I've installed this mobo in a few different computers. Not a bad budget mobo. Great tutorial on flashing the bios. Most people just won't do this because it's too intimidating. But flashing Bios is very straightforward.
this is a really popular board, although the F variant is not great
Me, panicking and hyperventilating while it flashes, even tho it should be okay
My nephew is so happy now that he can play Fortnite on his build, thank you for the tutorial!
no problems, glad to help

Despite not owning this motherboard, Mike your tutorials are awesome, detailed and easy to follow for any user whether they be expert or novice 🥰🤩👍 Great work on all your vid’s’ and tutorials 🥰👍
Much appreciated!
That B450 Pro4 is a great budget board, performs well even with a high end CPU.
Also, there is a kinda big difference, at least in apex legends, between 2 and 4 ram sticks. There should not be any, but there is! Ryzen is built different.
Good tutorial and always shows logical steps to show how straight forward this process is. Recently watched your gpu swap tutorial, in fact 3xs, before swapping from nvidia to radeon. Followed your steps and all works perfectly! Just my errors in cleaning pc caused problems, like disturbed ram sticks so no boot and refitted a front fan back to front so one drawing air in other drawing it out hahaha what a rookie mistake! Thanks for sharing Mike and Kath👍
I've recently upgraded to R5 5500 from 1600AF on Asus TUF B450-PLUS II everything goes smooth as butter. Also there is noticeable boost in performance. 5500 it's good chip especial for upgrading older B350, B450 systems.
I've had this board for just shy of 4 years now, paid something like £60-ish for it, gone from a 2600 with 2x8gb 3000 memory, to a 5600x with 2x8gb 3600 and it's just worked like a champ. Here's hoping your 5500 works straight away on it (I'd imagine it will), it would be interesting to see real-world performance differences between that 3600 you've got in there, and the new 5500.
the 5500 worked great and scored higher than the 3600 in most tasks which i did not expect
Asrock b450m pro4 doesn't support 3600mhz, how could you get that?
@@dzaieri the Asrock b450m pro4 absolutely does support DDR4 at 3600 speeds and above. The memory controller on Ryzen CPU's is on the CPU itself, rather than the motherboard. If you use a 1000 or possibly 2000 series CPU on this motherboard, memory speeds will max out at around 3000/3200 MHz, but Ryzen 3000 or newer shouldn't have any issue going quite a bit above that.
@@thedandyp Wtf never knew this and I have this board lol
hey richard. im upgrading my 2600 with 32gb of ram to a 5600x as well. Did you see a lot of performance increase once you did that? Is it performing well in games that are cpu intensive?
Thank you! Every motherboard has a different button/screen you need to get to, and this help tremendously!
Thanks for walking through all the steps. Fixed a lot of frustration.
Glad it helped!

If i wanted to update the bios so i can use a ryzen 5 5600g on the motherboard would i select the ryzen 5000 ready downloaded displayed in the video?

old board now, but seems a lot of folk are sticking with them for 5000 series
thanks man , and this motherboard is real next level

Thank you too!

So far so good. Upgraded to the 5800x3d from my r5 1600.

I have an asrock b450m pro4 as well, i am updating my cpu from a Ryzen 5 2600x to a Ryzen 7 5700x. My current asrock bios version is P1.20, can i update right to the most recent version or do I need to flash install any earlier versions first? Also, it shows under the cpu chart that P5.30 is the validated bios version, but there are 5 more later versions, do i download the latest versions instead? And also one more question, the 2 latest versions are both beta versions, the third latest is not a beta version which is P5.70, which is the best version to update to? An answer to all these questions would be a blessing, thank you so much, I hope to hear back from you!
get the newest bios you should be able to go straight to it. if not you will get an error message when trying
@@mikesunboxing oh my it’s so nice getting a response, I spent HOURS trying to do perfect research because I know updating bios can be sensitive and risky if not don’t correctly. I’ve seen multiple people say I should update to P2.0 before updating anything further, they said this only applies to users like me who have a version older than 2.0. Does this sound like something that really needs to be done? In the earlier versions it also mentions in the bio of the bios versions that P2.0 is needed to update to them, does this imply for the now much later versions which are out now?
I also needed a response to that question, so nice i found your comment and it's so recent. I am also gonna be upgrading to 5700x lol.
@@Azrael_Xx_ Haha, Im not sure if you have upgraded yet but once you do, if your bios version is earlier than p2.0 make sure you update to p2.0 than to the latest version. I was told by mulitple people to make sure I have p.20 first and it worked once i did it, I was told that the beta versions are safe I just havent updated to it yet, i ended up just doing the p2.0 than the p5.70
@@SplashyPear I was upgrading just today also to p5.70 and i went from 3.90 so i was fine !

Hi Mike, I got my hands on this Asrock B450M Pro4 rev 1.01 board, where the user has unfortunately updated the new BIOS 10.08, but it has an old processor AMD A12 9800. The PC just restarts after the update. No image. How can I downgrade BIOS to older version 1.6 or other suitable BIOS.
Unfortunately, I don't see a FlashBack button here.
Thank you for your help. Can this board be updated without a CPU?
there should be an option to allow bios rollback to older versions
thankyou very much this helped
Glad it helped
I've been running Ryzen 1600 with these mobo with bios 5.30 no problems so far. Better keep the BIOS updated for any fixes.
i agree
Nice tutorial.
Thank you! Cheers!
will be getting a ryzen 7 5800x3d soon, thank you as this will save me getting a different motherboard for now.
quick question, im upgrading from a ryzen 5 2600, which this new bios update wont support. i assume i just install the bios update, close my computer and then upgrade my internals after but i want to be confident
yes that is right but not sure this board is a good candidate for that chip without a lot of cooling
I have the same cpu im upgrading from. Can you tell me how it went?
Hey mike, im upgrading from a R5 2600 to an R5 5600 (ive already gotten a new cooler to compensate).
I was wondering about the BIOS version notes stating that I need to update the AMD VGA All in One Drivers before updating BIOS versions. I’m assuming I don’t need this with a dedicated GPU, but I wanted to ask to just make sure. You ran into no issues with that, right?
that message is for the APUs i think
@@mikesunboxing thanks for the quick response!

Under the advaced PCI menu enable above 4g

Do you recommend updating the BIOS on ASRock B550M Pro4 (I am using Ryzen 7 3700x)? I am planning to upgrade the CPU to Ryzen 5000 CPU. Note: I am on the version 1.0 of the BIOS.
yes update it before swapping out the CPU
thank you
My Asus B450 F had all sorts of issues i thought i bricked it on Day one after bios issues had to Jump it fromn Cmos to reset everything and then the next Update fixed everything Automatically
It was squeeky Bum time i spent the last of my Budget on the Mo bo and it was Black screening Yikes all good in the end still on this chipset today though want to upgrade from the 3600 soon
yes the F variant is a cheaper version and doesn't seem as good in a lot of ways
Thanks
Thank you for the guide. I have a Ryzen 5 2600 (Pinnacle) and want to upgrade to a 5 5600. Would you recommend to update BIOS first or to change CPU before because ASRock does NOT recommend to update with Pinnacle. Thank you in advance.
update first before swapping the chip and reboot to verify the bios has taken or your new cpu won't work
Hi Mike , got another question to ask so I don't make an error with updating my bios that may be useful to others as well. When you choose the bios from the options, should you choose the most recent bios under description "beta", or choose the most recent confirmed version? Thank you
some times you have to use the beta bios for CPU support, i generally get the newest or the beta if no other option
My pro4 is running great with a 5600g. Nice inexpensive board for an inexpensive computer!
Very nice! still need to get that build finished off
Thanks for the tutorial! Is there anyway to flash the BIOS without a display? After switching to Ryzen 5 3609, my computer is stuck in a boot loop with no display showing up.
try using a HDMI or DP cable if this happens, the BIOS should be available before the boot loop
Thanks so much updated frome ryzen 5 2600x to ryzen 7 5800x update the bios number P2.30 nd currently running Rtx 3060 ti 12 g

I'm looking at buying a 5600x and compatible motherboard. Newegg says "BIOS update might be required for AMD Zen 3". Since I don't have any AMD CPU's lying around, how do I ensure my CPU will be supported when buying?
the motherboard will have a bios sticker with the installed version on it
uh oh.. I know this is old but.. I did all the steps in yourt video which was awesome.. until it shot me a blue screen saying it had some issues and took me to the recovery screen... Help?
you are doing this in windows?

it is just a revision so not much changed, the audio chipset is different i think and maybe some shorter tracks for RAM, i don't think there is much between them

I have an old B450 Pro4 (non M) board, I updated the bios to version 5.00 with a loaner 1300x from AMD. I verified it installed with checking in the bios and CPU-Z as well. But when I put my 5600G back in it just boot cycles, it’ll stay on for about 25-30 seconds and shut down for 3 seconds then repeat forever. What could be the issue?
sounds like a bad cpu or ram training failing
@@mikesunboxing Yea that was the most likely cause I was thinking, but it would mean AMD sent me a bricked CPU as I RMAed my old one to be safe. Had a different problem before, but since AMD sends refurbished CPU’s back I guess it’s possible.
How long does it takes to update bios? (sorry for bad English and happy new year!)
5-6 minutes max HNY
I believe you have to have 2.0 or higher installed to do this.
I have this motherboard and im considering upgrading my cpu from a ryzen 3 3200g to a ryzen 5 but i wanted to save money so Im debating if I should get a 4500 or a 5500 (ryzen 3600 is somehow more expensive than both)
if you are in the UK facebook market place or CEX is good for a used 3600x for about £80 - £100

congratulations nice video, I have a computer with this motherboard, from the moment I press the start button until the first motherboard screen appears, 10 seconds pass.
it's normal?
yes that is quite normal for some systems
Oh I had trouble for this. no one said this but. The motherboard is not like a cell phone. that takes the newest update. I was stuck in 3.30 it wouldn’t let me update it. to 7.40 and I thought I was doing something wrong. I had to upgrade it to 7.00. So I can updated it to 7.40. It took about almost the whole day. trying to figure this out 😅
nice one!
Was trying to update my bios and it won’t work. I have a Asrock B450 Pro 4. It’s on version 3.5 and should be on 5.3 but when I follow the instructions it says file not found. The USB is 989 MB so it’s under 32 GB and has nothing but the file in it (B45MP4_5.3). The original/default file system format was FAT- so I changed it to FAT32 but it still doesn’t work. The default allocation unit size is 4096. ***incoming tech rant- feel free to skip*** any advice would help bc I’m pretty sure this is the cause of a bad black screen glitch- I have a AMD RX 590 GPU and it had a ton of black screen issues the past year( black screen mid game with 57 temp and even some start up black screen issues) after following a AMD black screen glitch video and using DDU it still didn’t work. That card finally gave out and won’t turn my monitors on even tho the card is not toasted and my pc works fine with another GPU after checking at a IT shop. I temporarily replaced my GPU (until I can get a new one) with a RX 580 from my friend, but I got the same black screen glitch my old card had and that never happened to my friends card. Therefore I don’t think the GPU is the problem. That RUclipsr from the AMD replied to my comment mentioning the bios system could be the cause (my RAM and CPU look fine). Hopefully I can update this and not have to buy a new GPU.
PS- I was gonna buy a new GPU tomorrow morning but after my screens turned off mid game with this other GPU while on 57 temp. I thought I should update my bios before I did anything else. Btw my 590 GPU is just a bit over 2 years old and doesn’t smell like smoke or look melted so I don’t know why it randomly wouldn’t turn on when it worked fine the night before.
not sure what is going on there. have you tried updating a bios somewhere in the middle date wise?
Hello Mike! I got a B450 Pro4 R2.0, and a Ryzen 3 4100. All new. The ASRock page says, 3 4100 requires the 5.30 update. The board got delivered with 4.50. Can i instal the Ryzen 3 4100 (put my system together), and than still make the update? Or is a old processor NEEDED for that?
yes an older processor is required to update it. you could try it but i think it is unlikely to work
Quick question. I have the same exact board and a 2600. According to the 5.70 bios I wanna install it says it's not recommended to use a pinnacle CPU, which is what the 2600 is. Do I need to just wait until I decide to upgrade to the 5600x or would I be okay updating the BIOS with the 2600?

Make sure that you have already stored and backed-up the recovery key. If the recovery key is missing while encryption is active, the data will stay encrypted and the system will not boot into the operation system........im not sure what i need to do or is this just a general warning message?
do you have encryption enabled or use bitlocker? if you do then you need to create backup keys, if not ignore it

Sadly not on this board it will need flashing with a compatible cpu or apu first
@@mikesunboxing thanks for the fast response (: well then it seems like I gotta get a cheap cpu just for making the new one work..

So the bios can't be updated to support a new cpu unless we have an older and supported cpu?
yep that is pretty much the way it is with a lot of motherboards that don't have a bios flashback button
In the middle of this update, my PC shut off for some reason I can’t figure out. I pulled the CMOS battery for a minute and it still won’t boot. Im up a creek, aren’t I?
yes it seems so, although the BIOS chip is easy to get to and most repair stores will be able to desolder it and reprogramme it
So I just bought a ryzen 5 5600x and it put it on and the computer just blank screens and restarts constantly. Should I follow this video, or what do I do
yes it might need a bios update, although the restarts are a concern
Followed all the steps and still my drive doesn’t get seen at all in the bios flash so I guess this video is out of date?
it is an older video but the information is still valid

CPU: AMD Ryzen™ 5 4600G, 6-core, 12-Wire Unlocked Desktop Processor. Moederboard: Asro B450M PRO4 R2.0 B450. I don't know allot about computers, so I want to know is it needed te update? My motherboard is new and I haven't changed anything. should I change anything or leave everything as it is?
it will probably need an update i think
I'm going to use that same motherboard with a Ryzen 7 5700G, which bios version did you update? I want to put Windows 11
get the newest one
@@mikesunboxing Thank you, I am going to update the bios to the most recent version to use Windows 11 with my Ryzen 7 5700G processor
If I have never updated the bios on my motherboard, will it be okay to upgrade to the latest bios in just one step or would I have to work my way down and continuously download the next bios needed until I reach the latest version?
Sorry, I am still learning.
(Asrock B450m-IBW ibuypower motherboard)
get the newest bios from ibupower and just go straight to it unless it warns you otherwise
@@mikesunboxing Thank you!
So If I order this motherboard and a CPU that needs a bios update to run, I have to buy a second CPU that doesn't require a bios update in order to run the bios update?
that is correct
Hello Mike, my BIOS verison is P3.50
is it okay if I update to P4.60? which supports the 5000 series
or go for the latest one which is P10.08 also my new CPU will be a ryzen 5 5600
i would probably do the 4.6 first and then jump to the newest after
My instant flash will not see my usb drive with the bios update… i have tried every single usb port i have. Ant ideas

Hello, I have a Asrock B450M-HDV R4.0 currently on bios 4.10 with a Ryzen 3 3100. I am going to upgrade to a Ryzen 5 5500, and found out the Validated BIOS is 4.90. Should I upgrade the bios to 4.90?
If it is a yes do I have to install the 4.40, 4.50, 4.60, 4.70, and 4.80 or just go straight to bios 4.90?
i would have a read of the BIOS files, some will say to do a specific one ion the middle, before going to the latest
@@mikesunboxing where can i find the files where it shows which versions to update to before updating to the latest?
Does it matter where we insert the flash drive on the usb ports? Or is there a specific bios usb port on this motherboard? I’ve been having a problem not getting an output and im pretty sure it’s the bios update, I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and the motherboard has not been updated so it’s on the original out of the package bios.
any port should be fine on this but i might be tempted to use a USB2.0
@@mikesunboxing hey mate so I got a question I’ve got a ryzen 3600 with this b450 pro4 mb and it’s saying on the motherboard website I should have the 3.20 update but my motherboard is p4.20 isn’t this too much if so how do I get it back to 3.20? Also says on the motherboard website I need to download some vga thing for the cpu or is this not necessary? Sorry this is my first bios update I’ve had this motherboard like 4 years and I’m paranoid about ruining my pc but yeah my pc keeps blue screening and online it says my bios is the problem?? Cheers

So if I update my bios for a 5000 series can I use a 3000, 2000, etc… series or do I have to get the exact bios for those series ? Also is the Ryzen 5 3600 part of the 3000 series cause that’s what I want to update the bios for.
the older chips are included also
@@mikesunboxing thanks for the reply.
I did all of these steps and the system runs fine on my old rysen 5 2600 but everytime I try to boot with the new ryzen 9 5900x my PC just turns on and off. Any advice? I reseated the ram and reset the CMOS and that didn't fix anything
does the PSU etc have the power to support that processor?
I’m having the same problem. What was the solution?
@@Primo-Boxingsame bro you got it 😭
The thing im having trouble with is, my computer is in single channel memory mode, I have 2X 8gb DDR4-2133 sticks and they are in the correct slots (A2 and B2). Why wont it run in dual channel mode?
does it show as 16GB in windows and BIOS?
@@mikesunboxing Yes, on my pc about page it says 16.0 GB (7.92 usable). In BIOS it now says 16 gb, it used to say 16gb single channel. I updated my BIOS and that went away
@@moi712 Glad you fixed it 🙂
Also i have a Ryzen 2600x CPU should i update my bios? i am looking to get a new and better CPU, SHOULD I DO THIS BEFORE I GET THE NEW CPU OR GET THE NEW CPU INSTALL IT AND DO IT THAT WAY?
do the update before changing processor

Im already dreading it.

They always use honeycombs
Two Roofers, Bob and Dan, were putting a new roof on a barn when a bundle of shingles slid down the slope and knocked the ladder over.
Bob and Dan decided since it was early they would continue working because someone would surely come around by quitting time.
It was nearing 5 PM and they hadn't seen hide nor hair of anyone. So, they walked around the roof a few times and finally decided there was only one way down.
On the West side of the barn was a big manure pile.
Bob says,
“It's the only way down. I will go first."
Bob jumped. Dan heard the squishy landing and yelled,
“Hey Bob! How deep did you go?"
Bob yells back,
“I went to my ankles Dan, come on JUMP!"
Dan jumps... and sinks clear up to his neck in manure!
“I thought when you jumped you went up to your ankles?"
He shouts at his friend. “I did..." Explained Bob, "but I landed head first!"

My bios hasnt been updated since 2021 and i just got a 5800x3d so i dont know if i should update to the ryzen 5000 series support which is f61 or the current which is f66b and i am also wondering if the latest bios update will come with all the other updates before it like f61, f62 etc.
Get the newest version
Do i need a ryzen 5 2600/3600 in order to flash the motherboard to the latest BIOS?
yes but that depends on the label on the bios and the currently installed bios
I have r5 1600 with asrock ab350m pro4. Wanna upgrade to r5 5600. Currently have bios 3.0 and 7.2 is required for vermee. 7.2 says u need 7.0 first. 7.0 doesnt have any requirements of specific earlier bios and it doesnt say you need to read the description of earlier bios versions. So 7.0 doesnt have basicly any requirements. So can i go straight from 3.0 to 7.0 to 7.2? Thanks for help 😊
it is always a gamble, i don't know if due to the smaller bios size if the r5 1600 or first gen loses support in the newer bios
