    Geez a lot of people in the comments cant get through their head this is a huge chunk of bark river 3v steel that is designed by peter kohler. Not all knives can be 50 bucks

      I guess we all forgot, and you just reminded us that Peter Kohler is a "Cult Hero" knife designer, at least according to Chris Tanner.
      That's got to make the knife more expensive and more valuable to those who actually care about "Cult Heroes".
      I'm not one of them thankfully, so that carries no value for me!
      I have nothing personal against any knife designer, as most knife designs look very good, including this knife, but it does not increase the value of the knife for me.
      I'm looking for overall value, which includes price, performance, durability, materials, construction, warranty, edge retention, etc.
      This knife falls short on overall value due to its average performance, when combined with its exorbitant price tag.
      I'm so sick of this knife snobbery, as even Chris has shown objectively in his videos that the expensive "Cult Hero" knives perform no better than many knives costing 300% less, designed by lesser known, but capable knife designers.
      Hey, if you want something for a glass case, then get this knife.
      I guess what I am saying is that this is just an unnecessary knife, unless you just have money to blow, and are a collector, and don't need to actually use a knife for bushcraft or survival.
      Get a Mora Bushcraft Black, a Terava Jakaaripukko, and a Terava Skrama, throw in an axe, and a saw, and you every base covered for probably less than one Dark Timber Cult Hero knife.

      Msilverhammer you have to understand the materials being used to make this knife this is a CPM 3v takes forever to grind, chews through belts, has hand finished premium handle materials, premium leather sheath. what do you expect it to be this is expensive and overpriced for a knife but it is not overpriced for what you're paying for yes it's not needed but it's a huge improvement over anything else. and btw dont compare the skrama to this the skrama may be my favorite knife but its a woods tool, where as this is also a combat blade

    • @sonfoku73
      @sonfoku73 7 лет назад +5

      Msilverhammer you cannot forget that CPM 3v is 3 times tougher than any of the Steeles you just mentioned in those knives hold an edge 10 times longer but it is slightly harder to sharpen but not by a lot. i will say it again
      overpriced for a knife. but not for the price and materials. i dont see anyone complaining about axes being overpriced even tho half of the time the axes that have broken handles are ones that are AWESOME *cough* gransfors bruks. but i guess those are handforged so its totally worth it

    300 bucks for a camp knife? If you want this knife because you like the design - ok! If you´re a collector - ok! But for work in the woods and outdoors? Never! There are so many trustable knifes for about $80 available … and they do an awesome job! This knife is something for lovers but not for workers!

    Everyone bashing the price of it, and with this being 3V and made by BRKT, I was expecting well over $300. I think it's an extremely fair price.

    Agreed.... Knives are getting way too pricey for the average person.. like a lot of stuff. However, there sre good quality knives with guarantees at reasonable prices. Check out Jeff White Knives, Mora Knives or Scharade Knives or even Condor Knives. I own and have used all four brands and I would put their performance up against any of the high priced designer knives. People just want to make a lot of money and as long as we pay it they will continue to charge it. Stop paying it and the price will go down.
    BTW: Nice knife videos Chris.... even though I think the prices is too high on a lot of them.....

    • @sonfoku73
      @sonfoku73 7 лет назад

      Levi Caddell its mostly cuz of steel choices tho, if u go with older time tested steel its perfectly reasonable

    • @sonfoku73
      @sonfoku73 7 лет назад

      Levi Caddell and performance wise it depends. i wouldnt put schrade against brkt cuz that convex vs the hollow and the steels and heat treat im sorry schrade loses epically

    • @levicaddell1077
      @levicaddell1077 7 лет назад

      Keep Out I guess it really depends on what you need the knife for.... I am not a fan of hallow grinds except for stright razors. But for most purposes common steel (1095, 1070, O-1, 440, etc.) is more than adaquate and you don't need special tools to keep them sharp. High priced high performance steel is only needed for tools or aircraft. ☺ All I need is a Barlow pocket knife to skin a rabbit or a deer. In Vietnam all I needed was a cheep $16 Western W-49 Bowie knife. It could chop bamboo or skulls depending on the need, My son carried my K-Bar with him in Iraq. A cheep knive that saved his life a couple of times.
      .

      srvctek1 Expensive? Granted, it might not be in everyone's budget, but as far as price for what you get, it's not that expensive. Especially when you factor in that sheath. "Boring" isn't a word that's every come into my mind, but to each his own....

      PREPAREDMIND101 Expensive meaning it's a lot of money for THAT knife to me, I agree the sheath is awesome.

      Jeremy Warrick seriously? that convex grind and the thickness makes it perform much better maybe not for the price of course tho thats true. and comparing this to the ak47 is a joke

      Jeremy Warrick really that sabre grind, flat handled uncomfortable 5.5" knife by cold steel is gonna outperform a micarta, rounded comfortabke handle with a 7" bladr and choil with a convex grind by brkt. Dont be a fanboy

    Good knife for a Rambo type of movie, but way over priced, and impractical.
    Like Donald Sutherland says to the commanding officer of the paratroopers in the movie the Dirty Dozen, as he performs an impromptu inspection... "They look pretty Colonel, but can they fight?"
    That's the same question everyone should ask about this knife, especially when paying hundreds of dollars for a knife designed by, what Chris Tanner calls a "cult hero".
    I don't know about anyone else, but I don't buy knives designed by "cult heroes", and I especially don't believe in "cult heroes, or put anybody on the "cult hero" pedestal!
    Just get a NO BS Terava Skrama beast of a knife, from Varusteleka of Finland, which is made to get dirty, and perform very rough tasks, and oh...yes, unlike the pretty paratroopers, it can fight!

      Msilverhammer it depends on what youre paying for man. cpm3v costs 62$ for a slab big enough to grind this, pkus it chews trough belts like crazy, add in quality, manual labor, lifrtime warranty, shipping, leather sheath, and micarta and its reasonable.
      yes overpriced for a knife, but not overpriced for what youre paying for

      OK...we can agree that it is over priced for a knife, but let me go one step further and say that it is totally unnecessary for a knife to cost this much, or for anyone to ever buy a knife like this, as it does not perform any better than many knives that cost 300% less!
      In fact, it under performs much less expensive knives.
      It is just a pretty knife, that should sit in a glass case.

      No its not it just isnt. Ive never had a knife this big with such good fine control, the perfect convex grind, chops, and is possible for a fighting knife. The fact that its well heat treated cpm3v lets it beat out any other knife out there. The handles will be much tougher to break and so will the blade. If i gave this thing a saber grind it would destroy any bk7, rat7, and esee6. Overall? Great price, however it isnt needed. Until u handle one i eont be able to explain. U get what u pay for definitely applies here.

      Its got the chopping power of a bk9 in a 7"ish blade but with the detail work of a 4" blade. If it can do all that and u still call it a safe queen i dont know what to say.
