Soldiers are mainly trained to shoot for centre mass, most are not elite marksmen. Zombies can only be killed by headshots or crushing the brain, so firing shots off in to its chest wont do anything.
Second big problem, unlike most zombies in the main walking dead series, these people are freshly turned. Meaning they still have (depending on how badly mauled there were prior to death) all their muscle mass. Fresh zombies use 100% of human physical potential regardless of the self inflicted damage it does to itself. Yes, human teeth can tear through flesh and clothing the main thing which stops us from doing the same is our own emotional hesitation and our body/brain limiting our physical potential, as if we use 100% you will seriously hurt yourself. For zombies there is zero hesitation and those walking corpses do not care about breaking their own bodies just to get at you.
Also forgetting two Human flaws which the dead do not have, the fear of being eaten alive & self preservation.

Also, remember only clean headshots work. Not every single soldier is a Hollywood commando type expert marksmen, capable of pulling off perfect headshots under pressure.
Only think you might also be forgetting is the zombies in that building are recently turned meaning they have all their muscle mass still intact (based on the wounds they suffered before death) Until living Humans, fresh zombies use 100% of Human physical strength, with zero hesitation or concern about the damage they do to themselves in the process. You are at a serious disadvantage if you end up in hand to hand combat with a fresh zombie.

No, they didn't... it took them years to adapt to the point they could get the logistics in place to retake the eastern half of the US. There are some contradictions here and there, such as them succeeding in clearing out parts of the West Coast, and the "Alpha Teams" that aren't very well explained, but overall it takes the military a while before they "adapt". World War Z is a pretty good novel overall, but the research regarding the US military was probably one of the worst-researched parts of the novel and it's infuriating going back and reading how artillery and concussive force of bombs are against the zombies but a bat or axe works just fine... because I guess getting hit with a bat or axe is more powerful than the blast of a bomb (and before you mention, I *know* Todd handwaves it with the "no snt effect" line, but if it doesn't work with bombs or artillery then it shouldn't work for melee weapons either).

Couple that with a highly unnerving situation and dozens of hostile combatants that never stop charging and don’t die easily, and it’s plausible for them to lose like this every now and then. They said most of the actual soldiers were protecting air force bases.

The submarine webisode is a major example of how bad it is to this regard, as well as the more recent "Ones who Live" series that has the CRM just... kinda... ignoring the fact they can technically get rid of the super herds because we saw the Commonwealth do it using fire bombs... but then that contradicts how in Atlanta they used napalm to almost no effect...

Let's be real though, given how fast the virus spreads in "All of us are dead", the military response and containment was almost OP. Remember they can run and make people turn relatively fast. There was no prior warning and it broke out in two major locations, a school and hospital. If this happened in any western average place I can tell you by the time people realize it and start to act collectively it wouldve spread across and beyond a whole city, methinks, yet in SK they were able to contain it to districts.
      That's almost too competent :D
I get many shows show an underwhelming incompetent military response. But given that in "AOUAD" they can turn people fast and run, it would spread like a wildfire initially, with police being unable to contain it much and the military needing time to react. Especially in a metro area.
Unless South Korea is just somehow better at this, we'd be fucked if this happened in Central Europe or so. Or at least a bigger area would be affected until all people got the memo to stay inside and let cleanup and containment teams handle it.

I literally only watched like half of the first season only cus the whole appeal to it for me was to see the beginning of the outbreak. This should've been the show that literally explained HOW the outbreak started too, I can understand Rick and his gang not knowing the details cus theyre just a bunch of random nobodies that just got lucky to survive and gained skills to live, but they could've made the main cast be scientists or high government workers that are getting to the bottom of it and trying keep everything civilized (and obviously fail doing so). Instead, like you said, we got a Walking Dead clone just with a gang of different characters so I stopped watching it. Also the no 1st world country's military would lose to slow zombies, I can believe some battles being lost and it could take a while, but there would 100% be military safe zones perfectly fine. Hell in the Walking Dead, barely secured safe zones exist with just a few guards and makeshift walls with the majority of the population a zombie but you're telling me the US military couldn't keep at least one area safe with all the equipment and training they have against slow moving zombies? This is why imo I like The Last of Us better as a zombie and post apocalyptic show/game cus the military IS still there (just no government officials to direct them so they became corrupt) and they're basically in charge of most of the survivors still save for a few random settlements.

And while true, i gotta point something else out, as someone who spent multiple years in ROTC, there is absolutely NO WAY Zombies are biting through BDUs (Battle Dress Uniforms) those things are pretty tough. So even if they were over run i have a hard time believing they were eaten.
Yes things bring me to another point, in at least 2 instances we’ve seen zombies eat horses, this is basically impossible, the hide of horses wouldn’t be penetrated by human teeth.

The reason the military fails is because there is no concept of a zombie in the TWD universe. They don't know what they're facing and they don't know that zombies fall with headshots and crushed brains,
They think walkers are sick or possessed people because there is no reference to zombies in that universe, no movies, no literature, no video games, that's why they call them walkers, biters and roamers, and not zombies. It took weeks for people to realize how to get rid of the walkers. Currently, in the event that there is a zombie apocalyptic, the military and the people will already know how to rid them because they were taught by movies and video games.

World War Z gives a better reason to why the military failed. They failed because every military thought that the zombies were just traditional enemies that they could win against with conventional tactics. Thus why disasters such as the "Battle of Yonker" happened with all the pointless spending of resources and the total breakdown of social order that followed after such heavy losses as it was broadcast live.
But it is quite foolish for any post-apocalyptic show to assume that the government and every of it's assets would totally be gone in a few short months just like that.

i love those tropes in media
after 6-7 shots in the body they would aim for the head - not because of obvious zombies but because target might both be on tons of drugs and have body armor
that would led to information about shooting in the head spreading within first 10-12 minutes
outcome: army has everything under control - they evacuate on purpose leaving people
    the same with police
if suspect is approaching they magdump in the chest
one reason is because they use 9mm like jackasses
second reason because junkies on all kinds of drugs can take 15 rounds in the chest and still run
leading to much slower but successful spread of shooting in the head information

If a squad is pinned in the library, say the rear office or staff facilities room. Every walker insideis occupied into breaching that room.
So none would notice 8 NG enter behind, would they? So how do the troops get ambushed or involved in close quarters? The POV should have been the squad inside and we watch the troops enter, they start clearing out, then suddenly a barricaded door near the entrance breaks open, an opportunity is taken to kill the CO, the troops split up and take different directions, you see the above scene where the 3 leave but should still hear shooting and yelling on the radio, realising these guys are going awol the dude reluctantly goes with them before the other soldiers finish clearing the building and realise.
That would be more logical at least and still provide the same narrative

These guys were unfit for duty as they were vastly overworked, underslept, and shaken because they recently lost one of their own in a previous mission. Their squad leader even attempted to warn Lt. Moyers about this.
Speaking of Moyers, fun little detail about what actually happened. This scene was a mutiny; they purposefully fragged Moyers in the library because they'd had enough of his shit. This was confirmed by Dave Erickson, the original showrunner for FTWD. Unfortunately, due to reasons stated above, everything went wrong and more people than just Moyers ended up dying.

Remember that walkers need headshots to kill and the world doesn't work like a FPS game. It's funny that you mention deaf, because frag grenades do make a hell of a lot of noise and that one was set off in a very tight space to kill Moyers. That very well could have temporarily impaired their hearing.
But even if that grenade and the whole mutiny didn't factor in at all, disaster was likely to strike given the poor physical and mental condition they were in.

90% of the comment section about CQC experts complaining about the accuracy of the military, do you even know how CQC in closed environments even work? Do you even know that in closed environments its not better not use the ACOG on your rifle but the rear sights? Complete ignorants, these soldiers are Guardsmen and in the shows its shown that they were just teens, literal kids most of them, they're a reserve force that is mostly stationed as civilians waiting to be put to duty, they get training monthly so why should most of them have more experience or fear control than regulars? What probably happened here is that they probably breached in and found all the rooms infested, so during breaching each soldier would be dealing with their selected room from multiple different flanks and directions, multitasking is hard, one soldier can breach a room yeah but if they grab your rifle before you can shoot them all you put your whole team on risk because they overwhelm you, and walkers have super strength, the full strength of the bones and the living don't use the full strength of the bones, let's say you have a M4 like the guardsmen here, you have 30 MAG, are you even Elite to headshot 50 zombies in 5 seconds? The simple answer is no, you don't.
Even worse, in the Walking Dead you need headshots for every Zombie, and breaking legs only disable the zombies logically because of the nerves, so a even frag grenade would probably just disable most of the zombies instead of killing them, hell maybe most of the shrapnel would hit the torso and they would be completely ok and will resume going towards you.
And there is even a comment saying that Michonne would be able take 20 zombies by herself, in a open environment yes, but Michonne nor Rick would go into a building full with a horde, if you have watched the episodes, Michonne has gotten in trouble with buildings like that last time when Bob was around and they went into a school for meds or smth, they were infested with Zombies hell even Rick has gotten in trouble sometimes and those buildings were lowly infested this is because of the limited maneuverability and mobility in very closed environments.
So in simple words the reason why they died here is because the military has CQC training that deals with conventional enemies that have firearms, they don't have training against Walking Dead, a unconventional enemy that goes at you without fear or hesitation, but the army man does.

@@WikchsawaThey may not articulate their point well enough but people can rationally deduce something is 'off' about this, and the show doesn't attempt to rectify it.
CQB is incredibly dangerous because the limited distance between combatants negates the need for accuracy. SAS used to rely on the flashlights attached to their MP5's to aim with in CQB...
So weekend warriors trying to perform CQB are going to spray n pray into rooms, it will work but it'll consume a lot of munitions.
Walkers don't shoot back so all the points of mobility and positioning don't matter for the weekend warriors, they can be sloppy with that.. so technically the critics are right.
Regarding the fact their CO was fragged and the only confirmation of that was the implication of it off a website and the actual words of a showrunner is a failure to properly convey to the audience.
The military lose by design, any army on earth that's stretched this thin, neglects their own combat donctrines abd logistics will fail.
CRM succeeded only because the story required them to operate more realisticly, which knocks out all arguments why the military couldn't succeed if they tried, they could have, but this show would be about two or three weeks long...

    • @Wikchsawa
      @Wikchsawa 12 дней назад

@@johnwest5957 You're right about what your first paragraph, and the last paragraph, you pointed out the main problem with the Walking Dead, they don't show why the military loses, and reality is that in real life with shamblers or fast zombies the Military would win because they would have found eat pretty early that Zombies are attracted by noise and that's why they would win because the Military would indeed try to find weaknesses if they have problems with them, and if they find they're attracted by noise they will try to lure them and bomb them with precision strikes.
This is the reason why movies like World War Z, or games like left 4 dead are not realistic because they show the military completely unaware or realize too late of the fact that infected/zombies are attracted by noise.
And this is a problem with zombies in general, military is never gonna lose if they find out that fact, unless somehow Zombies figure out that they're being lured or something.
However if you try urban warfare in a very infested zone, or you try to breach a place with zombies it is indeed gonna be risky, but in this scene the military guys would have won if they just try to lure them out and wait outside.

@@Wikchsawa Yeah, zombies are the most abused characters in media. They go from braindead, to witty, walking to jogging, loud to silent, easily tricked in one scene, yet setting up ambushes in another.
It's not just noise though, if you notice in Fear and TWD the peak walker threat are the hordes right? Yet why is it the walkers appear to 'take and hold' territory like Atlanta or Washington DC?
Zombies should by 'nature' or whatever, form hordes and wonder off out of the population centers, but they don't leave when the story requires it.
I mean how much noise do you think was going on in california yet the National Guard were busy gathering supplies (the fact they had to do this is insane but nvm that) to retake the city. While there was some kind of 'no mans land' between them..
That raises a bunch of questions.. why are walkers holding ground? how was a no-mans land established? walkers dont venture back to where they came, or do they? why does the Military need to 'retake' a city from a force that can't comprehend what take and hold even is and is likely to walk off in a random direction anyway?
The more you dig the less any of it makes sense.

I can't find the video but a few yrs ago some YT channel did a skit about how an actual breakout would go down.
Basically it was a mix of:
all the pew pews in the US would come out
    we can avoid slow movers
zombies will rot and fall to pieces
    the military would crush hordes
people would quickly figure out what's what and exterminate the threat

what i never got about walking dead is when the napalmed the city, like if your that much of just "Fuck it" drop a moab on it, a moab could absolutely destroy the city, and kill everyone, they clearly didnt intend to save everyone considering they went full on vietnam in that bitch.

Listen. I can maybe see a scene like this if it was day one of the outbreak and the military had no intel regarding how to kill a walker properly. With that being said, the military has taken on walkers multiple times by now and should have the intel on how to properly kill them. I just don't understand how they can lose this badly in the span of a minute at this point in the outbreak.

This series didn’t have a big budget. They set the scenario but they couldn’t show it Justice. You see by this point the military is heavily strained, their morale is plummeting, they’re running on no sleep, anxious and defection is starting to take place out of fear for their families. However we never actually see what’s in the building, we don’t know what kind of walkers they are. Are they variants? We don’t know. It’s been displayed in the spin-offs that there’s more than just the shamble ones. I’m sure by this point they already know it’s a failing situation cause they have no way to contain it. Everyone who dies comes back everywhere. The military operates off containment as a priority, if they lose it they’ve lost control. The cities would be the worst, little pockets would be fine however having literal 10s of millions of them is a whole different story. That’s why they ended up dropping napalm and using nukes. People say “the military could take them down so easy!” Yes and no, combat arms is only 3% of the military. The rest is just auxiliary and supporting jobs which are really combat trained.

Dude, the military had never heard or seen a zombie, in the TWD universe there is no reference to zombies before the outbreak, in other words, they didn't know what they were really facing.

@@nataliamendoza3640 Regardless, you’d think highly trained soldiers that adapt to combat situations would figure out how to deal with slow moving targets can still die to a bullet to the head. The military in world war Z managed pretty well and their zombies could sprint and form massive hordes. What’s the excuse for the military in this show? It just looks like the writers wanted them to be as incompetent as possible because the plot demanded it.

@@CactusCowboyDan The zombies in WWZ are different than those in TWD. In the movie WWZ there were already references to zombies, and that's why they already knew how to kill them. in the WWZ novel the military and the government were inept with the zombies during the first months. In TWD no one knew what a zombie was and they didn't know how to get rid of them.
      read the novel WWZ.

@@nataliamendoza3640 Again my point stands. Regardless of existing knowledge of what zombies are before hand, a trained military is supposed to adapt and learn quickly in combat situations. So in the TWD they have no excuse to not quickly figure out how to deal effectively with slow moving targets that can be killed with a bullet to the head.
I’m not reading any novels. Because I don’t need to.
