1960's Green Tonka Dozer Restoration
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 27 сен 2024
- My Aunt and uncle found this 1960s Green Tonka Dozer at a flea market June of 2020. I was super excited about it, since I already had the dump truck to go with it restored. The Dozer didn't come with a trailer, so I ended up finding one on eBay that was the correct trailer. One of the track wheels were missing. The was an extremely fun project and I love the way it turned out. The tracks were dry rotted, you really can't tell in the video, however they were bad enough that they needed replaced.

How wonderful. I loved when you said - I forgot this part. It was wonderful to watch you replacing it. I think that makes you human like the rest of us. Thank you for a wonderful restoration. I think you are my favorite. (77yo here).

Seeing these old, forgotten, toys, be REBORN, is just JOYOUS!!!
The part I like most is that I get to see all those toys you have in your junkyard, because those were the kind of toys I played with in my childhood... what a wonderful years... even when I never had one new ...
I sometimes forget which restorer I am watching...I always expect them to say "I make a new one"....
Those addicted to these videos will get the reference.
Another great job!

I had one of these, when I was about five, I reckon. It wasn't green, though - my late father, who for many years was a civil engineer, had it repainted Caterpillar yellow, with decals showing the name of the company he worked for. That toy moved a lot of dirt in our garden. It had a driver, too - a funny little jointed figure - one that would be known today as an 'action figure'.
Seeing this 'Dozer again brought a tear to my eye - not of sadness, but aching nostalgia. Thank you. And it's a wonderful restoration. Nice one. 👍👍👍
I'm 55 yr old woman...and I want that lol. Nice job 👍🏽
Watching the powder coat change is satisfying as well
I love watching you do such a clean and professional job . Great restoration !
I love your videos my favorite parts are the intro with the little sheep and the sand blasting.
My wife and I love watching. She especially loves to see the sandblasting part. She wants to know if she can play with the sandblaster. She said she'll be your sandblaster for no charge. :).
I think I could hang out with your wife easily. 🙂 Hopefully she likes hardware stores as much as I do too, I like them more than clothes shopping. Apparently I didn't get that particular "girl gene". LOL
Me too. The sandblaster part and the painting. let's start our own girl restoration group!
Lol,that’s my favorite part too!
I was introduced to a glass beading cabinet in the mid-1980s at a radiator shop I worked in.
It really is miraculous what they can do!
With special stencils you can also make frosted glass or etched wood designs.
Various media will give you various coarseness of finish and they even use special things like ground Walnut shells for blasting engine parts that they absolutely can't have sand left in. And in very special blasting operations, they will use chunks of dry ice- which of course disappears into carbon dioxide.
At the end of the Tonka assembly line, in the 1960's there must have been some guy, like Chip, that put toys together.
Growing up poor, I only knew of a handful of these toys and that was because of being allowed to play in some other kid's sand box. Someday soon, the size of Chip's collection will be museum sized. Chip should call it Chip's Sand Box Collection.
Thank you soo much for the support and watching my videos. I truly enjoy this hobby, Glad that you enjoy it as well.
M & D surely couldn't afford to buy me these toys! Maybe they weren't being made in the 50's ! ? ? ...NewkfromKentucky
The Tonkas that we see Chip restore probably came from the early 60"s. The oval Tonka logo started in 1955. From the sandbox (which I played in 1963-67) those toys included the giant yellow crane and giant dump truck. Late in the decade a nearby family gave me a pickup, dump truck and jeep.
Superb restoration, love the colours and the fact that it matches the truck that is pulling it, well done 👍
Даже по продуманной «простоте» конструкции и качеству исполнения - видна истинная забота о маленьких гражданах ВЕЛИКОЙ страны! Реставратору респект и низкий поклон!
По-английски пиши, может кинут монет тридцать.
I did the same with all of my childhood tonka toys and now my grandchildren enjoy them. My kids have now got to heavy equipment. It is good to see that others do the same.
Boy, when you have the right tools it looks so easy but I know it’s not
I love the media blaster and paint booth
Thank you! The right tools make all the difference! Thanks for watching!
Very entertaining. I don't know if anybody can relate. When being a kid and smelling that brand new Tonka toy. With the new smell of paint and rubber. It was just a really nice feeling when being a kid.
You have to be proud of this restoration. With the dump truck and trailer. Beautiful!
Thank you! I really enjoyed this one. Especially since I had the correct dump truck for it.
Давно ждали историю про бульдозер. Очень хорошо получилось...
Спасибо!
Now "That's a Bull Dozer"ready for any" Construction 🏗️🚧 site".
Sincerely Yours 🤠 Mr Severance.
Your the Best!
Every time I see one of these beautiful metal toys get returned to their former glory makes my heart smile and the inner child happy as I got a chance to play with real toys which brings me back to a time when I could dig holes in the ground and get dirty and mom never had a care in the world as she would watch me just take myself to a place where I was an actual bulldozer or front end loader operator
The thrill of the HUNT! The exploration, investigation...and restoration. Completing a set lost for decades to back of garages, garden sheds and basements.
GOOD WORK!
Your salvage yard is growing! BuddyL, Nylint, Structo and what looks to be a Buckeye Livestock.
Careful, you may find yourself down the rabbit hole of Nylint and BuddyL circus, zoo and camping trucks! LOL
Thanks for watching!! There's so many cool models and brands from that era of toys. I'm finding new ones every week it seems like!

I think green bulldozers like this one is very rare. Because we don't see green construction vehicles, mostly yellow construction vehicles. Like dump trucks, backhoes, cranes with buckets, drill chains, you name it.
I had this dozer as a tweenager in the mid 80s. I never knew there was a trailer to go with it!
I saved up my firecrackers and fuses, then used them to "blast" roads down to the creek behind the house. Then I used all my Tonkas to build a dam so I could play with my model battleship and other boats.
Fun memories of a beautiful place to play.
The cement mixer and the auto transport remind me of my childhood when I had them.
Thank you for watching!
For me you are the "TonkaGod"!!!
It's so nice to see your videos. I'm looking forward to the next one. Warm greetings from Germany
Thank you soo much!!! I greatly appreciate your support!
Me encanta ver estos vídeos. Increibles restauraciones de pequeñas joyas. Gracias.
What was old and rusted---------is brand new again. Another GREAT restoration job!!!.
Я хочу снова стать ребенком и поиграть в эти великолепные, живые машинки!
Спасибо, спасибо, спасибо МАСТЕРУ! 💓💚💛
Привет! Я тоже хочу играть. Здорово было вместе на песке играли бы.
Awesome awesome work as always!!!
Looks better than new.
AND SOO KOOOOL
Mike Espo .
I got one of these Dump Truck and bulldozer sets for Christmas as a child! Now I want to find one and restore it !
Very good job. Nothing to say, it's really perfect. I am amazed by the quality of the toys other times. This one is from the 60s and it is still functional. Congratulations on this work. Gabriel (France).
Thank you very much!
to be fair, the Tonka trucks were of fairly simple design and construction, half the line share the same chassis and cab and all the mechanisms are reduced to their simplest expression, making them quite robust
the all metal construction also helps, as metal doesn't have the issue of plastic that can become brittle with time
Beautiful. It's ready for the sand box and can now provide another child with years of enjoyment.
On this one, I would made the repairs but leave original patina. Very nice job. 👍
I'd have to agree with you on that one!
The fine details are the best to watch ! This guy doesn't miss a thing.
Nice my grandma had some of these for use to play in the sandbox growing up... now got to the age giving stuff away and she still had em so knowing the value i tried to keep it in the family
Another piece restored and saved! Just fabulous.
Those tracks are in perfect condition
i was thinking the same thing.
Beautiful restoration, from intro to outro. Great video, audio , and lighting. You give me something to reach towards. I look forward to every new one!
After looking at your 'about page' I'm going to check out your videos next, they look interesting. If you hadn't posted a comment I would not have known about your channel, I hope I've found another fabulous restorer. 🙂
@@dianna3157 Thank you so much DiAnna. I hope you enjoy them as well as the new stuff that is in the works!
I love watching how you make everything look shiny ❤
So nice. Even the sheep want to drive it.
Chip, you got these two long lost playmates back together! Glad the dozer was not a real pain. But slow down, breathe, and then assemble. We can wait an hour or so for your excellence!
Thank you!!! I always worry about the length of the video. I actually start with 3+ hours of recording and try to keep it under 25 mins which is sometimes pretty hard. Thank you for your kind words!
@@ChipChannelRestorations I admire the way you restore these retro toys I'm in my 50's and they bring me back to my youth cheers dude keep up the good work
Es increible el nivel de detalles que consigues en todas tus restauraciones, sin dudas eres el mejor.
You are A #1 in your field.
I come for the sheep, and stay for the restoration.
What's with the sheep anyway?
I come for the Tabby cat😼. Didn't see it this time.
Love the way you bring back these Tonga Toys to life. I had this type of toy bulldozer when I were a kid, sadly it was destroyed. Watching this video bring back many good old memories. 🚜
Wow, thats a beautiful restoration! The perfect addition to your green dump truck.
Incredibly awesome, I like your Nickel plating and how you install the small rivets. Great job.
I love that you put in your mistake- Beautiful job!
Congratulations, it looks fresh out of the box!
There used to be one restoration channel I watch and that was "my mechanics" now I have too!
Your channel and his are the only ones I watch!! Everything you do is so organized and satisfying ❤️! And I love the end result of before and after!! I could go on and on...
I also like to watch those things.
Another Beauty Chip🙂
Thank you! I was super excited about this one, just to put it with the dump truck.

You are welcome Chip.
I really enjoy your projects🙂
Cleaned up and or new shop looks good.

cara pengerjaannya santai dan rapi 👍👍
wow you found the other half, and he picked him up to get fixed,
well done.
Very good brother. You are the best. I'm from Brazil.
Beautiful work!
Really enjoy watching you work, sir you are a true craftsman you accomplishments are spot on, thank you.
Excellent restoration! Keep up the great videos!
Thank you very much!
I have one of those and i still play with it
What a freaking set!!!👏👏👏
I have that dozer! I think it's the oldest Tonka I have. It was originally an industrial orange color, but over the years faded to a rusty beige. . . Still works, though. Beautiful work!
You amaze me. So much damage gets turned into new. I love the sandblasting. It's like shedding the old clothes for the new.
Finally someone that actually shows all the sandblasting
I have a bunch of mightly and construction Tonka equipment, so I really enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing Chip
Thanks for watching

Love your junkyard.
Man u make this stuff look easy. O took apart my first Tonka truck loader today and that was painful. Lol. Next will be soaking and cleaning, for repair and assembly. And yeah, my Tonka loader truck is from 75, an original one.
Amazing 👏👏👏
This is the best restore channel. 👍
At first, I thought these were full sized vehicles, and thought a giant was restoring them.
I had a Tonka bulldozer in the 70’s. It was Orange and black but looked a lot like this one.
I truly enjoy your restoration videos, Thank you
Excellent Job Quality!!!
Glad to see you found the dozer and trailer. Had to share this and the dump truck video with my brother. Just like the one he had as a kid. 👍
Thanks for saving these wonderful Tonka toys from the crusher! They live to play another day. Love your work and your videos.
My son still has his Tonka dump trucks!!! From early 2010!
Another awesome restoration. You’re going to have to restore a crane before you can get those Tonka’s off the top of the junkyard pile!
That would make a great intro video! I'll have to find a crane now!!!
@@ChipChannelRestorations Why is the importance of the Lead Test?
@Castle Bravo Thanks
Love your work. They are old toys, how do you still get replacement parts for them?

Great restoration!
I had one of those when I was a kid.
Wow my brother had so many Tonka trucks nice to see they are getting repaired
I've learned so much from these restorations. Thank you
No BS fake aging/rusting on this channel. Nice!
Great work like always 👏👍 had to watch it again 0
Beautiful workmanship 👍🏻 looks brand new
I'm impressed with the design of the dozer trailer. Add some simple hydraulics to it and it would work in the real world. Dozer itself is probably better than it was new.
I have about 15 Tonya trucks I would send everyone of them to you to restore excellent job
Takes me back! Beautiful job!
Thanks for taking time to watch my videos.
You matched that green soooo well!!! Just beautiful!
I remember those Dozer's also came with a white cab.
Amassing job!!!!!!
Awesone job on an awesome set.
Thats a beauty, ive seen some restorations painted with spray cans, that powder coat makes all the difference in the world
Beautiful job sir 👍👍
