- While waiting on parts for another repair project, I decided to fix up this old Marantz Amplifier. The later half of the work was done on weeknights, when I didn't have a lot of time to film.

I did my first hifi experiences with the 1090 in my little town public library. Sennheiser headphones and Technics 1200 turntable.
Such a full and sweet sound!!
Ok, now i am not a teenager anymore and I have no more bat's ears but I found the same sweet sound in this!!

My old Marantz as seen here, is still working ,I bought it for $120 in I think back in 1972 . I miss my earlier Dynakit tube Hi Fi..also had Bogan amps..all technology now as old as I am..wasa thrill as a teenager in the 1950's to read HiFi magazines & also , Downbeat for jazz LP reviews .
Still using this 6 years later with no issues... Let's see how long it will last!
today (4/14/2019) finally bought a 1060, i wanted one of these for some time now... fully working, but in need of a good cleaning, maybe a recap too just for kicks... great piece to add to my marantz collection!!
Is there any way to get hold of You? I have a 1060 that has been completely recapped.It has a noise like static at all times.All of the switches and pots have been De-toxit. I can also disconnect the pre amp stage and it still just sounds static.Not affected b Volume or tone. Is on constantly. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

@@Hopgop1 Yep, it still gets used for several hours every day. This coming March, it will be 10 years since I fixed it.
Awesome job. I recently scored a mint looking 1060 with wood case, that I also paid a bit too much for. This will be my first receiver restoration. I’m super stoked.
When I restored the same model, I had to change the pre-amp transistors as the input ones were prone to leaking according to research. Changed non-working power light to led replaced some resistors with newer carbon & metal film ones. True labour of love.
I started working on vintage amps a few years ago and i just realised where my inspiration came from.

I love watching Maxxarcade videos while eating a snack. To any new viewers, Respect, The time I've spent watching these videos have made me learn so much! This man is very smart, I would trust him with my Mac 1700 if I had the money to restore it. Maxx would be the first person I'd ask to do the job.
Lived with this amp for several years. One of the best sounding integrated amps of the day. Sorry I sold it!

I had a 1060 hooked upto my computer back in 2000 till 2007 when the left channel broke. Weird it’s the left channel. It was such detailed, warm sound from the 1060. A brilliant 70s amplifier! Really enjoyed listening to tunes through mine

think my uncle has one in his storage room haha his house is full of juke boxes and 30 + year old pro and home audio gear and vintage stuff i would love to learn as much as you know he would have me busy in my basement for months your videos has helped me and hime threw me a few times thanks

I have this amplifier aswell. Though I haven't ever opened it and the Speaker Main and Phono seem to be dead. I really love listening to it and just like you used it for my computer only, so only need speaker Remote and Aux 1/Tuner for everything.
It's great so see people repairing these old things, I wish I could get mine fixed so everything worked again.

It is nice to watch your video. To learn that it is not only me that keep up long over night facing these challenges step by step and having a lot of fun when the job is almost (but not completely) done. For me (and a few others, I'd guess) it is like watching a short documentary and living the emotions through your narrative. Wait... that is just what it is indeed. Thanks.

Very impressive restoration!!! I've got my original Marantz 1060 with a matching Marantz 112 stereo tuner that I purchased new in 1974 and a Marantz 6100 turntable that I'm using as a second system in my den. These things were made to last and last and last. The only thing I've done is replace the lamps in the tuner. There's just something about these vintage Marantz that makes them so appealing!!!
Nice amp, good restoration job, that reminds me I have to get to and clean up my old yamaha setup, as well as look at the old Sansui amp I have, all still work, just getting on in their years of use.

Maxxarcade u r king. I watched ALL ur vids. over and over. I did a restoration on a concord cr260 receiver.and it works great. New caps,resistors, wiring. Bulbs,deox. Now im going to buy old amp again and keep on restoring. Its an addiction lol

I will save this as I hope to get my little brother to the 1060 fixed up I got a 1030 from a close friend that passed away and I love the sound I get from. This comparison to junk of today this is pure gold even with old caps that I hope to replace soon.
I have a 1030 also. It's a good sounding amp for 15 watts per channel. I use it for the rear channel speakers on my computer, with the 1060 running the fronts.

I have to say Marantz is king of the hill, I had one 15yrs ago and blew it out, but that wasn't going to stop me so I took it apart and Wallah !!! I got shocked well let me rephrase that, it pulled out it's glock and shot at me ,so I haven't gone back in that neighborhood since Man I really miss that baby,Might find another one someday,wish I'd seen this vid then

Had the 1060 as the heart of my system for 20 years. Over time the caps dried out,common problem with all amps of this vintage. But easy to work on.
Was time to move on replaced with a nakamichi. Marantz sat for another 20 years b4 I gave it away. Wish I'd kept it. Same goes for my pioneer pl12d belt drive turntable. I pared these with advent speakers 4 ohm but the match was superb thd was .1 very good clean sound for the time. My test album was always pink Floyd's dark side of the moon. Great for testing channel separation. My ear did the rest.
The higher end replacements didn't last nearly as long. And you couldn't work on them

For connecting accessories such as a reverb unit or equalizer. The pre outs can also be connected to a much larger amp if you need more power.

The transformer in my 1060 has the screws the same way, but it works and has never been disassembled... Good work!

Very helpful video. I bought one today, together with tuner and two big (slightly battered) vintage speakers for $50, original manuals and all. It seems to work OK, just dirty. This video might come in handy.

+Steven King my Marantz 1060 came with an SJ310 tuner, which loks as if might have been of later vintage than the amp. I don't use this amp much and since it all works I figured I'd leave it for now. I have other amps that need capping more urgently.
The speaker are quite pleasing, but the speaker cover fabric was replaced and since they worked I didn't open them up to see if I can figure out what they are. I'm currently using them as computer speakers on either side of my desk in my study. Awesome sound.
I also have a Marantz 2230 receiver amp that works well, except for the usual problem that the dial face lights are partly dead. Also picked up a Marantz 1030 amp last week which I've sent for repair as it seems to have a cracked board.
I'd like to recap everything sooner or later.

Hi just wanted to say that with Jim Lindenas and you all are the best at doing what I enjoy watching and hopefully one day get involved with more. It amazes me at how when someone does work on these with "Good Intentions" but lack of skill and appreciation for doing a neat job just amazes me. Keep up the good work!

De-Oxit D100 would be a good all around choice for switches and pots. It's what I use most of the time. But if your contacts are bent or broken, it won't fix that of course. For modern plastic pots, Faderlube is great.

I use Simple Green and distilled water for cleaning the boards. Sometimes follow up with denatured alcohol for removing flux and other residue.
I had one of these.
The cleanest, least expensive 30W per side there was in 1976.

I just watched this entire video and parts more than once. I have a Marantz 2265B Stereo Tuner/amplifier that I plugged a keyboard into the phone jack (don't ask) about 10-15 years ago. So, I and decided to take it off the shelf and give it a heave-ho. Before I did that I looked inside for a fuse and there was none and did find it on the outside back panel. It was a 3 amp and was blown. It lit up and I was so happy, but not for long because there were flames coming out of it. I later got some online help and it was suggested I check the four output transistors and sure enough the one transistor nearest the four scorched resisters was bad. I am nothing close to an electronics person but I am getting some help explaining what I need to do. He is going to supply me with the parts I need at cost. I am 71 year old retired mechanical person who is loosing sleep just thinking about doing this, but after seeing your video, I am going to give it a try. If it works, I will have my wonderful sounding Marantz 2265B that I bought in 1978 or so for $410 at Value House, if my memory is correct. Thanks for your great video. And now I am off to watch you restore a Marantz 2225 tuner.

Pictures and schematics. Always nice to have both, because sometimes schematics are wrong, and sometimes the previous owner puts in the wrong parts :-)

You Sir do some mighty fine work. A friend of mine recently through one of these in the trash. I asked him why and he said that the left channel was not working and when it was it wasn't very loud. I could of kicked his ass for throwing it in the trash because I told him it was vintage and worth money.

I'll probably keep the 1030 as a spare, use it on another computer, or stack it on the 1060 and use it to power a set of rear channel speakers. I'm hoping to get some more broken 1030's and 1060's to rebuild and sell eventually. I like working on them :-)

Ya the ATH-M50 are great on these amps, and the cord is long enough to reach my turntable too. I almost got the AKG Q701, but I think the M50's might be a bit better for bass, which I like :-)

I love Your vintage audio restorations! Really pro work and it is obvious that You have great passion for it! Your channel inspired me to get my own Marantz 2226 few weeks ago and I am going to re-cap and fix it. I have experiences building amplifiers but no restorations done yet...
