Infrared filters are used in photography to create a unique and interesting look. It physically replaces the IR Cut filter that is already installed. A filter of this design cuts out all visible light and leaves just the IR light. The image is often converted to black and white for a punchy image with dark skies and white blooming foliage.

This is awesome and quite unexpected. This means that without any filters, Ember sensor captures visible light AND IR light ? With the regular filter, you cut the IR part and with the 720nm, you cut the visible part ? Is that so ? Do you plan to design 850nm filters someday ?

Wouldn't it just be easier to convert to black and white in post? What are the advantages of installing the filter vs doing it in post?

IR filters are fundamentally different from black & white effects. It's blocking a huge range of the visible light spectrum while allowing only specific infrared wavelengths to pass through. The kinds of details it picks up are not entirely visible to the naked eye. Can be some pretty spectacular shots when filmed right. Extremely niche application but very cool nonetheless.

It's different for sure. Foliage becomes bright highlights and clear skies tend to darken. It also reacts to skin differently and brings out unique aspects. You also don't have to go black and white as there is color to the shot. I tend to invert the colors at 720nm. It's a cool option to have, especially in concert with slow-motion capabilities of the Ember. Excited to try it out!
