Working Full Time And Running A Business | BPerryFilms Podcast

On Episode 51 Of BPerryFilms Podcast, I'm inviting you, my extended family, to join me in a casual conversation. I'll be sharing my journey of balancing a full-time job and a business, a challenge many of us face. Whether you've been with me from the start or you're just discovering my content, I want to connect with you and share some of the highs and lows of my journey.
I decided six months ago that I would take on a full-time job for financial security and help me to reach my goals faster. I know that many college graduates like myself find it hard to find employment immediately and keep running into the barrier of needing more experience in the workplace and not being seasonedly aged. Just imagine being like myself, owing 100K in student loans after completing my Masters's program. It’s funny that people emphasize that we should attend college and say it could open many doors for us once we leave. College gives us a dose of becoming independent from our parents and a sense of community, and it exposes us to different majors and minors that we find interesting. But often, we find ourselves lost in the fast life once we leave. We did not have access to the resources that we were accustomed to for all the years we spent pursuing our education.
I took a leap of faith and started my business, BPerryFilms, which I had brainstormed when I was 16 years old, writing my first business plan. I launched BPerryFilms as the first identity-blind company that helps promote creators and CEOs from different industries to share their stories through film, allowing them to narrate them. BPerryFilms is a personal brand turned into a business. I remember back in 2014-2016, I was working on one of my most significant projects, which was a documentary of my grandmother’s documentary “1921”. On June 7th 2021, I brought that business plan to life and created BPerryFilms as an Arts & Media Marketing Production company specializing in Film through the Educational niche. I got the opportunity to work with brands such as Quickbooks, WeWork, Thinkific, Dean College, Boston Arts Academy, and more. Starting a business begins with writing things down and revising them with time.
Running this company for nearly three years has opened my eyes to realizing that in order for me to perform at this high level, I need more income and stability. There were many times when I thought having a full-time job would cut into everything that I was working towards and slow down my pace. But I learned a key lesson: “Adaptability.” Ever heard of the phrases “Work Smarter, Not Harder” and how “Make The Money Work For You.” I learned that adaptability is crucial in learning to focus my energy on one task. I created a schedule for myself that could ease the stress but with a bit of sacrifice. I make time to outline, create, and post my content for my business, and then when it is time to go to my full-time, I focus on how I can elevate myself to a higher position.
You won’t believe it, but after five months of working full-time, I got a promotion with a higher salary and benefits. Now, I have more to fund my business, am able to pay my bills, and have enough to save and invest in my future wealth.
