For some of this songs there isn't a good live performance on RUclips, so I advice to check the studio version first to not ruin the first listening experience.
Don't blame Floor for the lack of Tuomas compositions lately, out of the 3 singer Floor is by far the best one, more versatile and better register overall... now let's blame Tuomas for not using her full capabilities
There's no need to blame anyone, the band evolved their sound, the old songs are nice and some people might prefer them, but would be foolish to pretend that they keep playing the same 20 years later

There was a lacuna Coil dvd which came with one of their albums where Cristina Scabia said she views her vocals as an instrument. I'd say Nightwish treats their vocalists as several instruments. As the versatility of doing so many genres sometimes in one song is unbelievable

Yes! One of my favorite tracks off of Wishmaster if I'm in the mood for blazing Power Metal. If you want more Nightwish in the speedy vein, I HIGHLY recommend Pharaoh Sails To Orion or Nightquest.

I think maybe the keyboard tone he used kind of stood out too much. I think a more natural sound like a Hammond sound would have been perfect. I love the old power metal stuff they used to do, Tarja's operatic vocals add that extra element of epic to it, which is why I like her voice on the old stuff. "The Pharaoh Sails to Orion" is another great one if you haven't done it yet.

The first 3 or 4 albums were great then they switched singers in 2005 2006 then again 2012 2013 one thing that Nightwish has done so well is writting music for the current singer. Regardless of what you thought of that singer the best or worst the music conformed to that vocalists abilities. I can say regardless of era or style they played like the Islander and Harvest to the hard hitting stuff. Even the one with their native language which I dont understand. They have a way of inserting beauty into their songs.

@@sovex9331 Stratovarius was doing power metal with keyboards, Tuomas drew some inspiration from them in all these power metal songs. But Nighwish had Tarja as vocals which gave them that "operatic" feel, even without orchestra it already sounded more dramatic than standard power metal band.
Sometimes I wish lyrics would rain down instead of appearing, Coz its hard to follow a lyrics that u wont be prepared like u wont know what text will come next. Some times the lyrics gets unsynced with the song that its hard to follow. If the lyrics could rain down like End Credit roll it would be easier to see what word comes next.

This was during his "I want to be Stratovarius" years. Episode & Visions are two of the best Stratovarius albums from 96-97, and Toumas wanted to be in a Stratovarius like band. His choices changed when he heard Tarja first sing. So Toumas made Startovarius like songs on Wishmaster & Oceanborn, 2 of the Heaviest Nightwish albums. That's why he doesn't write songs like this anymore, is because Nightwish has become its own genre. So the Startovarius like band is gone. To me that's a good things because we got the albums Century Child, Once, Dark Passion Play & Imaginaerum. True Symphonic Heavy Metal.

You are right in one thing though, fan opinion does matter, and in this case you are greatly outnumbered. Share in their ability to constantly create ever evolving music and the passion that goes into it without going stale or don't, though it seems a waist to shun their recent work in favor of clinging to the past and refusing to accept change. Just spend more time listening to what you do like and less on whining about what you don't.
Tarja's great of course, but the song is kind of 'meh'. Wishmaster seems like Tuomas tried to redo Oceanborn but ran out of ideas. Always happy to hear Tarja

Agree regarding the first keyboard solo! I've been listening to this song for 15 years, and every time it feels off.
That's because there's 2 different solos going on at the same time, and Toumas never chose a good sample to do solos in. That's why it sounds off
Just power metal, no symphonic elements in this song. No orchestra at all. Nightwish never used orchestras until Century Child, two years later

I like all eras of Nightwish personally. I don’t think they have a bad album. Even the debut while not my favorite has a good amount to offer.
