- Mee siam isn't a dish I'm too familiar with so I invited along Celestine to help me out with the flavours. One of the things I love about sharing food is finding out more about out the person you're sharing it with. Celestine told me she used to eat this dish so many times a week the uncle at her local stall recognised her and would prepare the food when he saw her coming.
This 50 year old stall, now a third generation hawker stall, offer nasi lemak, mee siam and lontong.
We tried the mee siam and the lontong - a dish new to me.
A hearty bowl of each costs $3.50, find this stall in Redhill food center.

Mee siam is my favorite food. When I see a mee siam stall, every other stalls fade away.
I would have it again for sure.
Mee Siam is a great breakfast dish… thoroughly appetizing and not too heavy 😋
Totally agree there, very full of flavour but you don't need to take a nap after!
Stayed at Redhill for 38 years and this is my mum's favourite mee siam stall.
Famous stalls that have been there for a long time are
1) Seng Heng Braised Duck Noodles (must put chili)
2) Shi Le Yuan (Kway chap that has wonderful broth, they stopped selling their mixed organ soup sadly which is very good)
3) Fu Ming Carrot Cake (They make their own radish cake and the cake is seasoned not those factory-made radish cakes that do not have taste in the middle)
4) Bak Kee Teochew Satay Bee Hoon (My mum's favourite, I, myself do not like satay bee hoon.)
5) Ali Fatimah Food Stall (Best roti prata I ever had. Crispy on the outside, doughy on the inside. The roti seasoning is also very nice. Opens very early at around 7am sold out before lunch)
6) Fresh Soya Bean - Freshly made soya bean milk and beancurd made in the stall. Not from the factory.
Love Redhill. We have a vlog on our main wonders channel about redhill, have you seen it? ooo satay beehoon sounds yum! Thanks for these, can be sure to try some out when we're in that area again.
This mng just had Mee Siam malay style with the Sambal Tumis Yummy...👍👌
Yum
The cost for the dishes must have been a lot lesser than when Celestine was at school??
I'm not sure, she said similar so...
Milly. Must try peranakan mee siam. Indonesian cuisine lon tong is tasty too
Where can I get it?
Those in the mee siam are not taukwa but taupok
Thanks for the clarification.
There are variations to mee siam. There’s the original Malay version and the Chinese one you had. My favourite is mee siam mamak, the Indian Muslim style) and you must try the one at Siraj Indian Rojak at Albert Hawker Centre. The Indian Rojak there is good too. Avoid the lunch crowd if you do go.
Another good Indian Rojak would be at Ayer Rajah Hawker Centre where you’ll find Habib’s as well as Abdhus. Those are my go-tos for the dish.
Thanks for the recommendations. I'll have to try the other types now.

What kind of food is there?
Hello friends, I hope you guys have a wonderful weekend, the food looks so flavourful. 😊 I met Celestine before on 22 December at church service. See you guys tomorrow. 💜
Such good food.
@@wonderlustfood I like the lontong at my neighbourhood at Serangoon Avenue 2. 😊
Is the lontong equally delicious? 😊
Sure was!
I would patronise this food stall next time. 😊
Let us know what you think.
@@wonderlustfoodThanks so much 😊
Try Haig Road Hawker for Singapore's best mee rebus, another popular Malay dish. The mee rebus there has shrimps in its gravy which makes all the difference. You should put the word 'Singapore' in your title. Target audience cannot be just locals (who probably knows all the good food so you are under more pressure to find unique & good foods) but also foreigners and tourists who may find these interesting and may want to find them too.
Thanks for the tip for the title! Good point.
