Out at the 2018 Moab Easter Jeep Safari, Cindy and I got a chance to see some of the cool new products that EVO Manufacturing had installed on their Jeep JL Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited. These parts include their all new JL Wrangler bolt on coil over kit that offers a whopping 15.5" of vertical travel, super clean long arm kit complete with high clearance brackets, redesigned rocker guards and front bumper that allows for the installation of a WARN Zeon 10 installed down between the frame rails. In this episode of the JL JOURNAL, you get to see these new products up close and learn more about them from Mel Wade himself. We hope you enjoy.
Even better than how fast the aftermarket is producing parts is how well they are refined!
It really is amazing at how fast everything is coming out and how nice everything is.
Sold my 97 TJ with a Rubicon express 4” long arm lift a couple yrs ago after loving it for 15 yrs.. These new JL’s have the Jeep itch back. And just loving the looks of this EVO long arm lift.
This guy Mel, seems like a really super cool guy! It’s awesome to see someone that really loves what they do. Very refreshing.
Oh yeah, we've known Mel for a long time and he's one of the few people in this industry that really knows his stuff and mainly because of his love for it.
Mel has done an excellent job engineering some great upgrade components for the JL! And in a relatively short period too!
Can't ever go wrong with EVO upgrades! (No, I'm not affiliated with EVO)
Thanks for sharing Eddie, Mel & Cindy!
Glad we were able to share this with you :)
Nice to see Mel again in a Wayalife vid.
That flex is just GORGEOUS! The JL will certainly be a force to be reckoned with when they start hitting the trails in numbers
I can tell you that it is already and bone stock :)
Love the bit at the end with you driving it!
LOL!! It really was that fun :)
Bad ass rig. Nice to see you guys hanging out together
Watched these guys climb out of Cliffhanger this afternoon. I love my LJ, but the capability of the new JL’s... wow!
Too cool that you saw them coming off the trail. Yup, they are the real deal :)
I really like how the new control arm locations/brackets are up along side the frame and not below it.
Would like to see how it climbs up loose, rocky, bumpy hill climbs. The DIY part is great! Love what I saw!
And here I am just getting my JK paid off and drooling over the JL again...Good stuff! Thanks for the videos!
LOL!! The disease is real :)
Same here! Damn it!
That's awesome stuff EVO is really getting with it on the new JL.
I actually got to look at this JL close up! Love her! Heavy duty!
Wow, Mel is looking good, been a bit since we seen him in a video. Nice work on that JL, nice short and sweet video of the new gear coming out. Sweet stuff guys keep up the great work!
Glad to hear you like what you're seeing :)
That is one nice looking kit. Aftermarket is doing well despite Jeep withholding the JL from aftermarket manufactures.
Hi Mel, i'll be in Fullerton on April and i want to see this new toy live! See you soon and cheers from Italy
Hi Eddie thanks for the video if possible and you are around the jeep people again perhaps you could do something on the jeep performance parts there are offering for the JL, TFL did one but they are not as good as you , I know you are a rock crawling family , but nobody gets in depth as well as you guys do and keep the videos coming, you are my favorite off-road channel.
LOL!! We appreciate you saying as much and while we do personally know a few of the engineers at Jeep, I don't think their marketing guys know we even exist.
Good looking set-up...
I'm in love. I think I need to spend some $$ with EVO. Nice job
Awesome Mel!! So to get all this done on a JL Rubi, how much? Do you have to swap drive shafts with this lift?
While he didn't have time to have one made before coming out to Moab, a new front shaft is something you'd want if only because the amount of droop you get from this kit is massive.
Eddie, With the JL Experience coming down the pipeline at sometime in the future are you planning on joining them and doing video coverage? I enjoyed the ones you did of previous jk experiences. Your's were more in depth than the few after you stopped. Just wondering!!!
We're glad to hear you enjoyed our coverage of the old JKX. We'll have to consider future trips with our JL.
Welldone guys!
Thank you :)
The JL has some resemblance to the concept vehicle Jeep Shortcut, but I wish they would of used Shortcut style tail lights. Such a good looking rear end it has :) Maybe one day Mopar will manufacture and sell them tail lights!!!
What a beast...
It really is :)
I'll take it! let me know when your done with it and I will let you know where to drop it off TYVM!
I wonder how much this exact suspension setup costs? If I wanted to make this happen how much money do I have to throw at my JLUR?
Awesome set up! I want it! 🙌🏻
You and me both my friend!
I wish I had not bought My 2015 JK now dang, but I have it payed for so it's the only plus. I love a lot of the new stuff on the JL. Does he still have the stock V6 in the JL? sounds Great.
Yup, stock 3.6L motor and without any mods to it.
So Mel mentioned that this can be pieced together starting from a budget boosed to this long arm kit. So my question is, where would I start (at what point in the budget boose) would you recommend? I will be running 37's.
I guess it all depends on what kind of budget you have to work with and how far you'd like to go with things. If you're ultimately wanting to go long arms, you might want to just start off with the coil spacers or if you can afford it, new lift coils. Probably try to get by with your factory control arms or at most, install their drop brackets if you feel the need for them. From there, you just keep added on to it.
I love that Jeep
Are these the KMC Machetes with 3.5" BS? I'm trying to dial in what backspacing to use with my JL build, and the wheel/ tire size setup used on this rig seem spot on.
Yes, KMC Machetes have 3.5" of back spacing.
@@wayalife Thank you! BTW - Love the channel -outstanding content, great footage, great editing. You guys are my go to for JL info! Jet Li is looking fantastic; keep up the great work. Cheers from Colorado
Eddie, Mel sounds like this kit is ready to go. Did he say when we will be able to buy it? Do you think it rides even better than the JK version?
He said they are in production now. Not sure when they'll be shipping though. Also, it's MUCH nicer than the JK bolt on coilover kit.
that grilll smashes
Another awesome video! How would this as a daily driver?
It's actually a great daily driver :)
The EVO rig? I always thought your setup was a nice mix yielding a great combo ride. Also, did you switch your suspension from the Rancho to the Dynatrac? How do you like it? My next bank account drain will be suspension upgrade on a JLU S. Trying to optimize for daily use with overlanding and minor crawling.
Still has the window sticker from Premier Jeep in Placentia CA! That's my dealer.
LOL! Yes it did.

WHY ON EARTH IS THE FRONT LONG CONTROL ARM BOLTED TO THE FRAME MOUNT IN A VERTICAL BOLTING AXIS?
THIS EXTREMELY LIMITS FLEX & PROVIDES MAJOR BINDING?
I've looked for pics online & video to confirm this configuration & it totally against the travel plan of the axle & lower control arms
The rest of your kit looks great ! except for this major WTF on the Top Control arm mount????
Please help explain this & any possible correction or reconfigured of the top mount to get the mounting bolts on the same axis plane as the lower control arm mounting point bolts!
LOL - It's funny how you try and talk like you know what you're talking about but really don't have a clue. I already responded to you on this video but really, why not just call them up or send them an email. I doubt they'll see your ranting here on our video.
What did he do to the rear bumper and tire carrier?
Awesome looking setup, too!
A rear facia was installed to just cover the rear cross member. Spare is mounted to the tailgate.
maybe for somebody it will sound stupid but here is one question: what about recentering the axles, i mean the edgastable track bars or relocating bracets or drop pitman arm?
The rear has a track bar relocation bracket installed. The steering geometry up front is being worked on.
WHY ON EARTH IS THE FRONT LONG CONTROL ARM BOLTED TO THE FRAME MOUNT IN A VERTICAL BOLTING AXIS? THIS EXTREMELY LIMITS FLEX & PROVIDES MAJOR BINDING?
Are you referring to the front upper control arms? If so, the joint on that end is a uniball and it has a HIGH degree of rotation and does NOT bind at a full flex. In fact, I don't know of any other bolt on coil over kit that yields as much articulations as this kit. But, you're free to believe what you want. :)
What was the item in the tail hitch? I know it’s to protect the tire getting caught when dropping off a shelf, but don’t know where to find something like that! Would really appreciate it if anyone could let me know!
It was custom made.
so a long arm kit vs a regular kit. both coilovers. how much more travel for the long arm kit.
None. Your coilovers will be the sole determining factor as to how much travel you have. The ONLY reason to install long arms is to correct suspension geometry after installing a tall lift. This will help improve ride quality on pavement and when bombing across the desert.
after rewatching the video, why are there two bike horns honking!??!?!?!
When do the rock rails go on the market?
Good video like always you the best
Thank you, we're glad you liked it :)
Evo and Kings.. 👍
Are they going to bring the new coil overs to the jk kits?
More like the JK kits were brought over to the JL. Due to the changes in design, changes were made to them to make it work.
That’s an awesome set up those Kings are beastly. Going to look into the Evo rock sliders.
Glad that we were able to share this with you.
So the tailgate on the JL will hold the 37" tire no problem?
It is critical that you extend the rubber isolators so that they press firmly against the sidewall of the spare and mitigate jiggling. You also need to take steps to help prevent the spare from catching on ledges or obstacles as that WILL cause tailgate damage. If you do that, a 37 can be carried.
So i cant find these sliders for sale anywhere? Are they on the market yet?
They are not available at this time.
@@wayalife Still not a year later unfortunately.
Pretty cool.
Does the fairlead have to be upside down with this kit? 😬
LOL! No, I think they did that just for fun.
Where do you get those large EVO decals?
From EVO
WHERE. CAN. I. BUY. THIS?
Awesome free cool
Be careful, you may find yourself pulling the budget lift out of Jet Lee!
LOL!! So much truth to this!
Is that the Stock exhaust because it sounds good when I was getting on it
Looks stock to me
Dirt Diver I thought so to but it didn’t sound stock
Yup, stock exhaust.
scuze the drool .... I want!.....what's under the hood?
Factory 3.6L
Factory driveshafts,gears and axles ?
Yup. All factory but the front drive shaft should be replaced. They just didn't have enough time to have something made.
Wayalife thank you
When and where will I be able to buy tis hole kit?
Should be very soon and you can get it here: www.evomfg.com/EVO-MFG-Products/Wrangler-JL-JLU
@@wayalife I know its been awhile since this was posted, but some of these products never seem to hit the market. Can't find the rock rails or that front bumper on EVO's site. A bummer, especially on the rock rails.
@@chairborne33 Trust me, you're not the only one wanting the rocker guards. I've talked to Mel about this and was told he was pushing to still bring them to market.
@@wayalife I'm glad they are still on the horizon! I've been torn between waiting on them or just installing
the bomber rockers with skins.
Hook me me with a good price with a bolt on kit and I’ll wrap my whole Jeep to advertise you guys here in Bakersfield???
4" lift?
I believe it is 3 inches as shown.
3.5"
I like they use the king shock component
