When he said that phrase it was because the player probably kicked the ball because of the rival pressure and the team lost possession of the ball. By the way, "Lcdtm" is a bad phrase that literally means "your mother's pussy". I hope it was understood. I apologize for my English.

      Throughout Latin America it seems to be the case. I generally say that in English what they call America we consider two continents: the Americas. And American is really the only grammatically correct demonym for people from the United States. Sure there’s Yankee, but that only refers to a very small subset of the US population (specifically to be a Yankee you have to live and/or have been born in the New England region of the country and be able to trace your ancestry back to the original English settlers of the region). Referring to everyone in the entire hemisphere as American sounds as odd to us as insisting that we call all British, French, Portuguese, Italian, German, and Russian people Europeans. Sure it’s technically correct but it just sounds strange

    • @sofuoc1698
      @sofuoc1698 5 лет назад +44

      Historically, the US has been a very imperialist country, and it has taken measures to ensure that every other country in the continent stays in the "developing" stage, except for Canada. In the present this is still the case. The US government still influences politically and it affects us in very real ways. We are still very much under the US foot. For people that have been historically fucked over by the US and Europe, we feel like on top of all that shit, they call themselves Americans as if the continent was only them and we are erased.
      Those are pretty much our feelings, colonialism is still very real and present for us. You can explain a lot of Argentinian's psychology if you start looking at it as identity erasure and colonization.
      PS: we say "estadounidense", unfortunately it sounds like shit in English so it hasn't been adopted 😂

Like in my other post I just want the Argentines I've talked to to just realize that saying that does make them sound like they're from the States which would be incorrect. And then of course there's also the issue of rejecting the term 'latin'. I don't think anyone should be ashamed of it though! Qué sé yo!

      @@MrBrokehisbollo yep, I think it's a matter of linguistics. In Spanish it makes more sense. Since many of us don't fit the "stereotype" of Latino (brown/bronzed skin, you know stuff like that) we struggle to identify ourselves with the label. Personally since I came to Europe I started identifying with the term a lot more, but neither my last name nor my appearance is stereotypically "latinx". At this point it's just screw anyone that says I'm not Latina 😂

    Another aspect as well as "Americans" from the USA not always thinking of others as Americans, is how Americans sometimes have trouble wrapping their heads around Argentinians (and Uruguayans and many Brazilians) being "latino". Americans are so used to Mexicans etc that they think all latinos must look just like them and they can't cope with the European looking Argentinians where fair hair and blue eyes are not that unusual. Having sad that I don't think many latinoamericanos call themselves 'latinos' outside of the USA.
