Okay I'm not a teacher but I just have to thank you anyway, this is so helpful to anyone in general to apply it to their situation and help them get files organized. Thank you!!
I cannot thank you enough for this video! You know the intro made me tear up really! I just sorted out endless copies of files! This video gave me the push I neededyears ago
Nailed it! I am looking for a tutorial to share with faculty and staff...BAM...look no further. So many great tips and tricks, quick pace, covers it all. Thank you!
And I thought I was organizing it well hehe I loved the use of shortcuts. I've already done it with linked tables in Notion, but I didn't think about doing it in Drive. Excellent tips! Thanks!!!
I have settled on these top folders - Subjects (for developed material used across years. Subfolders by subject and those by unit.) - Classes (For timely documents. Sections always named by year. When a year completes, I create a year folder and drag all the sections in there.) - Admin (Department meetings, calendars, memos from admin, etc. Named with date. Like Classes, old years are archived into year folders.) - Resources (Support documents that aren't related to a specific unit of my classes. Ebooks. Research. Cross-curricular, projects.) This has worked extremely well for me since I started working with Drive in 2010. The main philosophy is to keep timely document named by time separate from timeless documents. Context always needs to be in the name, or after two years, you won't be able to search for anything.
Super helpful. I love sorting with sub folders. Made that big switch last year and was totally worth it. I love the color coding and emojis. Got to try that out! I made the big switch from word docs to google a few years ago and totally worth the time and effort!
Oh man, I haven't touched a Word doc in years! My wife still uses Word and she'll send me things sometimes and I have to convert it to a Doc just to open it. Haha. -Thom

My Google Drive is so well organized now, thank you! For years I would put an "A" before any folder that I wanted at the top. How did I not think about numbering them?!
Excellent content Thom . I still have many documents in my drive and this way looks a nice one to organize them. Emojis will be a nice way to help me know the folder content. Thank you so much for this. Greetings 🙂
Yeah if you do the advanced search, select 'folders' and then 'owned by someone else' you'll see all of them pop up there. Click on the top one, hold shift, then click on the bottom one, and right click and delete :)
I have a question. I am a new teacher and was just talking about this today with colleagues. Isn’t it best to create a classroom where we just keep all our beloved material? Cause the drive gets updated with the classroom organisation or?

I like it very infirmative. Now I can organize my folders
Glad to hear it! Happy organizing :)
This is also good advice for your offline documents / photos / video folders. I need to clean up my stuff .... Thanks, Thom!
Yes, totally agree! I finally cleaned up all my external hard drive a few months ago and it feels amazing!

For sure! Using years as folders is really great for photos and videos.
Wow. Awesome. Super presentation.
Thanks so much Zahir!
T,
thank for sharing these organizing tips,
especially the plan beforehand -file:
define the names of folders 1st.

For sure yo! Happy organizing 📁

Alphabetical could work too... A - Math Class, B - Science Class...etc! Glad it helped though Rachael :)
Great ideas! Love it!
Happy organizing Elena!
Super helpful. Now I just need to take the initiative to do the organizing.
What helped me was doing it in small pieces so I didn't feel overwhelmed. Once a day I would just organized one small folder or sub folder.
This is also a great time to do this .... half an hour or an hour every day... no stress, but in the end you are set!
That IS the biggest challenge! A big push for me was organizing it so I could actually make this video. Haha.

Thank you, I have to think about the 📂folders since I'm a school counselor. But this was a good general organization 💡idea.
Yeah there are so many folder structure possibilities to think through! Happy organizing :)

Thanks for the great comment Oscar!
Great information. This was very helpful. I did this last year for myself. Next time would you slow down your talking speed. Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback MsRoRo :)
Thank you!!! Is there an easy and fast way to delete all my shared folders (students work)? I want to start with a clean Drive this year.

Sir,is it possible to give automatic permission to google drive the user immediately after he enrolled enrolled to My course
If you share an entire folder with someone, everything you put in that folder will automatically be shared. Is that what you mean?
