Hey, I just recorded a piece of music on top of this drum solo to (hopefully) increase it's tastiness, if you're interested. You can see it on my channel.
He’s a real composer. So much more interesting to listen to than the chops mania that dominates contemporary drumming, even if it’s not as technically flashy
@@jackmaguire1158 Exactly. Gadd has that ability to take a simple quarter note and put it in just the right spot so you can really appreciate the value of that note. It's easy to throw every chop you've learned at something and that's what it ends up sounding like.Gadd like you say composes. He utilizes space, giving the notes structure in that way. He's also great with contrasting nice rhythmic textures tastefully with what the band is doing.
This is probably the most tasteful solo I've ever heard, oozes groove, the things it's done to my playing after listening to this countless times man, holy shit
Steve Gadd!!! you are the most ultimate drummer I ever heard, I don't play drums, but I got an uncanny way to spot a legendary performer. i play piano and guitar
I've always heard of Steve Gadd, but I had no idea how much of a Master Technician he is. I'm a self taught drummer and had the usual suspects of drummers as inspirations. After hearing this dude play, I'm barely in pre-school. My mind and ears totally blown.
I live in Rochester I met him after a concert I know his brother as well and I asked him that question and he says 'it just comes to me". But we all know the amount of work time practice this man has put in over 70 ears. The goat!!!
I heard him modestly say once that he became more focused on it after spending lots of time originally on technique, but I'm sure he's always had groove coming out his pores.
@@Hhhlll7778 uh??? It’s an opinion, dude. That’s all. I just don’t buy the guy. The same way you worship him, I just don’t like his style. There are way better drummers the guy and that’s a fact. He does know how to play, but anyone can do that.
This is the tastiest drum solo I ever heard.
Well..I would'nt go that far..

Well, I would. ❤
I like Steve's emphasis on dynamics, rhythm and groove and not just filling every space with a flurried spasm of gibberish.
the polar opposite of drummers who like sipping their coffee as they drive over rumble strips

People may not realize how original Steve is since he's been so imitated. The man really created a new vocabulary.
Steve Gadd is the best!!
Every strike has a purpose. Steve Gadd is amazing.
Steve Gadd non è un batterista. E un poeta.
I just don't think people realize all the different rhythms and time keeping this guy does in one simple drum solo. It's just incredible.
As a drummer, I understand what he’s doing. I felt the pulse throughout the entire solo. You can hear his marching band chop’s clearly. So good.
This is probably the most tasteful solo I've ever heard, oozes groove, the things it's done to my playing after listening to this countless times man, holy shit
😂
Oh we do..lol
Some know. Some don't know what they don't know.
This has made me pick up the sticks after 40 years. Absolutely mesmerising
This mans let 2:27 pass by before he smashed the crash like most of us would within the first note of our own drum solos. BIG. BAD. Steve GADD.
Steve has inspired us all to be better. Truly exceptional among masters.
for me:steve is the greatest drummer of all time because, his playing it's not just technical but has a deep soul
And people wonder why he’s a legend…this, this is why.
His feel is so spot on🔥🔥 legend Steve Gadd.
I love the way Steve's whole body joins in when he plays.🥁❤️

He is such a delight to hear and watch!!
One of the best drummers ever.
I'm a keyboardist. Where does someone pull this much feel from? "May the force be with you"
