Today my 2v2 turned into a free-for-all on Command and Conquer Red Alert 2. I try to make a comeback and then play a 1v1 rematch on Command and Conquer. Be sure to subscribe for more Command & Conquer content!
Want to play online for free? Check out CNCNET.ORG
I just rung the bell so I don't miss notifications. Thanks for telling me didn't know about it. Btw keep up the great work.
Holy shit! I knew that was you (I was green). I was so focused on getting my jets that I didn't build right and was hoping my ally would help out. I quit because I was so ashamed and just wanted to watch you play.
I've definitely learned a lot though from watching your videos. Keep up the solid content
Loved that chrono legionnaire strat :P
1:00 I notice many players, even professionals like you, make the mistake of building near oil derricks. When those things explode, the AoE blast is strong enough to destroy most buildings.
It can't really be helped sometimes if you go for an optimal base build, I presume he built is Airfield and War Factory towards the Oil Derricks because of the extra travel time to get them.
GG man, when you have such awesome strats quality of video is not an issue. Peace!
That was still really awesome to watch the Chrono Legionnaire assault. Thanks for the content!
Seeing how in most of your games after ahort while you mined all ore and then have money problems, going for the industrial plant should be more important than a temporary power shortage. The sooner you get the industrial plant the more money you gain from the remaining ore thats left on the map.
Learning a lot from you man. Thanks!
Really like the zooming in on key things touch you add
Allied anti-air is lackluster compared to the other 2 races. It doesn't help that Guardian GIs are weak against Rocketeers. For light vehicles, IFVs are weaker than Flak Tracks and Gattling Cannons against air. For turrets, Patriot missiles are worse than Flak Cannons and Gattling Tanks in Bunkers. For naval AA, the Aegis Cruiser is slow, can't attack ground, and doesn't splash (worse against rocketeers).
Going for a fast Industrial Plant is akin to fast teching. You are making yourself vulnerable earlier in the game in order to benefit on the long run, provided the investment pays for itself before getting destroyed. The window which you are vulnerable is pretty short, so as long as you can protect your Industrial Plant it worth fast building in the vast majority of scenarios. Also depends on if you have plenty of cash or if you are scraping by. If the latter holds true, then slower production for reduced cost is obviously better.
"ring my bell" sounds so dirty
That Man Melvin lol
It actually is, it's a Donna Summer song
pleasure as always to watch
I dont know why I was unsuscribed... Already did it again. As ever, amazing video Bryan!
Another one to watch, yay!
Yeah I love that Legionaire stuff too - gg at the end.
I loved how you explained you tactic in detail in the second video, can we maybe see a little more of that? ~
At this point, I'm just rewatching now. =))) I may or may not have watched all your C&C gameplay on this channel. 👀
Just in time for something to watch during Lunch :D
first time have seen chronos work so good! nice game!
You're right about the industrial plant as long as you immediately get the nuke plant up
Quality didn't bother me - excellent final game. I liked how lax you were even though he charged you early with 5 tanks.
13:00 To answer your question about the industrial plant, if you don't need to pump out tanks as fast as possible you can go for the plant.
You were holding him back with just the tanks you already had at your disposal so going for plant was a good decision.
I'm just a noob but that's my take on it.
What are your thoughts on generals? Imo a little more free in terms of strategies, although this one has some neat ones like in this video.
Also, gz on that 10k, dayuum!
Yeah it's definitely a bit slower, but yeah I see where you're coming from, I personally can't get used to ra2 anymore lately
How do you aprove/cancel out waypoint path function so fast, whats the shortkey?
Damn, that's a smart way to use Chrono legionaries
I keep comming back, I do find your videos quite good to watch.
Though I have noticed a thing I tend to do, which others don't. I tend to make a lot of defenses and aa defenses around the oil rigs, or any type of static income.
I know it may seem like a waste, but at times, it has saved my economy, as it has either halted, or slowed down the destruction, causing so I get enough time to respond to the attack.
Also I do wonder, why so few people go with no AA at all, even after a bombing run has been done. It is like people ignore them on purpose XD
its worth it to go for the nuclear plant if you sell all but 1 tesla reactor right after, gives you a very small cash boost that should make power > industrial plant more viable by a hair
Nice game!
Awesome games :)
why do you not record with OBS? or does it not like CNC
Never knew the potential of Legionaires for online matches until i saw his vid. wow i thought they were jsut expensive yet hard to use units.
Best idea is to buy nuclear plant first, then sell the other plants and buy the industrial factory.
You are very good as Soviet on the last game
I want to see more Yuri gameplay, i enjoy it. Keep up the good content
Just an idea , try intead of 2 energy beacon, build a 3th one and THEN the industrial plant that way you do not run out of low power
I'm watching this channel since 2k subs. I've got a question, how could you run ra2 in 1920x1080 ?
Aeran yes you can
Bryan how'd you get a prism tank without a battle lab? Crates?
crates
do you think that the faster build times of the Industrial Plant can counter the low power slow down? It would be worth it if that was the case! :)
If you decrease by 50% then increase by 50% that doesn't bring you back to where you started. 50% increase from 50% is only 1.5*50%=75%.
Ofcourse it is multiplicative, that is just how percentages work. Else that 50% increase wouldn't be 50%.
Yes, becouse 10*1.50 is simply how you calculated the 10+50%=15. If could be 50% of the original, but then it isn't a 50% increase. It is a constant increase that happens to be set to 50% of the orignal speed. Not the same, but basically in this case acts the same except for this frindge case that we are trying to figure out.
Bryan, do you edit the soundtrack into the match? Or is it in the game?
Ok thank you for the reply, how do you get the Red Alert 2 soundtrack? I only have the Yuri's Revenge soundtrack.
maybe add some .mp3's in the sound files of yuri's revenge. google it
Something I realized just a moment ago is that I had been using conscripts as scouts all along instead of dogs.
Theoretically you could get twice as many in the same time/cost and fan them out all over the map, but is there any advantage to this or is it just a terrible habit?
Miss Lethal it is faster and a single conscript bad at countering dog
Really thinking about it, I think I picked up the habit from C&C3, kill engies, occupy a few buildings for map control.
Kind of forgot about dogs when I transitioned back to RA2, haha.
Not quite pro play :D but still fun. Like in a horror movie: "NO! Don't go there! Don't do that" etc.
yeah i do the same thing, take the power hit for the reduced price
I dont understand when they are attacking your naval yard and dont have nothibg to defend it why not sell it rather than it being destroyed?
have you checked ur cncnet pms? :) hmm bryan?
Before you start school please do a Malaboo dog death/RREEEEEE/rant compilation video!
Daniel McEnrue w
Find out what Mike was laughing about :D No oppinion from me on industrial plant as I am not as much in this game, especially online, but fun video, again, that made my day and I think thats also something you like to see at the end of the day.
if your floating resources like you were better to spend faster w a nuc power plant imo
I must fucking study but i cant stop watching. Fuck
Ring the bell.....run away! D; ;D
What happened at 0:58? Is the Oil Derrick explosion ratio THAT big?
The first oil derrick detonated the 2nd oil derrick and the combined explosion took out everything. Personally, I don't think they should do enough damage to blow nearby oil derricks if the aren't touching each other. Oil derricks 1 square apart should do something like 90% damage to the other.
I had no idea what oil derricks dealt damage to nearby structures on destruction. Do they damage units too?
Yep! They're basically a Libyan demolition truck without the glow, though I'm not sure if the damage is the same. I think it's slightly less.
gg
Just rewatched this one. If I am not mistaken, your opponent was also the one who cried that you and Mike are cheating for using Robo Tanks on the same map.
you stay with low power only for a vert short time, so I guess unless there's a a shit ton incoming, its the better choice
play some more yuri bruh
This. My nostalgia is an itch I cant scratch, only your videos help relieve it.
What part of nostalgia do you think implies I don't already own it? I'll wait for OpenRA to support it, though; the original engine's a bit too clunky for me.
Bryan "Napoleon" Vahey
Here's a challenge for you, kill your opponent with only defensive buildings...
yes?
did his opponent not explore with dogs on the rematch?
He did, saw a brown dog near Bryan's base
I really hate Tsunami FFA, no SW with crates on. It's such a turtly game, but everyone loves playing it...
1:00 why didn't you send these right away? you knew he was going for it.
Bryan Vahey oh
Couldn't he have just built aircraft carriers instead of battle fortresses and denied you eco? Seems like after he got your derricks he just sat back and watched you build up. Maybe he was distracted with taking over green's area. ;p
He went after me first with rocketeers
oh were you korea?
yes. i wanted to try out a jet rush. it failed miserably then he took me out
Why does nobody play with Yuri?
Nobody plays Yuri because, compared to the other two factions, it's op. Just about any game with Yuri in it, people will team up to take them out first. Yuri has everything from a heavy anti-air/ground defense, to strong psychic tech which can counter rushes and defense. IFV spam to counter air units can be turned against you with a mastermind/magnatron rush. Not to mention the Floating discs being somewhat tanky and quite strong. That's why Yuri isn't used, if it isn't banned, that is.
Legacy Ninja thank you man, i appreciate the feedback.
I havent played RA2 since 2004 so i didnt have the foggiest idea why it was aways Allied V Soviet.
wait - so the disconnecting player didn't even take his oils?
Wow.
Maybe he had "real" dc :D .
So you are going to be a doctor? What are your future plans if you care to share, you can of course deny this info, seeing as it might be a little too personal.
careful about radiology, you don,t want to turn into one of those crazy desolator :P
More seriously, I which you good luck man :)
Thanks, good luck
pls become a desolator
+TWIRKNOLOVE SPREAD THA DOOM
He missed so many crates
it isnt worth it to go low power just build the power plant then the indust + as a soviet if u rly wanna be aggressive u should go for double wf make it like 6 wf or something he's the one that should tech not u lol GG
GG play against me sometime best of 3
Hey man, just pldged 2$ on Patreon to make up for my adblocker, hope it helps :)
As a complete noob who loves RA2 but has never played competetively, I was curious for a pro's opinion on why more of a turtle approach with lots of static defenses and walls never seems to be used ever, by anyone. Is it frowned upon or considered to be lame? I personally always liked to set up a defense before attacking when I played this game back in the day, so I was just curious. Keep up the great work! :)
Oh, real quick, a suggestion for you. I use OBS when recording my videos, never had any problems whatsoever with older games, you might want to look into it. It might even work with your disc copy of the game :)
Elite KryPtik answer to you question the reason why base defences aren't used so heavily except generally anti air and pillbox/sentry rush defence (grand cannons are a different story) is because they are very expensive 1500 for prism/tesla but have obvious weaknesses like power are outranged by common units like prism tanks. But the main reason is you can't win with just base defences (except cannon walking) better to have mobile units which can defend when needed and attack when needed, how you gonna kill your opponent when you blew all your money on static defence?
Because static defense is a money sink and it can be relatively easy bypassed and in return you won't have good enough offense to win. It's not lame, it just isn't effective most of times.
I was mainly thinking in terms of choke point entrances, even then it seems like it isn't used much if at all, but what you said makes sense as well, especially considering the limited amount of money in CnC. Thanks for the reply :)
Your average not comeback?
bring back the malaboo.................... I missed him
HD SM ah fucking shit dude, those guys are bunch of fucking pussies man.
There. Now it's more than enough, to keep you intoxicated for bout 5 years.
Bryan, watching this in bed beside my wife just commentating and going nuts and she's just not into it haha. Dusty plays man, GG.
Why so many people hate SW? I think SWs make Red Alert what it is!
Industrial Plant didn't change much either way IMO, he should've attacked you earlier, before you had any tanks. I guess he didn't scout you properly or he didn't pay enough attention, but if he went in earlier he might've gotten some of your miners or even a factory.
idk why he waited, you matched him in tanks before he decided to do anything
also he paid too much attention to microing his tanks and his base build was really puny compared to yours
bryan do yuri
Love your RA2 series, but the sound effect of the game is too low though.
Almost can not hear the game sound even with headphone and double system volume settings.
Just some personal opinion, don't know the other people agree or not.
You lose 50% of your production when you go into low power. So going into low power at any point is really never worth it IMO, even for 25% cost reduction. It also takes much much longer to build a Power Plant when in low power after you build something then to build the Power Plant before hand then build the thing you want to build. So it's very important that you never go into Low Power, ever, because it's completely avoidable and faster to just not go into low power in the first place. If you must go into Low Power to build that Industrial Plant, for whatever reason (There can be legitimate reasons for it probably), then build a Tesla Reactor after the Plant. Because that will still put you in green, albeit just barely, then you can build a nuke afterwords then sell Tesla Reactors. Would be much, much faster than building a Nuke after the Plant. Although building a Reactor or Nuke before the Plant would still be faster no-doubt. :^)
I don't understand why people play with Super Weapons off. It can easily break a stalemate or stop people from turtling or sitting in their base for too long and that makes the game much more balanced and fair in my opinion. Turtles should not be rewarded for turtling, it's boring, obnoxious, and ruins the fun for everyone else.
Are you sure it's 50%? I know MO cuts it to 50% but I heard it was more punishing than the original RA2
MinLowPowerProductionSpeed=.5 ; minimum production speed as result of low power (def=.5) ;gs applies after modifer below
MaxLowPowerProductionSpeed=.8 ; and since most of the time you will be short by only 10 or 20, this is the maximum speed you can build if you have low power (so 99% power is treated as this %)
LowPowerPenaltyModifier=1 ;gs "double penalty" or "half penalty". multiply this by the power short to get the actual penalty ( def=1. 2 means 30% short = 60% penalty, .5 would mean 15% penalty.)
Actually as far as I can tell it looks like your production speed is scaled by how much power you're missing. So we take how much power you're missing and multiply it by the PenaltyModifier and it's capped at low 50% and high 80% (Meaning at max you'll always lose at least 20% of your speed but you'll never lose more than 50%). So you can have as low as 50% and as high as 80% depending on how much power you're actually missing. So while no matter what I think it is still faster to build a power plant before building the Industrial Plant, I think there is definitely wiggle room and scenarios where the loss in speed will be made up in the cost reduction.
In MO3.0 they probably just have the min and max both set to 0.5 so it is never lower or higher than 50% loss in production speed.
Either way it's probably better to make sure you never go into low power unless you've run the numbers or are experienced enough with the build order in question that would put you in low power.
Huh, that's interesting, never had the thought of the possibility that how much power got lost affects speed as well, but then again it also makes sense.
Thanks for the details
Depends on your income. If you are scraping by on credits, then faster production doesn't matter when there's insufficient cash flow to maintain production. And an extra power plant doesn't take much time to build.
It most-certainly takes longer to build an Industrial Plant than a Power Plant going into low power than a Power Plant and then an Industrial Plant without going into lower power. Not to mention that also slows down the build speed on your tanks, meaning while yes you're having cheaper tanks you're losing something like half of the advantage of the Industrial Plant - cheaper tanks means they build faster, too.
I'm definitely a newb, but two questions/observations:
1. After you build a nuke plant, why not sell the tesla reactor(s) for some cash? In this game it didn't matter, but in some games it does.
2. Your building placement doesn't seem robust to damage. In this game (and others) you built a lot of stuff next to oils -- the oils go "boom!" and so does a lot of your base. You frequently have your war factories next to each other, making it possible to take them all out with one attack. Sometimes buildings are more tightly packed than they need to be, which makes a Libya player happy.
Thanks a ton for posting the vids. Entertaining, and I've learned a lot.
Always keep 1 Tesla Reactor standing at all circumstances unless you don't have access to a Con Yard. If you don't have a Tesla Reactor left and you lose other important structures, you will have to rebuild a Tesla Reactor before you can build a different building.
only a blizzard fan boy would thumbs down
Read your facebook message :(
Maybe stop that clickbait, youre not gonna get that many people to watch this anyways since almost noone plays it and it feels really cheap.
Are you fucking stupid? Just look at his average views/video. He already has many people watching it. And you obviously don't know what a clickbait is
He just learned a new word and throws it around without a clue. Fuck this idiot, your titles are appropriate.
The title is in all caps, "UNCONVENTIONAL COMEBACK?" does not seem like like clickbait ?
...What?
I see the thumbnail, your titles are actually the ones that I am criticising here.
