They definitely made the spine on mine sharp, its like a hockey skate the whole way! The gimping is much less severe on the 3rd Gen also. I've been super happy with it starting fires using the fero rod but still haven't had a chance to test out the bowdrill. If you get this knife I strongly recommend you opt for the leather sheath as it is a thing of beauty. The drop dangle on it makes it so I don't have to adjust my knife every time I sit down. It no longer stabs me in the side with the handle. Worth the price.

G'day Chris, Hey, mate, I like the 'mood'. Really. Tell it like it is and you seem a tad 'happier'. Great knife. I'm with you on bow drills. If they had ferro rods back in the old days they would have dropped the bow drill's like a hot rock.

I love the look and style of that knife. I agree with you in regards to the spine. It's a knife designed for fire so make the entire spine sharp and 90 degree. A 90 degree spine is much more useful. good review.
    Thank you

I have real good luck with the notch I feel like I can aim my sparks better and the rest of the spine is sharp like a hockey skate anyway. Not sure if this is one of the changes they made or not as I've heard they are on their 3rd Generation of this knife now.

  • @calebg7682

These look really nice, but appear to be a bit overpriced according to the website currently. For comparison, the Benchmade bushcrafter is a 4.5'' S30V blade with either a buckskin or kydex sheath and comes in at about $175 most places. I think the FC4 should be about the same price.

Bums me out. Now, I am NOT saying anyone copied or stole anything, nor am I saying that I am the originator of that design, but I've been making a blade almost identical to that for a couple years now. Sold a couple in the PM101 fb group when it first started. :( again, i am not claiming they stole, or that I am the original designer, parallel thinking at its finest.

Just checked the Ohio DNR Website, the only Birches that seem to be Native to Ohio are a couple hours east of you near PA. And none of them are the Classic White Birch that SOOOOO Many Bushcraft Vids tell us to pick up off all the Dead Birch Trees that are laying around like Potholes in Ohio Roads. Nope, looks like we have to play with Maple and Oak and Hickory. Not even enough decent Pines or Fur for Fatwood. As for using a Zipblock and a Ferro Rod? Screw that! That's why God made Zippos and Bic when you NEED a Fire NOW! Oh, nice knife by the way. You're right about the Spine, though. Even $12 Moras are coming with 90 degree spines. I can see it on pocket knives and folders that might rub around in your pants all day, but fixed blade belt knives? C'mon people, it's 2017!
