The guy who sent that DAT to you is my brother, and we are both surprised that the voltage regulator was the sole cause of the unit's audio problems. By the way, he tells me the case and the rack mount wing already looked like that when he bought it used; shipping didn't do that. He's very happy you were able to get it working.
Not sure how long it will work, but the best eject belt I found was finger loom bands from Michaels. Seems to work on my mini disc player and you have your choice of many bright colors.
HI, I really like your videos, so clear and direct! Can you help me out? I have a broken motor, it is a 12v Mabuchi EG-530KD-2B. I found an abandoned boombox, it has a 9v mabuchi EG-500KD09B motor. Would it work to switch them? The 9v has some kind of round thing attached to it that says 16V.. i’m learning as I go, so any help is appreciated :) Thank you !
@@purpleghost4083 I used to have a tape recycling place near me, they'd have pallets of every kind of tape outside. I recently got nostalgic for cassettes and picked up a little Walkman I can plug into my active speakers. Anyway, thanks
No comparison to any analog format. DAT could operate at 44.1 16bit same as CD or 48khz 16 bit which extended high end to 22khz. This is a flat response. No measurable wow or flutter. 99db dynamic range. 2 hours on 60 metre tape 180 on 90 metre tape. There was also a long play speed. 32khz sample rate which cut the high end at 15khz. It just goes flat to 15khz then chops off. This was referred to as FM mode. Since FM stations can't broadcast beyond 15khz if they run stereo due to high frequency beating with 19khz pilot tone. So many radio stations in the early days of automation used DAT in the lp mode as it would allow for 4 hours of programming recorded per tape. 2 or 3 dat players loaded with all the music voice tracks and commercial they run and a computer controlling them and a station would run entirely in automatic mode. If course they all went hard drive based but early stations used dat as they updated from the old reel to reel systems. A 90m tape will hold 6 hours in LP When i got my first DAT I went all out and dumped my cassettes. I even had a dat player in my old car. Still have the player but the drum seized up.
do you do repairs Walkman cassette players i just got a Sharp JC-K15G new in the box it ff & rev but no play its from 1988 i ordered a service manual and assorted belt pack if i can't fix it can you i have no one near me thanks ps i have 10+ cassette walkmans and my sony wm-2 that needs a head also
I still have a regular non-smart cellphone, i don't have to deal with that crap. I've actually read that some new cars also may require software update before you can start it and go to work... Gonna drive my 2004 Corolla as long as i can, a great car in every way

The drum and capstan motor are direct drive. You never want reel table direct drive. The weight of the rotors is too hard to control and many a tape has paid the price.
What's worse: The app is no longer compatible with your phone. That's happened to me. And it's a mandatory update. (So, I keep the same phone for 3 years, why buy new when the old still works fine?) Interesting story. And I like those electronics repairs.
2:51 Yes, same with the petrol apps; you park by the pump, there's traffic behind you and then, update time or the app falls over because of pi$$ poor coding.
Google changed the way app updates work to NOT update apps you don't open frequently. I don't know how to fix that other than to open infrequently used apps once and a while.

I was just as surprised that the regulator caused that symptom.
That's 3 da40 that have had bad regulators. Both of mine have had them fail.

Well repaired dave :-D
The old 78xx series or sim, i have only seen a few pack up over the years.
The old Lm317 is very handy too.
Another great one Dave, what Size wick do you use? 🤔👍
Nice machine. Ill keep my eyes open for one of these
These are great machines except the belt.

Hello Dave excellent repair us usual. What kind of solderwick do you use sir?
MG chemicals
Can you still buy DAT tapes? I remember we used them to record DJ sets before mini discs. So satisfying to hear the sound working again 😌 👌 ☺️ 🙌
As far as I know no one is making them anymore, audio or DDS data . The only "new" ones would be NOS. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Haven't bought new dat tape in years. Still have a box of factory fresh tapes.
I miss DAT tapes and Minidisc
Were these better sound then a cassette deck? How many minutes could you get on one of those tapes?

I noticed the top board has TEAC stamped on it. So is Tascam badging TEAC equipment? (I've no idea who Tascam are. So that's why I ask.)
Tascam is teac. Its the professional division.

That's why I avoid every app I can avoid.
If a business requires me to use an app to be patron at their place of business...I'll leave.
Why was the unit was never fully direct motor driven no belts

I forgot about that one. Had that happen with the journie app when I had my bike out a few years. Wanted to save that .07 per litre.
Why the hell did they even make these belts out of rubber? Silicone would last a lifetime
Probably so that if something jammed it would slip and not break gears.

Well this one has been opened pretty much daily and it has done this 3 times this year at least.
