      If humans get a hold of Yamato
      Can they use the demonic powers within the blade such as space-time manipulation?

      @GOH YEE HIN - nope not specifically speed you need power and strength as well. The sword itself holds demon powers and is far more powerful than the average katana but you need power and strength not just speed

      You're welcome! Since I've got your attention, may I ask you what you would rate higher, Hanwei, Ryan Sword, or another forge you may have come across that exists in the price range of under 1000 USD.
      Also, this is just something I was really curious about, and I don't know if you've ever handled one, but are Albion Sword all that they are cracked up to be? I've seen some videos, stress testing and the like, but I always notice that they fail to note the poor chopping and slicing power behind them.

    • @StudentOfWarCustoms

      +Thomas Hazaz Sure, I'll help but I'm going to need a little more info. What r u buying the sword for? Cutting? As an iaito? R u a student of Japanese swordsmanship or just looking for a good sword to cut with? Both work well if ur loooking for a good cutter. If ur looking for an Iaito I recommend Ryan sword because honestly for the price they r the best I've handled (they're even better than some Japanese made Iaito I've handled). If u want a sword the manufacturer will customize then Ryan sword is who a good choice. If u like the more standard look and ur just starting out the Hanwei Raptor line is hard to beat. Shinwa makes some pretty nice swords too for the money as long as ur willing to do some work to them. I don't recommend cold steel katana at all because they r all too end heavy for what they r suppose to b.
      I haven't handled Albion swords but I can tell u this from personal experience with other swords, from what I've seen online Albion swords have a point of balance close to the guard which makes for a nimble sword that responds well but takes away from cutting performance. It's always a trade off because a point of balance further from the guard makes for a better cutter but u don't want anything too end heavy because it won't respond well which isn't something u want in a sword. Which model were u looking at?

    • @thomashazaz5063
      @thomashazaz5063 8 лет назад +2

      Thank you for the thorough response. To be clear, I am looking for a katana that can stand up to regular use, on semi-hard to hard targets from time to time. I don't want to get too specific, because I don't want to rule anything out, such as maru blades, or differentially hardened ones, water quenched or oil quenched, type of steel, etc.
      But to add, I dont want an ugly sword, and I have spent some time looking at the raptors, and they really just look like giant knives to me. Not appealing.
      All in all, I just want something reliable and attractive.
      I have practiced with bokken for over 6 years, and I have owned a Maru damascus katana for around one year now, but I refuse to cut with it at the moment. I have no formal training, but I have practiced with friends at different stages of my own training, and put myself through a lot of image training. I would say that in a way, I have developed my own style, and do work on practicing and honing my skill with iaido as well. I started with an attempt to learn Kendo, which resulted in me learning that without a partner, there was not much of a way to further my skill. Still, I try as best I can to observe and apply from professionals videos which I watch.
      I asked about Albion swords because I also practice with a few oak oakshotte replicas, and I do think that I would like to get myself a nice authentic oakshotte one day too, but after I spend some more time practicing my swordsmenship with such a model. I was looking at several hand and a half models, such as the Duke, the Baron, and the Ringeck. Also the Knetch, just because my most primitive part of my mind was screaming : "That looks like a Katana!", hahaha! The cutting vids and stess tests I had seen were on the Berserkr, the Knetch, and I believe another which I cannot recall.

      Thomas Hazaz Hi, I'm a HEMA longsword student, and I own an Albion and yes they deserve their reputation. Also the point of balance differs from sword type to sword type. European swords aren't uniform at all. if you get a messer or falction you ll get a wonderful cutter. Look up skallagrims kriegsmesser review. Also I'd like to mention that there are many factors that contribute to the cutting ability of the sword regardless of the point of balance. Look up the Albion Alexandria sword cutting test and you all see what I mean.

    Hey Adam, you seem to be one of the more experienced with Ryan swords products. I'm looking to have a custom katana made and I'd like your opinions.
    I want a 9260 for it's durability but I'm not sure about having it DH for the hamon or just TH no hamon. I know TH is recommended for mono spring steel but if DH doesn't harm it I would like to go for it with a lightning wave design.
    How are your experiences with Ryan? Are the steels true to what they're rated as 9260, 1050 etc? Are they tempered and forged correctly and sturdy? They won't break easily under heavy use? How are the fittings and composition? Are they cheap zinc, do any fittings rattle, are the tsukas cracked from being smacked onto a poorly fit nakago?

    Probably too late to write it but still, Yamato is longer than 129cm, so assuming measurements were taken in 2016 because there was no dmc5 back then, so Vergil is 196cm high / about 6.5 feet that is, so when he puts his sword in front of him vertically, then the end of the hilt would reach his neck, so yea its clearly higher than 129, so for that I don't understand why no one tried to make an actual replica. But the one from Ryan Sword seems to be more accurate than any that are available.

    • @StudentOfWarCustoms
      @StudentOfWarCustoms  4 года назад

      Sorry but no, Vergil isn’t that tall and Yamato isn’t that tall. Dante and Vergil are the same height and Dante is 6’2”. Look at the mugshot of Dante on DMC, there is a height chart right behind him and it says he’s 6’2”. I am also 6’2”. Look at Devil May Cry 4 when Dante is grabbing Yamato from the ground when it’s floating, the tsuba (guard) is below his belt buckle. And after Dante grabs it the tsuka (handle) is around 3 hands long. I took these considerations on myself since I am the same height as Dante. End of the tsuka does not reach his neck.

      @@StudentOfWarCustoms Vergil is higher than Dante, we can see it by the scenes from the game, so he was 190, and 192 with heel, and lower than Vergil, Nero is 6,2 though. First picture looks like Dante is hunching over a bit.
      Camera angle is important here. The one of Vergil with Yamato in front of him is from a low angle up so of course it’s going to look taller, they do that in movies all the time to make people look taller than they actually are and it is doing the same thing there. The last one shows Dante and Vergil at the same heigh not not sure what that proves, only height difference I see is from Vergil’s hair standing up.

      Well, so most importantly, this is nero statue gyazo.com/89795dbe52637ebf2b74337a1d93dece and his height was confirmed by capcom dev gyazo.com/f1d626a63163188df3512ef5152a3082 now for some comparison gyazo.com/9107af359e9388cb684613099b395cc8 Dante has a higher hill btw, gyazo.com/a43575e437fd2828b4908d5693568292 but still he is about 3 cm lower than Vergil, gyazo.com/d297da50f7278e3f87783bd0f809a40c so if we were about to draw a lines, we can see some clues. gyazo.com/f76a9775cb0a4e3e4eed9c83f4d491c3 And for Yamato, I will provide another foreshortening, gyazo.com/a030345990f9956bd8b6838661ed15e4 not sure if its convincing, but for the previous picture, even if we were to change angle, end of tsuka somewhere near collarbone, but yeah not on the neck though.

    great review, i am always concerned with ryansword though i have heard some bad things about their practices, what do you think?

    • @StudentOfWarCustoms
      @StudentOfWarCustoms  7 лет назад +1

      +Highlander many of the online claims are exaggerated such of their bad customer service, some say they have bad customer service but I've always had nothing but good experience with them and that was before I uploaded anything of their on RUclips and even before I was uploading frequently on RUclips. The fit and finish of their sword is awesome especially for the money, their Tsukamaki in my opinion is 2nd to none is terms of function and actually beats some hanweis that I've had. Sometimes the end knots are tied wrong but most of the time they are tied right. At my dojo we actually just gave my sensei a custom iaito made by them as a gift and she loves it, the balance on it no joke is the best balance I've ever felt (we had it made so that it is extremely light and balanced for her because she has an old wrist injury). My only real complain and this may have been fixed by now although u can specify this is the distance between the Koiguchi and Kurigata waa way too much a few years ago. When i first got my 1st ryan sword my only complaint waa that the tsukamaki didn't alternate but I suggested they change that and they did now ito on the swords alternate.
      Some complain claiming that they don't use the steels that they claim to or that they don't use forging methods that they claim to. If you are looking for an iaito or occasional cutter then ryan sword is definitely a good way to go. I don't cut a lot so I can't comment on their long term edge retention. For the money though considering all the option I consider ryan sword to be an awesome option and definitely beats some other manufacturers such as Cheness.

    • @highlander200268
      @highlander200268 7 лет назад

      yah that is what i have heard one major one is the steel quality and san mai on some are iffy , i have never had one so i really do not know, i will say if i had it over i would send my chiness back i really do not like it that much, very tip heavy

    • @StudentOfWarCustoms
      @StudentOfWarCustoms  7 лет назад

      +Highlander I've had a Cheness carbon steel iaito and also hated how tip heavy it was. I also hate their fit and finish because in reality considering the swords are suppose to be designed by martial artists and sword enthusiasts but they are really bad for the money especially when you look at the fittings (especially the cheap seppa). The same sensei who we gave the Ryan sword iaito has 2 Cheness iaito and both have terrible Tsuka fit (on one someone when making it must have used a mallet to get the Tsuka on because it was tight even after the Tsuka cracked). The other one she has is a stainless steel iaito and it has the exact opposite problem it is too light, it doesn't even want to whistle when swung at moderate speed which is one thing I consider a need to have in an iaito. The tsukamaki doesn't even alternate on a Cheness. Although I love when I point this out and someone says "their oni yuri isn't too tip heavy" lol well I hope it isn't the blade is about 24" and it has a 14" Tsuka and even that one in my opinion is not good for the price.
      All the ryan swords I've had never had any of the fancy types of steel of forging methods.

    @pacificjr 4 года назад

    Quick question, I need someone who has more expertise on the matter than I, why did you extend the tsuka and not just the blade itself? Is it preference or game accuracy? I can understand both, but if it's game accuracy, from what I've had to research, I'd say the tsuka is a little shorter. I'd love to get as much insight from you as possible

    • @StudentOfWarCustoms
      @StudentOfWarCustoms  4 года назад +1

      I specified for both the blade and tsuka to be lengthened. The reason why I had the tsuka lengthened is because a tsuka needs to be proportional to the sword. While a 33.5” blade with an 11” tsuka could work the tsuka ends up working as a counterweight for the blade much like the pommel on a European sword and since a proper long tsuka also has a longer nakago (tang) it helps with balance. I personally prefer a 13”-14” tsuka even on my katana because I have big hands but on a longer blade the longer tsuka becomes even more necessary.

    • @pacificjr
      @pacificjr 4 года назад

      @@StudentOfWarCustoms ok, what if the tsuka wasn't extended? Just the blade? It would be disproportionate? Because I got one but kept the length of the tsuka unchanged. I'm starting to feel that was a poor decision on my part when I go to practice a nukitsuke. However, I'm getting used to adjusting my grip and speed of the draw to the blade

    • @StudentOfWarCustoms
      @StudentOfWarCustoms  4 года назад +1

      It would be far more likely to be disproportionate than not. This also really depends on the very blade itself. For example I have a nodachi that is an unokubi zukuri blade and as a result is very light. So light that while an 11” tsuka on an almost 35.5” blade would just be a horrible idea it could probably be done and not be as bad. Again not to say it would be the best but you would better be able to get away with it. I generally personally prefer a point of balance close to 4” from the tsuba. The yamato is a bit further than that but it still has a nice feel. The blade doesn’t feel so heavy that it negatively effects handling.
      Sometimes there are just ridiculously heavy swords, the Cold Steel Katana are a great example of this. They are so heavy that even if you lengthened the tsuka it would be more balanced but still overall just more heavy than it should be. Keep in mind a sword isn’t an axe, so if the blade is too end heavy you pretty much end up with the worse of all worlds because it’s too heavy to handle as a nice sword but a sword being what it is that weight isn’t concentrated at the head so you end up often times with a sword that is so heavy it negatively effects cutting.
      Keep in mind as well the bigger the sword gets generally the more that sword was used against cavalry and pole arms. One thing a longer tsuka does for you in these cases it is actually allows a more stable cut because the hands are more separated so as a result there is just less room for wobble if that makes any sense. Of course there is a point of diminishing returns when it comes to this and what I am talking able is a very specific use but hopefully you get the idea. Longer tsuka also have a number of other advantages as well.

He didn’t know how to bow in, didn’t know his kata, nothing. So on top of being very unprofessional rank means nothing there because if you do good at a test they give you the rank, if you don’t know what you’re doing and end up needing walked theough you’ll still get a rank.

The blade could have been made wider but then for it to be balanced the blade would have had to be made thinner which isn't exact to the game or it would have been extremely tip heavy which isn't desirable in a sword.

      Adam Novath I get it for a real katana it should be the exact size as the blade ur holding but still there is really something about that katana from the game which the real katana doesn't deliver... Its hard to explain about that feels.... But the one ur holding is definitely the best replica out there
