it just makes no sense to try to stick Wednesday's character into typical TV drama tropes like that because she doesn't have a traditional moral compass nor does she experience or express emotions in a typical way. So there's this really weird dissonance between what her character is set up to be (violent, anti-social, apathetic) and what the writers are trying to make her character do (be a chosen one, compete with other students socially, take part in a traditional romance and friendship). it's like the writers don't know what do with her because they don't know how to drive the plot forward in a way that leans in to and highlights Wednesday's personality, it's just kind of a quirk that's there but doesn't seem to effect anything.

@666 It makes complete sense and is totally the point. It's the Addams Family in a world of normal people. Well, the main focus is on Wednesday. Even though Wednesday is in a school filled with outcasts and weirdos, she remains uncanny towards her peers. Wednesday deliberately makes fun of shows like Riverdale. The love triangle is a gag in the show. If there is going to be a romance, it will be with Eugene.

this show fell into the trap of “teenager must hate their parents because they're teenagers” trope. i’m not an addams family fan but I can tell that one of the things that people love about this franchise is just how much the family loves one another. they love each other’s spookiness and darkness and support each other even when everyone else ostracizes them. i just didn’t like wednesday becoming essentially a pretentious brat who doesn’t like people (I do think she becomes less pretentious as the episodes go on, though). it was too generic and obvious of a path to take with her character. it’s like “girl dark, girl like death. girl don’t like people.”

Exactly. The rebellious teen is a trope that can be found in so many plots. The Addams' dedication to each other, presented as a fierce united front against conformity as opposed to the hokey, aw-shucks version of the "nuclear family", is what makes them unique in culture.

I like Wednesday not loving people (or not showing affection to the few she loves) but I mean other people than her family. The persons she really loves is indeed her family. She will remain less affectionate (I did like that hug in the show where the family all hold each other, she comes to them but her arms remain down but we know she cares since she came) but we know she would do anything for them, not get in a angsty fight with her mother. I tried to put this on adolescence but it is still weird since her parents are normally always very supportive and loving of their children. I didn't get Morticia being angry at her daughter. Morticia and Gomez are dark but also innocent, they love everybody. Wednesday is a bit different and darker, she indeed probably would not want to have a love story like her mother but would not be angry at her for anything.

It's really more about Gomez's hypocrisy; sending her to a boarding school for nearly killing someone, while hiding the fact that he had previously been charged with murder in the first degree. He was acquitted because of the coverup, but it wasn't until the exhumation that they had solid proof of their innocence. The public had wanted justice for the death and he had no proof that it was in self-defense. Given the chance to confront him, after he had confessed to it, would (in Wednesday's eyes) either solidify him as a hypocrite, or as a lying coward (which she suspected to be true.) In the end he was lying, but for good reason.

the biggest thing that irked me with this show was the family dinamics. Tim Burton is so hell-bent on making his main characters complete outsiders, utterly alone and detached from the world they live in, that he misses the ENTIRE point of the Addams family. We love the Addams family because they are outsiders together. The rest of the world might not get them, but their family is so supportive, so encouraging and caring of each others interests, even with the occasional murder and/or torture, that it doesn't matter what other people think. One of my favourite scenes of the The Addams Family movie is the theatre scene Wednesday and Pugsley perform: it's so gorey, but clearly took so much time and effort, so of course their family is impressed and cheer them on. Obviously they are the only ones who clap, but the kids don't care about other people's opinions, they value their family's above all. This feeling is so absent from the series it made me forget I was supossed to be watching an "Addams family" inspired show.

    • @victoriadias9900

@Franchesca lesward i guess, but the show banks a lot on the character of Wednesday we know, that was created through her relationship with her family in other movies/shows. If the show was about an original character, it probably wouldn’t have become as famous. As a pre-established character, it makes no sense for her to behave this way, especially with her mother, and it really hindred my suspension of disbelief.
It’s like if they made a show about Lisa Simpson but her relationship with her family was the opposite of what it had been on The Simpsons.
Besides, the whole asthetic of the show is based on other Addams family media, and to me it feels very lack luster compared to the other family dynamics we have.

    • @Avak25

I agree completely. The Addams particularly in the Addams Family movies they are seen as the opposite as a ‘normal’ family. They would have supported Wednesday and as much as I dislike the animated movies the family supported her when she was starting to act ‘normal’

There's so much I didn't like that I didn't watch it. First, the hot wife/schlub dynamic. I understand people feel protective of Luis Guzman and the cartoon also had this dynamic, but Morticia has never not been a snack. It's not so much that I don't want Luis to have love but I'd like some love for a similarly unconventionally attractive woman instead of an incredibly conventionally hot woman. I would have preferred Gwendolyn Christie as Morticia actually, even though she's a model, leaning into the height difference would even be an improvement, pushing the convention so far that it's not reading like Goth King of Queens.
Then I saw the clip where Morticia is disappointed her daughter doesn't want babies and I'm like... what? No. Wednesday's dynamic with Morticia, how she's her mother's daughter, is my FAVORITE. If you are going to give them tension, why this? Morticia would support the hell out of child free Wednesday, out of Ace Wednesday. If there's a conflict it should be over Wednesday wanting to be conventional, or choice of murder weapons or something.
This show just turned the Addams family into such a heterosexual dystopia, I have no interest in anything besides the dance scene which admittedly I have watched several times.

Might seem weird to "regular" people like yourself, but coming from someone who is very much like Wednesday, I understand the thought process behind that. I'll explain - so it's kind of like when you say, "I'm gonna kill you if you ever do that again," to someone that took your last donut, but you wouldn't actually do it. Wednesday still has morals, but because she comes from a family of weirdos and masochists, her moral blueprint is slightly skewed. Everyone has limits of what is right and wrong. Wednesday thinks putting piranhas in a pool to inact revenge on someone who shoved her brother in a locker is a perfectly reasonable way to handle the situation, but if someone were to actually die, she'd understand how wrong what she did was. So to her, hurting people (for, in her mind, a good reason) is okay but killing someone (unless they deserved it) is totally not okay. The joke about the whole "attempted murder" charges and Wednesday saying, "then everyone would know I didn't finish the job," or whatever she said, was just that, a joke, and that was all. I've made jokes like that before. Is it normal? Probably not, but I have a dark sense of humor. I hope that clears things up for you

      Hit show needs to have:
      - Existing IP or other nostalgia bait
      - Safe plot (murder mystery seems to be the theme on the more recent shows like from 2019 on)
      - Romance AND action (to try and appeal to everybody)
      - PG13 rating (to get more potential merch buyers and free marketers watching) which usually excludes queer characters and narratives
If you don't abide to all of those, your show will struggle to get investors and the OK from Netflix. And IF it airs, it won't be that much of a hit to please investors.

Surprised you didn't mention this: the cut of Morticia's costumes? Very odd. I expect glamorous, plunging, made-for-her, long lines, but instead it felt like an H&M Halloween costume. And the makeup was an odd look as well, because if she's meant to be naturally pale, then the foundation should look like skin. And if she's not, and they want to make it appear as if she DOES apply base makeup, shouldn't it look like it was on purpose? It felt so dry and cakey for no reason, like they were trying to cover up signs of aging but they just made it look worse. Zeta-Jones can and has served so much harder. Them's my two cents.

People crushing on someone and seeing signals that aren't there isn't unusual, but she genuinely never gives them any signs that she's into them before she starts seeing Tyler. Anything remotely close to a sign from her felt more like her manipulating them to get what she wanted than any hint at genuine interest.

He was evil! Him liking Wednesday was all about the blood part of the ritual to revive Crackerjack or whatever. What they had was not genuine, so it didn't really bother me that he was able to manipulate her into liking him back. He even forced them to have a date, speaking over her as she was trying to express she wasn't fully committed to the possibility of them being an item.
The kiss was also... Plot related. She needed it for the vision, and it marked the END of their romance, rather than the start. Which was very unexpected and I found it even more rewarding.
And with Xavier, it felt organic enough to be believable. He made a whole painting of her, they believed each other past other's judgement and accusations (of course, she wrongfully got him arrested, but she was being manipulated by Tyler and Christina Ricci) and there was a platonic resolution. They didn't need to end up together, and they didn't. I hope season 2 keeps it that way.

i think the main problem i had with Wednesday’s character was that they leaned too much into the whole “girlboss” character with her being good at everything, her having a quip/snark for every answer, having two guys obsess over her, having powers. It’s interesting but it’s not Wednesday. What I enjoyed most about the older versions was Wednesday was just a weird girl with different interests, no powers, no superhuman talents, not a perfect person. She was only snarky when she needed to be, it wasn’t her whole personality. And she had a super healthy relationship with her parents which was cool because it was a subversion of the whole “angsty kid goes against her parents” genre we see time and time again. But they just removed all of that in this.
Also, People didn’t just not like her cause shes mysterious or their jealous cause she’s interesting- they hated her, wanted her gone, eliminated, and/or her personality eradicated. Her fighting against those normative ideals being her campy self is what made her so endearing.
A lot of the characters i feel were a little too off from what I feel what made them so interesting in the first place.

I enjoyed the show for the most part, but once again film/tv writers prove that they just can’t write outcasts. Wednesday is “antisocial, morbid and fascinated with the grotesque, an outcast among outcasts”. And yet she’s insanely popular. Everyone knows who she is. People are fascinated by her, drawn to her. She has two love interests despite being aloof and unfriendly, one of which is the ex boyfriend of the most popular girl in school. People want to know her and be her friend even though she pushes them away constantly. She “accidentally” attends the big social event thanks to Thing’s machinations, and of course everyone wows over her dress and kooky dancing. As the series went on, I realised she reminded me of a PG friendly version of Effy Stonem from Skins - a loner, a bit odd and wild, but people think she’s mysterious and hot so they’re still drawn to her. Even Enid is basically Pandora.
Wednesday is an outlier, sure. An outcast? No. No one treats her as less than equal. No one avoids her. Christina Ricci’s Wednesday was more convincingly despised and looked down upon by her peers. It didn’t make her any less awesome. I wish Hollywood writers could figure out how to make an actual outcast character and still make them likeable and relatable.

something that irked me to my very soul in the series was how they tried to create tension between wednesday and her family when literally the whole point of the addams family is that they are a satire of the conventional nuclear family who kind of fake loves each other, so the addams family truly loves each other but it just appears in generally unconventional ways. i feel like its just such a betrayal of the characters and idk what’s worse if they didn’t know or just didn’t care, either way it’s simply tragic and i hope the writers get help soon

Although the writers probably never intended this, but if Wednesday is ace, then I imagine her disdain for her mother stems from that. She rejects the overt displays of affection and romantic interests consistently throughout the season, even telling her parents to knock it off in the car. She's not comfortable with that stuff but everyone continues to push it onto her. As she said, she's not interested in being a housewife. If Wednesday is ace, then her mother is the romantic foil she's bound to butt heads with.

Another thing that upset me (that I’ve heard a lot of people mention) is Wednesday’s disdain towards her mother. I understand that teen girls often have problems with their parents but like…the whole point of the Addams family is that they subvert the nuclear family with their unapologetic bond and love for one another.
The whole “I don’t want to be like my mom” thing was so bizarre. We don’t see any indication that Morticia is trying to push that so it’s fully fueled by some delusion by Wednesday that makes no sense. The show also tries to portray Wednesday as a feminist but just uses feminist buzzwords in the dialogue and then has Wednesday act with a lot of internalized misogyny to propel herself as “better” than the other female characters. Like when she called her black, frilly lace, turtle-necked dress for the Rave’n as catering to the male gaze-what the fuck??
I can’t imagine a world in which Wednesday thinks that being a homemaker is a bad thing when she has been raised by Gomez and Morticia. Like the Addams family is a matriarchal family, Morticia runs everything and has Gomez wrapped around her finger, she is in total control. I think I could forgive it more if we saw her actually grow and change. I know we get that tiny bit when we see Morticia threaten the mayor and Wednesday starts to see that there are different ways to be strong, but then they blatantly missed the opportunity for more growth when Wednesday watched Legally Blonde!!! Like it would have been such a good moment for Wednesday to further realize that feminine=\=bad, but they glossed over it.
It’s so clear that the tv show went for the aesthetics of the Addams family without actually engaging with it. Wednesday is purely “not like other girls” from an aesthetic point of view, not a moral one. She hates the blonde (Amanda I think?) in the movie because she’s an elitist bitch, and is very closed minded, not because she’s a blonde girl who wears pink. The Addams family is an extremely open-minded family, so for Wednesday to have an opposite mindset in the tv show is crazy.
It shows that the tv show wants to get “girlboss” points but not actually try to grow through its characters and I think that’s a very harmful narrative for young girls.

The TV series and movies implied that the Addams did a lot of horrible things and enjoyed horrible things, but since it was a comedy, we laughed it off. Also, it wasn't the main focus. There has always been a stark contrast between the dark and "wrong" yet loving and supportive Addams family and the supposedly "normal" families that were "normal" to the point of creepiness and only cared about looking good in society's eyes, not about their children's well-being. Morticia is supposed to be this dark, vampire-like lady that is both alluring and creepy, the 91's version of her was perfect to show that, meanwhile the the new one looks like a halloween costume with no effort. Her personality is so different as well, she was always a supportive mother, sure she liked the more dark gothic asthetic for her family but she wouldnt force any of her kids to be like that, if Wednesday said she wanted to be a pastel lolita type girl, she wouldnt be personally fond of it, but would still let her kid be herself as long as it made her happy. I think it was a bit of taking the black sheep of the family thing to the extreme...like as if everyone has always become doctors and Enid was on her way to become an artist. Like the mother needed her to follow in a avg/normal werewolf's footsteps. And since she wasn't on track the family was going to force it which is where the camp comes in to get the results that the family wanted for Enid instead of Enid being allowed to walk her own path. Our irl conversion therapy camps are insidious thinking they can change someone into what they're not but Enid's wolfing out camp version of such a thing was to bring out what Enid truly was..which is undesirable for Enid herself but yes not completely right to be compared although the writers rlly made it feel like it was a direct equivalent. As werewolves I can see why from Enid's perspective "pack mentality" is toxic since she is unable to fit in to that mold, especially given that she was put together with a gorgon instead of another wolf (like what..it also woulda been wild if her fling with the mayor's son had worked out🤡). The fact that she wolfed out (love how there was no explanation on the fact that it was during a blood moon of all things 😀) just seemed like a necessity for the plot since she was the only "monster" strong enough to fight Tyler's Hyde...cuz like Wed. was a goner for sure which tbh makes me think of the ppl that were/weren't killed off 🤔

What irked me about Weems is how she was actually completely unthreatening - when she told Wednesday she would never escape the therapist I was expecting to see some display of power or skill that would explain why she is the principal of this weird school, but she was just chatting away on the phone not even paying attention. Think about My Hero Academia: the principal is a mouse and gives the impression he isn't a threat, until you see him in action, then he becomes terrifying. I think it would have been better if Wednesdays' struggle with Nevermore should have been that she's normal in the context of a spooky monster school. Like, she tries to scare away fellow students away by discussing her macabre hobbies, and is utterly unprepared when they reveal that they share those hobbies and are excited to talk with her about them. That would have made things much funnier and also more emotionally resonant. I know I have struggled making friends as a teenager even when I shared interests with people.
Also the main reason that the love interests do not work in this show is that they are not camp enough. I can't imagine them having funny interacts with the rest of the Addams family which means that it's obvious to me that they don't stand a chance of dating Wednesday.
Xavier should have been more of a peacock and a drama queen, have him be a tortured artist who monologues about either his genius or worthlessness depending on the mood. Which would make him funny in contrast with Wednesday's deadpan personality. I would also have Wednesday give brutal but constructive criticisms to his artwork, and have him spend a large part of the series trying to create a work that fits her exacting standards. The reason Xavier would be attracted to Wednesday is that she challenges him to do better, and the reason why Wednesday would be attracted to Xavier is that he's really fun to torment (and coincidentally appreciates being tormented).
Tyler should have had more Connecticut Clark energy. He should have seemingly been the most "normal normie" out there, almost uncomfortably plain and normal. This would thematically play very well with him being a Hyde because the original Jekyll and Hyde is a story about a man denying all the gross and uncomfortable parts of himself and hiding behind the mask of respectability. Wednesday would be interested in dating partially to Not Be Like Her Mom, as she sees Xavier as too similar to her Father. Writing Tyler in a way that he has chemistry with Wednesday beyond saying "do the Connecticut Clark meme" is actually hard, I'm drawing a blank on what the emotional draw of the pairing would be as a potential relationship.

    • @haveagoodmourning
      @haveagoodmourning Год назад +38

I think it would be neat to rework Tyler into a (supposedly) sincere and earnest and open character, not to the extent of Enid but still contrasting with Wednesday's more private nature.
I think the writers wanted a "bad boy"/"boy next door" type love triangle but it never really hit, and I think pushing Tyler's more good traits would make the Hyde arc hit harder as well.

The movies were just so iconic that I thought the writers would atleast take notes from it. The light focusing on Morticia's eyes, the brother/sister dynamic between Wednesday and Pugsley, and notice how there were almost no fights between the family since they're so understanding of each other. Like Morticia literally finds out her two children is trying to kill their baby brother but she just assured them that no one was getting replaced. Where was that family dynamic in the series?
The love interests are killing me too. There was little to no chemistry and both boys are too dramatic for my liking. I thought we would get someone like Joel from Addams Family Values. However, the plot that surrounds Wednesday makes it feel like a y/n story. The unnecessary love triangle(which I believe Jenna herself said she didn’t like or something along those lines), the upbeat best friend that explains what the setting/event is to the main character(which is a way to explain the meaning of what happens in the plot to the audience), the classic party that happens every.single. Time. The “mean” popular girl that actually has something going on behind the scenes. Bringing it back to the boys, they really didn’t add anything to the story. I like Wednesday in moderation, which is why I liked Christina Ricci's Wednesday because she was a side character. Having her as the main character of an entire series felt overwhelming because honestly she's a very mean person and her constant snarky one-liners, while being true to her character, do become exhausting. And her meanness occasionally reminds me of some of the most arrogant and toxic people I've met so sometimes it's hard to root for her because I feel like I'm rooting for those people who made moments of my life miserable. Worse, I don't like that some of the people around me are trying to copy her attitude as if being mean is cool now. Wednesday has great qualities but it's sad that there are people who think her rudeness or meanness are the most aspirational.

I specifically remember a scene where Morticia tells the mayor, a black man, that he doesn't know what it feels like the not be believed, when historically this did and does happen to black people. A lot of the reason Dahamer killed as many people as he did is because the authorities didn't believe the people of colour that reported him.

One issue I had w the series was the incredibly strange choice to send Wednesday to therapy. In the real world therapy is great and often necessary, but if you send Wednesday Addams to therapy, you’re telling the audience that there is a distinct possibility that her unique behavior and mannerisms are a result of serious mental illness and trauma. And then suddenly the whole concept starts to fall apart. Her spookiness is no longer fun or quirky if it’s something that is making her life miserable.

The only good thing in Wednesday was Jenna Ortega :// I think Wednesday Addams wouldn't solve all these murders and she probably wouldn't care about the boys. If they want to put love interest they need to base it on Joel from Addams Family Values (1993), but instead they did this love triangle that doesn't even make sense. I'm very disappointed in Addams Family representation, they also missed the whole point that Gomez and Morticia are good parents, they love their children and really care about them. Netflix ruined Morticia and added "family issues" just for money. The only "Addams" in this show was just the main character's surname. :/

    My issues with the show:
1- Addams Family is filled with strange people. Type of people that society never accepts. But their family dinamic is what should society obey. They love every member of family they are respectful. They always support their children and never forces them to do things they dont want to. So originally Morticia would be like "So my daughter doesnt wants to go to school. Its ok she can get education at home." For example in The Addams Family Values childrens wants to go to the summer camp. Gomez and Morticia finds it weird but they let them go.
But in this adaptation relationship between Morticia and Wednesday is terribly written.
2- They made my boi Pugsley dirty. He isnt a poor boy who gets bullied. Cant live without his protective big sissy. NO! THATS NOT PUGSLEY! Pugsley is an Addams too. He is as cruel as rest of the family. Also he lives under same roof with Wednesday. Ten times worse than bullies. So he should know how to escape from a locker. Before Wednesday put piranas in pool he would bomb the bullies.
3- Love Triangle. No need to talk about it. İt was unnecesarry.
4- Why Addams Family feels guilty for killing a person? Killing is their normal.
5- Poor CGI. Everytime monster appears i laughed like "look at this dude" man. İs this supposed to be scary. Like monster chokes Wednesday and i laugh like tomorrow doesnt exists.
Although series has a lot of issues i still like show. Cuz we got Enid, Bianca(i love her so much i can write an essay about her), Marilyn(Christina Ricci) and a lot of Addams Family and Literature references(Jekyll was my first literature crush) you can feel amount of the effort they put in this show. I think that Wednesday having troubles with Morticia was so stupid because 1) of the whole "the Addams are the reverse of normal families which hate each other" thing you said and 2) IT DIDNT MAKE ANY SENSE! Because Wednesday was constanly "Mother youre trying to turn me into you" or "My parents sent Thing to spy on me" when Morticia never intended any of that. Like if they wanted to have her turn Wednesday in a version of her they should have shown her how for example, she makes Wednesday sign up for the fencing club (in the show she was more like "hey there's this fencing club I used to be a part of, how cool" and not "Wednesday you must be a team captain") and it didn't feel like Wednesday was living in her parents shadows because literally no one referenced them because only the principal knows them and she doesn't care if Wednesday is in their shadow. So the whole conflict was so pointless. They literally made Morticia look up for her daughter and Wednesday having teen angst or whatever, which is not the point of the Addams family.

He seemed so entitled to her so quickly out of nowhere, it was weird. Its even worse that now the show is viral and even surpass stranger things’ ratings. I find it really forgettable and wish it never exist but now many ppl will remember the addams family as they r portrayed in this netflix version. I can only hope that ppl will watch the cartoon, the 90s and other versions of the addams family and realize how great they actually r and the differences between the netflix one and the og.

Something that always bugs me is how cringy the bullies bully like... life isn't a Disney Show. Makes me wonder if the scriptwriters ever been to school lmao

Right. If the bullying were kept more realistic it could be darker, maybe fitting better with the vibe of the show. But then those characters couldn't get any redemption since we'd already dislike them for being cruel. They probably needed to keep it light enough for that reason

As a fan of the '64 show, I agree that it was a little too clean cut, but it held a power that recent versions seem to miss: The Addams family are actively trying to be good people in their own way!
There's an episode where a couple robbers start looting the house and Gomez, ever the host, offers them more. Or when the new neighbors are scared of them ad claim they have to move for work, so Gomez buys the company so they can stay. Even the way they get a psychiatrist for Pugsley instead of blaming him. They're always talking about being tolerant of their "Strange" (aka conformist) neighbors, and trying to understand their lifestyles

Can't agree with you more! What vowed me about this series was how much they adored, supported and respected each other, and how welcoming they were to people. And yes, the episode with Pugsley going all boy scout illustrated so well how much Gomez and Morticia were willing to work to accept their children and make them comfortable. I wish more shows had similar family dynamics!

I think their charm was always to be extremely well functioning family but in the weirdest of ways and with a dark twist. I was baffled when in the series Wednesday was so upset about a serial murderer monster, like shouldn't that be her absolute favourite thing? Didn't she legit attempt a murder in the very first episode?

This sould have been called "Nevermore Academy", a light teen supernatural show, not too deep but entertaining. And it looks very pretty!
They all feel like playing outcast dress-up rather than being it. It's a shame it's tied to the Addams both because they don't have the same values (they welcomed everyone, never truly seeing others as outcasts, just different; supportive, smart, empathetic) and because these 2022 characters are now limited by their legacy. Loved the cast, not the characters.

My husband laughed when i said it was "unrealisitic". But as a card carrying spooky myself, the fact that they made a point to make her the uber weirdo at the boarding school full of outcasts just made me meh about the whole thing.

I feel like it's a decent teen show, but it shouldn't have been named after Wednesday or have anything in common with the Addams family. It should've have been an unique mistery-teen show, but probably they knew it wouldn't have gotten so much attention that way. I think they had the idea of the show, scripted it, put some references about the Addams and call it a day.

What happens is that if they didn't add the Addams Family in the middle, the series wouldn't have had half the audience it had. What really sells here is that it's Wednesday from the Addams Family. So I understand why they did it, even if I don't share it.

I am Mexican and I always liked that it was never really specified the ethnicity of the Addams family. It always felt to me like a mixture of Spanish, Italian, and Eastern Europe.I liked the ambiguity. Besides Gomez is a lastname. The fact that they chose it as first name wouldn´t necessarily mean that they are Latinos. Maybe that´s why I never thought of them as such.

I always thought of the Addams as sort of "beyond human". Not tied down by centuries of societal expectations thier family accepts whoever wishes to join, nationality or paranormal behavior not being factors.
They're magical while still being undoubtedly human. Most of the time.

One thing that annoyed the hell out of me was that originally, the whole concept of the addams family was that despite their morbid behaviour and outlook on life, they were a loving family. Netflix destroyed this in episode 1, why did Wednesday hate morticia so much? Not to mention the stereotypical incredibly annoying american sitcom portrayal of high school. Drove me up the wall. Either make it completely cheery, or make it incredibly morbid. Don't sit on the fence
