As someone who lives deep in the woods, bears aren't that scary unless they're with cubs or just really hungry. If they're hungry enough, they will actually try to break into your home at night (though that's very rare) However.. hearing something as unnatural as a blaring siren in the middle of the woods, knowing there's no siren tower within earshot.. that would be extremely unnerving. It just doesn't belong there.

Cause now they can start to associate that strange boxy den with free food.
@@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim Yeah all you did was told them that general area is like free food central keep doing it and you might convince them to hang around even more and if you carry the food along the same path long enough them might well follow along to see where the food smell comes from.
@NixNineTen Coyotes would probably get it first. Or a mountain lion. Plus, there's a lot of bears since hunting them became illegal in this state.
@@VelociraptorsOfSkyrim They already associate human habitation with free food because they get into the trash lol. It doesn't help there's two restaurants relatively nearby.
@@derekdrake8706 they did the same with coyotes in Michigan for like 5 or 6 years and now they are year round open game because of overpopulation and moving into neighborhoods for pets.

IGP is a real gamer, and real gamers don't go outside, so seeing something as outlandish as a deer would be genuinely terrifying

IGP is the kind of creator to add an echo effect to his voice when he enters a cave in a game. You don't often see that kind of attention to detail, and I love him for it.
and another effect when he got killed as if he is the protagonist, not just a commentator. Pure gold.

I think that no matter how "over done" this siren head thing was, the fact that all the other games were rushed and didn't live up to the concept's potential in the first place makes this game all the more worth it to play.

The creator of Siren Head, Trevor Henderson, actually gave an official statement on the matter of multiple Siren Heads. He said that, yes, there are multiple Siren Heads, and they ARE a species; but they are extremely territorial, and will attack each other on sight, which is why you only ever see one at any given time.
I need more on if they have mutible then how do more appear and or do they somehow repopulate

The scariest thing isn't this really cool game, it's the fact that after playing so much horror games and having found bear spray and a hatchet, IGP still waste all his bullets on wolves and bears

I’d like to mention it’s entirely possible that Sirenhead is able to mimic bird sounds, since it can eat birds and take their voices. So, all the times he hears bird sounds might just as well be Sirenhead stalking him and staying out of sight.

The fact that IGP goes so in-depth as to put an echo in his voice in the caves is why he’s my favorite RUclipsr this guy is going above and beyond and I love it lol EDIT: I really hope IGP happens to see this but if he doesn’t we need to rally, there’s an Indie game out right now called No One Lives Under The Lighthouse, it’s an amazing game that deals wit the exact stuff IGP loves and I hope to see it on the channel sometime soon

Like let's not act like those kids didn't have psychological issues and homicidal tendencies probably beforehand but to use a fictitious story and promote it as real knowing it's not age restricted when the internet was still growing talking about sacrifice and stuff probably pushed them to do what they did.

The fact that this was made by a SOLO dev, just shows how the indie gamedev scene is so awesome sometimes. It's very inspiring to me as a person learning gamedev as a hobby!

its far from being the most complicated part but its annoying so you gotta learn it first
plus you can make a game without everything else but a code
it can be a visual script like unreal engine or construct 2(my recomendation for begginners) or it can be a code language, i recommend java, its easier, theres an app for that and almost every engine support java(uncluding construct 3, which is like construct 2 but less memorable to me)
@@tawagotoCage yeah, the programming part can be annoying sometimes, but its always fun to get down and dirty with the harder concepts of programming especially in more difficult languages like C++, and see your code actually run with minimal errors, its just a great feeling

For those curious, the creator of siren head has stated IIRC that the creature is an entity beyond human understanding. The body we see is merely a manifestation constructed to give it a form that we can comprehend, but it has taken other forms as well.
So it basically a shapeshifter.

im a game developer myself and even if every piece of art included on this game was an free asset(which probably is)programming all of this would be a pain, besides the fact that it takes time to find perfect fitting assets to any kind of game, some times its faster to maje your own accet than to find another one that fits perfectly the environment
plus this game was not only coded and put together by one person but also designed
siren head already exists has a long time but everything besides they was designed by a single person
every idea and concept of mechanics and gameplay was done by a single person
im a game dev myself and i know a few teams that wouldnt be able to do the job that this person did alone

Indie game developers shouldn't worry about trends and what things are dead or old or whatever. If they wanna make a game, they should. Especially if it has as much passion put into it as this one clearly does.
Seeing those two Total Stations at 13:09 (thing laying down that shouldn't be laid down like that) and the one stood up at the next clip (stood up at the cave entrance) make me happy to see Land Surveying getting some recognition in gaming, but they also remind me how much more likely I am to have to face unknown horrors when I'm out working. Edit: Noticed a third one in the watchtower, must be a big project they're doing.

You being impressed by the animations gave me life. It's an often overlooked part of games that absolutely makes or breaks immersion for me. Hopefully UE5 will help developers create nicer animations like these more easily
I love how 99% of the scares is just IGP getting scared of like, a deer or a fox instead of sirenhead xP
one thing i find a bit weird, is how you'd need bear spray to get rid of a fox, why not just kick the little thing? (i'd obvi rather not kick it, but like, if it's attacking you....)
on the other hand, the bear animations are brilliantly derp 0.o
I love how he is terrified at the random deer, but when he notices the siren head idol, he says: “Was that supposed to scare me?”
10:35 You can hear a creepy siren, what's cool about that is the fact that he took it from a real situation, i don't remeber in what country happened this, maybe somewhere in USA, they started the siren but it was broken so it has this very creepy sound. I think the developer took that sound and implemented it in the game, really creepy sound
They have these in Chicago as a tornado warning. They're supposed to sound like this.
@@MonteXMat Why? It would be a lot better if it was the traditional "tornado warning" siren. With a creepy noise coming out of it, it would probably take longer to realize that it's a tornado warning and not a random broken siren going off.
The sound is not just used in this game, many other videos and games have used it.
I'm only eleven minutes in and within ten seconds of the sirens starting up I was mentally screaming, "IGP GET AWAY FROM THE TREES, CENTER OF OPEN GROUND SO YOU CAN SEE IT COMING," and watching him instinctually stick to the edges of the clearing for cover, barely an arm's throw away from trunks that could easily have a camouflaged leg among their numbers, was just pain.
I couldn't see why the flies were buzzing, but with the way he looked up at the trees, I'd guess there were corpses? Which makes my brain lean on the "GET THE FUCK OUTTA ITS PREFERRED HUNTING RANGE" horn even harder than before.
EDIT: I've made it to Silent Lake, and something I noticed when IGP picked up the camera was how familar it was.
I have the exact same camera that I take on trips. Little metal part on top (fyi, that's actually an attachment port for a larger, adjustable flash unit), sliding switch, red patch of color and all.
IT IS A LOVING AND FAITHFUL RENDER OF MY FAVORITE CAMERA! They got all the damn details right, and there's enough teensy mistakes that I can tell whoever made it didn't just try to rip it and just translate it directly into a digital model. That shit was SCULPTED, probably over many hours. Will the wonders ever cease with this developer?!
There's nothing more gut wrenching than facing a near unbeatable predator that's no doubt hiding in your only cover.
That sounded more like bees than flies. Flies make a more annoying sound.
they used a technique that makes this very scary used by subautica. it makes a situation where something that is rarely seen almost never seen. and it makes this environment where you just want to know where it is, you don't care if it chases you, you just want to know where it is at this time to avoid it. and siren heads siren noise to scare you is similar to the roars of leviathans in subnautica it makes you stop and look if something is close and if that something is going near you. you stop what you were doing you stop your thought process and begin to look for the source of the sound from a monster you don't see or cant see. master piece of a horror game if i do say so myself.
edit: I forgot to note that siren head is a slinky stick extremely tall monster so tree's hides him so well that it makes people avoid them. similar with subnautica's fog of war thing where you cant see miles away you can only see a few meters ahead.

Can i just gush a little about why IGP is my favorite gameplay youtuber right now?
1. His screams are hilarious
2. His dialog is perfectly balanced, he doesnt talk to much, or too little, he rarely goes off on a tangent like some other youtubers do sometimes, and the rare times he does his insights are actually usually quite interesting.
3. The editing of his videos are also high quality and another area where theres a good balance of not too much and not too little
4. Hes one of the rare youtubers ive found that has interesting videos for both solo play AND multiplayer. Most youtubers who try both usually only excel at one.
5. Hes chill. No unnecessary loud talking or overacting or blown up reactions to things, his scares and surprises all seem genuine.
6. He all around just seems like a nice guy, chill and dedicated to bringing quality content.
I just appreciate this guy so much

Yes, revisit the game! There are soooo many incredibly cool secrets! I have made a compilation on my channel if you get stuck, but trust me, this game is so much more extensive than you can imagine. This is also why it did not get the attention it deserved. Too many people thought this was the end, but this is one of 7. And there are so many weapons a other ridiculously hard to find secrets. The plus mode expands the game by a lot, but also makes it a lot harder. So please, show show-more some love and go again some more, you can play this through multiple times before running out of content :D

Massively, MASSIVELY impressive for a one man operation. Beautiful world, interesting mechanics, AMAZING atmosphere... Reeeeeeeeally wanna see more! Honestly, my only gripes come from the piddly shit that can be easily updated or addressed, like the voice acting and some of the writing.

Issue is with voice acting in horror games if the dev doesn't want to hire a VA it can really screw up the atmosphere and more if he's not great at voice acting himself

What I was trying to say is that the game is so well done that the only things that I can find fault with is the voice acting and writing. Both of these are details i see as inconsequential considering the fact that they can be easily amended and improved upon in future updates.
The whole pick up animations and concept is something that I rarely see and this is the best I've ever seen it. The fact that this was all made by one person and ITS FREE... God bless you
The first person team shooter game Team Fortress 2 does a weapon inspection animation like that, the character holds up the weapons (if you press a specific keyboard key) and turns it around to inspect both sides, until you let go of the key. TF2 is from 2007, but they added different animation for all weapons (guns, rocket launchers, melee weapons) back in 2015.

@@TF2CrunchyFrog n-no, in tf2 its an animation, on this chase its an invert kinematic kind of thing where you stick the bones into a pose animation and you manipulate specific bones depending on the mouses position, is not an animation, he can control it freely just like in games like resident evil 7 but you can see the characters hands

This was entertaining and I found alot of the jump scares hilarious. I like the editing as well. Just the gameplay was kind of annoying lol I thought you'd be able to use the knife against foxes and bearspray/shotgun for other stuff. Forcing the use of the shotgun at the factory was pretty neat tho unless you were able to use the knife or he would show up anyway in certain zones which would make it pointless.
I'm glad to be in this same time with these type of horror
*instead of the horror relying on jumpscares and ugly faces, it relies on the fanbase and plants an idea of the horror image that your brain just completes with whatever you find most horrific in your mind*

Flight: Run away like I'm being chased by a scoobie-doo monster
Fight-flight: punch/shoot creature and chase after the creature as it runs away

I love how when you see a cut, immediately after there's some kind of important scene and he looks exactly in the right direction for it. I have a feeling he missed lots of the jump scares and story scenes and had to reload to show them for the video lmao

The echo effect on your audio inside the cave was a dope touch. I know that's not really new but I think it's worth pointing out lol
