- Hey guys,
Informal video here today. Recently built this rather unique playback/vocal processing rig for a band with 3 singers and tracks. Thought you guys might dig it.

Awesome Video Eric!
Love this man! Thanks for the video. I just bought the Tascam based on your recommendations on the video. Now the task of learning how to cue up the midi in Ableton
Just set the Program Change parameter in each MIDI clip. Piece of cake.
@@eldowns thanks man! I got myself the iconnectivity midi interface. Is this where I’d be plugging the Tascam into so I can do the program changes in Ableton?
That’s exactly right.
Nice setup. Would be even more fun if they ran redundant on the PA12 but I understand why that's not done on this one.
Keep making these. Sadly there are very few people create Playback Rig videos even though there are hundreds and Thousands of them around.
Thanks guys, will likely have some more coming up soon. Send Al my best.
@@eldowns I shall. Let us know if you need anything including info.
@@iConnectivitySupport Rack ears. Lol.
NICE!!!! i'll DM you soon.
thank you
Hey man! Nice Rig! I am looking for a video on what settings are best on the Tascam TA1VP since I just got myself one. Think you could make a video on that?
I could, but there aren’t really any “best” settings tbh. It’s just about what settings best achieve your desired effect.
my g helping me get a job out here
Ay
Awesome videos thanks so much!
Quick question, play audio12 has their rack shelf’s on back order. Can you recommend a way to install a playaudio12 and a Mac mini into a 1u rack shelf? Is there an Amazon generic rack shelf o a similar solution?
Thanks in advance Eric!
I typically grab a 6” Navepoint rack shelf from Amazon for like $15, then drill 2 holes in it and secure it with a $.25 bolt and washer from Home Depot.
@@eldowns Perfect, Thank you very Much!
Very cool! this is probably a weird question, but where are the 3 mics plugged in? Somehow in the audio interface? Thanks a lot for your episodes :)
They’re plugged into the front of the Tascam units.
Hey man, great videos! Where could I get a quote of how much you would charge to build a rack exactly like the one featured in this video? I have a friend who may be interested.
Thanks!
Hi Mason. Just email me at downs.eric@gmail.com and I’ll give you all the info you need. :)
Could you explain how to set up the Tascam TA-1VP in a redundant playback rig setting since you already have the PA12 and the MIDI interface?
The TA-1VP is placed after the redundancy in the signal chain, so it’s unaffected. No special setup needed.
How would you normally route the Tascams to the mixer? As an insert effect blended with main vox or would the main vocal mic go directly in on the front and then line out on the back?
It depends on the effects you’re using, but generally you should split the signal so you have a dry/spare line in case there’s ever an issue. There aren’t any time based effects, so not much to blend with the main.
I gonna do live shows (hiphop) wich are the best settings for compressing /attack/ eq ?
There is no all purpose answer to this question. It depends on the vocalist, and the style.
Do you need to set this up VIA RTP MIDI? Also how did you program the unit to change presets via midi? I can’t see that as a listed functionality in the TASCAM units manual.
Yes, the PA12 and mioXM have to be connected via RTP. The Tascam does have a few MIDI settings buried in its menus - I don’t recall if I had to change anything from its stock position out of the box. I thought it was defaulted to accept MIDI, but if it wasn’t, it’s literally a single setting that has to be turned on.
@@eldowns Thank you so much, also is this a redundant setup? i.e will the midi be sent to the Tascam units from computer B if computer A goes down.
@@jcalmade Yes, it will.
can you connect a wireless mic to a tascam? if so, how do you do that?
Easily - just send the output of the mic into the input of the Tasman, just like a wired mic.
where do you get the rear panels ? or do you make them?
I use Redco Audio.
2021 and still seeing videos in portrait
Oh boy, guys, nobody show TikTok to this dude.
Is good for recording or only live performance?
You can use it for recording, but it would be better to use Autotune in the box.
