  • Absolutely lovely, though the very loud brass instrument in the beginning is part of the record. Probably some mishap, though on the 7 inch record it’s not present.
    Recorded 9/1/1904 (September 1st, 1904)

I posted this by R Lloyd Morgan on a Nicole Record. They certainly wrote some good songs for these early musicals. Have listened to a lot of Stanley Kirkby & wonder if you're playing it a bit fast. Records of this age were deviated a fair bit from what was later to become the 78 rpm norm.

Will check it out, I do really like this song. There is another version of this record online and it does different, I can slow it down a few rpm. I don’t edit the speeds yet as I don’t have good ears (yet) for this and little information exists. Thanks a lot.

@@colonelbogeysfauxcow My copy by R Lloyd Morgan appears slower, but can't be 100% sure I've got it right, as I only have another two of his recordings. Possibly 'an ear for speed' develops over time & of course, familiarity with the artist. Always reluctant to criticise, as I've made some speed bloopers in my earlier postings. I use a laser tachometer for records of known playback speeds, as speed regulators on gramophones can drift out of calibration over time.

@@tiga4180Seems the general consensus is that this is too fast, any criticisms or simple suggestions always help!

Nauck’s doesn’t disappoint with condition, or their stock. I found a very clean Tommy Dorsey HMV from the collection (that was bought from naucks) that was a very fun jazz piece and just thought about how much you can get for 3 dollars from there! A great condition and very enjoyable uncommon record to find in the states for three bucks.
Though while this wasn’t three bucks I’m incredibly happy to have this (it’s a new favorite for me), they had another Kirkby G&T and a whole section of English acoustic records. Many were not bought after it ended, though I didn’t bother getting them as if I wanted 10 records it would have been a bit more than I wanted for it. I lost and got what I really wanted!
