One of my top 3 albums for sure Low was their evolution IMO....been a Testament fan since the beginning, i was 13 yrs old listening to The Legacy . They are the best still going in 2022-23!
Gene could jump into any metal project and become the icing on the cake and Eric makes some of the tastiest riffs around. Everything is precise and deliberate. The real attraction for Testament is the way they so artfully arrange their melodic movements in a cohesive package while having smooth transitions that even people who aren't musicians can bang to. It shows that they actually care about making damn good songs and not just album fillers. Good jam and priceless for the archives of metal history. Thanks Paulo!
Exactly! I love the lo fi garage stuff like this. Bands should record entire set raw rehersals like this and throw them up on YT and Twitch for extra monetization. Id watch the hell out of them
Oh yeah man, Chuck Billy mixing clean vocals/growls on "Low", and then that "Live at the Fillmore" which was near to perfect (or at least for my 15-year-old self :P )
You can clearly see Gene has not yet warmed up and he's going at it cold. Yet killing it from the start, and it gets better as it goes. What a drummer.
@@AgeofReason It's underrated because it often gets overlooked, while other albums in their catalog typically get listed as their best ones. This one deserves to be among those.
This whole clip is just ear candy. Hoglan’s a monster, and Eric’s playing is equally tight. Been a Testament guy since ‘87. 🎸 But I’m still not convinced they could play Smoke On The Water. 😁
That one reminds me of Hendrix from 2:05 to 2:14. I cannot deny it... Two Gods there...!! My admiration from Spain!! 🥁🙂👍🇪🇦 Gene 'the atomic clock' Hoglan RULES!! He's the best drummer in Metal... Nothing more to say!!
I remember the first time hearing Dog Faced God's and it being the first time Chuck did the more Death Metal style vocals and being blown away! I think this song lead to Demonic and The Gathering being heavier vocally and musically.
@@paulo-naturalchaos-rankor4127 100%! I'm sure you have, but, just in case, please, checkout his work on Death's Individual Thought Patterns and Symbolic albums! He makes the drums 'speak' in such creative ways!
@@vinman109 yes I agree with you. In fact I try to keep up with any and all work he gets involved in. I think and attribute this "creativity" to the fact that he is not only a drummer, but also a guitar player. In Dark Angel - Time does Not heal, he already showed this composition line.
This footage is absolute gold! "Here's Johnny!" 👀😆 Loved Testament since the 80s when they were “Legacy”. Bay Area Thrash is where Metal respawned, proper! 🔥🔥🎸🎶💥🤘🏿🤘🏽🤘👹🤘🤘🏽🤘🏿💥🎶🎸🔥🔥
Gene’s always a rockin machine. Huge fan since We have arrived. Hoping to see some new Dark Angel material in the future and happy to see he is back with Testament!
Hell ya man I definitely agree he is natural signature like say he has great talent as well as the other players in the band Alex is amazing he knows music very well as well as read and write music is totally cool
Right after The Ritual when the route of softening even more these guys released an album that took everyone by surprise and showed every other band (except Metallica who ent on an autistic trip by this time) that the right path for metal was going back to playing heavy (exactly what the guys from Pantera had always known). James Murphy nailed it here and Alex had left some pretty big shoes to fill.
I really don’t care what people think in my opinion Eric is one of the all time underrated metal guitarists. He’s simply bad ass.
@@lotsapasta0858 Polyphia is shit. Super boring, no exciting riffs or whatsoever, sheer skill masturbation.
He's getting off right here
I've never heard anyone say anything bad about him. Is there Eric Peterson hate?
Eric Peterson is one of the best Riffmasters in the Universe

John Tempestas drumming on this album was amazing
GENE IS JUST AMAZING!
The open handed playing is impressive
Wow he's a freakin monster
genes just gene
He hits like a 12 year-old girl compared to Dave.

Hard not to read that in Patrick Bateman's voice!
Eric Peterson is my favorite metal rhythm guitar player,he's written some great songs
.Epic!!
This is that "jamming in the basement, recording with one microphone" kind of feel. LOVE IT!
Exactly! I love the lo fi garage stuff like this. Bands should record entire set raw rehersals like this and throw them up on YT and Twitch for extra monetization. Id watch the hell out of them
My favorite record ever. Would love to see a jam with James Murphy someday. Love the darker era of TestAment.

Low is such a great, underrated album.
My first, and still my favorite Testament album!
Nobody says it's underrated, stop, everyone knew it was awesome when it came out.
@@AgeofReason It's underrated because it often gets overlooked, while other albums in their catalog typically get listed as their best ones. This one deserves to be among those.
@@AgeofReasonexactly dude, I remember when it came out I was 15 and was like HOLYSHIT Chuck Billy growls, WTF?!? And James Murphy was amazing.🤘🏻
LOW and The Gathering still my top 2 Testament records. Practice what you Preach is up there too.
Gene is a heavy hitter & one that I keep my eye open for in all new music!
NOW THAT'S A JAM SESSION!!!
Let's all not forget John Tempesta wrote and played all these drum tracks on the "Low" album.
From my favorite Testament album. The riffs and solos are beyond insane.

87… phenomenal year👍🏻
They need to get this back in the setlist. Monster fucking tune.
Still one of my favorite Testament songs. Eric is a fucking monster and so underappreciated in the world of real thrash guitarists.
Beautiful precision in every stroke.

Gene, greatest of all time!!!! Thank you for making my young metal years Amazing Gene!!!! Looks like a Rez jam in a shed!!! Love it
such a badass song, love seeing this rehearsal version w/o vocals and leads. Just bare rhythm, this is what it is all built on

Eric us crushing!!!!Elephant nuttts!!!!!!!And Gene, my personal favorite, amazing
I have literally watched this a million times
That groove toward the end was sick.
I can sit here and watch them rehearse forever!

He is currently with Dark Angel back to the roots!

My favorite testament album. How LOW, how LOW you can, goooooo!
And that's why GH is one of the GOAT imo
This is my favorite testament song. Makes me think of Anubis.
One word.... INCREDIBLE!!!.... 🥁🥁🎸🎸👍
As much as I loved Louie Clemente, Mr. Hoglan is on an entirely different level.

I would like to jam once and see that it's with Gene Hoglan on drums.
loved it.
The light behind Hoglan kinda makes it look like he's sitting on a diner bench
I got to see Gene at fenders ballroom before it burnt down 85-86? With Dark Angel opening for King Diamond. Gene Rocks the sticks!!
Try this out for recognition: E.P. for greatest metal back up vocals of all time "Over the Wall"
Gene Hoglan is the Neil Peart of thrash/death/extreme metal.
