I was consistently #37 in the world ladder for RA2. I played this instead of studying in college. Miraculously I still graduated. After I got established on this map I would cut off the Brutals from the center map using their own bridges with a tanya. Then i would get the derricks and rob them blind with the spies. Mirage tanks and prism tanks together were a pretty lethal combo. I miss this game. Thanks for giving me a little dose of nostalgia.
I can't believe I didn't know building additional war factories would reduce build times... Thanks. I found out that the "Infiltrate your own buildings" bug isn't possible in Yuri's Revenge though.
Dude, i'm not going to be an ass, but .. -You know the map by heart -Glitched your veteran tank units -Reloaded map several times to get your desired location I mean MORE than HALF of the fun of RA2 is dealing with shitty location starts and adapting to all. (And using all the units given to you and different tactics) this just takes the fun and challenge out of it. However, i did NOT know that building lots of war factories accelerated your tank build speed, that's pretty cool

+patrick susulin Nah, if you start with Allies, you can usually rush in and use the deployed infantry to kill off all of at least one opponents starting units, then capture the construction yard +/- other buildings. From then on it can be pretty simple. Or just play as Yuri :P

on a second thought... since the AI attacks the war factory with superweapons all you have to do is to place it far from your base but not that far or else you cant place it
I read it somewhere a long time ago, I tested it...and yeah AI attacks the war factory first. Same goes with Kirovs, they go to war factory first.. This is true in RA2 only, not in YR.
never knew about the spy+engineer exploit nice video. sometimes on other c&c games i like to play island type maps and slowly build up and launch a huge invasion against an entrenched AI
I was never much fan of Red Alert franchise, C&C Generals and Emperor: Battle for Dune is as close to this as it gets for me. But the music is awesome, you don't hear a lot of hard rock music in video games anymore.
I'm definitely biased because RA2 was one of the first games I fell in love with but yeah, I agree, music here is memorable. But not only music - voice acting (and well... just acting) while cheesy was still very enjoyable. Cutscenes from RA2 made me want to finish each mission as soon as possible to see and hear more :D. I definitely need to get back to this game.
Generals was not so much about the gameplay for me, but the atmosphere of the music and the thrown camera angles in story, it was pretty cool show-wise.
Nice video! But I have to say, that the Hard mode in RA2 was like easy mode on C&C Red Alert... Remember those days when you where playing RA and your computer was freezing for a split second, and then the whole game slowed down - and when looking at the map you could see the entire enemy base was slowly moving towards you...

MrHAMMUDE90 i did read the description , so this is only from my perspective . in real battle - what would preventing them from pulling all of there resources and launcher nuke at you enmass by sharing research project and resources -- if there is a function like that in this game or in imaginative game ? assume that is 7 brutal player against you , or also the enemies scientist also reconverting there technology in like 4 minute in the game -- ( since heavy tank in the game usually build in about 50 second -- yeah think about that , inreallife it month and month to build a abraham - well at least the resources here is gold and germ ) to creating hovertank and hover infantry to attack you. or using the rocket crusier to finish you off , also your victory is only guarante is because you exploited the way of setting up enemies -All 7 is soviet --(which , soviet is like a melee fighter faction in the game ) can you post a video like this but fighting against 7 allies , or 7 yuri , or combine force of the three? this is not a challenge just ask for something fun - because there must be a way to exploited the other enemy faction weakness -- for example the yuri would most likely spawn mutant - enought to freeze your computer , and allies would spawn laser tank including air fighter etc.... and throught the video - of how you outsmart the 7 soviet on brutal , i have to say , well sometime brawl but no brain is a no go . i guest the downplay to the game here is scripting and AI repetition stratergy and tactic.
I don't think you can do so much with the AI in a game that launched over a decade ago, can you? It was very limited from human resources to the resources available to have a better AI. I will have a better reply once i am done playing CS:GO with some friends. Have a nice day!

People saying that you have no skill? They're right. You play as france on campy map, using spy cheat, without superweapons and all that against ONLY soviet opponents. There is no skill at all, even 6 year old could do that. Try it on normal tournament ruleset on not camping map like this one and without cheats, then you MIGHT get my applause.
For everyone wanting to play the good old C&C games such as Red alert and Red alert 2. C&C colletion pack has compatibility with windows 8 and windows 10 and you can buy it insanely cheap. 1-3$£€ on G2A and Kinguin or about 5-8$£€ everywhere else.
Actually, I used this map against several brutal AI without destroying the bridge, but it took me long enough to survived the attacks of Apocalypse Tanks before attacking.
Demon Zangetsu I also had this habit of letting Chrono Legionnaires or better yet, Chrono Ivans finish off bases after I took their ConYard and wiped out most of their defenses
Out of curiosity, why are they not building dogs? Every time I played against Brutal, every single one would have a few dogs scattered around and most of my spies would get eaten. I'm not entirely sure this is the same version of the game I have. Won't let me build anything within 1 tile of gold drills and the enemies' bases are always massive 20 minutes in.
ZumboPrime Trust me, this is 7 brutal enemies. If i am not mistaken, this is the base version of the game, MAYBE including the first patch. I honestly don't know why not every enemy base had dogs. I agree that they usually have dogs, but you should also notice that brutal enemies always have 2 goldmine factories and the AI sends the dogs the only 1 of those factories. Some enemy bases were not big enough because of space, and some enemy bases i stole their money within the first 10 min or so.
I'm not questioning that it was Brutal. I probably just have a CD that contains the last patch ever made for it, which makes it a bit more difficult. Dogs errywhere, Con yard and Research Lab walled off, bases probably double or triple the size of the ones you fought, and they'd own all the land-based oil rigs after ~5 minutes.
My Uncle used to play this with 7 brutal enemies too, he did it with Korea though, and with allied and soviets too. Still this is one heck of a game though..
The Goatfather 2 Easily done and you move your fleet closer to there side and just keep destroying there shipyards the moment there build they can't get more if you do not give them the chance. But that's my opinion you spent a lot of time just building AA when with a few ships could of done the same. But that is not here nor the strategy worked int the video so its all fine.

No, that is called instant promotion for all soldiers and tanks (doing for barracks and the tank factory), that way, every soldier and tank comes out you see they are already a level higher than default. It's the same as you get a spy into an enemy`s barracks, except you do it on your own buildings, which do the same effect, though doing on enemies does not require damaging the building and repairing it. I only damage my building a little because i need the spy to go in and since it is my building, he will not go in unless an engineer is repairing it, so i send the spy behind the engineer to go in it with him. by the way, the spy MUST be behind the engineer for this work.
1. you should only destroy bridges connecting to the small islands, so will have the main island to yourself 2. I would airstrike the hell out of them for ez win (+ you can target superweapons easily) BTW, great video :)
At 3:26, he shows a spy impersonating an engineer, then having the engineer+spy sneak into his own War Factory. After that, his units are veterans? Is this the real behavior, or exploiting a fluke in the game?
+Gregory Eschbacher I did not let the spy impersonate the engineer. This bug/glitch was still in the game even after the patch, despite the developers knowing about it. There is also a glitch/bug in a certain version of the game where you could build ANYTHING ANYWHERE without even having a single building if your base there. like, you could build a cannon of the french army at the enemy base without having any other building of your base there, but the glitch did not work in my version. And the tanks are not instantly veterans by what i did, they are just 1 rank away from being veterans, as you can see.

So what is the actual move with the engineer+spy? Have them stand close to each other and set a rally point for the war factory? (And sorry if I used the wrong terms. I called 1 bar veterans, 3 bars Super Veterans). Also, you got super rich after just one spy infiltrated one oil refinery? You went from 1000 to 20k after that. Anything special there?
Gregory Eschbacher The trick is to have the spy BEHIND the engineer, as you can see in the video. just damage your building a little bit and produce an engineer and a spy, have the spy behind the engineer and set waypoint to an empty place where you know the spy would not get IN FRONT of the engineer, and let the 2nd waypoint be in the desired building (in my case, the war factory) and see the magic happen! Also, about the money, the enemies are on brutal difficulty, so they by default make more oil refinery buildings to make as much money as fast as possible. And, by the time my spy gets there, they would have a huge amount that my spy can steal, as you saw in the video. stealing their money will slow down the process of them making Kirov airships and will let me have enough money to make enough anti-air units to defend my base by the time they can afford some airships.
+Gregory Eschbacher when the waypoint has been set, the engineer can also be removed by selecting it and move it out of the waypoint, by hand. The spy will continue the waypoint. On this way, the engineer can be multiple used for self spy-ing other buildings like the battle lab, barrack or warfactory.

Estelle Bright I am using Windows 10, too. I can run the game just fine. I set the compatibility to windows xp and it works just fine. If you have black screen but sound is working, then you need to enter a custom resolution in the "RA2.ini" file in the game directory. There you can set the resolution you want and the game should work flawlessly.

Where is strategy? I see just a using bugs of AI and nothing more. I can not see any micro, I don't see any control. 7 brutal PC usually lose after 20 min... And play only vs 1 race is really simple.
Aye Tun u seem like u never played red alert. they ARE brutal but but he disabled the choice of super weapons. if they weren't each one would build 1 keerov instead of 3.
21boxhead I used to play vs Humans all the time at LAN parties back in 2004-2006. I don't bother with online play as there is just too much disconnecting issues.
Red Alert 2 wasn't even a challenging game imo, because at first few minutes of the game the enemy doesn't attack you, so gameplay was pretty boring and you could seal yourself off and get away with sneaking up to them to kill them. So all in all, I wouldn't brag about it too much, not to offend you or anything. But try Mental Omega 3.0, sir, and you'll find a better challenge.
BucketOf Hurt I may have not said every point of why RA2 wasn't as challenging, like there is less attacks coming at you or something like that, but you should still know that that was not the point of my argument. I'm saying that Mental Omega 3.0 is a much better choice at a real challenge than RA2, just because it has so much more.

There's more units for every side, 12 more missions for the Allies and the Soviets, even Epsilon, as Yuri's faction is now called has missions like YR didn't have. There's new maps and gamemodes on skirmish other than battle, like Fortress, etc. There's even more new stuff in the 2nd beta and a NEW faction in its development stages. It is clearly the most developed mod, and as a result the best mod/continuation of RA2YR. I really think you should dust off that old RA2 disk (and YR I think) because it brings back the old memories, but in a whole new light.
***** They will work! Just go into game files and look for "ra2.ini" and search for the resolution height and width and change them to the desired one and then right click on game icon and change compatibility to win xp sp3 and it should work like a charm!

This is MY startegy (Allied) Build Power Plant. While it is constructing, form hotkey for grizzly tanks (ctrl+1) bring G.I. in frontlines and lay tgem down (D) Press (Q) for readied building of Main Buildings (Power Plant) put it down contruct Ore Refinery, Barracks, Patriot Missile, War Factory, 5 Miners (or 3-4 depending on type of map), power plant, air force, more patriot missiles, (Infantry of G.I. and Guardians and dogs. If America just paratroopers and shit), I.C.V.'s. Remember to keep building power plants and patriot missiles since on Brutal there are early rushes of Harriers/Black Eagles, the I.C.V.'s are important to take out Kirov Airships at a fair distance before they actually reach you, using Rocketeers for this is risky because they require micromanging as a defense tactic. That's the first quarter. Next is the top tiered defense and offense: Battle Lab, Spy Sattelite, Spies and the Hawk (take war factory, Barracks, Ore Refinery. If their Battle Lab has walls just sacrifice a few Harriers) ore purifiers, about 16 Mirage Tanks for camping and defense, 15 Prism Tanks because they are not durablr and need the Veteran Rank for full damage. Bring 12 I.C.V's for any air units. Pretty much my strategy. You can early rush the spy for a quick rank up, but it might not work for Gold because they take 20% of the Gold the enemy has. I don't usually use Guardians because they are mostly good for land vehicles rather for Anti-air against Kirov's, and since the Mirage Tanks can do the land defence job it makes the Guardians a bit of a hassle to use (Unless the battle fortress is involved). Oh also I experimented that the enemy won't attack you the more buldings you have (not defence or infantry) I guess the A.I. targets the least of the threats

You still can play it, I use Origin, for pc games. You can buy the collection and red alert 2 is in this :)
Shift+click to train 5 units at a time. saves you a ton of clicking when training 30-40 units

I used to do RA2, 1 vs 7 Brutals and wiping them all out using just 9 apocalypse tanks.
Red Alert 1 was harder. I had to use 16 Mammoth tanks :p

MrHAMMUDE90 i did read the description , so this is only from my perspective . in real battle - what would preventing them from pulling all of there resources and launcher nuke at you enmass by sharing research project and resources -- if there is a function like that in this game or in imaginative game ? assume that is 7 brutal player against you , or also the enemies scientist also reconverting there technology in like 4 minute in the game -- ( since heavy tank in the game usually build in about 50 second -- yeah think about that , inreallife it month and month to build a abraham - well at least the resources here is gold and germ ) to creating hovertank and hover infantry to attack you.
or using the rocket crusier to finish you off , also your victory is only guarante is because you exploited the way of setting up enemies -All 7 is soviet --(which , soviet is like a melee fighter faction in the game )
can you post a video like this but fighting against 7 allies , or 7 yuri , or combine force of the three?
this is not a challenge just ask for something fun - because there must be a way to exploited the other enemy faction weakness -- for example the yuri would most likely spawn mutant - enought to freeze your computer , and allies would spawn laser tank including air fighter etc....
and throught the video - of how you outsmart the 7 soviet on brutal , i have to say , well sometime brawl but no brain is a no go .
i guest the downplay to the game here is scripting and AI repetition stratergy and tactic.
I don't think you can do so much with the AI in a game that launched over a decade ago, can you?
It was very limited from human resources to the resources available to have a better AI.

People saying that you have no skill? They're right. You play as france on campy map, using spy cheat, without superweapons and all that against ONLY soviet opponents. There is no skill at all, even 6 year old could do that. Try it on normal tournament ruleset on not camping map like this one and without cheats, then you MIGHT get my applause.

Actually, I used this map against several brutal AI without destroying the bridge, but it took me long enough to survived the attacks of Apocalypse Tanks before attacking.

Out of curiosity, why are they not building dogs? Every time I played against Brutal, every single one would have a few dogs scattered around and most of my spies would get eaten.
I'm not entirely sure this is the same version of the game I have. Won't let me build anything within 1 tile of gold drills and the enemies' bases are always massive 20 minutes in.
ZumboPrime Trust me, this is 7 brutal enemies. If i am not mistaken, this is the base version of the game, MAYBE including the first patch.
I honestly don't know why not every enemy base had dogs.
I agree that they usually have dogs, but you should also notice that brutal enemies always have 2 goldmine factories and the AI sends the dogs the only 1 of those factories.
Some enemy bases were not big enough because of space, and some enemy bases i stole their money within the first 10 min or so.
I'm not questioning that it was Brutal. I probably just have a CD that contains the last patch ever made for it, which makes it a bit more difficult. Dogs errywhere, Con yard and Research Lab walled off, bases probably double or triple the size of the ones you fought, and they'd own all the land-based oil rigs after ~5 minutes.

I found that battle tanks with 5 guardians inside was the best on this map for kirovs also the Aegis boats are the absolute best for anti aircraft
My Uncle used to play this with 7 brutal enemies too, he did it with Korea though, and with allied and soviets too. Still this is one heck of a game though..
The Allied cruisers are better for AA would not need half as many IFV's

But that's my opinion you spent a lot of time just building AA when with a few ships could of done the same.

what was that with the engineer and the spy? you take your own war factory and then spy on yourself?
No, that is called instant promotion for all soldiers and tanks (doing for barracks and the tank factory), that way, every soldier and tank comes out you see they are already a level higher than default.
It's the same as you get a spy into an enemy`s barracks, except you do it on your own buildings, which do the same effect, though doing on enemies does not require damaging the building and repairing it.
I only damage my building a little because i need the spy to go in and since it is my building, he will not go in unless an engineer is repairing it, so i send the spy behind the engineer to go in it with him.
by the way, the spy MUST be behind the engineer for this work.
1. you should only destroy bridges connecting to the small islands, so will have the main island to yourself
2. I would airstrike the hell out of them for ez win (+ you can target superweapons easily)

At 3:26, he shows a spy impersonating an engineer, then having the engineer+spy sneak into his own War Factory. After that, his units are veterans? Is this the real behavior, or exploiting a fluke in the game?
+Gregory Eschbacher I did not let the spy impersonate the engineer. This bug/glitch was still in the game even after the patch, despite the developers knowing about it. There is also a glitch/bug in a certain version of the game where you could build ANYTHING ANYWHERE without even having a single building if your base there. like, you could build a cannon of the french army at the enemy base without having any other building of your base there, but the glitch did not work in my version. And the tanks are not instantly veterans by what i did, they are just 1 rank away from being veterans, as you can see.

So what is the actual move with the engineer+spy? Have them stand close to each other and set a rally point for the war factory? (And sorry if I used the wrong terms. I called 1 bar veterans, 3 bars Super Veterans).
Also, you got super rich after just one spy infiltrated one oil refinery? You went from 1000 to 20k after that. Anything special there?
Gregory Eschbacher The trick is to have the spy BEHIND the engineer, as you can see in the video. just damage your building a little bit and produce an engineer and a spy, have the spy behind the engineer and set waypoint to an empty place where you know the spy would not get IN FRONT of the engineer, and let the 2nd waypoint be in the desired building (in my case, the war factory) and see the magic happen!
Also, about the money, the enemies are on brutal difficulty, so they by default make more oil refinery buildings to make as much money as fast as possible. And, by the time my spy gets there, they would have a huge amount that my spy can steal, as you saw in the video. stealing their money will slow down the process of them making Kirov airships and will let me have enough money to make enough anti-air units to defend my base by the time they can afford some airships.

+Gregory Eschbacher when the waypoint has been set, the engineer can also be removed by selecting it and move it out of the waypoint, by hand. The spy will continue the waypoint. On this way, the engineer can be multiple used for self spy-ing other buildings like the battle lab, barrack or warfactory.

Estelle Bright I am using Windows 10, too. I can run the game just fine. I set the compatibility to windows xp and it works just fine. If you have black screen but sound is working, then you need to enter a custom resolution in the "RA2.ini" file in the game directory. There you can set the resolution you want and the game should work flawlessly.
MrHAMMUDE90 Oh. Good hint. I will try your solution then. It's quite sad if I cannot play this game on Windows 10, given Dune 2000 works flawlessly on almost every single SKU from Windows Server 2008 R2 & 7 to Windows 10.

Ai is rather weak in RA2. I thought I was really good since I would beat the AI on brutal. Tried multiplayer online, got my ass beat so hard.

Red Alert 2 wasn't even a challenging game imo, because at first few minutes of the game the enemy doesn't attack you, so gameplay was pretty boring and you could seal yourself off and get away with sneaking up to them to kill them. So all in all, I wouldn't brag about it too much, not to offend you or anything. But try Mental Omega 3.0, sir, and you'll find a better challenge.

There's more units for every side, 12 more missions for the Allies and the Soviets, even Epsilon, as Yuri's faction is now called has missions like YR didn't have. There's new maps and gamemodes on skirmish other than battle, like Fortress, etc. There's even more new stuff in the 2nd beta and a NEW faction in its development stages. It is clearly the most developed mod, and as a result the best mod/continuation of RA2YR. I really think you should dust off that old RA2 disk (and YR I think) because it brings back the old memories, but in a whole new light.

Just go into game files and look for "ra2.ini" and search for the resolution height and width and change them to the desired one and then right click on game icon and change compatibility to win xp sp3 and it should work like a charm!

You certainly have more skill than I do, Medium enemies are a PIA for me to deal with.
This is MY startegy (Allied)
Build Power Plant. While it is constructing, form hotkey for grizzly tanks (ctrl+1) bring G.I. in frontlines and lay tgem down (D)
Press (Q) for readied building of Main Buildings (Power Plant) put it down contruct Ore Refinery, Barracks, Patriot Missile, War Factory, 5 Miners (or 3-4 depending on type of map), power plant, air force, more patriot missiles, (Infantry of G.I. and Guardians and dogs. If America just paratroopers and shit), I.C.V.'s.
Remember to keep building power plants and patriot missiles since on Brutal there are early rushes of Harriers/Black Eagles, the I.C.V.'s are important to take out Kirov Airships at a fair distance before they actually reach you, using Rocketeers for this is risky because they require micromanging as a defense tactic.
That's the first quarter. Next is the top tiered defense and offense:
Battle Lab, Spy Sattelite, Spies and the Hawk (take war factory, Barracks, Ore Refinery. If their Battle Lab has walls just sacrifice a few Harriers) ore purifiers, about 16 Mirage Tanks for camping and defense, 15 Prism Tanks because they are not durablr and need the Veteran Rank for full damage. Bring 12 I.C.V's for any air units.
Pretty much my strategy.
You can early rush the spy for a quick rank up, but it might not work for Gold because they take 20% of the Gold the enemy has.
I don't usually use Guardians because they are mostly good for land vehicles rather for Anti-air against Kirov's, and since the Mirage Tanks can do the land defence job it makes the Guardians a bit of a hassle to use (Unless the battle fortress is involved).
Oh also I experimented that the enemy won't attack you the more buldings you have (not defence or infantry) I guess the A.I. targets the least of the threats
