I keep hanging a candle praying that one day the planets will align so that SEGA will one day open its eyes and return to the top with an incredible console.
I totally agree with the Saturn occupying the second spot, I'd even put it in the first spot, as it's my favorite SEGA system ever, but I can't ignore the special status of the Megadrive/Genesis as the first big 16 bit system, the war with the SNES, even though I never was that much into the MD (back in the day, I choose the PC Engine over the MD as my first "christmas console" lol). But the Saturn was more special to me (and thinking about it, it was the first console I bought with my first job's money lol), it was a special time, shared with special people, it was the begining of 3D gaming, with all those arcade hits (Virtua Fighter 2, Virtua Cop, Virtual On, SEGA Rally etc), it never felt so much "arcade at home", especially if you count in the near arcade-perfect conversions of Capcom and SNK fighting games... too bad most of the best stuff was only in japanese.
In retro perpective the SEGA consoles were always my favorite gaming machines from Master System, to Mega Drive, Game Gear, Saturn and finally Dreamcast. I and me with my friends had so much cool gaming experiences with each machine. With the Saturn the games changed dramatically, but it wasn't bad or better, it just fits. We played hundreds of hours Toy Commander four player multiplayer on Dreamcast, this game was a great party game, later I went to PC and Nintendo!
Fanboy :D Jk grew up with Mega Drive myself and only had great games, my cousin had a SNES but only shitty games! Both consoles have great games though!
I can agree with the Saturn as 2nd. I mean, while I'm not able enjoy its library right now, I think it's plausible that there are a lot of hidden gems.
Good ranking, Lady Decade, and I like your reasoning for your choices. I'm glad to see some love for Saturn. However, ranking lists are subjective, and this is how I would rank them: 9. Pico 8. SG1000 7. 32x 6. Game Gear 5. Master System 4. Mega CD 3. Mega Drive 2. Dreamcast 1. Saturn
Sega really should come out with some kind of device with a service that lets people play every Sega game created. Or a Dreamcast Mini. Saturn Mini too!

Was a Snes kid back in the 90's. All the new Mega Drive Homebrew stuff bring me to the platform I now I Know what I have missed. It's like discovering a paralel world of different games, even in the same franchise from Snes, sometimes. Not that I'm regret of playing Snes at those days, Snes are great to and now I do love both. I'm just loving to explore and living some of those days now again. I do recomend Everdrives. Man they're great. Have you ever tougth to do video on them? Homebrew videos would be cool to!
I loved the Master System, and while most of the kids on my neighbourhood had a Nintendo "clone" system called Phantom system (in Brazil) I wanted the Master System mostly because of the arcade conversions. It was natural to me being a Sega kid to buy a Mega drive when it came out and I was blown away with that system, I loved the arcade conversions on the Master system and playing the same games now in a 16bit console was amazing. When the Saturn came out I had very little time to play video games (studying at the university and working) so I never picked up any of the Sega consoles after the Mega drive. If I were to rank the Sega consoles, I would agree with you and say the number one was the Mega drive and Master system in second. I still want to buy a Saturn mostly because of the shooters. :)
This list is actually very refreshing because I can't remember if I've ever seen a video of listing the worst to the best Sega consoles. I see that the more recent ones that are plug and Play you didn't include but I'm honestly okay with that. I've heard good things about the Genesis mini that came out in 2019 since Sega got rid of that awful company ATGames who had made a plug-and-play console I got suckered into through false advertising that was just called The Genesis classic. I personally would have put that dead last unless because that thing hardly ever works on the sound is very weird and doesn't sound like the Sega Genesis at all and the controllers are total garbage
No SEGA Multi-Mega (1992)? No SEGA Nomad (1995)? Fun Fact: What you do with the Nintendo Switch - Playing as a handheld, or on TV - You actually also could do this with the SEGA Nomad (With Genesis cartridges) 22 years earlier 😁 Due to the lack of success of the Game Gear elsewhere, the Nomad was only sold in the US...
I also played a SEGA game Gear back in the day, I'm a SEGA kid, I love SEGA. SEGA Game Gear was not the only color handheld, SEGA Nomad and Atari Linux, and SNK NEO GEO Pocket.
It was actually not the only full-color handheld at the time, nor was it the 1st. Atari claims that title with the Lynx. Released later in 1989, the same year Nintendo released their Game Boy, the Lynx was not only the 1st handheld system to play games in full color, but was also the 1st 16-bit handheld system. Atari's Lynx also had a noticeably better battery life than Sega's Game Gear, even though the Game Boy still had it beat in that regard, as well as requiring 2 fewer batteries for its operation. It really is a shame that this amazing system so often gets the "Rodney Dangerfield" treatment. I am a proud Atari Lynx owner!

(4 player Quake 3 on a Dreamcast remains one of the best times, and one of the single most impressive ports Ive ever seen.)
Despite currently owning an Xbox Series X and a Nintendo Switch, the Sega Dreamcast is still my favorite console of all time. Although it had a short life cycle, the Dreamcast was still very innovative and it had a huge lineup of awesome games I still play today.
Ayeeee Lady Decade properly placing the Saturn higher than the Dreamcast, I get so exhausted of people saying otherwise even though I love both; 7 years of support for great games vs 4 years.
Do you have the rare MK-2000 Master System? It was released in Japan replacing the Mark III, and had rapid fire, 3d glasses support, and fm sound built in.

The Original Xbox is kinda the Dreamcast 2 for me, because the controller is clearly an inspired by the Dreamcast controller, there are many SEGA games on it (some were made for the Dreamcast but released for the Xbox instead), and the hardware is very similar to the SEGA Model 3 arcade board.

SC -3000 ?
For me it's Megadrive, Dreamcast, Mega CD and then Saturn. Don't care about the others at all. The reason the Saturn is low on the list is because I much prefered the PS1.

Saturn above all the others for sure. Dreamcast is second but not that close to the Saturn
Mega cd is charming, she is a goddess,Dreamcast is worse than Saturn.
Sega forever
wait, was this a Sega Saturn in a salad bowl!?... nevermind... lol
didnt mentiont he Nomad

We need og xbox on this list as a joke lol
You lied. You said the number one choice was gonna shock us. I don't feel shocked lol (Just joking)
