Hi Kay. I just realised after watching you for over the past year that you have four scrappy blankets on the go. They are all looking great. Love the fade happening on Llily's cardigan. So gorgeous. So lovely of you to gift a pair of socks to Mary Alice at your church. EPP is a whole new craft with you diving in now looking at gorgeous fabrics. You might need another craft room just to put all the fabric in. Enjoy the new craft. You can make so many things. I hope you have a great trip with your husband and enjoy relaxing and knitting in the hotel.
I'm so glad to see how happy and relaxed you are, and how excited you are about your new rabbit hole. I'm also gobsmacked because I'm one of the Rav winners. Thank you so much!
Yay!! I love quilting and anything hand sewing! I feel like there can sometimes be a rush to get more and more done but Ive always gotten side eye when I say how much I love hand sewing down bindings lol I also love to hand embroider it’s so relaxing to me! I can’t wait to see what all you make!!
I love english paper piecing too but haven't done it in a while. That is so easy to travel with even on an airplane. TSA gave me no issues when I took 3 knitting projects and my snips with me in early June. I have been knitting a little less but only because I am now spinning yarn that I can knit and weave with. It is all about what you love to do and makes you happy.
I just recently started watching your videos and I am enjoying them so much. I love that you show your other crafts too. Enjoy your trip. My husband and I are retired now, but I loved going on trips with my husband, and had all day to knit and play my guitar. It was fabulous. I just bought your Vanilla Socks pattern and can't wait to make a pair of socks with your pattern.
My sister in law makes beautiful quilts and just started a paper piecing flower hexagon quilt! Gorgeous. Such a nice portable project when first starting out.
Have you seen the EPP quilt that Arne and Carlos are working on? They are fussy cutting old table linens with hand and machine embroidery. They were inspired by Kate of The Last Homely House. In the early 1990s, I made a queen-size Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt. Larger hexagons, all the centers were the same fabric. The flower petals a 2nd fabric and a 3rd fabric to create a path between the flowers. After stitching all the hexagons together, I hand quilted it. My Mom and Step-Dad loved that quilt, so much they gave me a Bernina sewing machine, which was very pricey back then.
I LOVE English paper piecing! I haven't done it in a very long time, but now I might just fall down that rabbit hole again because of you. All that to say, I'll happily follow along on this new journey you're on. :) Have fun!
I have always sewed. My grandmother made a quilt. It was hand sewn. My mom made all her grandkids a quilt. I made my granddaughter a baby quilt when she was born. I am making my step grandkids a lap quilt. I am way behind because of my surgery. Then I have a lot of knitting and crocheting projects
Your Yarnable sock is looking gorgeous! There is never a colorway that I don't like. I've also given in to the EPP! I like the idea of starting with some coasters! Have fun on your trip!
Love the way you describe modifications to patterns. I am making the jellyroll blanket with your join method. Not only do I like the finish on the front, but also the very clean joins on the back.
I've done some regular quilting but never tried EPP. It'll be fun to see your projects ! Love your stripey patriotic socks! Enjoy your vacation and extra knitting time!!
Love EPP !! When I first started I showed my then 8 year old how to do it and she spent all day doing it and is so much better than me now, love sharing crafts with her, she wants to learn to knit but I have no idea how to start teaching her.
English paper piecing. How interesting. I know the feeling. I'm obsessed with knitting socks on 9" circulars the Vanilla Sock pattern. I've been gathering all my friends shoe size. My golf group thinks I'm crazy. Wait until they receive a pair of shorties. Socks are calling. Happy vacation.
Your English Paper piecing is so nice. I love the fabric!! I did watch Kristen and also Kate of The Last Homely House. I was completely unaware of this craft until watching their episodes. Enjoy your trip !
Your socks look great. I love the way you reversed the stripes. It has such a nice look at the heel/ankle. I am looking forward to seeing what you accomplish while away on your trip. Hope you have a great time. Thanks for sharing yourself with us.
I am not very active this year on summer sock camp but a on shawl/cowl kick. I have also been knitting fingerless mittens. I have two people that have birthday in August that will need me to knit socks. Enjoy your holiday
Now I want to try sock blanks! They look so fun. I’ve recently bought fabric to try my hand at quilting! It’s been on my wishlist for years and I’ve decided to finally give it go! So I completely understand, I’m lost in my own crafty rabbit hole 😂
I’m in the process of finishing all my WIPs. I did join a make along for a hat, but my wip pile is getting smaller! It’s such a good feeling. Love the Bee bag!
Thank you for the 41 minutes of knitting! Love your finished Cozy Comfort Throw!! It's beautiful. That's what I'm working on, and I'm loving the squishiness and mindlessness!!!
enjoy your EPP. I used to be a quilter when all my kiddos were babies, I enjoyed the designing and cutting and sewing of the fabric pieces, kept me sane with 5 babies over the years.
I have not yet tried English paper piecing, but I did give Blackwork Embroidery a shot, and I am SO hooked on it. Like you mentioned, it does the same thing knitting does and brings peace instead of frustration. Love following along on your crafting journeys.
I have never done Summer Sock Camp, maybe next year. Started my forst sock ever this summer but am in the middle of a long distance move so have been crazy nutty. Love watching your vidoes and seeing your makes and everything else you share. Have a great trip!
I have done EPP in the past. I had a small bin of finished hexi flowers and was working towards a quilt. In our move, the little bin somehow went missing (along with some other stuff) so I haven't picked it back up. I have the fabric and such. Maybe I should join along with you. I find the hand stitching to be quite comforting. Taking on that slow approach in my knitting as well. Have fun with it, Kay.
Welcome to the quilting rabbit hole! It’s a lot of fun down here. I am a quilter who recently picked up my knitting needles and started making socks. ❤🪡🧶
Welcome to the world of EPP! It is very, very addictive! I have been epp'ing for many, many years now. I'm currently working on a quilt, one more row to attach and then I shall be making my "sandwich" and hand quilting it. It has taken me 6 months so far and I do knit and cross stitch too but I don't have a whole bunch of wips otherwise I would get too overwhelmed ❤ I love all of your projects, your little coasters/mug rugs are just gorgeous. Enjoy your time away ❤
Oh my goodness, all the things! I really have to make another pair of striped socks....yours are amazing. How wonderful that you gifted the lady at church socks-I bet she was blown away! Your blanket will be so cozy on a cold winter day-and all of your other ones are coming right along too. Uh, as much of a ripper-outer as I am with knitting mistakes, I'd have been fudging too if I had to tink back over 500 stitches-yikes! It looks like you fell deep down the paper piecing rabbit hole-those little flowers are so cute though. Hand sewing....not my jam. I'm a machine sewing gal all the way. I used to make all of my clothes as well as my daughter's clothes when she was growing up-even made her scrubs when she worked for a doctor. The one thing I never took up? Quilting. Why? I have NO idea...maybe someday I'll go headfirst down that hole cause I've got PLENTY of calicos to use. BTW-isn't rearranging a room the best? Have a great week away-and happy knitting!!!!!
I thread basted 10 hexies while watching this video. So nice and relaxing to do. I’m going to have to check out this Etsy shop. Another thing you can try is mini charm packs. They’re 2.5 inch squares and are the perfect size for hexies. I just snip the corners of the fabric so as to not have too much bulk in the back, but you could leave the extra fabric and that would be fine as well.
Love your new craft In my high-school years I learn to do Granny flower garden. It's so much fun Busy my next pair socksummercamp socks pair nr6 Love your po box yarns Village crazy lady o so beautiful Sock blanket o so impressive
Have a great time knitting at the hotel! I've been intrigued by English Paper Piecing for awhile, but I haven't fallen down that particular rabbit hole yet. Your coasters look great.
Congratulations to all the winners!!! So happy to be a part of this amazing community! Have a great trip Kay, and enjoy all that extra knitting and hubby time!!!
So excited to jump down a new rabbit hole adventure, looking forward to seeing all the makes and progress. Congratulations Hawthorne grove on winning the sock blank and winners from SSC! Traveling mercies for all traveling this weekend and throughout the week. Have a wonderful fun week end friends! Blessings
I started as a quilter and picked up knitting as a way to use a different motion with my hands. I'm a hand quilter and would like to learn machine quilting to finish the tops I have hanging around. Enjoy your trip and be sure to visit some local yarn and quilt shops. If you're gong to Colorado, I can give you a list. :)
Congratulations to winners,,, Been so fun being in the chatter group on ravelry,,,and following the socks thread,,,, Love UR blanket,,,!!!wow,,,,So so nice,,, Sitting fun you are down the epp rabbit hole,,,,, I remember years ago starting these and starting a quilt,,,( haven't finished),! Like the idea of coaster back to back,,,,may hunt down some boxes of them I have started,,, Love UR stripey socks,,, Enjoy UR trip away with Eric,,,, Elaine 🏡
So excited for you having a little get away with your hubby! 16 years ago I went with my hubby on a business trip. I was pregnant with our 4th child and I got to leave our three small children home with my parents. Knitting all day and catching up my Kay Arthur Bible study....pure bliss!!!! Enjoy 💕
I have a great number of hotel knitting projects - wonderful, especially if there is a great view from the window - or at least a new view (different scene than from home). Safe travels
EPP is great ! Mindful stitching, it is a good craft to travel with and you can be so creative. I bought a Fiskars 1" hexie cutter and use flyers from the mail to make my 1" hexie templates. I really enjoy EPP! I hope you have fun with it!
I have a 15 plus year old Grandmothers Flower Garden EPP project in my quilt WIPS, this has inspired me to pull it out. I had a sock blank that knit up beautifully, they don’t seems to be as readily available as they were 10years ago. Enjoy your trip!
I just love your videos! I am with you on the Anthology throw… I am on row204…. So I have 1152 stitches on the needles and there is a 12 stitch repeat all the way around… well I jacked something up in a section.. and my thought was “how can I make this look the most normal!!! Hahah. I can see the light to finish this (only 9 rows left!!!) so just gonna forge forward!!!😊 have a great trip!!
Oh dear what have you done! EPP should come with a warning 😂 knitting is my winter go to, but English paper piecing is great for the summer, have you seen Agnes quilt by Kate from The last homely house, its beautiful. Emma Jones from Vintage sewing box also showcases Ashmead designs pre cut pieces, they are pre padded so they only need backing, and are great to embroider into, as Kaffe Fassett says its the process that is the most enjoyable and it doesn’t have to have a set time for completion! Enjoy ♥️🧶🪡x
Hi, Kay, Kindred spirit here. I hate machine sewing, and I love to peacefully hand sew. I am making a quilt as you go hexagon quilt with instructions from Emma at Emma's Vintage Sewing Box. That is the name of her youtube channel. If you haven't found her yet, please go there. She is sweet and charming, and so are her quilts. She does mostly English paper piecing, and she uses those beautifully vintage-looking Liberty fabrics. Also I have somehow managed to get into knitting stuffed animals for my grandchildren. It can only be love! Have a beautiful vacation! Janet
I have watched a few of her videos and she has the most calming voice! I haven’t seen the quilt as you go video though! I’m going to have to look that one up.
Happy hotel knitting! The sock blank fabric looks delicious. I’m excited to see more of your EPP work. Thanks for a sweet episode. Peace, my friend and safe travels!
I laughed when you were talking about fudging the numbers on the anthology throw. I am knitting a lace shawl (first ever lace) and I have had to count more and fudge just a little. Current sock WIPs, I have 2 pair going, but have been focusing on other knitting for some reason 😂 it’s bringing me joy, though 😊 Thanks for sharing everything! I enjoyed the podcast! ❤
EPP seems to be everyone's new rabbit hole! I have so much fabric and think it would be a great way to segue into quilting. Be safe and have fun on your trip.
I know what you mean about EPP. I was down that rabbit hole before I rediscovered knitting. I have several kits to make by Sue Daley Designs! Always loving socks though too!!😂❤🎉❤
I love all the blankets you are making. I keep looking at the cozy comfort throw and wanted your opinion on whether it could be made from leftover sock yarn in a magic ball held double with a light solid color yarn like you did? Do you have any idea on how much of the bare yarn it took for the whole blanket? I’m curious to see how your rabbit hole projects will turn out too. Enjoy your vacation, great info on the sock blanks. 🧶🧦
Yep, you could use up whatever yarn you wanted! I'm sorry I'm not quite sure how much yarn I used. I didn't keep track. I think the pattern recommends 5 skeins.
It was so great catching up with you, Kay! Your cozy comfort throw is beautiful!! It looks so squishy and soft. Your ribbed socks are adorable! Do you have any tips for avoiding ladders when knitting in ribbing on magic loop? How fun to have found another craft you love! I can feel your excitement and it is so sweet and I'm so happy for you!!
I can’t wait to see your paper piecing journey. I have toyed with doing this for a long time as well. The precut hexies blew my mind. I had no idea that was available.
I’m so happy to see YOU happy! Both Kate of “The Last Homely House” in Britain and Arne & Carlos have been doing paper piecing. Not like you need inspiration 🤭. I’m about to sort through my Halloween fabrics to start a quilt topper. Aren’t we lucky to have so many fun hobbies!
English paper piecing is very new to me! I’m recovering from carpel and cubital decompression surgery but still planning new projects in my head ready for when I am better!
EPP is a great summer project in Australia when knitting is way too hot 🥵 I was totally obsessed with it last summer (December through February 2023) love it a lot, but I do cut into squares and basting with a thread. Saw that on instagram and totally got hocked 😂
Bessing to you Kay for all you do and maybe I will jump down the rabbit hole with you. Love to do cross stitch and knitting. Stay safe on trip and have fun.
ooooohhhhh I may have to get back into my hand quilting again, it went by the wayside when I found knitting but your pre-cut hexagons have me intrigued! Such an enabler you are LOL Just teasing.
I so get you with the guilt crafting! When I started knitting socks, I completely abandoned crochet and I literally cannot force myself to stop sock knitting 😭 Even though I want to crochet, my brain says nope haha
Hello from Mounds, Illinois. My daughter said that you have turned me into a sock monster by showing me how to knit socks on nine inch circular needles. 56 pairs of socks so far and socks are on my needles.
If you haven't already check out fat quarter shop... They have a ton of precut 2.5" squares in "mini charm" packs. They're so cute. It's what I'm using for my 100 hexies in 100 days.
I have an Accquilt cutter that cuts the shapes for me. It is such a game changer for me. I dislike the cutting part as well. They have hexi dies for English paper piecing.
That is exactly what I ordered! 😂 it came yesterday afternoon and I’ve already tried it out and love it! I’m about to cut some hexies out right now in my fall and Halloween fabrics. 😂
I am so excited to get advents for the first time this year! I love seeing what you have made from yours, now I have to decide what I’m going to make. 🤔☺️
Wishing you a nice time away, knitting all day in the hotel (how awesome lol!) , It is my first year participating in summer sock camp and I am having a lot of fun :))

I fell down the epp hole too. I’ve made 3 quilt tops! Not a sewist in the same ways you are… Love epp.
I can’t wait to do a quilt top one day! 😍
EPP is great ! Mindful stitching, it is a good craft to travel with and you can be so creative. I bought a Fiskars 1" hexie cutter and use flyers from the mail to make my 1" hexie templates. I really enjoy EPP! I hope you have fun with it!
Ohh that is a great idea!
I did machine sewing a lot when my children were young. For about 12 years. And I feel about machine sewing like you do.😉
I have a 15 plus year old Grandmothers Flower Garden EPP project in my quilt WIPS, this has inspired me to pull it out. I had a sock blank that knit up beautifully, they don’t seems to be as readily available as they were 10years ago. Enjoy your trip!
So love your Moonglowyarnco’s socks! These are next on my list. Lily’s sweater is amazing, pinks are my fave!
Great podcast as always, congrats to the winners 🧶😊🥤
I brought the Anthology Throw pattern and started yesterday, nearly finished 144 stitches rows, love it !!!!!
Love the video, thanks Kay! Enjoy your vacation and I hope you get a lot of your WIPs wrapped up ☺️
I just love your videos! I am with you on the Anthology throw… I am on row204…. Oh my gosh, that sounds like the perfect vacation and I'm super jealous--have so much fun!
So far it has been great! I have gotten so much knitting done already!
Happy hotel knitting! The sock blank fabric looks delicious. I’m excited to see more of your EPP work. Thanks for a sweet episode. Peace, my friend and safe travels!
Thank you Jackie! ❤️
I laughed when you were talking about fudging the numbers on the anthology throw. I am knitting a lace shawl (first ever lace) and I have had to count more and fudge just a little. I fought the EPP pull hard when Kristin dove into it. 😂 Have so much fun on this new craft path! Always fun to try new things!!
@@CrazySockLady I wouldn’t have kept track either. Thanks for the reply.
I would suggest pulling the 2nd stitch on the needle just a little bit tighter. happy knitting!
@@CrazySockLady thank you so much! I will give that a try 😊
Isn't it so much fun to reorganize your craft room? I think it gives us a feeling of a fresh start.
I did the same thing with my anthology throw, at least a few times.
I appreciate you sharing what you are reading and streaming on tv. I am always looking for something new to read or watch so this is really great Kay.
I can’t wait to see your paper piecing journey. I have toyed with doing this for a long time as well. The precut hexies blew my mind. I had no idea that was available.
It was a game changer for me taking that dive into doing it!
What an exciting rabbit hole to go down…happy to follow along! Have a wonderful trip!😊❤
I have made two of the anthology throw this year. I loved knitting it. I love your colors 😊❤
English paper piecing is very new to me! I’m recovering from carpel and cubital decompression surgery but still planning new projects in my head ready for when I am better!
I fell down the EPP rabbit hole after watching Kate from the Last Homely House. Totally, totally obsessed.
Stay safe on trip and have fun.
ooooh the english paper piecing looks like fun! Another rabbit hole!
I love the greenish sock blank!
ooooohhhhh I may have to get back into my hand quilting again, it went by the wayside when I found knitting but your pre-cut hexagons have me intrigued! Such an enabler you are LOL Just teasing.
haha! You're welcome! 😉
I love the EPP rabbit hole! It looks very fun!
Rabbit holes are precious with new inspiration and love of giving! Enjoy!!!! ❤
That is amazing! I am so happy that you are enjoying sock knitting. ❤️
If you haven't already check out fat quarter shop... They have a ton of precut 2.5" squares in "mini charm" packs. They're so cute. It's what I'm using for my 100 hexies in 100 days.
My kids go back to school on the 9th. I can’t believe how fast the summer flew by! Have a great trip and enjoy all that knitting time.
Love your channel. Thank you
Love working with sock blanks!! Very fun to do!
@@CrazySockLady I need to get back to doing a quilt I started years ago.
I am so excited to get advents for the first time this year! I love seeing what you have made from yours, now I have to decide what I’m going to make. 🤔☺️
I knit my dad a pair of rib socks in hand dyed 80/20 mix , he said best fit socks i have knit him, normally use commercial.
Wishing you a nice time away, knitting all day in the hotel (how awesome lol!) , It is my first year participating in summer sock camp and I am having a lot of fun :))
Have a great trip! I wish you all the knitting time.
You are SO close!!!
Such a nice sock gift to your friend. I love the color!
Nice video, satisfying conversation thank you so much 🌸🩵🌸
I am so happy for your trip! Enjoy, relax, and refresh! Ellie from Craft House Magic does EPP along with other crafting.
I love the bee bag!
