the moment you asked JJ’s parents about the day of the incident their faces immediately sunk. this is one of the rare videos where i get super emotional and weirdly enough i didn’t cry till JJ’s mom was watching him take a big bite of food and said “thats big dude!” he and his parents are so lovely, i’m so happy JJ is alive and thriving with a beautiful family
"Bad dog, bad dog... and they just ate me." That ripped a hole on my heart. Thank you for sharing your son's story. He's one TOUGH little dude! And adorable, inside and out!
I know; that brought tears to my eyes too! It's like, just celebrating the small things that JJ is HERE to eat the chip... He made me think of a little neighbor girl, a toddler, whose family dog, a pitbull, bit her in the face not once, but twice before they got rid of him/put him down, and that after they swore up and down he'd never hurt anyone or anything... I'm totally bias here, but I feel glad that if I had to fall in love with any breed, I'm so glad it ended up being standard poodles... A pitbull could be the best-trained dog in the world, and I'd still be very wary because it seems like toddlers/small children, especially, are easy pickings for them, even in their own family.
As a clinical psychotherapist, I watched the JJ story in amazement. This family is phenomenal in their resilience, devotion, and strength. JJ reflects the family dynamic of working together through challenges no matter what. His joy mirrors his family's heart and the love surrounding him. His sister's feelings of guilt come from wanting to protect their baby brother but simply being unable to and hopefully will subside with time. Their feelings simply come from a place of love for JJ and in some way thinking they might have been able to do something when reality was they could not. Those feelings are part of the thread of love that binds this family together. It is a powerful fierce force that has enabled JJ to thrive and to become the feisty, confident,, fun, strong little man he is today.
i felt much of the same when watching. very well said! :). very beautiful family. EDIT: also want to add that what the dad did was amazing. i'm sure in his mind it's simply just what he had to do, but part of me wonders if i would ever be able to do the same if i had a child. i would hope so. but right now it is hard to imagine tbh. lovely family. i really wish them all the best.
I want to hug them. All of them. His sisters sound so heartbroken. I pray with all my heart that they and their parents, and JJ, can find some sort of healing as time goes on. My heart goes out to them so, so much. I can't even imagine...

Why are pets that can do this to people still sold and labelled as pets? Tigers and other large sharp fanged predators are outruled as pets because of them being capable of horrors like this.
@@SatanenPerkele Yeeeees! It makes me so angry! This shouldn’t happen to anyone, yet, attacks are in the news daily. Shelters are FILLED with them once people realize how dangerous they are and give them up. My local shelter lists them with little stories describing what home would be best for them. It’s always “Firm but loving. NO children. NO cats”. Children exist, just because they aren’t in a specific home doesn’t mean the neighbors don’t have kids. It turns into someone else’s problem.
He's a miracle. I can't believe they managed to save him based on the graphic description of his injuries. That's magic. Thanks for all the docs involved, and his parents, and JJs spirit.
both of them are miracles. not sure how persistent pits are when they’re in an aggressive state, but the father could’ve been greatly injured as well, which if that happened, lord knows if and how the situation could’ve escalated. that dog could’ve injured his hand, i mean who knows!! god was there with the both of them, and yes that graphic description… god was definitely there with that baby. i mean, i can’t wrap my head around how he was able to survive it.
My blood was boiling as I listened to the dad, who is a true hero. I am keeping this video and would share to anyone who said pit bulls are not dangerous.
Who has 5 pitbulls? No one can handle that many dogs at once... much less massive animals like that. The dad was exactly right at the end. Being a pet owner is a serious responsibility.
I know nothing about the circumstances of this case, but it makes me wonder if those dogs were used for fighting, breeding, or other animal abuse. There is no reason one person should have that many pit bulls.
@@SatanenPerkele Yup. Every facet of the pit bull's body was designed for fighting and allowing the animal to take as many hits as possible without becoming incapacitated. These dogs were designed to be champion fighters, and their bodies show it. They should not be kept as pets or allowed in public or residential areas.
Really appreciate how honest the parents are about their reactions, from fear to shock to denial. I hope JJ gets all the restorative surgeries he can get funded and the sisters find peace.
JJ telling his sister she’s not guilty, and saying he wants his whole family to be happy made me cry. He’s so sweet and empathetic, I wish the best for the whole family.

I was in tears at hearing Sophia speak. My heart really truly broke hearing her say that she’s worried JJ might resent her when he’s older. And especially when she said “I try not to cry talking about it because I feel like it’s been a while now and I feel like most people would think after something like that you should be over it after this amount of time” 😭 Baby girl there’s no timeline for “getting over” grief or trauma. You’re doing your family proud by speaking out and being there for JJ unconditionally. He is very very lucky to have you as his big sister. The love you have for him is very very clear from watching this video ❤️ I wish their whole family peace and comfort as they continue to navigate their lives after this extremely traumatic experience ❤️
She sounds like she has PTSD and considering what happened very not surprising. As someone with PTSD I've said the exact same things. It's been x amount of time, I should be healed and over it by now. I've addressed it. Etc. I had social anxiety after trauma as well, I also said the same about not feeling safe outside and would avoid that. I wish she knew that trauma can re-wire the brain. The body changes and I hope she can have grace for herself and understanding that it's not her fault she still feels this way or is this way. The body is doing what it can to "survive." As someone with PTSD I see myself in her so much. There is help with CBT and EMDR
Yes, me too 😢sweet girl, I hope she will get over the guilt feeling. It was not her fault and never will be. I hope she will find some peace. And indeed, for grief/trauma, there is no time.
@@affectedhalfthe way she disassociates while her husband tells the story makes it pretty obvious that she has PTSD. She also blames herself and you could hear her husband try to place some of the blame on himself by saying he was the one that asked her to grab his slippers and that when it happened. So absolutely heartbreaking. The blame is on the owner of those dogs.
The parents of JJ have done a fantastic job of raising this incredible, empathetic little boy. I can see they feel guilty, but he’s reassuring them “I’m ok! We are going to make it!” Whatever they have taught him, it’s working!
I love how happy he is after all of that. He is just a ray of sunshine and that just made my day. I feel so bad for the parents. Having to go threw that and seeing they're child like that is just horrible. That should have never happened to this family.
This hits close to home! I fought a pitbull who was attacking my wonderful Rio. He was only 3 years old. Unfortunately, despite my efforts, Rio did not survive. I wish more laws were in place to protect people from irresponsible dog owners. My heart goes out to JJ and his family. Im so glad he survived this horrible attack!
I love his momma. She’s so genuine and sweet. His dad is a hero. I’m so devastated that they had to see him like that. He’s so strong for fighting so hard.
I was attacked by 1 dog, 3 years ago. It changed my life. I go nowhere without searching the horizon for dogs. I hear barking and I freeze. I am so sorry your little son had to go through this. I can attest to the value of therapy. It helped me in a huge way. Good luck to you all. ❤️
I was bit as well & ever since, I don't trust dogs either. I have a dog, she's very protective. She lets me do anything to her. But I still understand that she is a dog ; capable of hurting me if she were to take the notion. People need to be more aware & stop treating dogs like baby humans.
I appreciate the questions you asked the older daughter. I feel like you made her think a little deeper and maybe a little more inward (self-reflecting). I hope she finds peace ❤
The dad’s message in the end, about being a responsible pet owner, was powerful. I look forward to having a dog someday, and I will take that responsibility more seriously with this accident in mind. Your message is heard. I will share it with people in my life as well.
Bloodsport breeds are ticking time bombs and refusing to own one is what every smart and responsible person does. You can't be responsible enough to erase genetics if you want a companion dog or a guard dog get one, just don't get a fighting dog unless you want them to fight for entertainment because that's what they were bred to do.
JJ to his sister..."You're not guilty." Such a cute, smart, loving, vibrant & resilient little boy. I feel for his siblings & parents, witnessing the attack & dealing with feelings of sadness & guilt. JJ is blessed to have such a loving family & they are certainly blessed to have him. 🙏❤️🐾
To dear Sophia, it's okay to still cry. Sadly, some people will not understand why you still cry. Try to ignore them. It just means they have never experienced the same kind of pain that you have.
What a beautiful family! Everyone has obviously been affected by what happened, but they are able to talk about it and be forthright with emotions. The fact that the mom was willing to homeschool for two years so the girls could recover shows how devoted they are to healing as a family. They were NOT neglectful; the little boy was supervised by a sibling old enough to babysit, and no one, not even an adult (other than the dog owner), could have done anything to prevent an attack by five dogs at once. At the end of the video, the dad says that people should choose their dogs carefully, but he doesn't appear to be consumed with bitterness. The spunk and sweetness of this child is truly a testament to the love and dedication of the whole family, especially the parents.
My friend was attacked by her grandparents dog when she was 15 months old. The dog was mixed breed, usually friendly but this one time something happened and she ended up having over 200 stitches all over her face and head. Now she's a 25 year old woman left only with a few barely visible scars. I hope JJ is going to heal all his wounds and scars as well
I saw an article in my country's newspaper of a maid who was attacked by pitbulls at the house she worked at and was left disabled, the owners seemed dismissive. 😢 That's why I'm glad little JJ here is still living his life and being confident ❤😊❤❤❤❤
People really need to stop adopting/breeding pit bulls if they aren't going to properly train them. They're great animals, but they require a LOT of time and care because of the way they've been bred and handled over the years.
Omg I've been following JJs journey for a long time. I remember when he was still in the hospital. It's great to see him here in sbsk! And I'm glad he's such a happy kid
I remember first seeing him after the attack. I can't believe how well he's recovered already, it's staggering. I am amazed by these incredible parents too. They are super humans.
I actually felt scared to listen to the parents discuss the story. The mother describing how she saw her son's face with his eyes out of their sockets hanging out was really disturbing just by imagine it😱
My daughter was bit in the face by a pit bull while she was in my arms. The pit was fighting a German Shepherd and I picked her up. When the pit jumped to get to the Shepherd, he snagged her face. It was the neighbors dog that came into our yard where my kids were playing. It's a blessing she wasn't hurt nearly to the extent of JJ's injuries. It happened when she was just under 2 years old and now she's 18. She still has a scar on her cheek. All dogs can be dangerous, but pits were originally bred to fight.
What is up with pit owners? There is a pit in my neighborhood that is loose at least once a week, for 4 years now. Luckily, he doesn't seem to be aggressive, and neighbors usually bring him back to his house, but that could change in a second. My 7 year old and 5 year old like to ride their bikes on the sidewalk, and I'm afraid that them going by quickly will set that dog off. I don't want to be that neighbor, but I've been wanting to just call the police to report the dog at this point.
Watching the mom’s eyes dart around during the interview is so sad, she’s literally reliving the moments as her husband is talking about the incident. JJ is a beautiful boy, and has a beautiful personality to match. You guys are so strong and doing a great job. For someone so young to go through such a traumatic incident and still smile is a wonderful thing
That father truly seems like a genuine hero. You can't help but admire his resilience and the lengths he went to protect his son. However, I can’t really imagine being in any of the family members’ shoes.
Listening to the Dad rescuing his child…you are a real fighter, a good protector, a soldier for your child. I am so glad JJ survived! Can’t imagine the trauma. Thank God your fighting and bravery rescued your baby son‘s life.
Poor, sweet little angel. I wish him and his family healing and peace. They’re already doing such an amazing job with him. He’s such a bright light and you cannot dim his shine!
“I cry sometimes” that broke me. His spirit can’t be taken away. What a light in this world. I can’t even imagine a situation like this. They are all so strong!
Poor sister, she needs help to work through her trauma!! She has all the right to still be affected by this, no matter the time! All the best for you all!
I just want the sister to know that it is 100000% ok to still feel sad and upset when talking about this traumatic moment, no matter how much time has passed. This was a very traumatic thing she's witnessed that MOST people will NEVER witness in their lifetime. No one should make her feel like she needs to be "over it" in any amount of time.
Hearing Sophia talk about how she's "not over it yet" and that talking about her brother's attack brings it all back, rings so true for me. Trauma is like time travel. It feels like at any given moment, a part of you is still stuck in that worst day. For me, I finally got to a place where I can accept that I made the best choices I could under the worst circumstances and that I can't change it now. But there are still days where I time travel and feel it all over again. I hope JJ and his siblings have more days here in the present than they do in the past.
Yall. Yall are all victims. No one in the family is at fault. I have the same kind of emotional trauma so i understand how people can tell you all day long its not your fault but in the back of your mind its always there. Im so happy everyone is alive! Yall are so strong.
I am amazed at the results of his exposure therapy, from afraid of paw patrol to having his very own pup! Really glad that the parents stuck through with that
These parents… I could not imagine having to see your son like that. I am so incredibly happy JJ is still here and has such loving parents. My heart is with you guys. ❤️
The story the dad told was truly chilling, and seeing the mom sit there, listening intently, left a lasting impression on me. I'm so relieved to hear that the family is in a better place now. The episode was impactful from the beginning to the end.
It’s absolutely heartbreaking that JJ’s sisters feel guilt about the attack, especially considering that they too were children. Just as much as no kid should ever have to be victim to an animal attack, no kid should ever have to watch it and spend the rest of their life blaming themself. I hope as time goes on things become easier for them, and JJ continues to grow into the amazing person he is
JJ is the sweetest child I have ever seen. He has a heart of gold. This whole family is sweet, kind and just beautiful. And JJ is so handsome despite all he has been through. Just a wonderful family. The pain in his parents eyes though, telling his story, as a momma I felt that hard. Prayers for you all!
Knowing how powerful pitbulls can be, I have so much respect for JJ. I grew up near a family with a pitbull. She was vicious and barked constantly, and my brother told he saw her owner beat her. As a kid, I once had a nightmare she jumped the fence and killed me. Shame on those dog owners who jeopardize the safety of their neighbors. JJ is lucky.
“Consider your community” should be a driving factor for the type of dog you’re going to get. Humans make mistakes and dogs can decide to do something out of your control. If it’s safe for your community, it’s safe for you.
I’m so touched by this. JJ has such an amazing personality, he’s so cute, cool, smart, funny, confident, kind, sensitive… He’s truly special and so blessed to be alive, his strength is remarkable. The video of JJ when he reaches out for the therapy dog in the hospital, gets me every single time! I came out of the womb loving all animals. I still do. I can’t imagine being attacked by what I only ever associated with as love and joy. Pitbulls need to be phased out. I love all dogs, even pitbulls, they are deserving of love. Which is why we need to stop creating them. It is cruel to keep bringing more and more pitbulls into the world when they simply aren’t compatible with society anymore.
I agree. People get so mad at the idea but we're not saying to cull existing animals. Let them live their lives to the end in happy, loving homes. But stop breeding them so that in a generation or two, there won't be any more.
@@Heybrotruthhurts some pit bull owners aren’t fit to handle them, people tend to treat their dogs like family.. and that’s where a majority go wrong, i still agree, pretty aggressive breed fr..
Kids and other pets just don't mix with pit bulls. It's one or the other. Pits have a statistically higher chance of attacking than any other dog breed but a large margin, and when they do attack they have the strongest bite out of any dog breed. Their jaws lock. Pretending that this isn't true isn't doing you or the pit any favors. If you want a pit you need to be a responsible pit owner and understand the dangers. If that's to much for you then get a golden retriever

Yeeeees!

People make animals mean like that.. or if they have it in them..at least try and make them not to be killers...channel it...
My daughter at the age of 12 years got attacked by her friends pitbull dog 11 years ago. She luckily put her arm up to protect her face and got 8 wounds on her upper arm and six on her thigh. The dog was put down two days after. I understand the guilt of not being able to stop it. What an amazing family JJ is a beautiful boy as has a great personality. Much love ❤
That poor dog. 😢
@@155chipmunkzjust stop it. Poor dog? Go with your bambinism somewhere else. It got what it deserves.
U should start something to ban bully breeds.
@@155chipmunkz The poor dog...?
@@155chipmunkzno. Absolutely not.
What a gorgeous amazing little boy. Hes a little warrior to survive that trauma and seems so happy and well adjusted. A testament to his family for remaining strong and positive for him. May he continue to be a happy boy. ❤
He’s incredible to have survived. Incredible. I remember when he was attacked, I prayed for him and his family.
I hope the dog owner was put in jail ?
@@AS-qg1xulast I heard (maybe a year ago) the owner pretty much got away free. Even got to keep some of the dogs. I'm trying to find newer information and some people are saying the dog owner has died.
These parents are amazing. They are so aware of all their children's effects from this horrible attack. I pray for everyone in this family.
As soon as this video started, i began crying. What a strong boy that i hope grows into a powerful man.
such bravery in him and you all. This little guy has such a beautiful soul and I know he will be an incredible inspiration to others. I can only imagine the pain he endured...yet he is so happy and kind and full of life. xo
this is genuinely the most upsetting thing i’ve ever heard. i can see how traumatized everyone in the family is. you are all heroes & i can see JJ is having a wonderful happy life ❤️
The amount of times I audibly gasped when hearing them recount this story... wow. This is so tragic. God bless this family.
I feel so heartbroken for the sisters…I hope these girls learn how amazing they are.
This is the most beautiful family I’ve ever seen. The love and support they have for one another is profound. The sisters are amazing young ladies who have nothing to feel guilty about, yet I understand the inclination to feel like you could have stopped it. It’s a natural feeling. I wish these people nothing but wonderful things in all the days that follow. They have all suffered enough.
It was so hard to watching the parents when they were talking about the attack. I feel the pain in their voices and stares. You both are amazing parents and JJ is one of kind, amazing boy. I wish ur family a good life.
What a horrifically tragic story. Makes me sad aswell to hear JJs siblings talk about their survivors guilt, poor family. What a miracle he survived.
I would like to thank chris for posting this video. I've always been a fan of this channel but never has a video impacted me so personally, as someone who experienced an attack by this breed and who will never fully feel safe ever again. I did not experience even half of what JJ did but the fear in his parents eyes, just talking about the situation was one that I could relate to. It never leaves you.
Im still in awe of modern medicine as well as the people working in hospitals. Anytime you hear of 12+ hr surgeries, especially emergency surgeries its incredible. The effort it must take a huge team to pull off these miracles is crazy.
