Ngl this is kinda ingenious. Much more refined than trying to sit and wait for the capture card to playback all your footage in post.
I'm not tech savvy at all, but i also feel like you're retaining a lot more video quality this way rather than through magnetism.
We rediscovered my sister's old Canon V60hi in the attic a few weeks back. I started DJing a few years ago but I have taken steps to start doing mixes on a different channel. I decided I want to start using the camera to record the sets giving that vintage style. So a video like this is really helpful. Thanks!

@@schlinutzt3445 no tapes at all! You can record without even having a tape in. This device essentially records whatever shows up in your camcorder's viewfinder directly onto a digital SD card.

The first thing I thought of was last summer meeting some enthusiastic young guys at a skateboard contest in Canada that I support and video each year. They had a curiosity piece, a Sony DCR-VX1000 camcorder. That model is a hot item for filming skaters because of their image's look. I still have a box of miniDV tapes I offered them because those tapes are getting hard to source. Their rig could use something like this converter.
Yep, the VX1000 is a grail piece for skateboarders. Cool of you to give them some tapes as well.
and the result: it does look digital, not analog. but nobody seems to mind here because people don't notice the difference.

it always was digital... you dont get frames into hi8 tape, onle line of 1 and 0 kinda. I studied in film school as a dop so I know.
I mean, it does use frames, but not like in film film.
It sends a raster with line and frame resets, very quickly.

Greetings. I have an old Sony DCR-TRV 900 with many DV tapes that needs to transfer recorded data onto an SD card or DVD CDROM. Can this be done via this advertised instrument? I have a lot of memorable recorded footage while on assignment in Japan. Thanks.

S-video is the black plug (it gives better quality analog image), the red-white-yellow RCA plugs are Right and Left audio, and Composite video, respectively.

has anyone else have problem with the handbrake , it give me a glitch for some reason even after trouble shooting it and checking the format . always has that same glitch at the same time and the same type but its not on the original clip from the recording, very strange.

I just figured it after 4h of trying different converters. Get VLC. Mine is set to german so i tried to translate the next steps. Go to Media - convert/save - choose your file with glitch - convert/save - convert - Profile Video - H.264 + MP3 (MP4) - choose your export location - hit start! You can also batch convert in vlc on windows, not possible on mac os :(
Now that is a cool different alternative you did. Even great for longer RUclips videos including your own RUclips fan made movies.

bro i found my dads old dcr-hc26 video cassette recorder, and using this not only lets me convert all his old cassettes of our family Christmases from the early 2000s, but also opens up the door to endless shortfilms
Did you end up getting a capture card and trying to record directly to the sd card instead of converting already written tapes? I’m curious which capture card you got and if it’s working well for this application
@@anthonydemeo529 well the camera i had was infamously unreliable and literally broke after recording the first pre recorded tape. (this card can do both, you just hit play on the recorded tape and hit record on the capture card). that said, the capture card completely broke within 30 minutes and we had to return it. now, it could be a fluke, it was running out of battery so i tried plugging it into my computer to charge but i think thats what broke it, so avoiding that might work.

hi, I followed all your suggestions but once the file was converted the movie is ruined in some places. The strange thing is that when viewed directly from the recorder the videos appear to be ''intact''. Could you help me?

same happens to me
i think the glitch comes from a loose connection from the cables to the device. try not to bump the cables or move the capture card while recording
@@BryanDelimata i didn’t move it at all and i made sure the cables were super locked in. Not sure what it is but crazy glitching and audio lag

You mean feedback as far as a sound issue? Turn the volume all the way down on the clear click. The feedback is caused by the camcorders onboard microphone sending feedback through the clear click audibly when the clear clicks volume is turned up. Only turn the volume up on the clear click if you're viewing back footage (disconnect the av cable before preview, or turn the camcorder off).

Try something for me if you don't mind. Record the video VGA style but when you transfer it to the computer try the old firewire to Microsoft Windows Movie Maker trick AKA IEEE 1394 4Pin DV and tell me if the vids don't look better. I find the direct route with the SD card really makes the video "scanlines" stand out but using Movie Maker smooths them out while still giving a retro look. Maybe it's my imagination...
there are an overwhelming number of negative reviews on this product from multiple sites ranging from audio/video desync issues, recordings not lasting more than 10 seconds to files being straight up not playable.

Hey, nice... amazing small bridge devices exist now that was not possible back then. I'm curious - does the nostalgia only go as far as the camera form factor or is there a desire to experience the virtues of analogue tape recording as well ? Plus if it is now a digital (only) device as you demonstrated, what is the difference to a modern phone? I'm curious to know if there is a big difference in the output quality as well.... some of the late model camcorders were recording quite high quality (comparatively). I should be considering the weird, cool device angle for the new gen in all this. Great stuff - thanks.

yeah you can go tapeless and on my camera you can chose if the date shows up
@@BryanDelimata hey so i got the wires and the irecord device but when i plugged in the S cable and all the colored ones into it, there wasnt any display showinf from the camera. did you have the same trouble or know how to fix? sorry im just puzzled
try keeping a old tape in when using it (don’t actually have to record to it) sometimes it only shows when a tape is in

It's a pretty cool concept. It's not a purists way but definitely beneficial in it's own right.

It had a built in battery that you will need to charge every once in a while!

The battery is built inside of the clear click device, like a cell phone. I'm pretty sure I've seen other people use an external battery brick that connects to the clear click via it's usb port.

You do not need a tape in the compartment when recording to an external device such as this.
I just bought a Sony handicam last week at the thrift store for 50 bucks!! Such a find. Couldn’t find the right tapes tho. Hopefully this works better 🙏

Yep, but make sure you get the correct clear click or capture device that matches (as good as possible) the quality of the camcorder you want to capture. But yes, no tapes at all.
I bought the same converter, but my camcorder ( Sony Digital8, didn’t have RCA output, i try with the audio/video and the S-Video output, put the screen on the converter isn’t clean

Yes you can do that as well, you could also get an el gato analog capture device (which is lesser cost than the clear click), or you could get an old sony vaio laptop or any older computer with a firewire port and capture the old school way!
Should mention that S Video outputs are not all the same, just ordered the set up and the cord and it doesnt fit to my s video in my camera

Is it the same process when converting to Final Cut Pro ?
On my camcorder display it shows battery life and alerts to put tape in. I was wondering how you got rid of that stuff when recording off the capture card.
Check the in camera settings. Might be able to change it or you might have to just put a tape in to get rid of the overlays.
On mines doesn’t work, idk why :(

Hello! I just got this irecord tool today too. Have the same isssues. Look at this video - there is glithes too. I guess no way u can fix it, it just how this tool works, its recording with glitches.
I have this same irecord for my camcorder but it says my brand new sd card is full and i bought multiple brand new ones to make sure still haven’t resolved this issue
