Really hope companies like TCL and Hisense can catch up to giants like LG and Sony in terms of software. 5k zones may not mean as much if they go underutilized.
They have caught up to the “giants” in most cases. TCL QM8 is probably one of the best mini led on the market asides Sonys X95L… the QM8 has 2000 zones and looks superb. So I can’t even imagine more than double the zones also optimized with their chip
TCL really needs to fix its naming scheme. Different namings between US and Europe, and then it just goes in all directions with no indications of which tv is supposed to be superior to which. Not sure how a regular consumer is supposed to figure anything out.
I’m in the EU and in the market for a big TV. I was thinking about 83” OLED but if the TCL contrast is comparable and blooming not very visible I’ll go with the 98” X955.
I remember when the Hisense UX model was introduced at CES in Las Vegas earlier this year, I was blown away with 5000 local dimming zones and 2500 nits peak brightness. With the same amount of dimming zones and its 5000 nits peak brightness, the TCL X955 grabs my attention.

This is one of the advantages of close collaboration with a big display firm. GOOD JOB CSOT! They excel on both large MINI-LED screens for TVs and small OLED screens for phone, as demonstrated by this TV and Xiaomi 14.
I'd like TCL to give this panel to Sony and they can work their software / algorithm magic and make this an OLED competitor. That will happen in 2025 the earliest, not in 2024, though. Still, curious to see if this pushes Sony to up the local dimming zone count in 2024 to such a high level that they can finally eliminate blooming from their mini-led line up. X95L is close, but it needs double the zones. Knowing Sony, they'll do another +30% zones next year with X95M.

Air purifying aircon sounds really good for Australia. I hope they do offer them. The new tv looks really good too. Linus bought the 115 inch model for his home, mentioned in the latest LLT WAN show, review coming soon.
It'll be interesting to see how content providers react to 5000 nits being a consumer possibility. Like you say, most TV shows and movies mastered for the home market are constrained to 1000 nits. However, some providers like Netflix do maintain archival master formats at 10,000 nits unconstrained, so it's not out of the question to derive a 5000 nit master for TV distribution. I would think it more likely we may see a shift towards more 4000 nit material coming out if these super high-brightness TVs become more prevalent, simply because a lot of mastering platforms are already set up to deliver at that level. On a side note, I chuckled at the subtle overdub at 11:00 - 'fess up, Caleb, did you record that on your phone in the car? 😜
OOO lol, being in the UK I'll have to look out for this 1, going from Oled doesn't seem an option but if it looks as good then it's a possibility...depending on the price obvs hehe. Ty for the vid as always....and that shocking dubbing lol.
Don't want to sound like a downer, but the line about massive wild fires coupled with "Buy more product" rhetoric right after, didn't sit well with me, personally. Love the videos and hope the X955 comes to NA in some way soon. Looking for a new TV for our large living room.
I have a Hisense U8G that advertises 1500(?) I believe nits of brightness yet when I turn hdr on in any app it looks extremely dim, can someone explain to my why this is?
Would the QM8, along with an Apple TV device to hopefully with the tv processing issues, be a better option than the X90L? Considering the almost $1500 price hike to the 85" X93L.
I'm a bestbuy employee who's worked there since 2015. Home theater is my expertise. I'd take the TCL vs sony. X90L is full array backlight vs the TCL mini LED. QM8 will get brighter and the black levels will be deeper. The only thing the sony does better is the video processing. If all you watch is lower quality sources...like cable (720p) then maby it would be worth it. But if you stream or watch blu rays....that are mostly high quality sources...Def TCL.
@corytrevor7313 I usually stream apps for movies, sports, and tv shows. Most of the stuff I stream is supposed to be HD, and I have a 500 Mbps internet speed. But I had a bad experience with my QM8 when it came to picture clarity on certain streams. I definitely loved the HDR part of the QM8 that I'm not sure if i would get from the X90L since it's laking both the contrast and the brighter. I recently started to hear that maybe an Apple TV device could help with the processing clarity of the TV? Do you know if that's true? Because that would be my main issue with the QM8.
@jrerobert watching content that is only HD will limit the performance no matter what. The sony does have better processing so it might clean it up a bit...but it won't be a night and day difference. HD content is good...but it's not going to WOW you. Like I said look up a 4k hdr video on RUclips for free and see if that looks better.
I know this isnt a tv everyone and there mum will own but will be interesting to see how the backoighting effects input lag and motion repsonse times for gaming in hdr!
Will Australia Get this model ? and will it be Identical to other countries? And how long until this Micro LED is going to be released from Samsung and make OLED obsolete ?
Just curious, at approx 10:58 was that audio insert (overdub!! Knew there was a pro term for that, although I feel no compunction to avoid making up my own word if needed 😂) supposed to sound completely different than the rest of the audio? Other than that, this was actually a beautifully produced video!
I’m very interested but apprehensive that there’s no details about viewing angle. I’m sure it’s gonna be excellent viewing from the center of the couch but this kind of size is great for having friends over and might just look like bright, hot garbage from off angles where my friends sit. Would also be awesome if they had a sub and sats option without bypassing the onkyo included.
Great video! I'm dying for a 98" or maybe a 110" tv that can replace my front projection setup. $5k is about the max I would spend and the TCL's are really starting to hit the sweet spot.
@@chunleiyin485Hopefully they nailed the dimming algorithm. Still its very interesting and hopefully comes soon enough to 65" models with reasonable price.
I wait to see how much power this 98 or 110 inch tv uses. Buying such tv ain't no problem, but with the pricey electric bills in Europe, a UST laser projector more economical for the same screen size.
Do you know if the X955 has been upgraded with a Pentonic 700 chip? I see them advertising Dolby Vision Gaming this time around for the X955 so maybe it has been upgraded to a new Pentonic chip. I can only hope!. How about an ATSC 3.0 tuner upgrade for the flagship model as Hisense have done with their new TVs? Any news on that front yet? My country is in the Oceania region (New Zealand), and we normally get the European models down here (eg C845) so I am hoping that we will get this TV model too.
Gonna make a wild guess for this tv. Option 1: Almost 0 blooming, with meh to okay-ish colors and crushed blacks/shadows galore. Option 2: blooming bonanza, with much better color accuracy and shadow detail. 5000 nits would be very useful for outdoor events on a sunny day 😂

OOO lol, being in the UK I'll have to look out for this 1, going from Oled doesn't seem an option but if it looks as good then it's a possibility...depending on the price obvs hehe. Ty for the vid as always....and that shocking dubbing lol.
waiting eagerly for your review for this amazing tv!
will you be reviewing the tcl nxtwear S Ar Glasses ?
WHY is it that LCD can not do LED-level light control as OLED can? Why does a LED need to light by a "zone"?
Gonna be deciding between a 77" S90C or a 85" C955 in the coming months, to replace my 75" Sony X95J
Any idea when C755 coming to USA?>
Sounds great, but does it best the Sony X95L in overall viewing experience?
this, is the only thing that matters. i'm guessing no
Hey celeb, can I order this tv from China or Europe?
Don't want to sound like a downer, but the line about massive wild fires coupled with "Buy more product" rhetoric right after, didn't sit well with me, personally. Love the videos and hope the X955 comes to NA in some way soon. Looking for a new TV for our large living room.
I have a Hisense U8G that advertises 1500(?) I believe nits of brightness yet when I turn hdr on in any app it looks extremely dim, can someone explain to my why this is?
Much Love from Kenya 🇰🇪 but sadly the TCL sold here are not of the same quality as to USA. I ask why?
Starting from next year we'll get the same level of tv's
Do you know when this flagship model will be available in the UK. So I'm assuming this won't get screen burn like an OLED❓
The processor is the key ingredient is it or isn’t it there with the 5000🤷♂️
At a 10 minute mark there was a picture of a TV with a 115" screen size designated on it, do they make a 115" TV?
Please identify the displayed record behind you. Thanks as always for your great content!
How bout blooming? Specially dark scenes and white subtitles... 🙂
Is X955 and the other TV lineup will be available in the U.S.?
Habrá en 2024 este modelo en tamaño más pequeño? 😊
I'd like for reciewers to introduce a new metric: dimming zones per square inch/cm. Is 20,000 zones on 115inch more dense than 5000 on 85 inch?
Will Australia Get this model ? and will it be Identical to other countries?
And how long until this Micro LED is going to be released from Samsung and make OLED obsolete ?
Just curious, at approx 10:58 was that audio insert (overdub!! Knew there was a pro term for that, although I feel no compunction to avoid making up my own word if needed 😂) supposed to sound completely different than the rest of the audio? Other than that, this was actually a beautifully produced video!
Will this come to the us and will it be in the next 3-6 months. They just released qm8 and now we have this as well. Makes you wonder what’s going on.
Agreed. Im running a 100in Optoma gt1080hdr projector.. Love it...but looking for what a tv can do that a projector just cant.
TCL has just launched its monster 115 inch tv with 20k+ dimming zones and 5k nit brightness in China. Hope it'll be brought to overseas markets
@@chunleiyin485Hopefully they nailed the dimming algorithm. Still its very interesting and hopefully comes soon enough to 65" models with reasonable price.
Great job as always caleb
When a full review?
I wait to see how much power this 98 or 110 inch tv uses.
Buying such tv ain't no problem, but with the pricey electric bills in Europe, a UST laser projector more economical for the same screen size.
I really hope this model is available in the Middle East, looks like exactly what I want.
When does the Sony A95L review come out? 😢
Hope this means the smaller sized tvs will be a lot cheaper now
Do you know if the X955 has been upgraded with a Pentonic 700 chip? I see them advertising Dolby Vision Gaming this time around for the X955 so maybe it has been upgraded to a new Pentonic chip. I can only hope!. How about an ATSC 3.0 tuner upgrade for the flagship model as Hisense have done with their new TVs? Any news on that front yet? My country is in the Oceania region (New Zealand), and we normally get the European models down here (eg C845) so I am hoping that we will get this TV model too.
I knew tcl were coming ,and they’ll keep coming ,they wont stop !!!
OLED's been good enough for me and I don't even have cutting-edge OLED (LG B2). I have complete light control in my bedroom so YMMV.
It would have been perfect if it also have 5K resolution.
You should review the Hisense u7k
Gonna make a wild guess for this tv.
Option 1: Almost 0 blooming, with meh to okay-ish colors and crushed blacks/shadows galore.
Option 2: blooming bonanza, with much better color accuracy and shadow detail.
5000 nits would be very useful for outdoor events on a sunny day 😂
When is this going to be released? Is this going to be the expensive premium model while they keep having the low prices on other types?
5000€ 98 sold
