  • Hi, I'm Dr. Patrick Jones from the Homegrown Herbalist School of Botanical Medicine. Did you know that there are simple, natural, and inexpensive ways to reduce inflammation in your body?
    Here are a few tips:
    1 - Eat better: quit eating processed foods and refined carbohydrates like sugar, white flour, bread, potatoes, pasta, and breakfast cereals. These foods raise insulin levels and promote inflammation.
    2 - Take probiotics and prebiotics: they help balance the good bacteria in your gut, which is essential for overall health and reducing inflammation.
    3 - Try anti-inflammatory herbs: Boswellia, turmeric root, black cohosh, burdock, Devil's claw, ginger, and yucca all have anti-inflammatory properties.
    4 - If you want to learn more about these topics or dive deeper into the science behind them, consider checking out our courses at the Homegrown Herbalist Online School of Botanical Medicine.
    Thanks for listening and have a great day!

    I eat bread every single day, however, I mill my grains and that has drastically changed my life. All the goodness in real flour, as the Creator intended, makes all the difference. I eat, no lie, two 2lb loaves weekly. Im a size 2 and 52 years old. In amazing shape/health, thanks to the Most High. There is nothing wrong with bread IF you're eating it how it should be eaten which is with the bran and unbleached! I also make banana muffins and lemon poppy seed muffins by milling grains. And it's only me eating all of this goodness. Bread and flour get a bad rap but again, that's because store bought is junk.

      Newer generations are being born with more gut issues, making healthy foods cause inflammation. I can't do cruciferous veggies like broccoli cauliflower and cabbage. All healthy but they cause me pain. To tie it back in gluten intolerance is a big one and can cause inflammation despite it being a healthy grain.

      The opposite happened for me. I ground my own organic wheat berries fresh every time, then switched to Kamut wheat, then learned sourdough method, ate this bread all the time, it was incredible! I gained 20 lbs over two years, got arthritis in my hands, and my reactive hypoglycemia and allergies became my everyday life. Finally I got interested in the paleo way of eating and those things went away. People are different.

      If I stay away from sugar, carbs, fake butter, fake cheese, fatty fried foods, it’s incredible how much better my pain level is, but the pain in my back, a chiropractor caused two disc to bulge, a piece of it is inside the spinal canal, caused me a real bad case of sciatica and damaged my sacroiliac, oh my gosh, I lived with herniated disc 20 years, lots of pain, but this is a whole new level of pain. I actually think of going to his place of business and giving him a piece of my mind, if I was a young man, I would give him several fists sandwiches😂

    I'm 67 and had arthritis in my hands and knees (and very high BP) until I went vegan 8+ years ago. I eat a well-balanced plant-based diet and eat very little junk food. I try to eat a lot of unprocessed whole foods (nuts, seeds, kale, broccoli, cabbage, sweet potatoes, berries (and many other fruits), avocado, ACV, lots of herbal teas, grains, sauerkraut, almond/buckwheat flour, hemp seed, chia, wild rice, etc.) and very little sugar, processed oil, and minimal salt. I make herbal infusions with dandelion, nettles, raspberry leaf, and oat straw 5 days a week. My only supplements are B12 and D3 and occasionally vit c and K. I no longer have any pain in my hands, fingers, or knees, and I no longer take BP meds, in fact, I am not on any prescription drugs. Diet (and lots of herbs) for me, has changed my life!

I eat next to sugar, no bread in years, but my guilty pleasure is chips...crunchy , salty things ...😂 I lost weight after I went vegan and do feel better...I'm working on cutting everything but eggs and produce. ❤

    A friend of mine went on a carnivore diet. It's been a year and he eats steak 3 meals a day. His joint pain is gone that had been plaguing him. he didn't loose weight but he went down 3 pant sizes due to bloating. His depression and anxiety all but went away. He's only 28. I think the science on red meat needs to be revisited because I've heard other carnivore success stories too. It makes me think that it's red meat in conjunction with other crap that causes problems and maybe not the red meat in and of itself.

    You are so correct about everything!
    BUT potatoes. That’s a plant. NOT a refined carbohydrate. Potatoes are a superfood, especially if you cook it, cool it and reheat it. It then is a resistant starch which is amazing for your health and extremely low glycemic.
    😊

      @Marta_is_here 3 месяца назад +9

      @@nelliesfarm8473 I don’t think so. He is implying that potatoes are bad. What if you grow your own? How about organic?
      If I remember correctly he said potatoes were a refined carb, that’s absolutely laughable as they are a plant, a tuber that grows in the earth. Potatoes are not made in a factory.

    • @pttpforever
      @pttpforever 2 месяца назад +1

      While potatoes are indeed a vegetable, they are in the nightshade family of plants which can cause inflammation because they are mildly neuro-toxic. I cured myself of Fibromyalgia by eliminating ALL nightshade plants from my diet for a year and no more Fibro! After 5 years I tried eating a small portion of each of them to see if I could tolerate them again and found that it's better for me to eat small portions 2 or 3 times a week. Potatoes only once a week at most.

    • @pttpforever
      @pttpforever 2 месяца назад

      @@Marta_is_here Potatoes, tomatoes and peppers are all in the nightshade family. Nightshade plants do have varying amounts of neurotoxins and are therefore inflammatory. A single serving of potato is usually a lot bigger and heavier than a serving of tomato or a pepper, so one consumes more neurotoxins in a single serving than the other nightshade vegetables. Usually. I love fresh home grown tomatoes and have eaten my share of nice, juicy big ones! But not anymore.
      Everyone is different. At age 60, I developed fibromyalgia. Every muscle in my body ached relentlessly. Dr. put me on Trammadol and Flexiril. They did manage my pain, but the side effects left me nearly as in-capacitated as the pain. I didn't want to have to stay on meds forever and started looking for alternatives. I learned about nightshade plants. It took 6 months to flush the toxins out by not eating any nightshade plants, but it worked! After a few years, I tried eating small amounts once a week, then twice, then 3 times a week. I've learned if I eat just one average sized potato, one tomato and very little if any peppers in a week, I'm okay. More than that and I get achy.

    • @Marta_is_here
      @Marta_is_here 2 месяца назад +1

      @@pttpforever he lumped potatoes into the refined carbohydrates category.
      That’s it. A potato is a plant, not a refined carb.

I just done trying pharmaceuticals that they hedge on explaining except, "It's for inflammation." And Ibuprofen isn't a solution; just a temporary help that I don't want to use very often. This makes a whole lot more sense and is very helpful so I can decide what is needed, and what isn't - especially the different systems each works through, is fascinating info, but more importantly it's relevant toward considering what might work if another doesn't...like alternate routes to the same destination. Any oil that you get from squishing something is good for you. Any oil you get from a food scientist hanging out with a chemist is bad.

    Not meaning to get off topic but I'm wondering what herbs to take for peripheral neuropathy? I have severe pain in feet and legs. Also I'm wondering how to decide what herbs to take because there's so many to choose from and for how long do you take them?

    I so want to get off my bp meds. I used to do a lot of herbs and golden tea but now on bp meds I can't take much in the way of herbs and supplements that won't interact with my meds. I'm totally into eating leafy greens, fruits, veggies. Inflammation I have a lot. Just re-injured my shoulder and it's sore.

    I feel that sustainability is the issue with these exotic herbs that must be purchased or are grown in exotic climates that we cannot replicate. I respectfully ask that you focus more on annuals and perennials that are native and/or can be grown from seed, and if annuals, the seed can be saved.

      I think you'll find that I have a heavy focus on locally available "HomeGrown" herbs. There are a few herbs I really like that are tropical or exotic and there are a couple of those in my Joint Support formula simply because they are amazingly effective through phytochemical avenues that are hard to come by in temperate species. Read my books and sign up for the school, I think you'll find the majority of my teaching relates to using locally available plants. That said, I also have about 5,000 students in the school many of whom don't live in temperate regions like North America and who can easily grow turmeric, devil's claw or frankincense in their own exotic backyards so "Homegrown" can have a very different meaning for them. :0)

    Question: is there a set ratio for tinctures? For example, for 1 fluid ounce of fresh-ground black pepper tincture, how many parts vodka to how many parts pepper? Is the ratio the same for all tinctures? (mint, turmeric, etc)?
    Thank you! 🙏🏻💪🙏🏻

    He sounds just like my husband likes to click buttons. I bought a new car; my husband likes to click on buttons so while we were sitting at a red light he's clicking on the buttons. Light turns green the car wouldn't move at a normal take off speed, it was moving really slow. He didn't know what he pushed, so he pushed more buttons it went back to normal. Now every time we stop at a red light, I yell at him not to push anymore buttons.🤣

      @HomeGrownHerbalist  Год назад

      Alkaptonuria is a genetic disease. Unfortunately we don't have a plant that will re-write DNA. The best one can do for Alkaptonuria is control some of the pain symptoms. There are some herbs for that.

    Well, potatoes are jam packed with vitamins and minerals and ounce for ounce a more nutrient dense food than grain foods. You lower the glycemic index of potatoes by adding good butter where you also get vitamins A and K2. A potato served in this way is definitely NOT like table sugar. If nature intended us to take supplements, those constituents would never have been in food in the first place - which they are. Your food is your medicine. Just eat real food. And yes, some of the dirt on it. I love learning from you, but I don't know why anyone would eat dried herbs in capsules.

    What about inflammation in cats? What are the best herbs and methods of administrating for cat?

    • @Romans828girl
      @Romans828girl Год назад

      I can't answer the question about best herbs, but I can tell you what works for me in administering a dose to my cat: freeze dried salmon. I take a chunk of freeze dried salmon, cut a very thin (maybe a sixteenth of an inch, maybe a little less) slice off of it, trim it to the size that she can swallow, and drop 3 drops of tincture on it with a medicine dropper. The salmon absorbs the tincture like a sponge. Then I gently hold the top of her mouth with one hand until she opens her mouth, and I drop the salmon slice down her throat with the other hand. As a reward for being a good girl and taking her fishy treat, she gets some salmon crumbles - the little bits that flake off when I'm slicing it. She has learned that swallowing rather than fighting results in crumbles, and she's willing to make that tradeoff. The tricky part is getting the salmon slice the right size - thick enough and big enough to absorb all of the tincture, but keeping it small enough that she can swallow it without choking.

    • @sagepremoe1565
      @sagepremoe1565 Год назад

      I use the freeze dried salmon as a reward too. My cat loves them. I administer diluted tinctures in a syringe, tilt the head back and administer. I'll try lifting the top jaw and see if it's less traumatic.

    There are a lot of doctors who support the carnivore diet who will disagree with you about red meat causing inflammation. I am almost done with my 90 day trial. I have a lot of inflammation. It was stated meat is good for some with certain blood types and vegan goof for other types of blood types. Have not seen any research but does seems to resonate. Any comments?
