Yes to a lighting video. I struggle at the hardware store picking out simple light bulbs. Too yellow, too white, too blue white. Ughhhh. I feel like I need a lighting consultant.
Please tell me that I’m not the only one who literally drops everything when Kiva posts a video? I think I have an addiction to interior design. Please send help lol
I've never even thought of using paper towels in my bathroom. If you wash your hands thoroughly, you don't need to worry about COVID germs getting on your hand towels. I do recommend that you have multiples of each your towel sets per person. One set hanging in the bathroom, one set in the wash, and at least one or two more sets in the linen closet/cabinet so you never run out or are caught in a bind. Learned that from my mother. Same with sheet sets. 3 sets for each person.
YES we do want a whole video on lighting ! And another one on cushions, or how to style a sofa and how to choose the cushions, matching colors (according to sofa colors) etc. Thank you so much for your videos ❤️
You are not alone with the throw dilemma! I have a fabulous fur throw on my couch and I CANNOT get it to look perfectly thrown on my sofa lol. After 10 or so tries of throwing it from different angles and rearranging it, I always end up carefully folding it and neatly laying it across the back of my sofa 😂.
Love these videos! And yes, PLEASE, give us more tips on lamps and lighting! Not only more on the types of bulbs we need to be using, but also the size and scale of the lamps themselves, how and when to incorporate a floor lamp so it adds to the room, and ESPECIALLY some tips on choosing the correct style and SIZE of lampshade to work with your base. Sometimes when we use unique or vintage lamps we need to come up with the shade separately and it's so easy to get the wrong size. Is there some rule(s) on proportion of lamp base vs shade? THANK YOU for always having the best ideas and explaining them in ways we can easily understand!
Yes please!! The quilt is foundation the bed is built on-I agree that everyone needs it. I always appreciate your suggestions. I have a toddler and I think you would allow me to be excused from the nightstand having decor. Coffee tables at my house are also bare-at least for the next few years. 😉 Please do a video on lighting. Lots of hand holding-I need lots of pictures. I know we need task and ambient lighting but can you go room by room and tell us generally where task and ambient lighting should go.
When my granddaughter was tiny barely crawling, she wanted to touch my two foot little statue of a glamorous lady. I just said to her mind or be gentle with “nana’s lady”. I’d always let her go near it (after much training) and she’d gently touch it, as she knew that was ok. It was so cute to see her be careful. I’m amazed that she’s 4 now and still calls it “Nana’s lady”.
Hi Kiva, Great video! Thanks! In my powder room, I have a brass washstand and one towel ring. I have paper napkins in a brass holder, and one hand towel in the ring for everyday use. When I have company, however, I change out the paper napkins for washcloths, folded and stacked in a small brass basket that sits on the counter. A matching fingertip towel hangs in the ring. A second, larger brass basket sits under the washstand with a washcloth hanging over its edge, suggesting its purpose. A guest can take a washcloth to dry their hands and toss it in the basket under the washstand. Those who feel more comfortable with a reusable towel can reach for the towel ring. The towels are hunter green and match my wall tiles. Visitors are impressed!
I completely agree about the cold white LED's. I never use anything over 3000k. I'd love to see a video delving into more about lighting. Also, we have a number of original art pieces from unknown artists that definitely help elevate the rest of our signed/numbered prints, photos, etc. Great tip!
I love your videos Kiva! you've really helped to inspire me to rearrange/ redecorate as I can + to enjoy my space more by making smaller, practical, affordable changes. You really take into account that not everyone can afford everything they want to do in their homes all at once, so thank you for being so incredibly inclusive + mindful in your suggestions.
“Did I care too much? Did I not care enough?” Lol. So true. Yes! ❤️ A full quilt blanket at the end of the bed is my ticket out of hell. Thank you. Lol.
The correct lightbulbs make a huge difference for me. Not too yellow or too blue. We have an open concept living/kitchen/dining area and all the bulbs have to be similar or it will drive me nuts 😆 But I’m also the person who at my previous home had to have all the outside trim the same color as the inside trim, so there’s that lol.
Can you do a video on styling throw pillows?? I have purchased and returned so many pillows because they just don’t seem to go together on my couch. Color coordinating, textures, pattern, etc. Any ideas or tips would be appreciated!!
Wait, people use paper napkins or towels in the bathrooms? I don’t really even understand that. Fortunately, since we are doing a new build, we are getting to buy all the appliances at the same time. We have gotten everything, from the large things like the fridge right down to the microwave and coffee maker in black stainless steel. I really do like the cohesiveness of it. We settled on that because my husband liked stainless steel and I preferred black appliances, so this was our compromise!
Kiva - you do know that half your subscribers over here in the other side of the Atlantic are clueless when you say you’ve paper towels in your bathroom ! I’ve never heard of such a thing 🤣🤣😂
And that’s a good thing! If the whole world did the ecological disaster thing they do in America…. Just watch any channel of someone from another country who moved to the US. Top of their list is always the waste and endless plastic cups and paper towels. Did you know that there are entire states without bottle and can deposits so no one recycles them?! How is that allowed???
@@anyat686 I use the stainless steel straws now - what a difference they make, you can actually taste what you are drinking instead of those stinking paper straws!

I have 2 hand drying options in my bathroom. 1) White Bounty napkins resting in a pretty glass vase thingy on the counter. I like Bounty napkins because the plain white appearance makes them look sleek enough and since they're Bounty, they're strong, and also not expensive. 2) Decorative hand towel hanging up that people can use. I do not believe in having pretty hand towels only for display. I change out the hand towel everyday. I keep the spares in the cabinet under the sink.

A lighting video would be great. I hate those cold white lights. When I walk at night, I can always see those bright lights through curtains and it reminds me of an office. Another great video!
I have LED lightbulbs in my chandeliers that are warm. However, I just recently had a new chandelier installed that uses the white bulbs but I'm okay with it as it will be used mostly for task lighting. Also, as we get older our eyes don't take in as much light so we need brighter spaces. Love your information and inspiration! ❤💕
Take a shot for every “right?!” 😂! On another note; in regards to the wall art, I used one of your previous videos about how to make your very own piece of art using the IKEA canvas and frame and it turned out beautiful! I absolutely love it!
Hand towels make my skin crawl. Unless everyone is using their own hand towel, they are a germy mess. I used paper long before covid. I'm ok with my powder room looking a little less expensive. I am definitely on the hunt for a more luxe bedroom look, though.
"abyss of bed" LOL, good way to put it. Or you could say they look out of scale, or you didn't care enough to get the proper size. Great tips as always. Thanks Kiva.

I don't agree with the pillows. I sewed pillowcases that are perfectly comfortable for me and stuffed it with the inside of another pillow. I don't care if they look good or bad on our bed. They have the size 45 cm x 65 cm (17,7 inch x 25,6 inch). There is only one size for bed pillows in Germany anyway, 80 cm x 80 cm (31,5 inch x 31,5 inch). In recent years they added a size 40 cm x 80 cm. But the standard size is always 80x80. I don't care if my bed looks good when the pillows are uncomfortable. Additionally, there are no throw pillows in Germany.
I NEED a lesson in lighting. The kitchen and all rooms. I have the hardest time with good lighting. I'm at least aware enough to know that what I have is too minimal.
The problem I have with cloth hand towels is that once they're used, they're wet and are rarely hung properly by the last user. Not to mention the sanitary issues with used towels.
Had to laugh about the paper towels in the bathroom! First house we bought we "inherited" about 100 monogramed paper towels from the previous owner with an additional message printed on each "Nancy prefers paper!". We thought this was soooo odd!

Hi! I am a DIYer and contractor's only child that's remodeled every home our family has lived in. This is a common problem, and you can find lots of inspiration for dealing with this on Pinterest. The easiest solution I've seen was to glue the wood frame on the edges with E6000. No matter how you attach it you're going to see the back of it from some angles.. But even afraid mirror you'd see edges if you looked at it. Don't worry. It's going to turn out great!
You could wallpaper all of the mirror, except the area you want for a mirror. They have temporary wallpaper that’s easy to remove if you don’t want to use the regular. Then you can glue your trim onto the wallpaper edge instead of the mirror. That way it won’t show. 😊
If I had a water carafe on my table I'd have five cats trying to figure out how to knock it off in order to get to the water. But it would look lovely as it was hitting the ground. Ha ha. My water drinking is when I get up at 3 AM to go to the bathroom and then I get another drink of water and go back to bed. It is not expensive. But it does keep the craziness down to a dull roar. But thank you for the tips. I had a nice smile.

I actually used to have beautiful hand towels in my powder room. But the thought of guests during an evening all using the same towels is just a bit unsanitary.
I bought daylight bulbs for my bathroom vanity thinking it would help me see better, oh wow is it harsh. I have no idea what bulbs to put in there now. I have beautiful original art in the guest bath and I want the right lighting to enjoy them. Help!
I spent at least 40 hours looking for bar stools to fit at my 45” high counter. They also had to hold a certain former athlete husband’s weight, and I wanted real wood. It was no joke!
I would love a video about the frame tv. What is it? What to look for.. what do they run and how to use them? My living room HAS to have the tv on the main focal wall. I don’t have a choice. 🙄
