I’ve got a ‘97 C36 also! Mine has 206k. Everyone on BAT thinks the W202 C43 is superior “because it’s a V-8”. But the AMG rebuilt M104 takes an already great engine, and makes it something truly special. The C43 is just AMG cams (SOHC 3 valve per cyl) on a standard short block. The C36 lump got the FULL AMG treatment, forged crank, rods, pistons, etc. A beastly motor - can’t imagine what a turbo’d M104 would feel like!
I can't believe I didn't see this sooner thank you greatly for sharing what you have done and how seems to be a rare thing in the mercedes tuning community but thank you a great amount of this also applies to the m111 engines aswell from my knowledge thank you again

@@TeamLovetap m111.975 seems to be the best for it with low compression ratio to start with and being a 2.3 plenty of torque and hp to be had but we are trying to find the stock mechanical limit ourselves before swapping to some BMW forged rods
How do you use the s38b36 rods and bearings on the m104 crank, when the width of the big end of the rods is 23.9mm and the width on the standard m104 rod is 22mm?

I’m Looking at the 144mm turbo bandit rods to be able to rev higher and drop the compression - do you think a thicker MLS gasket is a smart move to drop compression further? Thanks!
Thank u for the kind words🙏🏻 stock headgasket from the factory should work but the aftermarket one are bad now, they rarely last that high anymore, they changed the manufacturing process somehow… Yeah if your going to run stock pistons I would probably lower the compression a bit to make the ring lands last

I miss my C280. The M104 is a solid engine and very well designed. Mercedes made a huge mistake dropping it for a V6. I might look for a C36 some day to play with.
@@TeamLovetap The C32 was an impressive machine, but I hear the V6s just werent as smooth or reliable as the M104 was. My C280 had 150k miles on it when I sold it, still ran like new and got 30mpg highway. I always kept the engine bay spotless clean and those brass colored exhaust manifolds shiny! I did have an ignition coil pack go out on me I guess once, but it wasnt very expensive like people make it out to be and a really easy fix.

I am in the process of swapping m104 with a turbo into my w210 e55 amg, so I bought the m104.992 engine, after tearing it apart I have discovered that I don't have oil squirters and my pistons are made by Nural, not Mahle. Do you know if they are as strong as Mahle pistons and can have hight boost or do I need to find mahle pistons? Also can I use diesel engine OM6xx squirters in my engine block? If you could give me information that would be great. Thank you and keep up with good work.
I dont remember what the piston brand is on my m104.992 tbh but i think both work pretty good. Yes you could use these squirters, but does your block have the mounting points for the oil squirters? If it doesnt have the squirters stock?

I was wondering if you had a chance to finish up with the plate for stock oil pump, to prevent the block from cracking.( in one of your episodes you said that were working on it

My suggestion to you about girdle my friend, stainless steel is not good choice,it’s tough metal,you should take cast iron girdle,it absorbs vibration and has better abilities to handle

Whats the cheapest option for "reliable" 450hp (engine) m104 or om605? I just bought my first car, volvo 745. Im new to tuning but really want a good engine to work with and learn as i go.
om605 will be hard. maybe go om606. should do 500hp unopened with the right mods. less work with wiring on diesels, only hard part is timing the pump but after that its pretty easy.
i think that soft seal is in fact Teflon . i also think your block cracking is related to ignition cut limiter bashing switch to fly by wire and rev limit buy throttle and think things will be safer can anyone help me ban this video to keep the price of M104's down forever, please .. \
I have a chance to grab a m104 3.6 AMG engine for cheap. Only thing that's stopping me is finding an aftermarket replacement head gasket. Saw someone online tried using a 3.2 one and ruined the engine smh. But having a boosted m104 3.6 in my e30 would break the internet.
Serge SVZ no it is a drysump setup due to space problem in this chassi, but alot of people run stock pumps with similar power. Check out episode 4 of this series for info about our drysump system
Hydraulic lifters in the Audi world 1.8t 20v specifically is safe to rev to 8500rpm they are pretty sturdy

I have machined down the width on the small end and the crank is wide enough and are not built for axial controll of the rod

I can see if I can find the number, Btw I ended up going back to ”non HX” bearings the standard ones for this season to reduce bearing clearance

I think M104 is the better alternative for sure, the diesels are good but are harder to male them last I feel
