    I own a T430s, I dont mind that much the unupgradable CPU, I do basic work on my laptop so the stock CPU is perfectly fine for me for at least the next 5 years. Since this laptop is inside my back pack all day, the weight trimmed s version is a better option for me.

  • @GrahamAtDesk
    @GrahamAtDesk 3 года назад +8

    I don't think it's as simple as either being better; they're both great. I use the S as my mobile laptop, the non S (quad core CPU upgrade) is typically docked, playing the role of "desktop". The bay battery is fairly key to me though, battery is otherwise not great. But the S is noticeably significantly lighter in my bag.

    Im getting a lot of two t430s laptops for a good deal on ebay. I'm going to put ssds in both of them and sell them for a small profit. Seems like a really good laptop for every day tasks. But also because its thinner, its a bit better for travelling than the t430. But as you say, not a huge noticable difference. And personally I would recommend the x230 for the frequent traveller.. but maybe the t430s is a good compomise if you want that bigger display. The t430 seems more easy for mantinance and to replace parts of it. With the t430 you can replace the processor, so I think that gives it more longevity.

    I own the T430s. Bought the i5 version with 8gb of RAM and a 256gb SSD, barely used in July 2012 for $450...a steal at the time. It had almost 3 years left on the warranty. At the time I would have bought the T430 if it was available.
    That said, the portability at the time meant a lot. I recently bought a used T470s i5 6300U with 20gb of RAM and a 256gb NVMe in perfect condition for $175. I love the weight and how slim it is. But I have to say that the T430s is as fast or faster than the T470s.

    • @LaptopRetrospective
      @LaptopRetrospective  2 года назад +1

      Interesting. Given the specs of both that seems very strange.

    • @hoppysport2872
      @hoppysport2872 2 года назад +2

      @@LaptopRetrospective Perhaps because the T430s has a mobile processor and the T470s has the lower-power ultrabook processor. Also, I don't run intensive programs...just Word, Publisher, Adobe Acrobat DC, Internet and streaming.
      The T430s is quite snappy and built like a tank. In almost 10 years of ownership, the only things I had to replace were the left hinge and the keyboard...all simple DIY jobs.
      The T430s is a much better notebook to watch streaming content on. Its 1600x900 screen is worlds brighter than the 1080p full HD screen on the T470s. Lenovo should be ashamed for equipping the T470s with such a dull panel. That said, it's very sharp.
      I picked up a minty-mint T430 for my cousin for $200, with 16gb of RAM and a 256gb SSD. It even came with the docking station. For the last three years it's on 16 hours a day without any issues.

    • @hoppysport2872
      @hoppysport2872 Год назад +3

      @@reel.... I believe that you mean T430 and T430s? It all depends on your needs. If you do regular stuff like Office, Internet, lighter photoshop/video editing, both are great computers. Just make sure you have an SSD and at least 8gb of RAM. If you're a gamer, stay away from the T430 series
      I also have the newer (2017) Lenovo T470s. For everyday tasks, I barely notice a difference between the 430 twins and the T470s. Where you will notice a huge difference is the battery life. I barely get 90 minutes on the T430s and get almost 7 hours on the T470s. If you mostly work plugged in, no biggie.
      For the price difference right now on used, I would go for either the T470s, 460s and 480s.

    I've always used laptop as my main computer as I don't use them for work or school and have them at home. I usually take the batteries out and keep the unit plugged into an outlet. Any storage goes to a SSD or flash drive. The internet is better (and cheaper) than cable or PUSH technology as I prefer PULL tech to select what I desire. btw do you want an old COMPAQ M300 w/docking bay? Cheers

      With ThinkPads, or at least ones from this era, there's no need to take the battery out because the battery utility (for Windows) lets you set when you want the battery to start charging (e.g., when the battery drops to 10%). You never know when electricity goes out, so good to have the battery in.
