    Is there any other differences between the F7 I and F7 II other than the app?

    Be aware that if you have an android phone, the app does not work. The light itself is great but be prepared to adjust everything with the dials on the device.

    There is a magenta/green shift option in the app for CCT mode, but it doesn’t seem to do anything. Is mine faulty?

    hello nIce video!
    😇
    in my current research on the pockets light I thought to take the falcon eyes F7. (in order to have 3 of them)
    but then I saw the F7 II release so I waited for a review ;)
    as you did CRI and brightness measurements. at the point of view of raw performance there is a loss compared to the first generation ?

      Hi! Thanks very much :) It does seem so in my tests, although it's very possible that imperfections in the distance or a different beam angle/light spread are responsible for that.

    Thanks Scott, it was your review of F7 Duo fold that I bought it, however, due to fact I got Aputure MC 4 set, it has been sitting on the shelf, main reason: diffusers on MC's easier to use, so my question is: are we able to purchase F7 II diffusers separately? Cheers buddy...

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 года назад +1

      Hey thanks very much. The MC4 set is definitely a nice kit. As for the F7II diffusers, they're not for sale separately as far as I know, but it might be a good thing to encourage FalconEyes to offer. Cheers!

    • @BranRistic
      @BranRistic 3 года назад

      @@ScottDumas that was the case with MC4 diffusers as well, as you only got 2 in the set.
      I did managed to get 5 extras via AliExpress.

    Am assuming that hsi mode only uses the rgb diodes at low saturations. Have you encountered any pocket lights that can add some of the rgb in while the main bicolor lights are running?

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 года назад

      The new Pilotcine lights have an RGBWW mode where you can dial in the daylight and tungsten light and mix in RGB as well

    Would this be good for taking stock photos? I have an overhead but need something to use a front light. My cheap ring light isn't bright enough to blast out the heavy shadows of the top down light. I also wanna be able to take it out in the field which I assume it's good for already. I can't afford 2 separate lights for these needs at the moment. I take stock images daily

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  2 года назад

      This could be a great help but I'd say before that, turn off the overhead lights and rely more on the ring light. You can use a piece of paper or white foam board to reflect it from the side and fill in some shadows since you're only using one light. Having the F7II as well would allow you to put a light on the background too, or give a rim light to the subject to help it stand out. But, either way, your ring light or the F7II should have a more pleasing look than the overhead room light, so just take it out of the equation is probably the simplest way. Window light by itself is also a great light source if you can use it. As long as you can't see the sun itself directly out the window (giving hard shadows), it'll be a beautiful and free light source. Just make sure not to mix room lights :)

      @@ScottDumas Thanks! I’ll experiment with that. Since my comment I found a LS Studio (3)soft box/(3)Stands, (1) 4 socket with 12 bulbs and a boom kit. All new $35 at goodwill. I was gonna keep 1 & part the rest on ebay then decided id use it to expand.

    What's the name of the app?

  • @DimusTech
    @DimusTech 3 года назад

    So, if I get it correctly, comparing to the older F7 (not the fold) they added the Magenta adjustment, scene speed and intensity control, app control, RGB mode, gel modes
    Well I think I'm less disappointed, it took me a lot of time to make my decision to get such a light for RGB options etc. and after I ordered it until it came, the second version came out, it felt frustrating but seems like the most thing I'd actually miss here is the better pouch with the carabiner lol

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 года назад

      Yeah I think you got it right... the original was a great light even though it had fewer special features like a lot that came out soon after started featuring. App control can definitely be useful, and I often appreciate G/M shift when mixing lights but in all honesty it's not an absolutely huge difference. If you were choosing between the two now, the II would be the way to go, but I don't think it'll give you any reason to regret having the original :)

      @@ScottDumas Ye I hope you are right, but after some, well it's not even use! it just sits on my table and I see that the white diffuser is like a dust magnet!!! I don't like it's quality and feel to the touch but I guess it will get the job done

      It's a continuous light, not flash so it doesn't need to be triggered by the camera :)

    I bought one this week and it arrived defective - won't start up or take a charge... ordered a second one and it also has the same defect - this company has to be more transparent. I'm very disappointed I have an older one (from 5 months ago) that works fine. However, I've wasted a lot of time trying to get a product that works!

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 года назад

      Very sorry to hear that... did you order both from them directly or a reseller? And if so, was it an authorized reseller? Sometimes stock can sit in the warehouse for a long time under bad conditions and with products like this that have internal batteries it seems like that can kill them before they even arrive. Happens most often with unauthorized resellers on Amazon because their storage isn't up to snuff... although not sure how much FalconEyes oversees that kind of thing anyway. Sorry to hear the frustration though :(

    NOT RELIABLE PRODUCT
    that's my review: I bought it through Amazon. Paid 149€ and received a couple of weeks later. All seemed perfect, the app was nice, the light was good... so I charged it, packed into it's box waiting for the next use. A couple of weeks later I needed it but it did not start. thought it was empty of charge ?? so I plugged and did not show any sign of being charged. Called Amazon and they made me talk to the third part seller. Today I got a sealed new brand unit that didnt work nor charge. Searched though "bad" reviews and seems I was not the one with that problem.
    Next step has been asking Amazon for refund .

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 года назад

      I'd just say here that it's most likely the seller's problem, not FalconEyes... I've had several of their lights under heavy use for years and not a single problem. 3rd party sellers on Amazon don't have the responsibilities for QC or warranties the same that the maker does, so often brands warn not to use them because of exactly this specific issue.

    • @MoreFoodForTheEars
      @MoreFoodForTheEars 3 года назад +2

      @@ScottDumas sorry but I don't agree with that. I received a new brand sealed product. It included a CQ approved inside. The box was in perfect conditions, and even had anti moisture little bags in. Amazon endorsed it (in fact they will give me cash back) so there was a responsability and warranty. I was not buying a second hand used product.
      I'm not saying all FalconEyes products are bad, but I had this problem with that one and I think buyers should be warned about what can happen, because I'm not the only one.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  3 года назад

      @@MoreFoodForTheEars The problem isn't that it's sealed/unused or not.. being sold by an unauthorized reseller, it can sit in a warehouse without restrictions in whatever conditions happen to be there, for who knows how long- something the manufacturers usually would not do- and batteries can very easily die (seems to be the problem) just sitting there, possibly over depleted, for such long times. It's those type of unobservable situations that manufacturers don't like with unauthorized resellers on Amazon, because even if the product was under warranty when it left their factory, the way they handle it afterwards can cause issues before it's even sold to a customer and opened for the first time.

    • @MoreFoodForTheEars
      @MoreFoodForTheEars 3 года назад +4

      @@ScottDumas Understand your point, but this product was released "a couple of months ago" so batteries shouldn't die this way. As I said I liked the product, and although I can imagine places that don't take care of their products and also a bad delivery I think the problem is elsewhere. I couldn't see any sign on the package (although you can tell me X-rays can damage electronics).
      Maybe once I get my money back I try again some months from now, but the key is I'm lucky because It was not needed for a commisioned work.
