in the original comics for decades Iron Man's identity was a secret, like all comic book characters, Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, all had the standard secret identity, marvel choosing not to do that with this movie signaled how they were going to tell original stories in the MCU, not do straight retellings of the comic stories.

The suits are very heavy (even Tony's smaller one fell through several floors, right?) But they have an exoskeleton that takes all the weight, so the user isn't dealing with it. The reason we can't have things like this (we do have exoskeletons now) is because of having a mobile energy source that goes with it... ours are so bigger than the thing and so either don't last long or have to be tethered to power... so not as practical. The big thing that is Tony's advance is the ARC reactor which is tiny and provides insane power. (well, the repulsars instead of thrusters too so that he can have small ones built in and not have fuel all over).

  • @CarlosFontes

This is I like the MCU in chronological order vs release order. We already met Howard Stark in WW2 so it's fun to how Tony is so much like his dad and we met Nick Fury and Agent Coulson in the 90s so we know they're used to investigating weird stuff which is why they want to debrief Tony.
Also, it's nice knowing that the Avengers Initiative is named after Captain Marvel's Air Force callsign.
I didn't see why this order gets people so worked up, it's ridiculous.

@@realLow-Key It's true. The big stars of Marvel were always Spiderman, the X-Men (particularly Wolverine), and the Fantastic Four, and maybe Hulk. Cap and the Avengers, maybe slightly less popular. Iron Man and Thor and the rest of the Avengers as solo heroes were really second-stringers. But Marvel was not doing well financially, so they sold off the movie rights to all their most popular characters, which is why the X-Men and FF haven't appeared in the MCU yet, and why they need Sony's permission to use Spiderman. The MCU started with Iron Man, because they still owned the movie rights to him, and mechanical parts are relatively easy to do with CGI.

Here's the rule: all Marvel heroes are supposed to have flaws. They are mostly defined by their flaws.
Some of the most interesting heroes are the most flawed, like Tony Stark or Wolverine.
Rhodey is going to be played by a different actor after this movie because of a pay dispute. Rhodey has flaws because all Marvel heroes do, but everywhere Tony has flaws, Rhodey has virtues. Tony is a spoiled rich kid born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Rhodey is the ideal blue collar man; he could have walked out of any beer commercial. Tony is unreliable. Rhodey is reliable. Tony has bad people skills. Rhodey has good people skills.
Rhodey makes all of Tony's personality flaws seem worse just by being in the same scene with him.
That's unusual for a supporting character.
Did you notice the bald guy who led the Ten Rings cell? Immediately after this movie, that actor played in the Star Trek reboot, where he played the first Central Asian starship captain in the Star Trek franchise. That's interesting because Star Trek is among the few to beat Marvel to a few diversity milestones (such as Star Trek had the first interracial kiss in the 60s; I don't think Marvel did that until the 70s).
Tony Stark isn't a scientist. He's an engineer. He's the ultimate engineer.

Tony Stark is one of the great minds in the Marvel Universe alongside Bruce Banner (The Hulk), Hank Pym (Ant-Man), Hank McCoy (The Beast) and Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) of the Fantastic Four. 😅
The man that Tony referred to as Hugh Hefner was in fact Stan "The Man" Lee - Writer, Editor, Editor in Chief, Publisher of Marvel Comics and movie consultant. Stan was responsible for creating not only Spider-Man with Steve Ditko but pretty much the Idea guy behind all the major Marvel Super-Heroes Iron Man included. Stan has cameos in all of the MCU movies phases 1-4. 😂
In the comics Obadiah Stane was s rival of Tony Stark, who through a hostile takeover took over Stark International re-branding it Stane International. He found the blue prints of the original Mark I armor and used it to create his own version calling it the Iron Monger which made its first appearance in Iron Man vol. 1 #200. 😮
