that many quilts, and so every time I load my long arm I look at this video! Thank you so much!🎉
"This is the beans and this is the cheese" LOL Thank goodness I didn't have a mouth full of coffee or it would have been a mess! Great technique. I'll have to figure it out for my Studio 2 frame. Love it.
Where have you been all my 12 years of longarm life??? I am super short and this solved issues and the back and forth after loading was never crossed my path and it was magic!!!
To keep your leader on the top bar, or any bar, manageable, try using children's "slap bracelets". Just slap them around the bar and they'll keep your leader wrapped up tight. Easy on and easy off.
I’ve never seen such a complicated way to load a quilt. I’ve longarmed for 5 years. I’m glad I got a few new ideas. I’m so glad this works for you and you are a great instructor.

@@adamsewfun. I was wondering that! I use them too and was curious if you only use them on smaller quilts. Pinning is my least favorite part of quilting. Don't tell! Haha.
@@heatherh4455 I use them all the time unless I need something to be really straight or my backing isn't going to be big enough. I can be more precise with pins than I can with snappers.
Adam, I just want to say THANK YOU. Your videos help me so much that you have no idea. Well... you probably do. I bought my machine in November/22, had one class... well... just a whatever class I must say. Everything I know I am learning with you, and I can't thank you enough. I loveeeee the Burrito Method and the cheese, beans, tortilla, omg... that's definitely a good way to make me remember it. LOL. Thank you, thank you and thank you!
I am SO grateful to you, Adam, for your Burrito Method to load quilts!! I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I have watched this!! Thanks so very much! It’s the method that makes the most sense to me!❤😊
Great video! I thought it was great that you didn't rush through the process. You did a great job of explaining. Definitely going to try your way :) Thank you!!!
I just got a HQAmara24 with the new gallery frame and drawer and hammock. I absolutely enjoy learning with you Adam, your adorable and less rigid way of doing things makes it work for my mind. I plan to go right along with your videos as I grow my skill. Thanks a bunch !

Thank you so much! I got more out of this (and your companion Red Snapper) burrito loading video than I got out of 7 hours of searching for "Loading Your Long-arm". I'm new to long-arming, and I just set up my new Moxie (and the Red Snappers). Until your videos, I was ready to return both (yeah...I'm easily frustrated). Thanks for all your instructions. Today is a new day, and armed with your videos, I'm ready to get back into the ring!!
I saw the "other" comment (wink) and was going to send you to this video, since I figured you didn't have the red snappers. It will be different if you decided to set your frame up in the low position, just keep that in mind. Glad you found the channel and thanks for watching!!
This video was a total game changer for me! I just pulled my latest queen quilt off my frame and I am so happy as to how it came out! Best ever! I started and stopped this video as I was loading the quilt top, batting, and backing to make sure I got it just right. Not only was the burrito technique helpful, everything was so detailed you almost can't get it wrong. In the past I have had bunching of the backing, wonky overlapping of my binding due to stretching, and all kinds of issues. This quilt top had lots of angled piecing (Scott Flanagan's "Warmth of our Stars" in flannel) and I didn't want it to to suffer the same fate as my other quilts have. This time.....flawless! Yeah! I'm going to watch all your other videos now as time permits. Thanks Adam!

I have not even used all of the poles and wondered WHAT the 4th pole was even used for??? This is really going to help me to do everything properly! I also have the snappers. Mine are blue. I like your idea of the plumb line. Your batting is so unwrinkled, and you fold it so evenly! I will look at the red snapper video that you made. Going to check out my leaders now to see if they are on straight. Thank you again. I don't know how you knew the subject of: LOADING, was such a stickler for so many... It seems like I avoid my machine use because of this usual mess(with me) of my questionable loading technique. It starts with the leaders! They have to be on straight.

I hope it works out for you. I don't feel like I can get success from floating my tops, so I never do it. That doesn't mean it's the wrong way, it's just the wrong way for me.
Thanks. So far I'm not loving my new Infinity. STEEP learning curve since it's my first long arm. This method looks like it will be so much easier on my back. And popping the bar up out of the way makes so much sense!
You are going to love the Infinity. Play and have fun, get used to the new machine and how it feels and you will be back up to what you were doing in no time. Also, so much easier on the back. I did just purchase zipper leaders and have used them once and I am really loving them so far. I went to a shop where I probably had 50 people through the week I was there and everyone loved them, so I had to try them out. You know us quilters, we love a gadget.
Judi, I'm glad you tried my method. I also use red snappers and when it doesn't have to be perfect, they are such a time saver. You can still do everything almost the same way. I guess I need to make a video on how I do that too.
Wow! I just got the new Moxie and I was a bit intimidated to load my first quilt! You have done such an amazing job explaining the steps, that I have now loaded mine and I'm ready to rock and "roll"!! Thank you so much!
Your video is so awesome! Several years ago, my wonderful husband bought me a Grace quilt frame. It is basic. The salesman talked him into an embroidery machine, as a quilting machine. No. We sent that back and got a Juki home machine. Not a long arm. The frame has only 2 bars and has been a trial loading . Your video is going to make loading my quilts so much easier, even though i only have the 2 bars. My next watch will be the one using the red snappers. I do use all that i have, because, well, it does make quilting faster and easier. Thank you for this video. Question: HOW do you get your batting so flat?
@@adamsewfun. I have loaded 3 quilts this way and I love it! I will never load a quilt any other way, you are correct, it saves your back! Thank you again, hope you have a great day!
Wow thank you. I just got my first frame and I am feeling overwhelmed it is nice to see different methods and you are a delight to listen to. Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
Awesome video, and what a back-saver! I need the long back leader cloth to make the burrito but just loading from the belly bar is life changing to this longarm newb. Thank you!
Very very informative I like the way you did it how you loaded your machine almost like I do except for I have the red snappers I did learn about the Exter Bar when you could move the bar up that you could put the batting on thanks so much for Sharing❣️✂️🧵🥰
i use washi tape and wrap it around the tension bar - it use it as a measurement when i am quilting and rolling up the quilt. you may need to change it on each quilt depending on how your quilting .but it helps keep the leader from rolling all over the place.
Loved your video. I load the front bars just as you do. I was always taught to pin so the pins are on the leader side which will prevent fraying of the fabric. With your method, the pins on the back of the backing are on the fabric side. No problem if you’re using the self-identify, but I’d be concerned of fraying using your method.
I have never heard not to pin into the fabric and it's actually the preferred way we recommend to pin the back leader on. The way I do it, it keeps the "seam" of the leader and fabric pointed up, so I can see everything. I will keep an eye out in my classes and see if anyone has ever had that issue.
Enjoyed your vid o! I’m getting ready to set up my HQ Forte, and your video was easy to follow and understand! I watched one from longarm university, and not much was shown besides the quilt top. No loading, rolling, or placing batting. I didn’t learn anything from that video, but you made it very clear on yours! Thank you for taking time to make a great video, much appreciated. 😊
Thanks Darlene and congratulations on your new addition. You are going to love it. Remember to let yourself have fun and get used to everything. It takes some time but as long as you are not too hard on yourself, you will fall in love very fast.
Wow! You make it look so much easier. I am definitely going to try you way. I was using the big green wonder clips to hold the leader to the fabric, until I got it pinned. Love the idea of the tables. May have to ask Santa for a Super Leader too. I’m really enjoying your videos. I have a used Advante’ with the ProStitcher, so watching many videos to find which way works best for me. Thanks Again, and please make more videos.
OMG the Super Leader on the Studio Frame is AMAZING! It brings the leader almost all the way to your front bars. Santa would be a great person if he brought you one.
What is the hammock you put your batting in? I just bought a long arm quilter from a girl whose mother had passed and was an avid quilter. It came with a nice metal Grace frame so I was watching you tube to try and learn how to load a quilt. Thank you for the instructions….im sure I’ll need to watch it at least a half dozen more times to actually GET IT!😢But my leader clothes are not as big as yours and the hammock thing is something I may need as well.
Adam, I just found your RUclips video on loading a quilt. I have Red Sappers I used them instead of pinning but this time I'm going to pin the quilt top I like your method. I do set my bar on the top of the frame to lay down the batting. The net that's holding the batting, may, I ask where did you purchase the net in do you mind sharing.
Thanks for watching. I also use red snappers a lot of the time and I just uploaded a video on how to load the burrito method when using them. Be sure to check that video out. The net is the Handi Hammock, any Handi quilter Retailer should be able to order one for you.
Thanks for a great video. Question. How do you get your batting so smooth before putting it on there? It looked like it was pressed as it looked so good. Thank you
Carrie, I know where you can trade it in...HAHAHA JK JK. When I purchased my machine, the pole cradles had just been released. You better believe I would have bought them if I didn't get them with my machine.
Hi, Adam! Do you have a easy way for loading when the frame is setup in clear view mode? I have an Amara and feel like clear view gives me a little more throat space. Second, my PSA for the day - I bought magnetic badge holders on the “Big A” shopping sight and use the magnetic portion to hold the edge of my leaders to keep them from flapping around and getting in my way. They’re not pretty like the ones sold as sewing notions, but are inexpensive enough that I got enough to give a few to my friends with longarms.
The light bar is call the HQ HighLight system. They come in 5, 8/10, and 12 feet. They are stand alone, so you don't even have to have a long arm to use them. I'm thinking about getting the 5 foot to go over my domestic machine. The hammock is called the Handi Hammock, it just attaches to some knobs on the sides of the machine and I LOVE IT. I bought it day one it was out and haven't looked back. It's strong enough to hold the weight of two layers of batting cut for a king size quilt.
I don’t match my centers anymore. I toss my backing on and load where it lands. I tell newer long arm quilters to match the centers but once you are comfortable with the loading process and understand how everything works, you really can load anywhere you want.
Thank you for sharing. I recently got a King Quilter 2 Elite. The lady I started following floats the top & doesn’t load the quilt top. I love how she does it but I also need to know how to do this as well. Not many videos out that I have found with the quilting frame like what I have. This is great!! Now to go search & see if you have any quilting videos that will help me. 😊 I made myself a plexi board so I can sketch on. Any pointers for any of this? Thanks in advance.
Adam's currently teaching at our shop, Stitchhouse and we have Handi hammocks in stock. So if you're interested contact us at support@shopstitchhouse.com or give us a call at 972.596.5628.
Hey, I know this video is 4 years old, but I wanted to ask you a question. I have a Grace Majestic frame. It’s about 9 years old. It doesn’t have an Idler bar. I noticed your frame has a nice one, like most of the newer frames. My husband is going to try to modify mine. My question finally. How far off your machine bed does that Idler bar sit? I know with my frame, every time I roll up the quilt, after quilting, I have to raise my take up bar. Supposed to be able to put your fingers under the quilt roll. I sometimes forget and that gets pretty heavy. I have RA, so I don’t have a lot of strength. That’s where I usually mess up and end up picking the out the mess. So the Idler bar will really help, because I don’t think you have to adjust it at all. If you could let me know, I would sure appreciate it. I probably could find out if you don’t get this, so thanks anyway. Great video
I'm a longarm newbie and loaded my quilt using your burrito method. Had to reattach my backwards leaders and need to get a super leader for top bar. Does it matter if you pin all pins in one direction? Have neuropathy and that's easier on my fingers
I have a Babylock Jewel and I have the two bars in the front, one bar down in the middle on the bottom and one bar in the back. The markings on the table have the backing on the top bar, the top on the bottom bar with the batting going onto the bottom lower bar. Watching the video, when I loaded the backing on the top bar, the top on the bottom bar, there was no way for me to get the batting in onto the bottom bar because the quilt backing blocks the batting from going down. Nor am I able to stuff it between the two rails like you did so it can just sit between the two rails. Should I reverse how I've put the backing and top and see if I can tuck the batting in-between the two rails leaving the lower middle bar empty? Also my panels aren't level. They're tilting down 45 degrees. Are the ratchet poles able to be leveled? If so, how? The instructions that came with the machine aren't clear and I don't have the cd that came with the machine when I bought it.
You have a different frame than I have, so you would have to load according to what your manufacturer recommends. I believe your frame would be more like the Handi Quilter Clear View style, where the top of loaded onto the correct bar, cascades over the front. I have a video loading the burrito method in clear view, that one might work for you. The other questions about your frame I cannot answer because I’m just not familiar enough with the other frames out there.
@@adamsewfun. I basically followed your burrito method ignoring the batting rail underneath and managed to get the quilt loaded. Then, of course, my needle broke! Now on wait for needles being shipped.
@@PrescottAZ4U How do you switch the two bars around once they're loaded? I mean that would be unwieldy and awkward, right? I may be misunderstanding you.
Just a matter of choice. I don’t use zippers because I like pins and snappers. I know people who LOVE zippers but everyone has their way that they feel works best for them. I won’t make a video with zippers because I don’t have them to load with.

Wow thank you. I just got my first frame and I am feeling overwhelmed it is nice to see different methods and you are a delight to listen to. Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
I will definitely try this, sweet
Awesome video, and what a back-saver! I need the long back leader cloth to make the burrito but just loading from the belly bar is life changing to this longarm newb. Thank you!
I just bought my Moxie and I’ve been afraid to ‘jump in the water’. You make it look fun and easy. Thank you.
You just have to jump in and play. You will get better when you let yourself have fun. It really does make a difference.
Very very informative I like the way you did it how you loaded your machine almost like I do except for I have the red snappers I did learn about the Exter Bar when you could move the bar up that you could put the batting on thanks so much for Sharing❣️✂️🧵🥰
I also use red snapper most of the time. I love them but still pin on occasion.
I only have an 18” Avante but my back is screaming by the time I pin my backing ! I’m going to start using this method. Thanks Adam!
Wonders for the back, that's why I switched.
Great video! I am very new to longarm quilting on a frame.
You are going to love it, reach out with any questions.
i use washi tape and wrap it around the tension bar - it use it as a measurement when i am quilting and rolling up the quilt. you may need to change it on each quilt depending on how your quilting .but it helps keep the leader from rolling all over the place.
I love your method...I have been struggling with the bars
Thanks Adam, you made it look easy. I’m new at this and just found your videos & FB page.
No thank you Cathy for watching and supporting the channel. I love sharing my passion.
Thank you I'm going to try it tomorrow. I have a Avante I like the second crank.
The second hand wheel really makes thing easier, especially when working with a larger quilt.
This is going to make my life easier!!!
It was a game changer for myself.
Fun method! I just got the super leader for the back bar.
Great video! Thank you.
Thanks for sharing
Learn alot by watching the video
It’s a Handi Quilter Handi Hammock. 🌷
@@adamsewfun.
Thanks for the info. Need to place an order with Handi quilters, I have 18 x18 Avant’e.
I just learned why I “need” pole cradles! I hate stuffing the batting through the bars.
They are awesome!
Love this!
Awesome!
Thanks for a great video. Question. How do you get your batting so smooth before putting it on there? It looked like it was pressed as it looked so good. Thank you
Love your method. Sadly, with my APQS, I cannot take my bar up like that to add the batting.
Carrie, I know where you can trade it in...HAHAHA JK JK. When I purchased my machine, the pole cradles had just been released. You better believe I would have bought them if I didn't get them with my machine.
@@adamsewfun. love your sense of humor!!! Thanks for sharing. :-)
Joanne, another video on the list of ones to make. I don’t use Clear View that much, so have to think of an easy way to do it.
What a great video. Thanks.. what kind of lights? And that batting hammock looks awesome.
Very cool technique, thanks! Adam when you pin the backing to the superleader burrito-style, do you match the centers of the backing and leader?
I use Quilters Preview Paper to sketch designs on. Your board should work fine. I don't float my tops, it's just a personal preference.
@@adamsewfun. Thank you for replying. 😊
Where do you get to Handi hammock? I like that idea
Great video
Grenades indeed!
I hate when I drop it but laugh every time!
👏🏻👏🏻Thank you👏🏻👏🏻
I'm a longarm newbie and loaded my quilt using your burrito method. Had to reattach my backwards leaders and need to get a super leader for top bar. Does it matter if you pin all pins in one direction? Have neuropathy and that's easier on my fingers
I always pin in one direction, it won't hurt a thing.
Thank you
Adam, what kind of frame is that you are working on? Mine is a wood one and I hate it.
This is the Gallery2 frame made for two of the Handi Quilter machines.
Please tell me about the mesh bag under your frame that holds your batting.
It’s the Handi Hammock and any Handi Quilter retailer can order one for you.
What if i have a queen frame but a king backing? How do i put it on?
You can only load something the same width as your leaders. You might be able to do it but I don’t know how you would.
Problem solved. Once you use Adam technique to load, just switch the two bars around. Really easy
@@PrescottAZ4U How do you switch the two bars around once they're loaded? I mean that would be unwieldy and awkward, right? I may be misunderstanding you.
Can you load using the zippers? Or is it a matter of choice?
Just a matter of choice. I don’t use zippers because I like pins and snappers. I know people who LOVE zippers but everyone has their way that they feel works best for them. I won’t make a video with zippers because I don’t have them to load with.
