Great job! I have enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I would love to see a more detailed layout of your rabbitry and your daily operations. As well as some of the simple things you have done over the years to make taking care of so many at one time easier and less labor intensive, or cheaper. Just all your secrets 😅😂 to help make it easier on everyone else.
This was a very good video for a first timer like me and my kids. My kids want to raise rabbits and yes they are older kids and know where meat comes from. We are looking to spring to start raising rabbits. Thank you for video
I am glad it was helpful! You are welcome! That's awesome you are going to start raising rabbits, welcome to the rabbit raising endeavor! Do you know what breeds you are going to raise?
@@BrokenArrowFarm307 we have not decided yet but doing are research on the different types. I am trying to let my kids do most of the research so they learn what is needed. Then we are going to come together and make our decision on the type. But we have a outdoor building that we are going to keep them in.
I live in Finland, where rabbits are 98% as pets and 2% as meat. I'm going to start raising meat rabbits not this coming summer, but after that. I luckily found a very reputable breeder only 1.5 hours away from me! It's also the most popular breeder in my entire country! I've been mentally (as in getting info) preparing for rabbits for.... 3-5 years, and now I'll prepare physically (as in buying and building stuff. Rabbit cages are so expensive to make/buy) Well done video overall!
That's awesome congratulations on going into the meat rabbit endeavor! Sounds like you have did your homework and you are ready! Thank you for the feedback and thank you for watching!
And we are working on forbidding abuse of animals , so maybe you should think about something else. What you see is nothing but cruelty against defendless animals.
Yes they definitely like the cold better than the heat. Our rabbit barn is insulated keeping it 10 to 15 degrees cooler than outside in the summer, plus we use fans for air movement.
I keep ceramic tiles in the freezer and put one in their home during the afternoon heat. They are a little suspicious at first, but after a few days they would immediately lay on it.
Not everyone has a nice building to house their rabbits. Not everyone needs a big rabbit. I'm just feeding me. I have Dutch rabbits. Perfect rabbit for one or 2 people.

I'd recommend watching Teal Stone Homestead for recipes, as for buying rabbit that is already processed you may have to find a more specialized grocery or butcher shop.
If you are having a hard time finding places that serve rabbit, reach out to local breeders if you can find any. If not you can also buy frozen whole rabbits on line and have them shipped to you. If you start with two does and a buck like you suggested, how many cages should a person get? 1 cage per animal then an extra 6 to 8 when the babies get bigger?
So I cage for each rabbit you are starting with. Then 1 cage for each litter once they are weaned, so in this case 2 additional cages for a total of 5 cages. The litter can be grown out to fryer size all together in one cage, if you want to keep back any replacement does you will need an additional 2 cages (one for her and one for her litter). Hope this helps.
Is there a particular method you use to develop large, fast growing bloodlines such as weighing kits at specific age intervals? Thanks for the great video.
Thank you for watching! I don't weigh litters anymore, after a few years of raising rabbits you will figure out what doe raises decent kits, and which one doesn't.
Do they need constant light? If im just looking for 1 breeding pair or a single buck and 2 doe like you mention can i just have enough natural light let in to be good? I would have yo run a whole new line out to where they would be to get lights wired up.
What feed do you use? I've been hearing a lot about "Bad" feed from Purina and a few others. I'm always looking for feed that is balanced and not have "Fillers".
I am transitioning to Modesto Milling Organic, which is free of corn and soy. I get it from Chewy but it's more expensive than Purina. Can't say I really trust Purina for anything. I also feed timothy hay and horse cubes that are timothy and alfalfa.

Meat rabbits are happy and healthy being raised in wire cages keeping them out of their own feces and urine. Along with keeping them safe from predators and diseases they can contract from wild rabbits outside. We supply cage mats good quality food and water along with fresh ventilation. We take good care of our rabbits as they make us an income and want them to thrive.

what is the perfect spacing for rabbits and also tell you that I like the cage
Spacing on what for rabbits? I'm glad you like the cages!
I bought a rabbit from the local amish auction and that rabbit had babies and it went on from there now each year i have rabbits for the freezer
That's great!
I could never kill my rabbits
No one said you had to.
Dirt floor shed is great that it go in ground and bag up up removed it better iv had dirt floor barns for many years
I agree I've only ever had dirt floor sheds for my critters

That's perfect!
bobbikelly2253,
I'm just a hobby breeder.
But Dutch are great, good mothers, easy to handle.
Giving them branches from certain fruit trees will keep them from chewing on the mat.
Yes that does help!
Can you talk about how you chose a business structure, how taxes work for you in this industry and how you market other than RUclips please.
Yes I can come up with a few things. Are you wondering about just the rabbit business or our farm as a whole?
@@BrokenArrowFarm307 for myself, rabbit business, but overall others could get more from the farm business angles. So maybe both.
@dochollidaze4742 ok very good, I'll see what I can come up with .
How do you deal with the piss and shit indoors?
It gets composted underneath the cages, via worms and adding organic matter. Along with a ventilation system.

Yes I do process them. They get an 18% protein rabbit pellet feed
Thanks

The extended light hrs just helps with breeding in the winter months. So no you don't necessarily need it if you aren't breeding year round.

How big is the cage match each breeding female ?
30 x 30 x 18 inches
what dimensions do you use for your cages? And what gauge wire? I was just about to make a few cages to get things set up.
30 x 30 x 18 inches tall. Heavier the gauge is better especially for the floor.
@@BrokenArrowFarm307I use 30x36.
I won't keep a doe that don't have 8 are more
I agree the more she has, makes her a better doe
Hi. You mentioned starting with a trio; is it okay they're siblings or the breeders usually just mix match?
I cant speak for other breeders but I make sure the buck is not related to the does. The does can be siblings.
Second-hand info: I heard about a breeder who kept inbreeding and started having baby rabbits with deformities like 5 legs.
@musicteacher5757 oh my, that's not good.
@BrokenArrowFarm307 Thanks, I thought as much ... currently doing my research to get on this train.
