I was shocked my car had over 5000 idle and 387,000 miles and had that yellow cork and the black transmission fluid led me to believe that it was not ever serviced. Still shifts strong.

      Right on Josh,
It’s common for cars to have regular transmission services by means of fluid flushing machines throughout their life, and never having the filter replaced, or magnet cleaned.
Btw, I’ve never seen you around here before. Welcome to the club, prepare to be disappointed. lol

Pro tip for installing an aftermarket drain plug. When you make or drill the hole don't use a drill bit. large drill bits can mangle sheet metal. Use a Unibit or a step bit. They are great for sheet metal.

Really enjoy your content. First, let me say I am a proponent of withdrawing fluid only. Less chance for an error. There are no combustion byproducts to contaminate the fluid like engine oil. I also know people who made a mistake resealing the pan working in their driveway and gradually lost fluid and cooked the tranny. So continuously updating/refreshing the fluid at 30,000 miles seems appropriate. I get 4 quarts out via the cooler line. There are a total of 13.9 in a 4R70W and I am guessing about the same in the later 4R75W. So you only get about 29% out with each change. I have used Mobil-1 Mercon V which I still have a 10 qt reserve on and once that’s gone I probably will go to the Motorcraft unless something new comes along. I’ve bought my GM new 19 years 2 months ago and that is what I have done and it has worked for me so far.

My 1998 Crown Vic is 25 years old and it has its transmission fluid changed regularly. When i bought it before the pandemic, i did a complete fluid replacement. I siphoned 4 quarts out through the cooler line, drop the pan without a huge mess and then drain the torque converter. Mine luckily had the torque converter drain plug😅. It shifts good!

I did the transmission service 1 week after owning my car, did it in the garage with no more than my body with of room under the car.
Luckily. I did the cooler line (WITH a viper remote start on my car). So I was able to drain the pan like you said with the trans cooler line pulled by myself with my viper remote starting and killing the engine. Was nice and easy that way.
I got the original pan still on it. Didn’t switch it out for one with a drain plug. I was also gifted with finding the lollipop Cracker Jack Prize in the pan :)
Also had a bit of a hard time fitting a socket on some of the bolts with my frame/transmission support brace right next to the pan. Was the most difficult part.
Not sure if you specified about the orange O ring on the filter always getting stuck in the valve body when you go to remove it that you NEED to remove.
    Great video chuck!

Just got your video as a recommendation when I was searching for videos on changing the transmission fluid and filter on my 2000 ford expedition 4.6L V8 Triton XLT.
So I have a question because my vehicle owner's manual states to use Motorcraft Mercon V ATF, but I was wondering why did Motorcraft combine transmission fluid and power steering fluid as stated on the bottle?
    Just curious about that.
As a female, I'm new to repairing my own vehicle since I was ripped off once and I won't allow anyone else to work on it but me.

    Here’s a question-
I have an ‘07 CVPI. I’ve been starting to discover that whenever I’ve been sitting in traffic for a while that the 1-2 shift is pretty hard. It’s usually around when the cooling fan kicks in. In fact, the last time I was in a gridlock situation, not only did the hard shift situation take place, but it even went into a kind of limp mode, where all shifts were made really low RPM.
It shifts normally when the car is good or when traffic is normal (no gridlock). Transmission fluid is fresh the car hasn’t kicked out any CELs as of yet.
Some online sources claim it’s the DPFE/EGR sensor while others say it might be any of the speed sensors on the car. One even said it might be the ECT sensor (which I’m hearing now that there may not be one depending on the year).
    Any help would be appreciated.

Is it saying can only use Middle East fuel company’s lmao ? That’s on my 06 GM. Then on the 06 TC it says use regular fuel not even unleaded. Regular. • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  2 года назад +3

      Right on Marco,
Thanks for watching, and the great question.
This is one of those questions if you asked two different people, you might get 5 different answers. lol
Each situation must be evaluated on a case by case basis.
Before I give you my answer, remember to do your own research, confirm & verify, use your best judgment, and do what's best for you application. The going rate for your transmission is around $1,500 parts, and $1,500 labor to replace, so keep that in mind.
      If it were my car I would;
Order a drain plug, or a new pan with a drain plug already installed.
Order a Motorcraft Filter, and 5-12 quarts of Motorcraft Mercon V. Right now Amazon has the 5 quart jug on sale for $38.56.
Drop the pan, clean the magnet, replace the filter, save the 4 quarts you drain out along with the old filter. Instal the new drain plug, or new pan with drain plug. Underfill the transmission by 1 quart, (only add 3 quarts). Watch this video on how to check the fluid level before adding the final 4th quart; ruclips.net/video/57ay6uMlbFo/видео.html
Then change all other fluids in the car, power steering, brake fluid, differential fluid, etc.

“Can I use this maxlife in a 4r70w? I see the data sheet lists compatibility with Mercon V, but I won't trust it until I get some opinions”

I always put relevant information with links in the description box of every video, so always check the description box.
I just checked the Walmart FT-100 link, and it says in stock, sold & shipped by Walmart for $14.93. That’s a good price, you may want to pick up 2, or 3 before they raise the price. Lol
The link of the drain pan w/ plug is also in the description box. Currently $27.86 in stock, sold & shipped by Amazon. Some folks down below said the dorman pan works great, others said the paint peels of from the inside, and they had to remove the rest of the paint. So you may want to get a hold of an OEM pan, and add your own drain plug, or get one from the junk yard of an old U-Haul truck that already had a drain plug in it.

Usually the first time you do your transmission service it's a good idea to measure how much you drain out.
For example if you drain out 4 quarts, start by adding 3 quarts back when finished.
Then add in increments of 8oz. at a time until the correct level is reached.
If you overfill, you'll be glad you installed the drain plug.

Lots of good info, Chuck. I have a 2008 CVPI.... according to your color chart, my car could have 2 different transmissions in it. How can I tell which one my car has?
Also, I've always been scared to change transmission fluid. Once the transmission gets 40-50 thousand miles on it, I will never change the fluid ever again. My theory is, all that clutch and band material that has become suspended in the fluid is now required to be there for the transmission to operate correctly. If I remove all that suspended material, (grit) now there isn't enough "friction" for the remaining material on clutches and bands to hold properly. I have an old friend who owned a transmission shop in a large metropolitan area and he did all the transmission work on the city squad cars (crown vics). He did dozens of CVPI transmissions every year. In fact, we always "test drove" a squad car to lunch whenever we went to lunch together. lolol. Anyway, he built a transmission for me years ago for an old Chevy truck that I had and he told me "change the fluid around 20,000 miles then never touch it again". I realize this is an old and tired discussion on the internet that has been argued on old forums for many years..... I was just wondering what your opinion was on the topic.

I know a sure way to find out if you have the updated transmission but you have to drop the pan. An early 08 will have plastic lead frame (hard plastic terminal strip to connect to the internal electronics) late 08 ford went to a traditional wire harness

    • @PanzerPlatform
      @PanzerPlatform  2 года назад +1

      Right on Brian,
I was hoping you’d stop by.
Ford offered four different transmissions in our Panther Cars from 1992-2011.
      4R70W
      4R70E
      4R75W
      4R75E
4 stands for four forward gears.
R stands for rear wheel drive.
      70, or 75 stands for ft-lb of torque capability, (700ft-lb / 750ft-lb).
W stands for “Wide Ratio” compared to earlier AOD versions.
E stands for Electronic Throttle Body, (2005-2011)
There are a few different ways to determine what transmission is in your 2008 CVPI. The first place I would look is the Federal Motor Safety Compliance Certification Label on the driver door jam. Look at the very bottom of the label for “TR”. Under TR with be a transmission code. The 2008 Owner’s Manual indicates TR Code “Q” has the 4R75E.
The next place I would look is the stampings on the side of the transmission case to confirm & verify, (the previous owner may have installed a different one). Next as C-Raud suggested would be to drop the pan, and look for more stamping identifications.
As far as my “opinion” on changing transmission fluid I respectfully decline to answer, because everyone has a different application, and the decision wether to do it, or not should be evaluated on a case by case basis. I apologize for the lame answer, but I am truly a coward. Lol

You may want to start with just the 4 quarts that come out with a pan drop.
And then drive it around for a month or so.
And then change the filter, and clean the magnet one more time.
The OEM Motorcraft filters are only $15.
And this time if you want, there is a drain plug on the bottom of the torque converter on the 2002, and older models that will let you drain another 6-8 quarts.
After you do that you will most likely never need to change the filter, or clean the pan magnet, and you can just drain 4 quarts once a year through your new drain plug.
