I’ve been on set with her a bunch of times on workin moms as an extra, and she is actually such a boss! She directs while she acts, she’s able to work with the actors and change up the script as they see fit, super hands on, calls all the shots, while taking care of her kids during her lunch break. She’s super friendly, personable, always introduces herself to everyone, and is such an inspiration. She is the literal definition of a workin mom, and that’s why her show comes off so real and genuine. I’ve been on many shows/movie sets and I’ve never seen anyone work like her. She mentioned it was hard work in her talk, but I thought I needed to tell you guys how hard she actuallyyyyy works lol. She was made for this, can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!

To be honest. Yes I like her and don't look down on hard working people. No matter what state they are in. But if you have a super rich dad.. Worrying about money, future or investing goes away. Many of us want to be where she is, but don't have the money. Money = easier life

I came across this show when I did my master degree in Theatre in Canada. Been hooked to it ever since. The more I learn more about her, the more I admire her. When I have to come back to my homeland, Thailand I was kinda desperate to find anything inspiring to motivate me to continue doing Applied Theatre in this country. Her show feed my inspiration and now this talk really speaks to me personally. Being a working woman in a patriarchy culture is damn hard, I feel like I was being tested everyday. Sometime it makes you feel invisible...I guess I have to listen to Catherine for once again and toughen up a lil bit more!

This video brought tears to my eyes. I have been very hesitant in jumping in and saying yes to a business model I know of no one else doing. I know I can succeed in this and that I have a lot of interest and knowledge in regards to it. However there is a fear of failure, no necessarily failure for me, but letting down my clients. What if I fail them. Doubt creeps in. I have never been depended on by strangers to help them succeed and achieve their goals and the thought of having that pressure frightens me. But the last thing I want to do is let life pass me by and not having said YES to this idea that been with me with for a while now. So I say YES to the choice and putting in the work to make it happen.
Never heard of or seen working mums, but I’m a single working mum currently at my choice & I searched best ever Ted talks & landed here. I can’t tell you how much this talk has literally just changed my life - “cause why not me baby?” . Brought me to tears. I'm from Toronto and Canadian audiences are typically not as rowdy or vocal as American audiences, I've noticed. Also with Ted Talks the audience microphone might be quiet (or there may not be one) and so it sounds like they aren't making sound when they actually are.
Catherine your scene with the bear is the only scene that I could remember very clearly from the whole series, it’s got me so touched and so moved by the mother instinct you showed that I could never forget it.
I just want to thank you for that. This is a motivation, because I read this morning about God bringing dry bones to life and I resolved to live again. You are humble and I love that. I pray greatness for you.
It's so important to get insights into the lives of successful creative because Catherine at first glance comes across as someone extremely confident, who just eased her way into the world of acting and directing /producing. It's very easy to initially judge successful individuals and assume it was all smooth sailing because they tend to carry such a high level of self assurance but dig a little deeper and you'll discover that this confidence and self assurance is only developed through grit , loss, grief, rejection, tremendous hardship (sometimes) and many bouts of depression and despair. Great talk, she's an inspiration. It's crazy to me that the bear scene was one of the things the US network wanted to cut because that was the scene that made me truly interested in what the show had to offer and I felt personally empowered by it. I don't have kids and don't want any but Workin' Moms was brilliant. Networks get so caught up in the "relatable" factor that they're willing to forgo creativity and would rather produce lackluster media.
I have such high regard for this woman for what she does. And now I find out she hires women even if their resumes aren’t great yet. My respect for her just soared even higher. This resonates with my future projects. I hope she keeps the seasons of Workin’ Moms coming

Oh my god. I can’t believe someone actually said, “Is your son calling the nanny ‘Mom’ yet?” to her. That is one of the shittiest things I’ve ever heard. When that happened on the show, I near about lost it.
Interesting. As a male, who has never had a child of his own, I would never have thought that such a "harmless" joke could trigger such a huge effect on someone else. Even now, trying to empathize in the position of a mother in such a position, I'm finding it hard to truly appreciate how much you might be effected. It's really making me wonder just how many other things I take for granted to be light-hearted jokes are actually extremely hurting to some other people with a different perspective, and at the same time, how many of the times I've been hurt deeply, was in fact, because the other person simply didn't understand that I would be so deeply hurt by what they said or did.
@@YSFmemories Good point! I like this rule of thumb: a joking remark is harmful if the subject is something that cannot be fixed within the next 10 minutes. Why? Because the joke almost always has a critical remark baked into it. So, it's only a joke among those who can afford to take it lightly. This is why a joking remark about someone accidentally dumping salt in their coffee could be relatively harmless, but a joke about someone's weight is not. Even if the point is well taken, at the moment there's not a darned thing the person can do to address the matter, so they can only receive the inherent criticism about a problem they cannot fix readily. And feeling critcized is never funny.
There were so many times, i shook my head just to get reed of all the voice's in my head. But then how hard i tried, it didnot went away, so with support of my husband , i begun to build up my small business, worked parttime, and parttime entrepreneur and a full time mom. I never though that i can do all of it, but I did. My catering business went up with in 2 years that i needed to make a choice, and stick to the vision. I cannot quit to be a mom, so i quit my job, and since that day iam a fulltime mom and a fulltime entrepreneur. Thank you for the show, its amusing and at the same time, can relate to it.

Mad respect to Catherine Reitman for hiring predominantly women and giving women a chance who don’t quite have the qualifactions yet. I grew up in an abusive environment (alcoholic stepdad) and my mom had to work extra hard to provide for us as my stepdad would drink up what little he earned plus some. She is a very caring and intelligent woman and I watched her get passed up for multiple promotions because she was not a “favorite” of her head manager. As her son I am her biggest fan and with that I whole heartedly support anyone who empowers and is willing to give women a chance to polish their resume and shine. Great watch!
I haven't watched "Working Moms" yet, but this talk did something to me. I'm studying cultural and social studies and I LOVE it but I also love creating art and painting. A friend of mine who is an talented artist told me that making art is not based on talent but on constantly drawing and painting in his case to get better. And now with this courage this thought appeared in my mind: "There are so many artists and painters (trained or not trained) too scared to go out with their art and present it to the world. So why shouldn't I take the chance and get my art out to the world to see? There's nothing to lose. If people don't like it, it's okay. It's what I've created with love and it doesn't have to be loved by everyone but I wanna get it outside my room and get it into exhibitions or whatever. Thank you for this talk. This gave me so much courage!
For so many years, I didnt believe in myself. Because I was living in the dark. But now I realize that I had to believe that I can do anything in this world as long as I put my mind into it.
I was turned on to working moms in a breastfeeding support group. It was so relatable that another mom and I started naming other moms after the characters in the show. After the birth of my first son I decided I wanted to go to college, but it’s been 11 years since I graduated HS. After the birth of my second son I realized I wanted to be a lactation consultant. When I first started back, it wasn’t too challenging. This semester I had my first ever anxiety attack and then for the first time in my life, I started to doubt myself. Watching this has been so inspiring and I have watched it a few times over.
Thank you for your bravery and your authenticity. Love your show and the choices you made with it, to show how being a working mom can drive you to the brink of insanity...that is fresh and so real.

I just love her. That bear cry episode was so relatable to me as a mom. That feeling of protecting your child no matter what the circumstance. It was my favorite scene in the entire series.

It’s lovely to hear that she recruits women, even if they are not the best person for the job. This is the way towards a meritocratic society.
The bear scene is the BEST! Going “mama bear” on the actual bear…vulnerability and fierceness at the same time…it was actually quite touching and yes, relatable. We can stick to our vision with that same strength.

Been there. You’ve made a choice, now honor it everyday. The voice that says you can’t pull it off is fear. Put a face to it; maybe someone in the past or present who doesn’t think you can. Just because the voice comes from inside doesn’t make it less insulting. Don’t waste the next year worrying- spend it trying new methods until something sticks; it will stick eventually! You’re not making an attempt at being your own boss, it’s just who you are now, so don’t be afraid to make some decisions. Watch more TED, meditation, exercise, keep distractions few & far between...whatever it takes for you to clear your head and work. You can do this, you already are!

The bear scene was the most epic one! I wasn’t even a mom yet and it moved me to tears. As a mom now, it hits on a whole other level. I’m so glad you kept it!
I came across this show when I did my master degree in Theatre in Canada. Been hooked to it ever since. The more I learn more about her, the more I admire her. When I have to come back to my homeland, Thailand I was kinda desperate to find anything inspiring to motivate me to continue doing Applied Theatre in this country. Her show feed my inspiration and now this talk really speaks to me personally. Being a working woman in a patriarchy culture is damn hard, I feel like I was being tested everyday. Sometime it makes you feel invisible...I guess I have to listen to Catherine for once again and toughen up a lil bit more!

This video brought tears to my eyes. I have been very hesitant in jumping in and saying yes to a business model I know of no one else doing. I know I can succeed in this and that I have a lot of interest and knowledge in regards to it. However there is a fear of failure, no necessarily failure for me, but letting down my clients. What if I fail them. Doubt creeps in. I have never been depended on by strangers to help them succeed and achieve their goals and the thought of having that pressure frightens me. But the last thing I want to do is let life pass me by and not having said YES to this idea that been with me with for a while now. So I say YES to the choice and putting in the work to make it happen.

I'm from Toronto and Canadian audiences are typically not as rowdy or vocal as American audiences, I've noticed. Also with Ted Talks the audience microphone might be quiet (or there may not be one) and so it sounds like they aren't making sound when they actually are.
Catherine your scene with the bear is the only scene that I could remember very clearly from the whole series, it’s got me so touched and so moved by the mother instinct you showed that I could never forget it.

It's so important to get insights into the lives of successful creative because Catherine at first glance comes across as someone extremely confident, who just eased her way into the world of acting and directing /producing. It's very easy to initially judge successful individuals and assume it was all smooth sailing because they tend to carry such a high level of self assurance but dig a little deeper and you'll discover that this confidence and self assurance is only developed through grit , loss, grief, rejection, tremendous hardship (sometimes) and many bouts of depression and despair. Thank you for sharing your story, we love your show and we hope you never stop performing and writing 💜💜and thank you for not giving up!!

I am the brand of who I am, I am my project, I am the work of art, being freely expressive with my true happiness of life by being the best person for me, who my inner child needed most. Great talk, she's an inspiration. It's crazy to me that the bear scene was one of the things the US network wanted to cut because that was the scene that made me truly interested in what the show had to offer and I felt personally empowered by it. I don't have kids and don't want any but Workin' Moms was brilliant. Networks get so caught up in the "relatable" factor that they're willing to forgo creativity and would rather produce lackluster media.
I have such high regard for this woman for what she does. And now I find out she hires women even if their resumes aren’t great yet. My respect for her just soared even higher. This resonates with my future projects. I hope she keeps the seasons of Workin’ Moms coming

My husband got so angry at that bit. I cried.

Interesting. As a male, who has never had a child of his own, I would never have thought that such a "harmless" joke could trigger such a huge effect on someone else. Even now, trying to empathize in the position of a mother in such a position, I'm finding it hard to truly appreciate how much you might be effected.
It's really making me wonder just how many other things I take for granted to be light-hearted jokes are actually extremely hurting to some other people with a different perspective, and at the same time, how many of the times I've been hurt deeply, was in fact, because the other person simply didn't understand that I would be so deeply hurt by what they said or did.

@@YSFmemories Good point! I like this rule of thumb: a joking remark is harmful if the subject is something that cannot be fixed within the next 10 minutes. Why? Because the joke almost always has a critical remark baked into it. So, it's only a joke among those who can afford to take it lightly. This is why a joking remark about someone accidentally dumping salt in their coffee could be relatively harmless, but a joke about someone's weight is not. Even if the point is well taken, at the moment there's not a darned thing the person can do to address the matter, so they can only receive the inherent criticism about a problem they cannot fix readily. And feeling critcized is never funny.
There were so many times, i shook my head just to get reed of all the voice's in my head. But then how hard i tried, it didnot went away, so with support of my husband , i begun to build up my small business, worked parttime, and parttime entrepreneur and a full time mom. I never though that i can do all of it, but I did. My catering business went up with in 2 years that i needed to make a choice, and stick to the vision. I cannot quit to be a mom, so i quit my job, and since that day iam a fulltime mom and a fulltime entrepreneur. Thank you for the show, its amusing and at the same time, can relate to it.

Mad respect to Catherine Reitman for hiring predominantly women and giving women a chance who don’t quite have the qualifactions yet. I grew up in an abusive environment (alcoholic stepdad) and my mom had to work extra hard to provide for us as my stepdad would drink up what little he earned plus some. She is a very caring and intelligent woman and I watched her get passed up for multiple promotions because she was not a “favorite” of her head manager. As her son I am her biggest fan and with that I whole heartedly support anyone who empowers and is willing to give women a chance to polish their resume and shine. Great watch!

I haven't watched "Working Moms" yet, but this talk did something to me.
I'm studying cultural and social studies and I LOVE it but I also love creating art and painting. A friend of mine who is an talented artist told me that making art is not based on talent but on constantly drawing and painting in his case to get better. And now with this courage this thought appeared in my mind: "There are so many artists and painters (trained or not trained) too scared to go out with their art and present it to the world. So why shouldn't I take the chance and get my art out to the world to see? There's nothing to lose. If people don't like it, it's okay. It's what I've created with love and it doesn't have to be loved by everyone but I wanna get it outside my room and get it into exhibitions or whatever.

I was turned on to working moms in a breastfeeding support group. It was so relatable that another mom and I started naming other moms after the characters in the show. After the birth of my first son I decided I wanted to go to college, but it’s been 11 years since I graduated HS. After the birth of my second son I realized I wanted to be a lactation consultant. When I first started back, it wasn’t too challenging. This semester I had my first ever anxiety attack and then for the first time in my life, I started to doubt myself. Watching this has been so inspiring and I have watched it a few times over.
Thank you for your bravery and your authenticity. Love your show and the choices you made with it, to show how being a working mom can drive you to the brink of insanity...that is fresh and so real.
