- In this video, I will show you how simple it is to replace the winch on your boat trailer. This can be done in about 5 to 10 minutes of time and with only a few tools.
Replacing a defective trailer winch will help prevent accidents while transporting, loading, and unloading your boat.

would you recommend unhooking the strap from the boat thus releasing any possible tension from the strap before you remove the bolts?

Would you be able to mount this in the bed of the truck and use it to lift semi tires into the bed?
You probably could, but there are better options for that. A friend of mine used to have a lifting winch in the back of his truck bed that had a swing arm and a similar winch.

Mine doesnt have to bolt across and its not included but it has a really small thing

My winch works but the part that locks it in place doesn't work anymore I bought a $30 one off amazon to replace the whole unit I woukd like to repair the existing but it doesn't seem like it repairable .
joe smith once those locking cams start acting up I get nervous about the winch in general. That's why I replaced this one when I bought that boat.

On some you can, on others you can't. In this particular case the old winch was unreliable.

Renee Kellow the trailer was kept level and the bunk boards were dry. The boat wasn't going anywhere even with the winch clip removed.

Renee Kellow lower the tongue down a little so that the boat is sitting slightly nose down. It will stay on.
If you're worried about it though, you can go to the lake. It doesn't take long to replace the winch.
