My backyard is now a weed herb garden.
It is AMAZING what grows if you just let nature be.
My husband is a spray freak (not that he’s allowed to anymore 😡) and it’s very hard for him to accept the yard in this “unruly” state!!!!!

This is invaluable info! I’ve been using Malva sylvestris (oral) to treat rectal inflammation (I have Crohn’s disease), mainly because its been noted to inhibit growth of sulfur reducing bacteria (prevalent in inflammatory bowel diseases). It is so far working great to keep my diarrhea, gas and inflammation under control.

I have had little mallow plants in various lawns over the years but never realized just how big they can get if you allow them to grow. This year I allowed the mallow free reign in my vegetable/herb garden and man did it ever flourish! Plants easily thigh high and nice big roots! I harvested roots twice and ended up giving one harvest away because i had so much!

This grows all over my backyard where I am not gardening. This year, I finally started eating it and it is TASTY! I boil the leaves like spinach and it tastes similar. I also saute it. So far, I have not had issues with the mucilage but I don't eat the roots. Good to know about how it can help unhealthy cells. Wow, nature provides so much when we know what to look for. Thank you!

Doctor, I have seen a pattern....each of my neighbors yards grow different weeds/plants...all our ground is the same as no one has really done much(reservation)...so to see such difference between yards was interesting...but as I researched the plants, I found that each yard had the plants each person was in need of. As my husband is related to folks in 9 of the 11 houses, I am privy to what ails most on the street...I have even brought many weeds home to cultivate( and ensure they're organic) only to have them NOT GROW in my yard...like dandelion which surrounds me, but none in my yard though I've tried for years...it would seem we are gi en what we have need of...I watched golden rod March straight out of the creek to one specific house...and no other...they are actually in need of it! Diabetic with kidney issues...I have also subscribed

Heavy alcohol use last couple years and ink cap mushrooms sprung up last may. Turns out they have been used to treat alcohol abuse because they react inadvertently when combined with alcohol. They are edible so long as you don’t drink for three or four days after consumption. The mycelium network is a gift from God. It’s shown that they communicate with plants and trees and I do believe in Grounding and I think whenever we ground we tell the plants what we need and we know certain plant species seeds can lay dormant for years until the conditions are right include the people who live amongst them.

I can give you a detailed step-by-step procedure right here:
      1. Yank Mallow plant from dirt
      2. Say "See ya later" to the part of the root that wouldn't come out.
      3. Wash dirt from root.
      4. Chop root and air dry it .
      5. Poke dried root into blender and powder it..
      6. Put powder in your morning smoothie, or make a tea or spread it on your peanut butter sandwich (mallow doesn't care how it gets into your body).
      7. Mix powder with water and put it on as a wound poultice
I'll try to do a video on the peanut butter sandwich part...that can be tricky. :0)

Great info, thank-you Doc! There's absolutely loads of this growing wild where I live, but I took a closer look at it today, with the thought of picking some leaves to cook, and every leaf I saw has little holes all over it, like some kind of insect or whatever has been nibbling it, and also there was always a leaf or two at least on each plant that had some orange fungal 'rust' on it... I didn't know if that means it's best avoided, or if I could just give it a good wash and go ahead...? Or just avoid the leaves with the rust...?

I wish you would have shown a close up picture of the leaf to make identification easier for us newbies. And if you happen to find one, a picture of a seedling with just the seed leaves and maybe a first leaf or two. I am 99% sure I've got this weed coming up all over my garden and I think I'm going to let it grow and harvest when the plant is maybe 6-10 inches tall. The roots should be easy to chop but big enough to be useful, and the leaves will be useful. It's considered invasive but I think I'd rather make use of it rather than just pulling up all the tiny seedlings.

    • @HomeGrownHerbalist

It's not likely to cure cancer but it does have some great anti-oxidants and other phytochemicals that can help the body fight that stuff. It's a great support for the body generally. As with most herbs adult dosing is a rounded spoonful of the dry herb twice day. If using the fresh stuff, take twice as much or just eat it. It has very very wide safety margins.

I live in a more arid climate and they seem to enjoy some shade. I think they have a chance to get too much water, but its worth a shot

I wonder if dog's can take an oral cold mallow infusion. So many dogs I've known got sudden tumors all over their body (referring to the dying cells comment).

Would ALL mallow be edible?? There's a desert cheeseweed in Arizona here.
