One of the OGs of RUclips knife reviewer right here.
I couldn't agree more I own four White River knives they are amazing😊
"I can find 35 bucks under my car seat". Yup, you're in rare form! I like it!
They definitely made the spine on mine sharp, its like a hockey skate the whole way! The gimping is much less severe on the 3rd Gen also. I've been super happy with it starting fires using the fero rod but still haven't had a chance to test out the bowdrill. If you get this knife I strongly recommend you opt for the leather sheath as it is a thing of beauty. The drop dangle on it makes it so I don't have to adjust my knife every time I sit down. It no longer stabs me in the side with the handle. Worth the price.
Screw them, Chris... Let them bask in ignorance of the knowledge you deign to provide. Never change and I will be a subscriber till the end of days.
You're fire skills have come a loooooooooooong way Mr Tanner. It's definitely a little easier with fatwood. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experiences with me, I appreciate it sir.
I really get into your channel. You cover the knives I like and your give an honest review that's interesting. I like that you go out and actually camp and use the knives like we would. Keep up the honest and accurate!
Thanks for braving the cold. Great review!
no way in hell id be out in that cold, soon as temps drop down to the 70s, i start shivering lol cant wait for the garberg review!
+Junkyard Fox Might have to bump it once for the Grizzly, since they'll be out next week.
Junkyard Fox what i wouldnt give to move somewhere warmer
I'm the opposite. Cold is where I thrive. Hot and humid is my demise.
keep on doin the knife vids chris, us loyal fans will keep watchin!
Nice video my friend. And for the record, I dont always dream of bow drills lol
+Feral Woodcraft You dream of how you're going to build a primitive bushcraft air compressor for the next knife review...
Feral Woodcraft That's why I like your channel though, you're like the Macgyver of Bushcraft.
Feral Woodcraft yeah right Joe
I love it. Keep the knife reviews coming!
I do like a hefty choil and real jimping on the spine. Keep doing the knives, you're the go-to on cutlery. Saved $100's thanks to the reviews.
When I was a wee lad, I remember birch up and down the East Coast and into Ohio. Then the Birch Blight hit. The species down here went the way of the Mohican. Then came the gypsie moth pestilence. I even remember Whippoorills.
Love your channel Chris. And keep doing the marathon of knives! Love all your videos and work Brotha. Great choice for this video. I wanna see the dark timber honey badger
FC5 is bad ass! Thanks Chris!
Love my FC7…great video and I love the “mood”. 🤘🏻😜🤘🏻🇨🇦
I dream of sheds. LOL. keep up the good work, and dont worry about the trolls, let them leave
G'day Chris, Hey, mate, I like the 'mood'. Really. Tell it like it is and you seem a tad 'happier'. Great knife. I'm with you on bow drills. If they had ferro rods back in the old days they would have dropped the bow drill's like a hot rock.
Probably sick of this question but what is the brand of that neat USMC digital camo jacket... so cool? And where do you get them? Cheers, BH
"Too many knife reviews" - that phrase has no meaning to me. Keep 'em up!
I like the handle, I wish more Knives had that Choil and Jimpping combination, but I'm with you, get rid of the notch and just do a sharp 90 on the spine.
I know you have a sharpener for your knives but I would like to see some videos on manual sharpening stones. Just an idea. Thanks Chris for the nice review and suffering for us :o)
Thanks for the review Chris......that knife is not my cup o tea....but I appreciate the hard work you did to make this review for the guys that like this style.
you were in a strange mood lol
Good info, thanks Chris. Enjoyed the vid, we look forward to the next series. Take care.
From what I understand White River has fixed the spine issue.
Keep reviewing knives! If i could sub twice I would. The haters oughtta know that part of being a good prepared citizen is being the grayman. They should adopt this philosophy in the comments by vanishing!
lol on like finding a unicorn ROTLMAO. So sorry that something put you in a temporary mood. I hope your day goes better sooner then later. It is a warmer day here in Ontario, temporarily. Lol on the cold to someone. Go get warm. Thanks for the tips.
Hell yeah, marathon of knives; keep em coming
Man what is up with the haters? Chris is out there in the freezing cold doing a review for us so we can spend our money wisely. Thanks Chris! If you don't like the content just skip the video. No need to call someone a prick. Some people just don't get Chris's cynical humor I guess. If you are going to leave a comment then at least learn to SPELL! It's "you're" not "your"! Haters - channel is better without you - move on...
Your fun in this whatever mood your in, a little scary, but funny.
Man i just love the look of that knife. I love s30v too. I had a benchmade fixed blade knife with that steel and it held up wonderfully.
Thanks Chris. I wish I could give this vid the thumbs up.
nice knife and thanks for your hard work in the cold, just remember those haters would bitch no matter what you did. rock on chris keep them coming sir!
Been waiting to see this knife in action. THanks PM101
I looked at one at my local knife shop and the spine is now sharp AF , not sure which would be better, short or the longer one 🤔, thinking an the longer one so u can chop better
I love the look and style of that knife. I agree with you in regards to the spine. It's a knife designed for fire so make the entire spine sharp and 90 degree. A 90 degree spine is much more useful. good review.
Thank you
I have real good luck with the notch I feel like I can aim my sparks better and the rest of the spine is sharp like a hockey skate anyway. Not sure if this is one of the changes they made or not as I've heard they are on their 3rd Generation of this knife now.
I think they should keep the rounded spine, and go with the notch. The round spine is wayyyyyy more comfortable to work with
just got my mora knife and tramintina machete today tomorrow my work sharp comes in with other camping gear
I love the marathon ofp knives. pleeeeeaaaasssse do more knives. :)
Chris, this is a cool video. I think you should have renamed the video "I'm Chris Tanner, and I'm cranky!"😀 I agree with you about the spine - seems odd that a fire knife wouldn't have a 90 degree spine. Anyway, keep on keeping on. And stay warm!
Blade shape looks a lot like the BK7. Is it close to the same grind? This thing lists for $290! There are really good knives for $100 less, like the Fallkniven A1.
you cracked me up. i say best vid. nice to know not only talks to things and hates cold.
do not care for the knife but like the vid. Thanks for your time. Looking forward to more reviews.
the begening lol
Hey Chris I just got a Jessica x and its a choppin machine love this tool thumbs up on it.
Another badassery knife & another cool vid..! You keep right on with the knives bud, cuz some of us appreciate the reviews and if the snobs don't like it, Oh well,right..?
Great video thanks. I really like the bow drill divot.
fc-5 cool knife! thanks Chris 👊
PM1010, -Love your video's Based on your White River and Tops reviews, would you prefer the Silent Hero or the White River FC5 or 7. Your advise would be appreciated.
I owe that very knife now! Was cool to seen it in the video
I laughed so much during this video! Haha
Chris love your marathon... Chris can you make marathon in different price range? Example $50, $100.00 to $150.00 & $150.00 to $250.00 maybe the top 5 in each range... PS Feliz Año nuevo y próspero año. ..
Poor people and common men check out the Cudeman Sanabria if this knife grabs you but the $260 price tag don't. The Sanabria has the same basic design and fire bearing in the handle . $79 for the regular and the mini is $46 ... Check um out they are really good blades for us poor folks.
Love marathon of knives!!!!!
Happy New Year Chris
Nice job Chris .
first of all, happy new year, second, awesome blade, thanks for going out there in the cold
I thought you were going to get that camera warm for a bit. The flame coming straight at it.
I love your knife reviews
Chris would love to see you do some reviews on some of the survive knives like the GSO series
Send the FC-7 through the Outdoor Arena. I know we could give it a good test.
have you ever tried batoning through case hardened cedar that's full of knots, my cheap old blade has waves in it
A cool knife. I'd consider owning it. This is a good channel.
Maybe the is a dumb question but here goes anyway. What are the gloves you're wearing in this vid? I'm trying to find some good cold weather work gloves. Do they keep your hands reasonably warm and still allow some dexterity?
Scott Hill google it mate
i like your attitude" ya tell it like it is and thats why im here to hear just that knifes are my thing awsome vids ....
Off yer meds today? haha. Thanks for the video. Been looking forward to these knives since Blade show. I agree on the spine needing to be sharp also.
What's wrong with s30v I have the bench made 162 and it's a great knife never had a problem with the steel. Holds a good edge and sharpens nicely
These look really nice, but appear to be a bit overpriced according to the website currently. For comparison, the Benchmade bushcrafter is a 4.5'' S30V blade with either a buckskin or kydex sheath and comes in at about $175 most places. I think the FC4 should be about the same price.
i love the knife videos, please keep doing them great channel, keep it up
What ever happened to the 10lb winter survival overnight? Seems cold enough now.
+papaschuette I'll get it, relax. Winter just started and I'm trying to get back on track after the holidays. I have to have a moderator, like Will there too.
PREPAREDMIND101 With all this "Global Warming" going on, you might not have long before it's 60 degrees again. Lol. Looking forward to more of your great videos.
I think a Survive Knives GSO 5.1 would be a much better fire starting knife.
doesn't have enough weight behind it? it's more for cutting and fire starting?
loved the intro👌
Damn Chris, you make me laugh. Thank You!
Do you know anything about the kabar snody big boss?
Hey Chris, I subscribed just because those guys below unsubscribed...lol. Seriously, love your channel man
Looks like a great knife till you got to the spine, they change that I might bite on this.
+James Anderson Sounds like they will on the next run.
i love your vids chris I'm in the UK so is there any chance you could review the American knife company forest model pretty please
Are there any budget friendly otf out the front defensive blades you or anyone would recommend? Maybe do a vid?
I like the knife.
I'm not much of a bush crafter but, does a sharp spine affect some bush craft tasks? Just wondering if that's why some choose a rounded spine with the one notch. #askwill
+Point Five Seconds To Respond sharp spines are too useful.
I'm surprised you're wearing gloves in winter that don't keep your hands warm.
hey Chris I just got a new phone, was the end of that video a bit blurry or is it this phone?
Its not an issue with the steel its the heat treat most people make it super hard like a 60 hrc and don't temper it down any so it has no flex to it and it ends of breaking
Bums me out. Now, I am NOT saying anyone copied or stole anything, nor am I saying that I am the originator of that design, but I've been making a blade almost identical to that for a couple years now. Sold a couple in the PM101 fb group when it first started. :( again, i am not claiming they stole, or that I am the original designer, parallel thinking at its finest.
Just checked the Ohio DNR Website, the only Birches that seem to be Native to Ohio are a couple hours east of you near PA. And none of them are the Classic White Birch that SOOOOO Many Bushcraft Vids tell us to pick up off all the Dead Birch Trees that are laying around like Potholes in Ohio Roads. Nope, looks like we have to play with Maple and Oak and Hickory. Not even enough decent Pines or Fur for Fatwood. As for using a Zipblock and a Ferro Rod? Screw that! That's why God made Zippos and Bic when you NEED a Fire NOW! Oh, nice knife by the way. You're right about the Spine, though. Even $12 Moras are coming with 90 degree spines. I can see it on pocket knives and folders that might rub around in your pants all day, but fixed blade belt knives? C'mon people, it's 2017!
Great vid. What was the price ?
Very nice design, a shame that's so expensive...
Is there any ninety degree spine have you tried the 3v version??
I need a kershaw camp 10 can I look under your car seat for the dough?
Mt. Baldwin bro the camp10 is uber cheap for the package you get. have a vid on my channel of it completely out-classing my bk9. it's absolutely worth the 40 bucks
nice knife. i know u dont like bow drills but have u tried it and how did it work fore u? :)
+Tommy Stöby primitive fire makes no sense to a prepper. It's just the romantic side of survival fantasy. If that's your thing, I don't judge. I won't do it just to fit in it be accepted though.
no i never tried it but i think i will try it somtime just for fun.
keep up with the knife vids!!!
Why not do a review of the White River Ursus 45 ?, it looks like a great knife but the only reviews on RUclips are in German language.
Tac would be proud...
the notch is specifically for the fire stick
Chris, thanks for the great videos. I have made better decisions based on them in buying knives...
Amazing Knife :P want it toooooo !
you could never talk about too many knife
Ya I hate the cold too... I work in it everyday.
