- Опубликовано: 9 июл 2024
- In this episode the drive train goes in for good on the Willys Wagon, and I show you all my decisions for installing the Cummins R2.8.
Motor mounts, skid plates, transmission options, adapter, fuel system, and custom exhaust. This will get the chassis really close being ready for a body to be dropped onto it.

"This isn't rocket appliances" Nice Trailer park boys quote.
Ha ha only a few people get those...I did an homage to Julian in another video
@@BigTireGarage
Nissan teased us with this R2.8 in their Frontier and didn't deliver. I was so mad at them. Lol
I understand it takes hours to put together enough video for 10 minutes but, I'm sure I speak for allot of other fans, you are the best at what you do and 10 minutes is never enough to satisfy our fix..LOL. Keep up the great work and channel. Have you ever thought of having a drawing for a chance for a lucky viewer to be able to come out and work with you on a project for a day or 2 ?
We have actually talked about how to make plan a build with a fan of their rig
Wow! Absolutely insane to see what your doing with this rig. I’m amazed. I feel like you should be building cars for big companies to make it more convenient for everybody.
Pretty cool watching your show now, after watching and rewatching all the episodes on spike. Had to be about 15 years ago or something.
I don't know why I haven't seen you since jessi. But I'm glad you are still insipring this industry. Good to see you, I'm glad I tripped over your channel
Watching this has me wanting to put an r2.8 in my jt gladiator in the future.
Such a great motor!!!
Can't wait, loving this series!
Excited. Love this series as well.
If I haven't said it before I am really impressed you didn't use some kind of Geriatric Motors gasoline V8
Love watching the build so far. If only we had cool old rigs like the jeep wagon in australia. Love the idea of old school body on newish chassis. Saw the beetle body in the background and thought that would look good on a shorty jk chassis.
This build is amazing!
Thanks man it has been fun to build
Super nice work🤩
Another great episode. Looking forward to seeing the finished chassis setup.
You and me both!
Can't see Ian without thinking of Jessi. I've not only met both of them through my job, but talked with Jessi a few times.
Nice work
Such an awesome build series Ian !!
Thanks a bunch! more to come for sure
Sweet garage, nice to have all the right tools.
It sure is
Thank you Ian for another great video. Helps a lot in this pandemic. Take care, eh!
Glad you enjoyed it
Love your channel. I have to say I like that you’re Vw guy, I’m just getting into the jeep/ over landing scene but have been a Vw guy for years. Also my oval window bug is close to that same color scheme. This build is sick!
Outstanding
Thanks
Definitely hope the aftermarket has a solve for plastic oil pan as had a plastic valve cover on my old CJ and dammed if it didn't crack during an overnight Christmas Tree trip with the temp at 8f and ended up using the giant USFS sticky tag to hold the not setting epoxy and 4 parts together for the ride of the mountain.
Cummins actually has an aluminum pan available but I didn't need it for this rig...
I would love a r2.8 swap but that price tag is something else
Glad to find your channel. Loved xtreme. Hoping to build a 70s Ramcharger on 37s with 2.8
I did a Ramcharger on FourWheeler on Motortrend
Liked in 7 seconds cause I know its gonna be 🔥🔥🔥
Thanks for watching
nice work dude!
Thanks for the visit
saw you on your buddy's channel had to come over here you subscribe... cool content
I moved to Philippines and bought a used 2016 Suzuki Jimny and didn’t want the older VW 1.9 TDI that everyone does but this unfortunately looks too big.
Might look at the Suzuki Vitara H25a V6 as I’ve seen in Australia
Awesome work Ian!! Comment 60!!
Thanks! 👍
Love the stuff you do. I'd like to put that R2.8 in project 60. But i'm no fabricator.
It isn't that difficult
If you was going to run a automatic behind the r2.8 what size stall converter would you run
So I have a 2.8 in my tj with 4.88 manual on 35s I love it but I do feel like it runs out of air are there any new turbos for them yet
It’s the beaver from surfs up
How much was the bellhousing n flywheel n clutch ?
Didnt know Ricky from TPB was a mechanic
Glad you got that reference
I'm considering using the R2.8 In my '98 Grand Cherokee Limited in the immediate future.
Strictly a fuel economy move in light of price increases.
I like the idea of doubling fuel economy and having a motor that will out live me.
Also considering a interim LNG/ Propane.
Any thoughts on these two different approaches would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I watched your video with Nate last night.
Watched the Cummins presentation.
Thank you in advance for your informative videos.
Man i really want to fit this engine inside my chevy astro.
That would be pretty cool!!!!
Awesome build Ian. I just purchased a R2.8 for my 97 TJ . I would like to keep my A/C by using the mid mount bracket, but Brittany at Cummins repower said the power steering pump would then interfere with the frame. Is the frame you used wider than a TJ frame?
Yes, the JK frame is wider than a TJ, but you could notch the frame to get clearance that you need
What stand is that you have the Milwaukee band saw on? I need one!
It is from Swag Offroad
How has the engine Held up. Any issues with blow-by or smoke out the exhaust caused by bad rings. These Cummins come in light commercial vehicles in Mexico and I’m looking to buy a New mini bus with this engine but have heard of some issues. Have any of your colleagues or other R2.8 uses encountered any issues thanks. 👍 nice build
No problems at all with mine
As a fellow Canuck I wanted to know if you would be able to tell me what episode was it that you did way back in the day on extreme 4x4 where you put pivot balls on ford dana 60 with gm gears.love watching you work ..I have an 03 f350 6.0l and want to do the upgrade as I mentioned above that I saw you do ,but can't find it anywhere ..wanted to use it for parts reference..thanks
Not sure what you mean by Pivot Balls
@@BigTireGarage thanks for getting back to me ..so you made an axle for the rock bouncer raging bull and you used a ford front dana 60 and put gm gears inside of it then you took the knuckles and moded them so they would use a pivot ball instead of the u joint on the axle...I am sorry if this sounds off but all this is from memory of a show you did so many years ago ..I would like to say that I was glad to see that you are doing this gig now as your show that you were on extreme 4x4 was the only one I watched out of the other ones ..Off road is just cooler to me ..Thanks for your time ..best of luck with this new venture ..I will be enjoying your new show/videos

How do you think the EPA crack down will affect the engine swaps in jeeps
I don't think it will be an issue....especially since the JL now has a V8 under the hood from the factory.
where can I get a package?
That Cummins and a Tacoma has to happen.
That would be a killer combo
I would have blasted a hole in the oil pan skidplate for the oil drain. Or does the R2.8 drain out the side of the pan?
It doesn't use oil
I thought of doing that....but it is only 4 bolts to drop the skid plate.
What chassis did you use for your project?
2008 Jeep Jk 4 door
i love that fucking hair my man, subbed
Thanks
What’s your go to adult beverage there?
I go back and forth, but recently I have been enjoying the Chattanooga Whiskey 111
Right from Cummins
How did I just find your channel.
No idea, but thanks for watching
Ian where is the mean jeep that you go out with the busted knuckle folks
I built that on #FourWheeler but its in the other end of the shop
I love your videos, but damn man you look like a cartoon character that’s been electrocuted! Would someone in the hair industry please sponsor this guy he must use a ton of product.
Does he still have a TV series?
Yes you can watch FourWheeler on Motortrend
@@BigTireGarage so you work out of two different shop.
I’d love to share my full honest story with anyone promoting this motor
Ahoot me an email bigtiregarage@gmail.com
Maybe it's time to leave 2001 behind and update the hair?...cool build tho.
Nope.....and yep
Sorry it won’t let me reply to your question. Mine failed with only 14k miles on it
No warranty?
I know this is old... I hope the music took a digger. Fucking hell man...
I’m sorry, it still won’t let me reply.
they are refusing to replace the motor because it is going in an 06 and the first sale was an oversight which should have never been sold.
Did you buy from Cummins or other Vendor
Did i hear right? the 2.8 has a plastic oil pan??? that's not even fit for highway use.
Alot of the modern Diesels have plastic oil pans (to limit the sound transfer into the passenger compartment)
@@BigTireGarage i hope they don't suffer from the same issues ford is having with their plastic oil pans. the plugs and seals are failing.
I'd toss that cat in the scrap bin.
Lmao rocket appliances? Are you a trailer park boys fan?
Of course
That Cummins has a plastic oil pan. Really. Something about that curdles my coffee creamer. I'm sure it has nothing to do with that particular Cummins being made in China.
It's a shame the R2.8 turned out to be such a failure and POS.
TERRIBLE MOTOR
Why would you say that I love this motor
