    Thank you so very much. I used your video to open my computer to change out the fan due to the annoying overheating messages and frequent shut downs. I went to Best Buy Geek Squad to repair. They wanted $85 to ship my computer out to troubleshoot it before they could give me a diagnosis. I bought the canned air for $7 and I purchased a Logitech fan pad to help cool down my unit for $25. It didn't fix the problem. Bought a fan from eBay and used your video to install. THANK YOU! Saved much money

    I have the A505 (which was more complicated to tear apart than the one in the video) and my dad who is a retired computer programmer said this was what I needed to do. So I watched the video and halfway through tearing the computer apart my dad looks very concerned and says "well it is very possible you could mess it up" So then I'm like WTF and start stressing. Well, I did it and it worked perfectly! Pretty good for a girl with no computer experience! Thanks for the video!

    BTW I used this video to open a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5150. You have the best quality video I could find on You Tube. Thanks again. I called Best Buy Geeks and was told they would install the fan for $55. I was afraid they would add hidden fees so I opted to use your video as a DIY. I am completely satified. The fan cost me about $20.

    Hi - want to Thank You for posting this vid - my son's Toshiba laptop recently started over heating when playing certain games... Following your guide, we were able to open it up, and found the fan was really clogged with dirt and 'stuff'. We cleaned it out, put it back together and we'll see what happens. If it's still over heating, we're going to follow your video and get to the processor next time... I'm A+ certified but have never worked on laptops until now. You gave me the confidence to try! Thanks again!

    I have a X770 with a noisy fan. Toshiba's fan is the biggest load of junk.

    THANK YOU I figured out my problem only 4 minutes into your video.,. My Toshiba Satellite worked fine and then stopped charging but still ran until the battery ran out... Nice one DIY Tech, one of the best tear downs I've seen. I particularly like how organised you are with you screw box. As an Electronic Engineer myself who works with ESD items it does bother me to see no wrist strap. But what I did notice was you never got out of your seat or shuffled around so a static build up will be negligible. I'm thinking about cleaning my Tosh Satellite C670D and was looking for info on tearing it apart. My family have 2 Advent 9117's which will need a clean as they do get hot and are about 5 years old..... once again thanks for the nice video.

    This is one of the best DIY videos I have ever watched. Very well done and very informative. I am watching because I have a very similar laptop that was getting hot and all of a sudden it refuses to boot. It won't even go into POST. I got it to boot one time by "slapping" it on the bottom while pushing the power button. But that was the last time it booted. I have since purchased a new laptop and retrieved all of the files from the old h/d. What do you think my chances are of getting my old laptop back into operation? I'd sure appreciate your help. I like the way you work. Are you anywhere near So Cal?

    You should never touch the contacts on the memory since the oils on your skin may damage the contacts over time. Every instruction booklet or pamphlet that comes with the memory warns NOT to touch the contacts. Wipe them off with a static-free cloth for more reliable results.

      @ParadiseTech  10 лет назад +5

      We do it all the time without issue. Probably not a bad idea to stay clear of the contacts though.

    I have oooboo'd this process and also have come up with a foolproof way to keep what size screws go to which hole. I remove the screws from each hole one at a time and once the screw in each spot is free and not still attached I leave the screw in and place a piece of blue painters take over each hole with each screw in its' proper spot covering the hole from falling out of its' proper place. For the ones not in recessed holes, I place a piece of blue painter's tape holding each screw next to each respective hole placing each screw next to each hole that the screw removed belongs. I use blue painters tape because it does not leave a residue and does not become permanent. The green frog tape does as well as the blue painter's tape. I hope my explanation and tip will help folks struggling with the potential damage caused by reattaching the cover or motherboard. Good Luck and pease leave a comment whether I have helped you folks, as I only want to let you guys know how I dealt with this issue.

  • @MrM6d
    @MrM6d 3 года назад

    To replace the keyboard only. Remove only 2 phillips screws on the bottom. You can find them by laying the new keyboard upside down on the bottom and you will find the two holes. Next, pry out the keyboard with a "device" (I used a pocket knife). Then unclip the ribbon cable connector (little black slide buttons on each side of the cable) and install the new keyboard in reverse...done! $20 repair!

FAN STARTED Running really loud, however It wasn't hot. I take care my equipment like a baby, covered when not in use etc.. So I'm in the process of learning to take apart and check fan out. I am technically savvy and good with tools. My laptop is a litt different in that it's case is all brushed aluminum so I am not able to remove keyboard as it's recessed under the main body. One of the things I did not see in the video..a warning against static electric discharge. You know when you touch a door knob and it shocks you...that's at lest 5000 volts of static discharge....MORE than enough to fry your computer. Makes sure you touch a discharge area before beginning...touch the screw on a electrical outlet (it's grounded) to discharge your built up static electricity. Make sure you don't take off a sweater or walk on a carpet. If your working in an area with at least 50% humidity, you should be OK. The dryer the air, the easier it is to create static electricity. I'm 67 and worked on main frames and PC's since 1965....I've seen it all :)

    Hello, I know this is a little late but I'm wondering if you could help me. I have a Toshiba Satellite L850. The fan has always been quiet as a mouse until it accidentally took a knock and now makes a very loud grindy sound. Iv taken it all apart but can't see anything obvious making the noise in the fan. Any suggestions I would massively appreciate.

    Can you tell me what's wrong with my Toshiba laptop if I cleaned the fan and the exhaust vent, and I put everything back together, now it's running slow when I operate it, the fan works and everything.

    Hello DIY Tech, i have an HP Envy dv7 and im having a little bit of a charging problem. Every time i plug my cord into my laptop it saying 9% Available (plugged in, not charging) but when i turn my laptop off it will charge regularly. Any idea on how to fix without taking my laptop apart.
    P.S. It is not the cord because i tested 2 hp cords on both of my HP 2000 and my envy dv7.

    Hi Brian . Firstly thanx for all your videos. The machine is an Acer aspire 5553g. I´ve ran into bad luck on my ribbon connectors (atm mousepad and power). So I wondered if you could perhaps do a video on how to fix those . Best regards

    This is one more reason why I stick with desktop computers. It takes you at least 4 screws to access the CPU fan. As with laptops, you will be looking at unscrewing 20+ screws just to take the case off and more screws to achieve the same thing, which would be done and dusted less than 5 minutes in a standard desktop. Wow, so much work to do so you can clean the fan and replace a processor. LMAO! Good video by the way. :)

    I dissasembled the Toshiba L655 and fixed the coolingpaste and cleaned the fan. Now the laptop runs at about 50°C instead of 70°C when idle. When all cores are running at 100% the temperature is at 75°C.I think it is ok. Unfortunatey I had one screw and some metal thingy over which I dont know where it belongs... will have to check this because my USB connectors dont work...maybe there is a problem there.

    I'd replace the CPU on satellite L650 laptop. It is currently i3 330m. I'd like to put some of the following: i7 640m, i7 620m, i7 740QM, i7 720QM, i5 580m or i5 560m. Does this motherboard support any of the specified processors? Thanks for the answer.

    The newer Toshibas you access the fan and heatsink from the bottom panel, after you unscrew keyboard. Hey, any idea where in SoFL you can get the ribbon cable, lock clip replacement for Toshiba L875?

    Can you make a video for resetting the forgotten CMOS password for Lenovo G560 20042 which does not have a battery and as is the cmos setup it only can boot from the main hard drive i.e. does not look for a bootable cdrom or usb.

    I need to do this but keep putting it off after i've watched this! All those screws and what's involved. Disgraceful way to build a machine really when you consider the need to service it at some point down the line. Should be a lot easier access.

    • @patrickwall144
      @patrickwall144 8 лет назад

      Yeah should be. Yet what they have in mind is bringing it in and paying them to do any maintenance and repair. Hence the whole voiding of the warranty if any evidence of disassembly without a shop service sticker that will be placed by all authorized and most professional repair shops. Make sure they've done that btw if you do go to a shop. They will void any warranty without proof. And depending if it's the manufacturer or a retailer your dealing with. A receipt may not be enough. And warranty work does not include fan cleaning etc. it's only if sonethings defective.

    I need to know how to replace the DC power jack but I cannot read the model or serial number, is it possible to order a replacement that is common to the Satellite models? This was a good video, thanks, I subscribed.

    Thank You for doing this video. I used to like to try to fix my own computer but this one seems like I would have to totally take it apart. I have a Toshiba now. I had thermal paste redone last year. Now my computer keeps turning off. Frustrating,

      AMD nearly went bankrupt next time buy a Toshiba laptop with an intel chip for a cpu they run a lot cooler and the thermal paste won't gel.

  • @Agonize3
    @Agonize3 10 лет назад

    Regardless of your thermal paste, shouldn't the fan still work? My fan on my satellite isn't turning on at all, so I tried replacing it, same problem. Could it be a software problem? A driver problem? OR will the thermal paste really help the cooling system run properly again?
