We have to overhaul the AL31 every 1000 hours and replace it every 2000 hours, if we're flying this until the 2050s or 2060s (and possibly beyond, who knows maybe it becomes our next Mig21) we'll have to replace the engines many times in that much time anyways. So why not upgrade it to the AL41, which doubles the uptime and in doing so keeps the total cost almost the same, while delivering more thrust and almost more importantly, much more electrical power for new systems like jammers and radars?
Since there is a lot of stealth tech being worked on for AMCA hopefully some of it can be used for Su30 to reduce its ridiculous large RCS. That is the only real useful addition, along with better sensors.

So the 1 St upgraded SU-30 would not be available before 2035.
By the time the deal is fulfilled and finalised and production n maintenance and advancement happens all the World countries mostly will start flying 6th Generation jets and 7 th Generation planes will start flying prototypes and planned production... Only upgrade of Electronics and Flight controls cannot be termed as 5th gen update. Without updating Engines and reducing drag by airframe optimization this is just electronics overhaul.
Why not upgrade the Sukhoi 30 MKI to super Sukhoi standards with Next gen Brahmos missiles. We can use the remaining money for AMCA project and buy more Rafale jets , MQ9B Reper Drones and also buy some handful of Sukhoi 57 jets from Russia with 63000+ crore Rupees which is too much for an upgrade program. Why the Government n Agencies are dumb and idiot of using the tax players valueable money on these upgrades rather than buying pure 5+ or 6th Generation Aircraft for future. India can also produce 2000+ Loitering long range self destruct munitions which hardly costs 25-40 lakh Rupees in Indian markets in large numbers. Common guys this is simply waste of money as these aircraft will become obsolete technology by next 10-15 years when 6th Generation fighter jets will be flying all over the World. Rather go for large scale production of Tejas Mk 1A and Tejas Mk 2 with some inbuilt Stealth and ECM countermeasures for future warfares with China, Pakistan or any hostile country during Nuke wars.
