the absolute BEST value Martin, hands down - so beautiful sounding and consistent. I love playing these models in guitar stores because of how reliable the tone is. I think the 000-15 slight takes the cake by having more brightness to offset the mellow mahogany with it's smaller body, but the Dread is amazing too. To me, the best all-solid wood guitar for the price.
My father gave me a Martin SWGDT years back and it’s a rlly worth the price as well. Has sentimental value as well so I’m looking at this bad boy to take on the road with me. Thinking about it more now I rlly should just go ahead and get the D-18 or 28 though. No point in having 2 good but mid-ranged Martins.
I recently acquired a D15M and I firmly believe that Martin is doing something different on those guitars versus what they did in the past. The one we have is so much better sounding and playing than older ones. I'm a huge fan.
I totally agree! I played a used 00015m that looked like it was from at least 7 years back and played a new one and omgoodness does the new one sound so much better! So I bought it
Keeping with the muscle car theme, there is no replacement for displacement. I have the 000-15M and love it, but now it needs a companion. Thanks guys!
I have a 00015sm and no doubt it is one of my absolute favorites. So easy, smooth and great for a finger picker. I had a 2000 D15, had it forever, and absolutely LOVED the feel and sound. Unfortunately a shoulder injury I won’t recover from forced me to sell my dreadnaughts. Sure do miss it. Two of the best guitars, especially for the money, you can buy. Thank you for this video. Cheers.
Back when I bought my first guitar I was split between getting a Martin DXM and a D15. They were nearly the same money at the time though I bought the plywood guitar because I thought a brown top looked strange and just didn't match my idea of what a guitar was supposed to look like. While that the DXM was a road warrior and will almost certainly outlast me (it has been locked up in it's case for years but even then it is very nearly indestructible) I have long thought about how great a D15 would sound with about 20 years playing time opening it up. My opinion is that Martin is in another golden era and beginners today should be so lucky as to get one of these to learn on. Cool vid, cool guitar.
You know, I came across a D-15M from 1999 last week and was thoroughly disappointed with how it sounded. Granted I didnt like the coated strings that were on it, but even then with 20 years of opening up as you say, it maybe sounded 70-80% as good as my 1 year old one. I wouldnt feel too bad about not getting one. Heck just get one now if you really want, when shopping I saw the old ones as low as $600 and the new ones $1400.
I have a Taylor 324ce mahogany guitar and I really love the sound of that wood on any brand be it Taylor or Martin. The mahogany just has that deep rich sound. Sweet!
My Dad has a ooo 15 streetmaster. It's fantastic! Really suits his fingerstyle and subtle touch. I'm a heavy handed, ham fisted halfwit... So I stick to cheap Chinese guitars.
If you have Olson, McPherson, Santa Cruz , Bourgeois , Collings and Goodall in your collection, together with custom shop Martins, Taylors and Gibson , it's an Investment against inflation . Better than money in the bank
@@646oleg There are MANY active skilled luthiers throughout the world today. You named some great North American makers. Furch is another great guitar maker but from outside NA. There are many great oriental guitar makers too. Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, even China (but beware many cheap products from China). You have fine taste and wise $ management. I 100% agree about guitars as an investment. They grow in intrinsic value. A well preserved old guitar is a BETTER guitar than a new one. Few items in life improve with age. If money collapses and new currency is brought in because of rampant inflation, a top end guitar will always bring LOTS of whatever new currency arises.
I play both acoustic guitar and bass guitar. As a bass player, I absolutely LOVE the characteristic depth and low end of the Dreadnought, but as a mid-sized guy with not-huge hands and body (and quite a melancholic musical taste) I fell in love with the 000-15M. It's for sure my dream guitar! Nice job, folks!
I always end up favoring a D-15 or a 000-18 when I go to Guitar Center, I think Martin is making better guitars nowadays. Don’t believe me? Go try a 2021-22 D-28. They’ve definitely upped their quality of late.
Not g.c. stores around my state !....most need severe setup work.. Costing more to the consumer,as you have to go to their "certified " tech. Which can be over a hour away..so I'm switching to a yammie..next time..if I find right one ? Even tho,my d15m is now back from warranty work from Nazareth..I've kept it well hum.controlled (2016) new: yet neck needed work after 1st year...heel hump issue) Now, 2022. >Neck reset, plek Mach. New saddle, etc..still needs better tuner gears..it sounds great now ! it's a production model, not all are created egual...
I play mostly drop d and the 000 15streetm, the one I purchased, had the mojo. The low end can be described as the Diezel of acoustic guitars. Has a grinding, rich, textured low end. My favorite guitar right now.
For years I avoided all mahogany guitars because my only experience with one was dreadnought. Eventually I played a smaller-bodied model and was hooked. The smaller the body, the sweeter the sound, in my opinion.
First Mahogany Guitar I bought was a Fender Sonoran mini and not only due to it being an awesome travel guitar, it's my favorite before any of my spruce tops Had to upgrade the nut and bridge pins first. But still and awesome little guitar
For me, It sounds like I can sing better with the 000. But your earlier comparison sold me on the AD22E mahogany. Short scale, easy to play neck, warmer sound than the Martin 000-15m. Really liking these comparisons BUT I like visiting MV better because I can play each guitar, feel how it plays and hear how you sounds with my voice. Paul and friends do a great job. Thanks for this comparison Quinton and Paul.
First Martin I bought was 000-15M. Perfect guitar at a great price. But I wish it had 1-3/4" nut for my larger fingers. They have a killer sound though!
You can get custom ones from some guitar stores with 1 and 3/4, like I did. Not much more money and the ‘correct’ neck spacing makes a huge difference.
I own a 000 10M (among a bunch of “high end” acoustics) and love it. Neck is 1 3/4, sapele, super confortable, amazing sound. It’s my main couch guitar.
I have an older(1999 model)000-15m. I did some work to the back. Covered it with a new mahogany one. Because the original cracked in 2 places. It looks good and sounds nice. Also just replaced the saddle with a “tusk” one. As well as the bridge pins. It’s totally relict but sounds pretty good
Nice demo. I owned a D-15M for a couple years. I realized: I Must Have a spruce top for the brightness. The mahogany top sounded too muddy to me. So now I shy away from guitars of all the same wood...Just me.
Awesome….Any new content related to the D-15M(in comparison to other guitars or the functionality/prowess of the D-15m itself) are much appreciated. The older D15M vid’s/tutorials are great but they’re typically placed in a subcategory of the 00 and 000 m’s.
I’m a Taylor guy but good God almighty these look and sound amazing I’ve played a D15m and loved the sound and feel this is definitely an incredible value
A Martin Dreadnought, Mahogany Top with an impressive bass response? I didn't think it likely. If I were choosing between these two specific guitars, it would be the D-15M without any hesitation.
Yeah, that 000 started off nicely, then the dread blew it away and made it sound like a toy. Not just volume, range, vibration- you could feel it. I too am a dread man. I picked the D17M over the D15M, though...
Both beautiful guitars and both got individual sound .say the Taylor got more of a Celtic sound and more versatile.Martin got that Martin tone so warm and rich .love the Martin with the playability of the Taylor .
Both these guitars sound INCREDIBLE. I just thought another name for mahogany tone.... "Biscuity". In this case digestive, regular and chocolate digestive biscuity. Respectively.
I have a Martin 000-16 and a HD-28. Clearly the latter has more low end and power, but the 000 still retains the Martin warmth. Another point is that the 000 is more comfortable to hold and play, so easier for an electric player; the shallower body is noticeable. Maybe that's why EC likes the 000-28. In the close out section I thought the 000 was ringing out more sweetly and distinctly.
6:35 thru the end was the best for comparisons. I've always loved the martin mahogany's and would have a tough time deciding. The 000 has a more personal sound- an indoor sound.
I have a left handed 00015 it sounds amazing . I record with it . But it hurts my fretting hand thumb muscles if I play for hours I use a little Taylor gs mini or a smaller Martin if I’m going to be strumming chords and singing for a while
What is the neck profile on your Martin? Did you know Martin has 9 or 12 neck profiles (shapes). Not sure what your hand issue is, but I have a wounded fretting hand and have gotten very particular about neck scale and profile. The folks at Music Villa have really helped with this so I get very playable great sounding guitars. And they don't all break the bank. Thanks MV
I have a Martin D-15M. Its one of the best sounding guitars Id ever heard, but if you are looking for a Bluegrass Dread for jamming, look elsewhere. Ive taken it to a few jams and it doesnt have the best cut. If you want to flatpick instrumental tunes by yourself (maybe some vocals), its the guitar id go with.
Thanks a lot for your videos guys! I like that they're educational too. Please keep them coming. 🙂 And yeah! Of course you need to own at least ten guitars at home. Otherwise you cannot grasp the meaning of life at all. lol
Hi Andrewmc - Wasn't thinking of any tune in particular, just moving through some simple chords; however, no doubt there's probably more than a few songs somewhere out there that follow this progression - thanks for watching!
IMO, 0-000 body sizes should be mated with short-scale necks. The extra PUNCH of a standard scale neck on a small body doesn't work for me - especially in an all mahogany body. Agreed, but would ad the little Guild M20 to that list. Sweet little fingerpicking mahogany box.
The 000-15m is my main guitar. I paid 1000 dollars for it used, feel really lucky to have a guitar with this tone with my limited budget.
I recently acquired a D15M and I firmly believe that Martin is doing something different on those guitars versus what they did in the past. The one we have is so much better sounding and playing than older ones. I'm a huge fan.

I can dig it, you should compare the Guild D-20 and M-20
Been playing my 000-15m for years and it does all that I ask. Great comfy size and super clean clear playing git. Love that woody sound.
I have a 00015sm and no doubt it is one of my absolute favorites. So easy, smooth and great for a finger picker. I had a 2000 D15, had it forever, and absolutely LOVED the feel and sound. I have a D15... its FANTASTIC.. paly it all the time... to the point that the matte finish is looking polished.
My Dad has a ooo 15 streetmaster. It's fantastic! Really suits his fingerstyle and subtle touch. I'm a heavy handed, ham fisted halfwit... So I stick to cheap Chinese guitars.

I have a D-35, but my go to is still probably the D15. What a great sound!
I have four Martins, and my D15M is my go-to GIG guitar. I do folk and Americana and it also has the K&K Pure Mini pickups installed as well.
Which one is your go to at home?
All of them. That way, they all get played. LOL.@@chrishyde1216

My brother won a 15M in 1962 and I learned on it. I think he told it in a yard sale years later. Wish I had it.

Man guess I got a steal on my D15m back in early 2000's I paid 699.99 for mine. Still play it today and its such rich sounding and love picking on it.
Thanks for all your support for All Mahogany guitars.
I play the J-15 and J-15-12
I play mostly drop d and the 000 15streetm, the one I purchased, had the mojo. The low end can be described as the Diezel of acoustic guitars. Has a grinding, rich, textured low end. My favorite guitar right now.
Of these 2 guitars I prefer the D 15, but my main acoustic is a Gibson Doves in Flight.
I have a 00015M Streetmaster. I absolutely love it. It just chimes!!
For years I avoided all mahogany guitars because my only experience with one was dreadnought. Eventually I played a smaller-bodied model and was hooked. The smaller the body, the sweeter the sound, in my opinion.
Agreed, my 522 Hog is the one I play the most.
First Mahogany Guitar I bought was a Fender Sonoran mini and not only due to it being an awesome travel guitar, it's my favorite before any of my spruce tops
Had to upgrade the nut and bridge pins first. But still and awesome little guitar
Love my 000-15m Strretmaster. and would love to own a D-15m someday! Great video guys that one seemed to have a good flow to it!
Thanks guys. This video was crucial in helping me decide which guitar to buy. I appreciate the great comparison.
000 for me, so much sweeter, but it's also so subjective.
For me, It sounds like I can sing better with the 000. But your earlier comparison sold me on the AD22E mahogany. Short scale, easy to play neck, warmer sound than the Martin 000-15m. Great demo gentlemen.
Simply can't beat a Martin 00015m- best sounding and value guitar on the market.
Another great video! D-15 is awesome. If you have some 12 strings laying around, I’d like to see a comparison. Thanks!

that D15 sounds heavenly

The triple ought is probably great for recording, right?
Love the seamless comparison. Exactly what I needed to aid in my struggle. Thank you.
Much prefer the 00015, the melody on top strings comes through much better. Both nice, but the dreadnaught is boomy. My opinion of course!
Scored a D-15 the other week for $200 with some side cracks. I'm a luthier , so , yeah. She's good to go now.
D15m versus Taylor AD27 please Paul. 🙏
I’m a Taylor guy but good God almighty these look and sound amazing I’ve played a D15m and loved the sound and feel this is definitely an incredible value
Thanks guys. I love my 000-15. So nice to hear the contrast.

Amazing play and review. I like 000 size but in this case of mahogany on top, D shape may be better to me. I am satisfied with my OM28.

I have both and both are so delocious!!!
I've had D 15M for just over 20 years now still play it everyday. I think it has just about forgotten that it was once a tree...
lmao
Y’all should review the 12 fret 00015SM and compare it to the 14 fret 00015M
Here's one from back in 2014..... ruclips.net/video/EwKMucL3l5M/видео.html
Love my 00015sm
Merci beaucoup pour ce comparatif.
May I have both? Great review and demo
One cannot beat the
USA Martin 15 and Guild 20 series. I have the guild M-20 and I want a D-15 as well.
Would love to hear “Alice’s Restaurant” played on these guitars.
I saw Arlo Guthrie play in New Haven a few years ago and he had the 00015!
I have an Alvarez AD66SHB Mahogany top guitar and that Mahogany top
Great video!
The RS-000 is also excellent
Dang that D15M is also good. Just picked up one second hand. I just love hog top Martins
Hey P and Q, it’s time for the “Live from the Front Porch” show
followed by
“Live from the Campfire”
The 000 sounds amazing!!
I have the 000-15M ... sweet 🎶🎶🎶
Do you guys take Trades? I have a 2012 HD-28VS in excellent condition. Willing to sell or trade.
Thank you 😊
Please compare d15m and d18
000 it's an auditorium size am I right?
Liked the OOO a little better. Notes seemed more clear and defined.
What's that beautiful black thing hanging on the wall in the background? Pickguard makes it look like it might be a Gibson.
Comparison between AD17e & Martin D-15 ...Which one is better ?
Classics 🥰
D looks like genuine mahogany and 000 is Sipo? Or just variation in their "mahogany" stock?
Great vid guys. Both awesome guitars. Also, we learned Quentin likes to torture dogs😄
Thanks a lot for your videos guys! I like that they're educational too. Please keep them coming. 🙂 And yeah! Of course you need to own at least ten guitars at home. Otherwise you cannot grasp the meaning of life at all. lol
The number of guitars you need is always one more than you currently have. Fact!
What's the tune you're playing
Hi Andrewmc - Wasn't thinking of any tune in particular, just moving through some simple chords; however, no doubt there's probably more than a few songs somewhere out there that follow this progression - thanks for watching!
D just has too much echo and low end to my liking :)
Would the gs mini be the same size as the 000-15m?
NO, the GS Mini is much smaller with a shorter scale.
IMO, 0-000 body sizes should be mated with short-scale necks. The extra PUNCH of a standard scale neck on a small body doesn't work for me - especially in an all mahogany body. My 0-15M Limited Edition is my lest-played Martin because of this. The longer scale seems to add unneeded punch to the mids that can predominate in this body size.
I recently bought a 000-15M because I'm just not comfortable with playing a dreadnought.
Having said that, I would love to see a comparison between the D-15M and a Guild D-20. I have payed a couple and they are one of the best-sounding Dreadnoughts I have ever heard!
SiqueSii🧙♂️
D-15 MORE BASS
only ten..?
A Uke
Dudes the 15m is way fuller sound compared to the 00015
Quinton could make a cardboard box sound good.
