    So much thanks for this video. I have an Audi Q3 in the workshop, from 2014. Also engine rattle and inlet cam sensor codes. Replaced the timing chain which was worn, no result. Removed the cam bridge, did the test of this video and the air came came out somewhere, instead of building up pressure in the head. So now know what to do, and that’s removing the head and check/replace the valve 👌🏻 Also go to replace the cam bridge, because the screen was popped out.

    Thanks for the explanation. Very good. I just found out yesterday that on my model of engine, sometimes the manufacturer didn't install these valves. My timing chain rattle started a few months ago. Only for a few seconds on cold start up. I now think these check valves are either worn or not there.

  • @sipthewater

    So you had to take it all apart and fix those problems after all that work to install the chain kit??

  • @deejay4837

    EVERY chain tensioner video Audi and VW I've seen ALL have the screen blown out in the cam bridge....So why not remove the screen to begin with. You said you'd replace the bridge all together, so then you're going to have a screen floating around in the head again.....Your thoughts?

    Hi there did this engine get a rattle noise from 1,500rpm to like 3,200rpm wen revving and did the noise went away by removing the magnetic solenoid wire plug and come back wen plugged back in??

    Can this valve be replaced without replacing the chain? Also, is this common on the later 1.8 tsi engines?

  • @V10PDTDI

    hi thanks for the video and when you are saying that it will cause misfires and timing codes is it because the oil goes back to the oil pan or the oil pressure is lower than normal in general and yes i got one Tiguan with bad balancer shaft and low oil pressure when the oil was hot what i've notice is I usually go for a test drive and get the oil real hot and then I go into the instrument cluster and check for engine RPM and oil pressure switch closing and normally the switch should close at around 1000 rpm but if it's higher like 1300 rpm or more then I know that the balancer shaft might be worn out but first I put in a new oil pressure switch just to make sure that it not the switch one funny thing I got a few car that even with new oil 5W40 oil and OE filter the oil light would come on event with a new switch and it I would check the oil pressure with a gauge it would be within specs i would then get a new switch from a different model that closes easier then it would be ok I never had any issues with car that I had to do this. I think the switches are from Audi A4 with similar engines.

      You should only use the proper part number sensors, they all different pressure ratings, if you use a wrong one the light might not come on, but the pressure will be too low....
      If the check valve fails the engine will miss fire because the timing will be off, due to pressure low in the cam adjuster.... I always use a mechanical gauge to check the pressure when there is a suspicion on the pressure being low...

    Also can you do a video on replacing the Balance Shafts on these motors? Thanks

    • @EDGEMOTORS
      @EDGEMOTORS  5 лет назад +1

      You can use the video on the timing chain plus the video on the water pump, in between the two you will have all the information you need, there will be only two bolts extra, the once that hold the actual balance shafts to the block

  • @cfriday
    @cfriday 5 лет назад

    EdgeMotors, Thanks again for explaining these checks. Your videos makes me understand this engine even more. I've had 1.8t's, current B7 2.0t , B8 2.0t, 2.7t motor and this B8 2.0t is for more iffy with all these components. My current B8 2.0t A4 Avant currently runs good but no CEL or Misfires. I do however have the Low oil Pressure warning as the engine oil gets hot. I've replaced the PCV, the Oil spring tube under the Oil filter and still get the low oil pressure. Still no misfires.
    You still think its the Balance Shafts? Or can those check valves or Cam Bridge cause the low pressure. Just want to make before I tear this down.
    Thanks.

      Did you ever check the actual pressure?

    • @cfriday
      @cfriday 5 лет назад

      @@EDGEMOTORS That's actually next in the process. Check the pressure from the Oil pressure sensor location next to the Oil Filter housing. You know what the pressure range would be on idle and rpms when oil is warmed up?

    • @EDGEMOTORS
      @EDGEMOTORS  5 лет назад

      That should of been done first:)
      At idle you should see around 20psi and higher, at around 2000 should be above 35psi...

    • @cfriday
      @cfriday 5 лет назад

      @@EDGEMOTORS Finally got around to check the oil pressure and as it got warm the pressure drops below the 20psi requirement. So it looks like I'll need to do the balance shafts and or test the other check valves. BTW I did notice some oil leaking from the valve cover near the Fuel Pump. Looks like i'll need to reseal that. Could a leak from the Valve Cover cause a low oil pressure?

    • @EDGEMOTORS

    im working on a 2009 tiguan. it seems like cylinder block is not receiving any oil at all. there is no oil coming out of this hole in the cilynder with the cam bridge out and cranking the engine. i do see Oil coming out the oil filter port when oil filter is not installed. Possible balance shafts ?

      OK yes but as I mentioned the check valve purpose is to retain oil in the cylinder head after engine is shut down, not while it is running . when it is running oil pressure goes in the up direction . if it is stuck closed it will prevent oil going to the head in that case head will suffer oil pressure, but you mentioned it stay stuck open a bit
