Great that this comparison is based on various real use cases. It gives a good idea of how the different oscillators will sound in a particular context.
I love the sound and playability of the Verbos Complex Oscillator - and honestly, all of his modules. The 3U 359 sounds awesome, but tightly packed together. Verbos modules are large - but strike the right balance in the 3U form factor.
I already have the DPO and it is hard to justify buying any other complex oscillator to have just another 259t flavour. The 3Body is just out of the league a totally different animal and I don’t regret buying it ❤
Oh! I see a Rubicon in there, interesting! As far as I know, the first one has AC-coupled TZFM? - To get such sharp results with my DC-TZFM'd Ver. IIs, I need to include a highpass. Also: I'm really looking forward to see the Verbos CO in comparison, since I've laid my eyes on it for the cleaner and less wild layout and functionality among all those Complex Oscillator offerings.
I have had DPO (for many years), Shapeshifter, Piston Honda MK3 and have extensively played with Verbos CO, Furthrrrr (great one), CS-L (another great one, although quite different sounding to what I perceive as "Buchla sound") and I am waiting for the 259t to get here to add to the Radical Frequencies DPVCO (+Waveshaper) that I still own. I am going for a 200t rig so I am glad to hear the 259t sounding so nice but I have to say that if I was to choose one from the rest of the complex oscs on demo here, it would be the Bresno...sounds great and has insane potential with all these features. The problem is of course the Frap Tools format. I've had a Sàpel on loan to test before I buy and although it was a great module, it was getting so cramped that it just made it an unpleasant experience for my big fingers to patch. Shame as I do like the Frap Tools aesthetics too.
Hi Stazma, I was planning to do a similar video, but I don't have the ones you're showcasing and my collection is quite complementary. Is it OK to do a follow up on your video and reuse a few seconds of your introduction? It's going to be cool since you've been using the MakeNoise case. There will be a certain continuity, especially if I put some Vostok on the side. I will then link your video to mine.
the symmetry on the brenso was always left fully ccw, i think it made it sound a lot weakier than it is (lacking a bit of body), the fully ccw position on the symmetry is perhaps the only position on that knob that makes the sound thinnier :D other than that great review
merc pour cette demo , le fraptools et le larix sont mes préférer (dans ce que j'aime) , perso j'ai un bastl pizza , mais avec beaucoup moins de control mais les possibillité de mélange st assez folle. en tout cas merci
It's probably very good (from what i've heard from it). I'm not a big fan of the interface and like the Brenso I think it's main cons is that it's trying to do too much.
@@Dubmayer Ah well it's not the fault of the pot itself. I changed the knob cap for some classic Rogans and they're not suposed to fit on these pot so it these are not super centered, that's why it gives that impression of wobblyness on camera (barely noticable in real life and won't happe nwith the original knob caps).
@@Stazma Hahaha oh well - I was wondering why they don't use the pot caps that are on my tiptop buchla modules anymore! 😆 Would you sell the original ones to me? I'm looking for some to adjust my Maths to the look of tiptop buchla!
This was already way too much work and unless these manufacturers all send me a module for the demo I won't be buying all this hahaha. But it would be fun for sure!
It's actually much more complex i'd say. Not included here because not so much into the same lineage as the original Buchla 259. I wanted to stay in the analog dual VCO with waveshaper paradigm.
Once again it’s because I out different knobs cap on it than the original. I like the feel of these better and I don’t care about the mini wobble in real life.
@@Stazma They do suspiciously look like the blue ones it comes with, but i feel you, i allways opt for moog-style knobs on any of my gear :D still, i think a couple of hundred bugs should cover something simple like properly pcb-seated pots, then there is zero wobble no matter the knobs
@ yeah the 2 is amazing with its its cross mod tracking variations. Such a sonically deep module. I still discover new stuff about it. The 3 is very different but equally bad ass.
Awesome work, you are missing the mindphaser though, which I think outshines my Brenso and DPO quite easily, but I love having all three. The Verbos is nice and simple (the older versions had vactrols too) and it does sound very nice. I think in terms of raw sound the Brenso sounds very similar to the Verbos and has that growl.
The Brenso is more clear in the mid range but lack a bit of instant omph compared to the Verbos I think. Also Brenso has much bigger range of sound available.
@@Stazma as i said in other comments, it looks like that from your vid because the small symmetry trimpot is always ccw, that is the only position in which it makes the sound thinnier, i think the vid didn't do justice to how the brenso can sound fat. try it in the other positions! i assure you it doesn't lack bass or oomph at all :) cheers.
I think this proves how innovative the 259 was in the 70's :)

Dès que l'expandeur accompagnant le Dual Undula est dispo, j'achète le combo !!
Merci pour cette vidéo.

Magnificent Complex Oscillator.
I have a DPO and I am planning to buy a 259t. Can't wait to see how those are two side by side.
These two are very different (both great tho)

wow thinking to buy the 259t, now I want the brenso !!!

Thanks! I liked the 259t.
Super vidéo!
J’aime bien les sons du «Buchla bongo » test; on dirait des instruments acoustiques moddés par des aliens 😂.
Marimba dans du ring modulator ;-)
Nice ! Thanks :)
And what about instruo Cs-L ? What do you think about it ?
It's probably very good (from what i've heard from it). I'm not a big fan of the interface and like the Brenso I think it's main cons is that it's trying to do too much.
Je dois dire que le Brenso m'a mis une claque inattendue, c'est vraiment beau
J'ai vendu le mien il y a peu et je le regrette... Magnifique à jouer, vraiment...
Cool video. Am I correct that the Intellijel is the only one of these oscillators with thru zero FM?
Glad you liked it. No the Brenso from Frap Tools also does TZFM on both it's oscillators.
@ ah alright, thanks for your reply.
Shootout ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Can you make a great sound with all of them combined? My ears cant wait!
Polyphonic patch at the end ;-)
That wonky pot on the 259t disturbs me!
Wich wonky pot?

You mention the Verbos is the “bassier” among them. Is this the older vactrol or a later version of the CO?
No vactrols in mine. The old one seems even darker than this one I have
would be possible to do a second round with Cs-L, Shapeshifter, furtherrrr and piston honda and make mega patch with 10 voice polysynth 😀

Nice. Who da winnah?
None they are all great but all different. It's really a matter of taste and what you you're after.
Verbos!
Tiptop super

ever single potentiometer is not correctly centered and wobbles

Where’s the Hertz Donut?
Never had one but I played with the Mk2from my friend Eat Rabbit a while back and loved the squelchy sound it had.
