    Why do they keep clapping for random things? Is that typical in the States or is it just on this show?

    • @AliciaNyblade
      @AliciaNyblade 3 года назад

      It's a very American thing, especially within this corny comfort genre of TV, the cooking show that's like, "Oh! Hello there, audience who just happened to pop in at this very moment! Come see what we've got cooking in our little home kitchen even though it's obviously a giant studio set!"

    • @dogsbody49

      I were waiting for someone to throw them a fish. American TV is the pits!

      We are utterly boring in this way I have to say. The audience is instructed to clap by signage and our food show hosts are divas. That includes Martha Stewart, of course. Nigella was on her show as well and Martha kept interrupting. I find Nigella's style more relatable to how I like to cook and bake. She's very relaxed and has great little anecdotes.

    Is that woman just really desperate for attention? Shouldn't she let her guest at least explain what she's doing?

      I feel so annoyed and disappointed too! I really wanted to listen to Nigella explain how to make this cake ! It's too bad she couldn't with the constant interruptions! I wonder if anyone knows what amount to use for each ingredients at what temperature to bake for how long?

      I thought the same thing. She irritated me. It was like, "Look at me! I'm not doing anything to help with the recipe or to say anything meaningful about the history of Christmas cake, but still, look at me!"

    It's okay, Rachael, you don't have to say "Yum!" or "It smells so good!" after the addition of each ingredient.

  • @AliciaNyblade

    I have to say, the audience's constant clapping filled me with nostalgia, brought me back to the cheesy sitcoms and talk shows I grew up watching in the '90s. Those audiences, too, would give "Bravo! Bravissimo!"-style applause to the tiniest things as if they were perfectly-delivered Shakespearean monologues. But the charm of this segment was ruined by the hostess. She wouldn't let her guest or co-host talk. Chill out, girl, it's not all about you.

    I hate Christmas cake so much but I make one every year and use the same recipe from my grandmother which was handed down to me by my mum.. the secret is soaking the fruit in brandy for a good 48 hours before folding in the dry ingredients.. Plus I use apricot jam as a glaze

    • @starsaint

      If you hate it so much why not only use the fruits you like? Or make a spiced crystallized ginger cake and stud some pretty whole preserved fruits and chestnuts on top? Like jewels. Really pretty. Or even like a maple cheesecake. Equally festive. Nigella has these recipes. Life is too short, every cake you make should be one you love eating, festive tradition or not.

    I always find it hilarious when Brits watch Nigella on an american talk show/cooking show. They ALWAYS say how annoying the hosts are and they they never let Nigella speak. What they don't realize is thats how Americans connect with people, we turn the demonstration into a hang out session and just chit-chat. Rachael wasn't trying to talk OVER her, she was talking WITH her. We're more "Chummy" in the states and love to chat with pour friends as we do stuff. You guys see it as "Not letting her talk", we see it as "Bonding while we work"

    • @weiyili9740
      @weiyili9740 6 лет назад +10

      Nigella's the guest, it's basic courtesy to let her get her point done and fill up the gaps when she is focusing on something else or pausing. There is a stark difference between talking with your guest and talking over them. You can see that Rachael keeps cutting Nigella off during parts she haven't even finish her sentence yet, thus the frequency of the two of them talking together at once. Even is you want to be "chummy", this isn't the way to go.

      Talking over each-other does not a friendship make. I guess our European sensibilities of listening as well as speaking don't make television that's loud enough stateside. The cake looked lovely though, we'll just have to search for the recipe elsewhere.
