I feel like you guys kind of complained about a problem that isn't really a problem for owners in this segment. I get you guys are driving enthusiasts. You want captivating, engaging drives anytime you are behind the wheel. That is not what this segment is. You spent most of the time flooring it in this review. Tossing it into turns. Full transparency. We bought a 2023 Telly SX Prestige for my wife. I am an enthusiast. I have a supercharged S2000. The people that buy these, and the reason we bought one, is almost in a way the opposite of why you are critiquing it. This is a straight line, a to b, get your family to the destination in as much comfort, with as many little electronic niceties to keep everyone entertained, all at a good value. I don't care what it feels like when I am tossing it into a 30 mph turn at 55. I care how well a rear-facing car seat fits in the back and can an adult fit in the third row for short stints. I don't care how fast it accelerates...although it's totally adequate. I care about it having one of the best lane keeping systems out there and a ton of standard safety for our trips to make boring drives easier and safer. The Telluride and Palisade still knock it out of the park in what they are meant to do. Offer comfort with tons of features. The competitors didn't blow it out of the water in those areas important in this segment. Most of them are still behind after refreshes. They improved what isn't all that cared about. I still think the Telluride is the best looking vehicle in its class, too. Let's put it this way. I am never going to ask my wife when she gets home with the kids "did you have a nice spirited drive through the canyons?" No, it's "did you have a comfortable drive and were the kids entertained? Were you able to fit everything you needed for the day with ease?" I really like your reviews but you need to look at different segments taking into account what buyers in that segment want. In this one, it is not driving dynamics. That was your focus. You said Kia and Hyundai don't put the money into the stuff underneath. You're right. But what is there is completely competent for the purpose. Where they put their money is in the places that matter in this segment. Like you said, feels like you are driving a $70K car. Great utilization of space. Great tech. Everything a buyer with a family wants. Oh, and nothing really gets great gas mileage in this segment other than the Hybrid Highlander and maybe the new CX-90 hybrid. The Telluride is pretty average in the pack.
Gotta love it when people are lining up to buy a car that comes with a 100% un-ironic message to "Park outside away from structures due to fire risk if equipped with tow package" that hasn't been fixed since August of last year. Just goes to show you how much this brand cares about its consumers.
@@moloono1 Many many manufacturers have issues like this. There is a stop sale on the harness and it only effects those manufactured previously with it. There are supply chain issues right now across the entire market. It is not unique to Kia/Hyundai.

Super agreed with your takes boys. Like visually in most senses they crush it.. looks are beautiful. Inside and out. The part that pushed me to the other brands, specifically I ended up going with Mazda, was that driving dynamic. I felt completely disconnected from the road with the Kia/Hyundai. I have a 2009 Optima that I picked up used. It's always had some weird electrical issues. One is that on a hot day, parked in the sun, the panic mode would trigger and the horn would blare and hazards flash, eventually killing the battery. Who would have dreamt there would ever be a waiting list at dealers for any KIA? I presume it’s the designers they hired from Audi and BMW some years back.
Yeah, Peter Schreyer is almost single-handedly responsible for bringing Kia to the big-leagues in terms of good car design. But he's 70 years old now and has taken a half step back from his day-to-day duties, so it will be interesting to see where they go in the years ahead.
I wonder if upgraded shocks could help the driving dynamics. My F150 felt sloppy and cumbersome until I put some mid tier Fox shocks on it. The shocks completely transformed the truck from a mushy mess into a sharp handling truck
I wish more car reviews actually reviewed what it's like to being driven around the back seats. My sister has a Telluride and it's the first time I've ever gotten car sick because of how much bouncing there was when sitting in the back. I drove it another time and it was a completely different experience, quite comfortable and not bouncy on the same road while up front.
Design wise, I still feel like the Telluride (and Palisade) are my first choices. As far as driving dynamics, I don't have the luxury of driving a multitude of vehicles so I can't say much but I can say that I don't have any complaints yet besides it could use more power (this is coming from a V8 owner). It's always "funny" to read the comments. Some ignorant, some trolling, some downright wrong, and a few mature comments.
I can definitely understand all of your points. As an owner of a 2019 Optima, I honestly feel my car’s driving dynamics are also fine, as I too haven’t experienced a variety of other vehicles. I keep hearing about how athletic the Mazda 6 and Honda Accord Sport feel, but in all honesty, my Optima does the job and feels good. I think the Telluride and Palisade are still very good vehicles, especially when it comes to value. The competition is just now catching up. Just imagine how much better the next generation Telluride will be.
Maybe big SUVs should feel big though? Might have more people driving them with the respect such a vehicle commands instead of whipping them around like sportscars and wondering "what happened?" when physics innevitably wins.
I feel like you two summed up the general buying public quite well. People care more about looks than function and driving dynamics. It's honestly sad. Stuff is so outrageously over-priced today, you'd think that you would "get it all" but nope... I was in a new Corolla last weekend and it is amazing how cheap it felt to me, yeah, I get it, they are reliable and I would still recommend it to someone needed a good A-B car, but man, the feel of things inside the cabin were just depressing, I feel like controls and seats were much better built even in the early 2000's. As always, thank you for the content.
As you guys noted the majority buying a 3 row family hauler couldn't care less about 'driving dynamics' or 'steering feel'. They want safety, space, gas mileage and reliable tech. As for Telluride successor, probably take cues from the EV9, that thing is rad
but you can also get all of those things, plus the driving dynamics, from something like a Pilot. The Honda, Mazda and toyota equivalent in this segment also comes with something few newer Kia/Hyundai's provide: long term reliability.
@@Eldaino999 Which clearly makes sense for the minority 3 row buyers who DO care about 'driving dynamics' 🤪 As for 'reliability', that is so subjective today it's ridiculous. The CX-90 seems like it will be great, but is also going to be significantly more money. Price-wise, it’s a half step up to another pricing bracket.
The most untrue statement lol. No other SUV in this class is even this good. The Palisade would be its closest. The new Pilot has a 7 inch screen... SURPASSED!!
The Wagon/ station wagon needs to reappear on the American market to save us from ourselves. These companies keep trying to make these SUV's do more when the wagons of the 80's already figured it out. I think the Dodge Magnum would get more attention than it did if it where released these days.
Lots of companies are doing fast backs. BMW, Audi, Honda, VW, etc. they are almost as useable as a wagon while not looking god awful. Enthusiasts may like wagons. But to 95% of the market. They don’t like the look of wagons.

Honda said it was completely normal for oil to smell like gas . The oil had a fowl odor. Honda is being sued by the owners.

It's a big SUV, not a sports car. It's meant to be attractive, comfortable, and haul people and cargo. It checks all of those boxes and does it for an unbeatable value. An interesting point to note is that Honda used a Kia to benchmark their future redesign. If that isn't proof that Kia has come a long way and Honda is struggling to make compelling vehicles, I don't know what is.
The Japanese always benchmark other companies' products actually. It's been occurring for decades. It's all fun and dandy at first, but when defects start showing up like ABS fires, trailer hitch fires, fires to the fires, or 1 million plus vehicles needing a new engine that is troublesome to me. The Japanese using old, outdated designs sometimes appeal to me as I cycle a vehicle through my family until its 15-20 years old and has 250,000 or more miles. I know I can trust my Honda or Toyota to do that no problem.
Kia and Hyundai lost $2.3 billion dollars in Q3 2022 profit due to warranty claims on failing engines. Sounds like it’s the same old Kia/Hyundai to me 😂
@@midwestfarm757 what's troublesome is Honda and Toyota not recalling their major defects and instead quietly issuing service bulletins for issues like prematurely failing transmissions and piston ring defects causing massive oil consumption. It's kinda of strange to vilify a company for standing behind their products with a better warranty and replacing major components up to 100k miles. The fact that they're spending that kind of money fixing customer cars is commendable. They could pull a Toyota move and say oil consumption is normal and send you on your way to pay out of pocket.
I wonder if minivans will eventually have a renaissance. I'd still glad drive the Sienna hybrid for 35 mpg, high reliability, and a decent dealer experience.
we couldnt find a sienna for ages, but yes the efficiecy of our sienna is hilarious, its better than our camry. with steady state 70mph cruising on flat land the mpg gauge was reading 38-39 for us on the highway, and sliding doors are just better for ingress and egress
I guess I get it. I'm not personally interested in anything in this segment because when I need a minivan I'll just buy a minivan, but it's a good-looking and comfortable minivan-like thing.
Gotta disagree. I've owned a 2022 telluride for nearly a year now. 8k miles. And I absolutely LOVE the driving dynamics considering it's a BIG 8 seater SUV. I had a Durango for a few months previously and sure it definitely was more engaging but it also had 20% worse fuel economy. We drove it down Route 1 from SF to Santa Barbara and it was accelerating uphill on the highway with ease (with 6 people inside). Steering is tight and very responsive too. I've also done the same drive in a Carnival and while that's decent too (for a minivan), the Telluride is way superior. Bottom line from my experience of owning this car: Considering this is a big SUV, and extremely well priced with a top notch interior design it's driving dynamics are perfectly fine.
You disagree about what? That the telluride feels like a big suv and doesn’t handle that well compared to other suvs? That is has a nice interior? That it’s not that great on gas? That there’s more reliable suv’s?
@@mikekeller5202 I disagree with the presenter's definitive declaration that they "hate the way the telluride drives" because it has "slow steering", "sloppy steering inputs" and it's "not fast", "it's not quiet" and the "engine is lifeless" and that it "feels cumbersome". That's what I totally disagree with. I have driven it 8k miles over the past 9 months across California, primarily in suburban areas as well as on route 1. For everything from commuting, to school drops, to road trips, to grocery runs.. In my view it accelerates amazingly well on the highway even when it's full, it has a perfectly capable steering without feeling like it's "too big", and is really comfortable in 35mph roads as well as on the highway.. 👍
I really wanted to pull the trigger on a new Telluride, but I have read online and personally heard so many horror stories about getting KIA dealers to complete warranty work. For now, I'll wait to spend my money on the Toyota Grand Highlander.
We bought this as a mini van. We don't care about handling dynamics, we don't care about road feel. It has to be big, quiet, and eat up miles. And that's exactly what our 2022 does. We have put 18,000 miles on in less than a year and is has given us zero problems (hasn't started on fire either). The driving assist is excellent and makes long road trips much easier, It is much quieter than our buzzy old CR-V, and despite what Mr goose mentions we average 29 on the highway when our old CR-V got 32 despite being much smaller. Oh and we paid MSRP because fuck scabby dealerships. Overall this is the best vehicle we have owned in regards to an appliance and people mover.
That's not special! Most cars have blind spot monitoring now adays and honestly thata all you need! Yes, they put a camera that pops up on the dashboard but the illumination in the mirrors are just as effective! So nothing special about having a camera activate on the instrument panel
It's my second year with my telluride SX nightfall, it's amazing, loved it. Believe it or not so many in my neighborhood love the unique square amber DRL.. 😊 I got lot of compliments
“If equipped with a hitch park outside to avoid fires” putting that in the review is the best disclaimer for a Hyundai/Kia product. You should go back and add that as an annotation to anything with a Theta II
I like KIA Telluride since new vehicle I’m not sure about long term reliability 10+ years from now and how hold up!? I’m leaning towards used certified Lexus GX460.
Thats what I did, got a 22 gx this year and its excellent, plus it will outlast the kia 3x over. But the GX is quite a bit smaller than that tellurid, a lot of that is the body on frame vs the unibody not just that its almost a foot longer. I dont really see cross shopping them much, the gx is in line with the santa fe and the sorento. The LX is the teluride size.
This is why I bought the Explorer. Most competitors beat it big time on the interior. However, the rear wheel drive based explorer drove the best out of all the 3-rows I drove. So, call the interior crap all you want, but the driving architecture is the best.
Yes because when I went to buy my 3 row family SUV the thing I really needed more than space or comfort or amenities was for it to actually drive like a 2 door sport car.
EVs need to be a base of 500 miles at 75mph continuous interstate speeds for 30k before they are road trip viable. The charging network really needs to step it up as well.
It only makes sense newer designed products would be "better", because otherwise they're not doing their jobs as designers. The value of the Telluride going forward will remain it's impact on the rest of the market. The newer designs by other brands are only "better" today because the Telluride was so good when it came out they knew they had to do something or risk losing huge market share. Eventually the Telluride is going to be yesterdays best, for now it's still top 3 and has been number 1 since it's release. I argue the Telluride is as good and as important to cars as the Ford Taurus was when it was released. Revolutionary.
No Mechanical Review? A mechanic reviewed the 2023 Palisade and mentioned how the engine or engine hardware is old school. For example GDI V6 no port, etc.
My gas mileage is terrific. Avg 29 mpg (imperial gallons - Canada) after 18,000 km. Have gotten low 30’s on extended highway trips. Terrific for a truck of this size.
I believe Audi and Acura are the originators of torque vectoring, there after every one else has put similar name systems into their SUV’s. I drive a 2011 MdX base with SH-AWD and the key is “make a big car feel small “ that is exactly what Acura MdX SH-AWD system does for this behemoth SUV. KIA, has years to go before they can catch up in terms of structural design of their SUV, engine components and overall ergonomics. At that price point, KIA, will bot be an option.
Love savagegeese, but did not agree with most of this review. I own a 2020 Telluride. I understand the competition has worked hard to compete with the Telluride which just a a year or two ago was by far the cream of the crop of the segment. However, the tone of the review was what I would expect from a Mitsubishi Mirage. Come on guys! Seriously? This is still an amazing vehicle. Yes it drives like a couch, I'm sure the new Pilot drives a bit better. I'd like to test drive it to see. However, to say this does not get good gas mileage is misleading. Doesn't it get the same as the Pilot? This was not mentioned. I just drove from Detroit to Hilton Head, South Carolina 4 days ago in my 2020 Telluride with 3 adults and 2 young children in the car packed with luggage and I got 27 mpg on the way down. Mostly highway, but up and down several mountains. I'll take that!!! Not as good as the Highlander, but that Highlander is much smaller. My big fault with this refresh is getting rid of the iconic square running lights and there is some brown plastic in the interior where mine is black, I think they over did it with the brown inside, but that's a personal thing. Anyway, I was a Buick Enclave owner before this and this Telluride drives almost as good as the Buick, I'll take that too! I am not a racecar driver, but I do like and enjoy driving dynamics, but I also like a good cruiser for what it is. I think you 2 were a bit hard on the beloved Telluride.
as a 2020 EX owner thanks for seeing the light, it's an excellent mediocre car that's real strength is being cheap. Yea tech is nice and interior is decent, driving feel and dynamic spot on as you said, nothing there, the body rolls so much I expect Peppy to pop up on a screen saying "Do a Barrel Roll". This suspension is so awful I can't believe they charge $800 for a replacement shock/strut, glad they don't cheap out on the warranty.
You all need to understand. This SUV has a minivan chassis with flimsy front sub-frame and just adequate suspensions. Just put it on a lift and look at it. Compared to Explorer, older Pilot or even Chevy Traverse. And Pilot is also a minivan chassis but highly modified to meet the need with much better suspension setup. Don't get me wrong, it's a decent "car" but it ain't an off-road worthy SUV at all. It got trashed by a famous Korean car reviewer Nobossindustry (he puts all his review cars on a lift) for being just enough to pass by subframe - he gets all his cars from actual owners. He also trashed it for its high speed dynamics when lane changing. He said it's an okay car for a mall crawler people carrier. He also said the previous VW Tiguen is a piece-of S*IT (absolutely worst example of cheaping out on an ancient chassis). His philosophy is that foremost, a car must have a good chassis setup with good suspension. Everything else is secondary. Don't be swayed by the shiny interiors. Car is a people carrying metal case. SAFETY is the Number 1 element that you must consider. That means, stability, vehicle dynamics during high speed travel, braking abilities, road noise, vibration filtering setup, etc. By the way, he thinks, BMW makes some of the best chassis and suspension engineering with best component setups for a mass produced auto maker. He mentioned even Mercedes is cheaping out now days.
If only BMW wouldn’t cheap out by using plastic engine components that cause leaks everywhere after 5 years. Chasing down those leaks is a never-ending money pit.
@@moloono1 BMW is not the best "car". What I said is they do have some the best chassis and suspension engineering. That means, they have superior handling characteristics.
@@moloono1 are you going through every single comment to talk crap about them? Who hurt you?
@@trletts And yet Kia/Hyundai were the only ones that kept announcing fire recalls for 5 years in a row and for 2012 through 2021 manufacture years. Yes, recalls hit all manufactures, but that’s an amazing amount of negligence.

While with the Mazda I still felt like there was a focus on driving feel, and as someone who enjoys the feel of the drive it was important to me.
But absolutely for those, and there is quite a large audience for, who just want to go A to B in comfort without thinking about anything else.. they would be perfect.

I really wanted to like these, but I went with a Highlander. Yes, its smaller. Yes, the Pilot is larger. Yes, the Mazda drives better. But when I'm dropping 46k I want it to retain some value, and not spontaneously combust.
Also, for those comparing the Pilot. There's some horrendous issues with water leaking around the windshield and body seams in the front. Look into it. Huge deterrent for me
I have a 2009 Optima that I picked up used. It's always had some weird electrical issues. One is that on a hot day, parked in the sun, the panic mode would trigger and the horn would blare and hazards flash, eventually killing the battery.

Just imagine how much better the next generation Telluride will be.

feeling big isn't the same as being completely disconnected.

The Wagon/ station wagon needs to reappear on the American market to save us from ourselves. These companies keep trying to make these SUV's do more when the wagons of the 80's already figured it out. I think the Dodge Magnum would get more attention than it did if it where released these days.

And you probably drive it at 100 mph on the interstate like you're in a sports car 😅

Telluride has never once came with key to start, it starts at 35k, why would it? And the telluride has never had any issues with lighting on fire.

They said they have done quite a few other Palisade/Telluride videos, so I am sure its on an older video.
My gas mileage is terrific. Avg 29 mpg (imperial gallons - Canada) after 18,000 km. Have gotten low 30’s on extended highway trips. Terrific for a truck of this size.
Now that's how you end a video
Thank you so much for this. I have a 2020 Telluride. NO mechanical problems still flying high!
as a 2020 EX owner thanks for seeing the light, it's an excellent mediocre car that's real strength is being cheap.
Made my day sir. MCcloud out.
I know all about their cheap plastics. My brother has one, an x5. It's a money pit. I would never buy a BMW for a long keep. They are only good for leases.
@@fastskipper777 Ah, thanks for the clarification. I totally agree!
