That was some excellent rambling information. I am also leaning towards the Ultralight Performance 340 out of Florida. Most definitely need lights and locking locker. 👍 Crew needed.
I’ve had several ribs/dinghys, the best overall is still my 12ft AB fiberglass v bottom. Amazing all round boat. The most durable hypalon for the tropics by far.
Fiberglass is heavy, but I agree that RIBs will never last the life of your boat. Of course I still waiting on my dinghy and thinking a RIB might be better than anything :)
Good to see you in our neck of the woods! Just picked up our 1260 last week and this video has been very helpful in making a choice for the new dingy. Thank you! As for whether crew is "needed" or not. No... but it's always nice to have friends along!
Congratulations, always love comments from other Seawinders, we do bring the Dinghy series home in the next episode and after a year of research and contemplations, we ordered our dinghy, but you have to watch the episode to find out what we chose :)
This episode was number 2 in a 3 part series, episode 1 is ruclips.net/video/7utmBdMSNyY/видео.htmlsi=2STeccB5DLk8G4P9 and episode 3 is ruclips.net/video/ymZ1qQSup14/видео.htmlsi=7zh9U5X4yHuvulgY where we contrast and draw our conclusions. I loved the AST out of Germany, the issue is that there is only 1 dealer in US out in California. By the time it was shipped from Germany and then trucked to the east coast, it became quite expensive. I loved both the jockey seat and side console version but if you were to store your dinghy outboard on the outboard bracket during heavy weather, anything with steering wheel and console adds extra complications with removing the outboard. AST is a good boat.
Hey cools, great video. Have you looked at the Aspen Carbon Cat? After much consideration that is the one we are going with. It's crazy what these things cost. Enjoy your time on the water.
We did evaluate the Aspen Carbon Cat, we loved the design but it was the heaviest of all the dinghies that we evaluated, and then there was this ruclips.net/video/opA70qiXOeE/видео.htmlsi=RGshlm0I57y2xNkE I hope the UP 340 will last longer, Ultralight Performance will stand behind their work. I delayed my UP 340 delivery to save significant shipping costs but expect to have it in April.
The two that are more stable have flatter bottoms. They downside to this is they will handle waves and chop less well. You might also want to consider build quality reputation. On that the OCT wins hands down.
No doubt, I am hoping that the UP340 is the dinghy for us, I liked the OCT 350 but by the time it got to me, it would have been expensive, if I was in that part of the world it would have been a slam dunk.
Hello from a fellow Chesapeake Bay sailor ⛵️ this was a great video
Thanks for the comment, feel free to drop by if you see us at anchor, it will be soon

Watching again since we are in the same "boat" but want the center console. We are leaning towards the AST.

Thank you for your reply. I like your choices. We are also looking at the Highfield but they can get pretty heavy as well. Safe travels.
