I can't believe they delisted The Last Hope, without taking into account on how it would affect the future of gaming and the trout population in general.
I'd like to add to the indie list: Dredge Deceive, Inc. Everspace 2 Honestly, this has been a banner year for indies and AAs, including those started by former employees of the big studios. They are leading the way now.
I once had an original game that was received positively on steam get rejected from the eShop, and every time a story like this breaks that stings just a little more
A lot of people didn’t understand The Last Hope. It had a super deep story, completely original character models, and an in-depth RPG system. I am completely flabbergasted.
Indie games that you should definitely checkout! Signalis Ender Lilies: Quietus of the Knights Salt and Sanctuary Dead Cells Risk of Rain 1 and 2 Deep Rock Galactic Ghost Song Super Hot Chained Echoes And Hollow Knight (obviously)
Nice video, Luke! If you plan to endorse other good small games, I'd recommend you take a peek at Gravity Circuit; it's a game that is clearly influenced by the Megaman Zero games, and it's pretty cool. Be well, mate.
2:12 there's no such thing as bad publicity. any publicity of any kind will always be good for anything, ppl might flame it hard, ppl might praise it hard but publicity is publicity and that demonstrate it, even if it was for a day only, even if the game is really bad and a rip off, ppl bought it thanks to all the talk.
Cybperunk runs great on PS4 now, just btw. I can't afford a PS5 yet and I recently played it and I had so much fun - I went back after the anime came out and really enjoyed it. So idk how much they could be considered a scam :\ I've heard its also way better on PC and PS5 now as well
To answer why we enjoy bad stuff so much: Humans as a species respond more to negativity, it’s baked into us because it’s how we survived. Over time the negativity we took in changed, but it’s still something that stuck with us. We take the information and learn as much as we can, only to spread the information to others. It’s just something hardcoded into everyone, we as players just enjoy the games side of it lol
It's funny how a bootleg asset flip ending up on the nintendo store is a spectacle, meanwhile there's thousands of similar cases when it comes to mobile games. Just goes to show people have absolutely zero standards for mobile trash.
I highly recommend cult of the lamb, it’s a roguelite/city sim with narrative. It’s one of the few rogue games that have capture my interest. It also just got a free update with more story, the combat and style is awesome.
My tip to Wana be game creators is that don't repeat mistake of when Disney copied Oswald from Universals. Create your own IP with original story that might be hard but it's more rewarding that way.
at this point they shoul release that day before yesterday game just like this and profit off of it. i mean its the same kind of case the title art is the same as the last of us 2 the gameplay is the same as the last hope game. and as for the copy right issue from the calender app they should remale it the last hope part 2
It's not really that weird for people to focus more on the negative than the positive, whether it's with video games or anything else. It's called negativity bias. It's human nature.
I think this game (and Gollums) falls into the "so bad it's good" category that we put certain movies in, but tweaked a little - "so bad it's fun to watch someone play the dumpster fire."
Hmm, I'll bet there are going to be a lot of these "developers" who will now crank out purposely bad games that they hope people will "hate-buy" to dunk on. They won't care, they'll still get their money.
is this like a indie team or solo dev just starting out game dev by making prototypes copying other games or a complete team of copy paste cash grabbers like those in the mobile game dev market?
Just checked - it's now vanished from the Irish shop, too. Side note - I'm new to the Switch, having only picked mine up in mid May, yet I've stuffed it with tons of games, several of which I haven't even launched once yet. Too busy... But sweet Jesus, Nintendo's shop is an absolute dumpster fire. I've never, ever - at 51 - seen such a car crash of an online shop, especially for such a giant corporate entity like Nintendo. It's shop is awash in a vast sea of utter, utter shite - a morass of junk and rip-off titles, cloned asset flips, etc etc, with 'real' and quality games very difficult to find. It's baffling why Nintendo very obviously don't give two shits about the absolutely dire state of its chaotic online presence, which is perhaps why its absolute Wild West chaos enabled such spurious crap as The Last Hope to get such coverage while any number of quality ports, platform specific one-offs or Indie gems languish in the sea of crap that appears to have overwhelmed the pitifully slow, clunky store.
At first i thought it was ridiculous that they removed it just because it's similar to tlou but then i saw the character model for the girl. Looks like an asset rip, idk if it is or not im one of the few who hasn't played tlou or really followed it at all
the reason people like some rip off or bad games and movies or shows is because we love to laugh at goofy things. Breaks up the monotony of every day life. Where do you think Mystery Science Theater started? I remember back in the early to mid 70's a really bad horror, thriller or Sci-Fi movie/show would come on late at night. My friends and I would ad lib some of the lines and laugh like hell! It was a blast. Same theory with a really bad or silly game. Gamers or movie/ TV show buffs love stuff like that. Mystery Science Theater 3000 came out in 1988 and was created by Joel Hodgson.
"Only Up" should be in the same boat as this. But no, somehow it became a meme, and that means more BS is on the way, which is job security for you and content for me to watch. This is like an eco system of .... i dont even know 🤦♂️
That game is 100 times better than spammed series of junk on stores like Spot The Bug, The Sheep P, the Chicken L, Jumping Burger, Jumping Burger with Christmas Hat, Jumping Cake Deluxe etc. etc. copy and paste barrage of 1 dollar games just built for people who want to buy easy achievements.
But can we really call shitty games scams? The people who bought it got a working game. Which is a lot more than I can say about AAA games that released this year alone.
Wait a minute... Is "Schadenfreude" really one of those German words like "Kindergarten", wich are used in the English language??? If so, I didn't know that before. Just asking because I'm from Germany... 😇
Personally, I'd rather have reviewers highlight more "mediocre" indie games than those horrible games. Sure, obviously reviewers must still emphasize the really good games, but there are more mediocre games in the market. A lot of those games are made by indie studios starting out and lacking of experience. So, with more coverage, those indie studios would be able to learn on what to do and probably snatch up some niche fans along the way.
Chained Echoes is one of the best games I've ever played, and I'm not even a big fan of jrpgs, so that's saying alot :) It's not without its problems (the gem system etc is a bit clunky) but god damn it's a good game that needs more love! Crosscode is another absolute gem of an indie game that I never hear people talking about.
don't care about 2D side scroller games, that's like going back to the 80s, sure they added in some higher resolution, but it's a freaking side scroller for crying out loud! however at least they are more functional than that game dev you showed earlier, that dev should only focus on making games for mobile and make the game free, they shouldn't be able to sell that product for how shit it is.
there are some potential Indy games that are good, or at least they have a start in becoming something really good, spacebourn 2, it's an early access space sim at the moment, but for what the single dev has been able to accomplish within only a few years of development is astonishing the game is kind of a mix between star citizen and ever space, it's highly detailed even for an early access game and it has great potential in becoming something really amazing. it won't be multiplayer it will be single player only, and the games graphics aren't the best, but their pretty good for the kind of game it is, but it will run very well on most PC's without issue, which means a wide range of people can play it with their hardware, kind of like battlebit in that way, but the game is a work in progress, i look forward to seeing what it turns into in a year from now as this single dev has added a lot in the last 3 years of working on the game and it's crazy how much has been developed in that time just by 1 dude making the game.
I cannot express the amount of sadness I have knowing I can never play the absolute classic masterpiece "The Last Hope"
Ikr! It’s not like someone would take the time to pirate it…
im hoping right now that it comes back that was “the last hope” for modern games
Goes to show: there’s no such thing as bad press
wrong, that only applies to people/studios/companies who have no or little reputation to uphold.
I can't believe they delisted The Last Hope, without taking into account on how it would affect the future of gaming and the trout population in general.
I think the real question here is: How are there shark assets without teeth on the Unity asset store? And how did the devs buy those specific ones?
And nothing of value was lost 😌
It looked Better then all TLOU games.

Dredge is freaking awesome on the Switch.
Halls of Torment is the best indie this year
I feel like AA games might actually have a place again because of these great indie titles now
I once had an original game that was received positively on steam get rejected from the eShop, and every time a story like this breaks that stings just a little more
I want a video of you reading the title of every game they have made, while trying not to laugh.
CORRECTION: This was NEVER made available in the US, so it wasn't delisted - it just never actually came out for you in the States.
Dorfromantik is a must have. I'm gonna suggest Turmoil aswel, more stressful, but also a winner
The devs should sue. This game was amazing.
It was better than The Last of Us Part 2!!!

Had to search through the comments to figure out how to spell the name of it since Luke didn't bother to put the info in the video.

I can confirm that the map in Air Jet Fighter Combat - Europe Fly Plane Attack, is in fact an accurate 1:1 remake

Was Machinarium done by an indie studio? It definitely has that feel. And the soundtrack is beautiful.
Maybe The Last Hope is the next No Man's Sky. Just give the developers a few months to patch it. Just a few patches.
The Angry Joe Gollum review is gold, so funny
If you're going to make something, make it as best you can. Or, at the very least, make it the absolute worst.
Honestly never heard of this game until this video.
This HAS to be a big troll. Nobody can take this game seriously, indie or not
I looked up the game The Forgotten City and Steam wants $25.00 for it. Kind of a lot for an independent game but popular. I'll wait for a sale.
I think my other comment was shadow removed as spam
But I recommend Tales of Maj'Eyal if you like roguelikes. It's probably my favorite one
